This was an eye opening and life changing experience!
August 02, 2026by: Bianca Damore - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
During my time abroad, I really fell in love with the career of speech, language pathology, and it made me a lot more excited to pursue my education. I was able to get firsthand experience in what speech pathology looks like in many different ways and I would’ve never had an opportunity like this if I didn’t sign up for Therapy Abroad

My favorite trip/experience by far!
July 27, 2026by: Abigail Wood - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
My Therapy Abroad trip to Costa Rica was truly one of the most meaningful experiences I have had! I loved the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture while learning more about bilingualism and providing services in a different setting. This trip allowed me to grow as a future speech-language pathologist by expanding my clinical knowledge, improving my cultural awareness, and gaining valuable hands-on experience. I enjoyed connecting with the community, learning from local professionals, and building relationships with my peers. I will always appreciate the memories, lessons, and personal growth that came from this unforgettable experience.
The perfect SLP recharge with CEUs in the tropics

My trip to Costa Rica was the perfect burnout buster before returning to work for the new school year. The only details I had to attend to were deciding what amazing activities to squeeze into our free afternoons. Chad attended to every logistic making the trip an stress-free experience. The energy among the group of SLPs and the insightful coursework made me feel proud of my profession and validated in my practice. Bilinguistics has so many resources for bilingual speech-language caseloads and now I feel more prepared to go back to work with tools to work more effectively. We all felt the spirit of Pura Vida! I look forward to my next trip with Therapy Abroad.

Learning immersed in international experience
July 25, 2026by: Anu Joy - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I have traveled with Therapy Abroad and Bilinguistics and I had a good experience overall in terms of obtaining CEU sessions, comfortable stay and airport transportation. Therapy abroad has a very systematic way to make the international travel experience comfortable for the participants and their families. I will recommend it to any SLP planning a summer travel for both learning and experiences outside the United States.
An Inspiring Learning Experience
July 24, 2026by: Briggette Gonzalez - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
Participating in this Costa Rica experience was truly memorable. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded speech-language pathologists from across the country who share a passion for learning, collaboration, and serving others. The educational content was relevant and provided valuable insights into Costa Rica’s community-centered healthcare system, offering perspectives that I can apply to my own clinical practice. One suggestion for future programs would be to incorporate more opportunities for cultural immersion and interaction with local communities. While we experienced many beautiful places, additional cultural experiences would make the program even more meaningful. I would also love to see more advanced clinical content or specialized breakout sessions for experienced SLPs, as some of the educational material felt geared toward clinicians who are newer to the profession.
Great time as a guest
July 24, 2026by: Eric Chavez - Multiple CountriesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I’ve been to many conferences on my own professionally but none of my conferences have the option to add a guest as a participant. I think this idea is a fantastic one and one we hope to engage with in the future. It’s great to be able to accompany my partner and be a part of the experience, not just alongside it. We’ve also met many like minded people, which is a plus!
Just do it!
July 24, 2026by: Jilma Clarke - PanamaProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I have dreamt of coming to get this experience since I went to undergrad studies. I finally got to do it after 3 years of being in the field of communication disorders. I appreciate the new insights on how to divide phonological processes, and how to incorporate literacy in my therapy (which is my goal... I am still at the early stages). I appreciate having so many resources and ideas on how to go about being more efficient and above all making an impact in the lives of my students. I enjoyed listening to the guests speakers and learning about the health system in Costa Rica. There were so many opportunities to see nature, walk around town in a safe environment. The amount of organization it took to get us here and have an amazing experience is worth praising and I will highly recommend anyone who wants a safe wholesome adventure/experience to take the plunge like I did and just do it/explore/learn/have fun/meet people/grow!

I thoroughly enjoyed this course
July 24, 2026by: Rohanna O’Hara - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I had a great time at the SLP workshop in Costa Rica! The sessions were engaging, practical, and gave me strategies I can actually use in my practice. It was also a great opportunity to connect with other SLPs in a beautiful setting. Everything was well organized, and I left feeling inspired and motivated. Definitely a worthwhile experience!

July 24, 2026by: Alison Thomas - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This is my second time traveling for the International Conference on Multilingual Practice in Speech Language Pathology. Both times I've had a wonderful time. Therapy Abroad's leaders have a lot of experience in cultivating experiences like this (and traveling in general) and it really shows! Everything is well organized in advance and hosts are easy to contact with questions. Once in the country abroad they make things easy for participants as well. It's been so much fun and I've learned a lot. Can't wait to go for a third time!
Pura Vida!!!
July 24, 2026by: Cavin Fertil - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This is the 4 th time that I have attended one of these conferences with Bilinguistics and Therapy Abroad. This year’s event was outstanding. The city, the hotel, the way it was organized were remarkable. The therapists that attended were fun, engaging, and energetic. The information that I received was so valuable. Each year it’s different. I always gain something new that I can apply as soon as I get back to work. It’s like looking at your favorite movie or reading a favorite book only to discover things you missed the first time. Scott and Ellen are top tier presenters. Overall, if I have a chance to come a 5 th time I will. It’s that good. I recommend it anyone whose interested in this area.

Fabulous Trip
July 24, 2026by: Joyce Kew - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
There used to be a lot to do in the Jaco area, but most activities are more strenuous. I enjoyed Ellen and Scott who are both exceptional speakers and knowledgeable in their field, and met a great bunch of people. The trip was well organized and I would highly recommend it.
Amazing experience!!!
July 24, 2026by: Judy Senase - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
All of the conference days were well organized. The presented material was meaningful and practical. Ellen and Scott are very knowledgeable and shared their wealth of information with us. They also shared the numerous freebies on their Bilinguistics website and encouraged us to share with others. I will be able to easily implement their ideas, strategies, and suggestions! Costa Rica was a beautiful country to visit! There was so much to do in Jaco. Additionally Chad, from study abroad, was very helpful and kept us updated on the schedule and travel logistics. It was a wonderful experience

Visiting Costa Rica with Bilinguistics has been a unique and life-changing experience. I’ve been given the opportunity to not only visit a place that I’ve never been but to connect with other Slp’s who are seeking information and support. This is my second trip with therapy abroad and Bilinguals and it will not be my last.

My family had a great time in Costa Rica! There was a perfect mix of Therapy Abroad taking care of logistics, so we could relax and know everything was taken care of, and freedom and free time built into the schedule to do whatever we wanted to do. The continuing education courses were full of practical information to start applying to my caseload right away. Scott and Ellen (of Bilinguistics) are engaging and entertaining presenters, and a wealth of knowledge. I highly recommend a study abroad trip through Therapy Abroad!

Invaluable Cultural & Professional Experience!
July 24, 2026by: Kaylyn Conigliaro - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
Bilinguistics is a resource hub I’ve used in my practice as school-based speech-language pathologist for years. When I saw they were hosting a study abroad experience, I knew it was a MUST! After having attended the Costa Rica 2026 Bilinguistics & Study abroad experience, it is safe to say I’ve had the experience of a lifetime! This week-long conference included cultural immersion, professional learning focused on serving diverse populations, and irreplaceable networking opportunities. It was thoroughly planned, organized, and it was incredibly apparent that the team cared about each attendee. I can’t recommend this study abroad experience enough! Not only have I gathered tools, resources, and knowledge to share and improve my own practice, but I’ve made memories alongside other amazing SLPs that will last a lifetime! Cannot wait to attend next year’s conference abroad!!

Once in a lifetime experience!
July 24, 2026by: Patricia Bejarano - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This experience was wonderful! I enjoyed getting to learn about the Costa Rican culture and way of living. I liked that we were able to get presenters from right here in Costa Rica. I also enjoyed learning about different strategies that I could use in my daily practice whether it’s using dynamic assessment tools or literacy-based interventions. In addition to being able to gain so much knowledge I enjoyed many of the excursions and opportunities to meet fellow SLPs.
Professional Growth, Cultural Immersion, and Adventure
July 24, 2026by: Keita Edwards Adams - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
Participating in the Bilinguistics Therapy Abroad program in Costa Rica was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all of my expectations. It provided the perfect balance of professional growth, cultural immersion, and adventure. One of the highlights of the program was the opportunity to truly experience Costa Rican culture. From interacting with locals and communities to learning about traditions and daily life, every day offered a chance to broaden my perspective. Being immersed in a Spanish-speaking environment also gave me the confidence to practice and improve my Spanish in meaningful, real-world situations. Beyond the clinical experience, the extracurricular activities made the trip even more memorable. Whether exploring Costa Rica's beautiful landscapes, spending time outdoors, or making a few adorable animal friends along the way, there was never a dull moment. These experiences allowed our group to bond while appreciating everything this incredible country has to offer. The Bilinguistics team also did an outstanding job providing resources and support throughout the program. From educational materials and clinical guidance to well-organized activities and logistics, everything was thoughtfully planned, allowing us to focus on learning, growing, and enjoying the experience. I would highly recommend the Bilinguistics Therapy Abroad program to anyone looking to expand their clinical skills while immersing themselves in a new culture. It is an incredible opportunity to learn, make lasting memories, build friendships, and experience the beauty and warmth of Costa Rica.

Can’t say enough positive things about this trip. Incredibly organized down to every detail including transportation to and from airport. The hotel selection was excellent as well as the group activities planned for us. In addition, the resources and information provided during the workshops were useful and changed my perspective and approach to evaluations. Submerging yourself in another culture and meeting other like-minded SLPs is such an enriching experience. Highly recommend investing in studying abroad.

July 24, 2026by: Aerianna Rich - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This experience was once in a lifetime. I cannot wait to go on another trip like this. I was able to meet other professionals all over the world with similar passions and similar goals. Aside from the people, Costa Rica was beautiful and so rich in culture. Pura vida and I will be back!! My only critique for next year is that I wish there was an ice breaking activity where everyone went around and introduced themselves to the group with their state, setting, and how many years in the field.
The Hidden Bridge: Connecting EB Knowledge to Functional Application
July 24, 2026by: Erin Smith-Schultz - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
There are so many, many times I have been frustrated listening to professors, reading scholarly articles and research, only to turn around and be faced with the reality of the “real world” not knowing how functionally apply the nuanced knowledge. I am super impressed with the simple and practical tools that Bi-Linguistic has created to bridge the world of knowledge with the world of realistic practice.

July 24, 2026by: Jason Chalker - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
As always, great material presented; it was all relevant to my daily work and easy to follow. The presentations were engaging, funny, and moved at a good pace. The slides were downloadable for future use, including many links for online resources. Can't wait to see where we're headed next year!?!

July 24, 2026by: Mary Grace Riley - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I loved attending the study abroad conference in Costa Rica! It was great to meet other SLPs and to learn all about multilingual therapy and evaluation. Each of the sessions were very extensive and loaded with information I will take with me and utilize daily. I do wish there was more community involvement, as it relates so speech services, other therapy, or healthcare, or cultural/community engagement in general. The free time and additional activities outside of the conference were great! Though, I would’ve loved to have spent more time one on one with the local community.
Great Study Abroad Experience for Someone with Adult Responsibilities
July 24, 2026by: Morgan Jameson - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I studied abroad several times in undergrad and graduate school, I have always yearned to find a comparable experience as a working professional and I was pleasantly surprised by how well this conference meet that need. I signed up for the conference content, but the connections made are going to be the reason I sign up again. More than anything else, I really enjoyed the chance to connect with other like-minded adults who speak Spanish. It was so nice to not have to spend so much time explaining to people what an SLP was, or to talk about being the only bilingual SLP, but to just be able to connect with other folks straightaway. The conference had a great balance of content and local exploration.

This week left me feeling inspired and rejuvenated!!
July 24, 2026by: Summer Marske - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
Ellen and Scott are so informative, genuine, and inspiring! Their knowledge and ability to share it with other SLPs is so admirable. I left this week with more confidence in evaluating and treating bilingual students. It was also so great to meet and connect with other like-minded professionals. I will carry all of this knowledge with me into my practice! Thank you so much, Bilinguistics and Therapy Abroad for the most amazing week.

I had a great time on my trip to Jaco, Costa Rica! It was such a cool experience, and I learned so much about the CR’s wildlife, nature, and culture. A fun and convenient way to earn CEUs. Everything was well organized from start to finish. I met great people along the way, and everyone was friendly and welcoming. As a solo traveler, I felt safe throughout the trip, which made the experience even better. Looking forward to future experiences!

July 24, 2026by: DAPHNE Martell - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This conference boosted my confidence so much. I went because I wanted to do the international conference and I didn’t realize it would be the most help conference I have ever been to. The tools that the Bilinguistics team have created are made for SLPs to help manage their time with evals and therapy and caseload sizes. Scott and Ellen, the bilinguistic gurus, are real world SLPs who continue to work with clients, which I appreciate because their experiences relate to our jobs.

Pura Vida: My Unforgettable Costa Rica SLP Adventure with Bilinguistics & Therapy Abroad!
July 24, 2026by: Kaylyn Court - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I just got back from the most incredible international SLP experience in Costa Rica with Bilinguistics and Therapy Abroad, and I’m still riding the high! 🌴🦋 If you’re looking for a trip that combines serious professional growth with straight-up joy, this is it. The learning was top-tier. We dove deep into bilingual assessment and intervention, cultural humility in speech-language services, and practical strategies and techniques. I left with a much stronger toolkit, new confidence in bilingual therapy, and a notebook full of gold. But the fun? Next level. We hiked through rainforests, zip-lined over the jungle canopy, relaxed by the beach, and swam in local waterfalls. Therapy Abroad handled all the logistics flawlessly so we could focus on learning and living pura vida. Whether you’re a grad student, CF, or seasoned SLP, this trip delivers the perfect mix of meaningful continuing education and life-enriching adventure. I came home more skilled, more inspired, and already planning my next trip with them. 10/10 — do yourself a favor and go! 🇨🇷💬 Highly recommend!

As an SLP going into my 6th year of practice, I honestly didn't think I'd learn as much as I did in just 5 days! I left with so many practical strategies and endless resources that will make my therapy more meaningful while also making my job easier. On top of that, getting to experience beautiful Costa Rica was unforgettable! We had amazing adventures, explored such a beautiful country, and met so many incredible SLPs from all over. The communication, planning, and travel were completely seamless and stress-free, which made the whole experience even better. Huge thank you to Chad, Scott, and Ellen for putting together such an amazing international conference. I'd go again in a heartbeat! 10/10 recommend!

This trip was awesome! I love how many people bring their families and make it a trip for everyone. I brought my mom and she had a blast just being here. The material we covered was great, I feel so much better prepared to return to my career. The additional activities and plans were so enjoyable! I would definitely like to do another trip!!!
Once in a lifetime opportunity
July 14, 2026by: Magnolia Ford - United StatesThis program gave me an opportunity that I wouldn’t have been able to do by myself. I had learned a lot about being the best Speech Language Pathologist should look like and continue that with my career moving forward. I would encourage anyone is capable of going on a journey to see it from a different perspective.
I had a fantastic time, but I have a few suggestions
June 29, 2026by: Adele Eberhardt - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
Overall, I would rank this trip as an 8/10. The trip was more geared towards OT students than SLP students. This was mainly due to the language barrier. I wish that in the future this trip would have more translators to help accommodate to speech needs in the facilities. The hotel that we stayed in during our time in Bulgaria was super rough. It was very gross and it didn’t feel like it was being cleaned very well, specifically the beds. It was fun to meet people during the trip and hangout, but I wish that I would have been able to long before the trip began. The information for the trip was only sent out 6 days before departure. I was hoping that it would have been sent out 2-4 weeks before departure. This would have been nice for meeting other people travelling. This is more of a general suggestion, but I hope that Therapy Abroad can update their website! When I first came across the site, it looked like a scam. It’s just a website with several broken links and it requires you to put down $1,000 for the deposit. If there’s anything you guys can do to make the marketing better, please do!
Our excursions and local guides were the best!!
June 12, 2026by: Madisen Garcia - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
Each excursion/tour was so well planned and executed. I loved all of our local guides and cannot praise them enough for everything they did for us during this trip! I loved that our group also had students at varying levels in their OT/SLP journeys. As a rising fourth year undergrad student, it was very helpful to hear about some real life experiences from grad school and beyond! Overall, this trip was an amazing experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world! I enjoyed every single minute of it and felt that I’ve been able to build such strong connections with some wonderful people. Thank you for this amazing opportunity!
Everyday is something!
May 26, 2026by: Lucy Felber - United StatesWOW! What an experience. I am so grateful to have been provided this experience. My instructors and Crystal were uplifting and incredible. LOVED every minute of it! I enjoyed getting to go to the Infirmary the most!
Unforgettable experience
May 19, 2026by: Caylee Davis - United StatesI genuinely had one of the most unforgettable experiences here with therapy abroad in Dominica! The excursions planned were so fun and engaging to the culture here on the island. While the excursions were fun, the experience working with local residents is by far the best thing on the trip. I am taking back words of wisdom and love I will never forget!
Definitely exceeded my expectations
January 15, 2026by: Adriana Zimmerman - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
Had so much fun and all the supervisors were amazing, especially Am and Braxtin. Overall the program was very organized and had a good mix of planned activities versus free time. Couldn’t recommend more.
Therapy Abroad in Thailand - CSD AAC
January 14, 2026by: Cassie Pilling - United StatesI have nothing but great things to say about my time in Chiang Mai! This opportunity was a nice mixture of clinical observation, hands-on learning, and cultural immersion. I will never forget the partnering foundations and families we had the privilege of working with, and I am deeply grateful for the trust and openness they shared with us. This program pushed me outside of my comfort zone and allowed me to grow not only as a future clinician but also as a person. Every day was intentionally designed and filled with meaningful experiences. While the schedule was often physically and mentally demanding, I truly believe this intensity allowed us to make the most of every opportunity and fully engage in all that the program had to offer. I am also extremely thankful for our local facilitator P Pann, whose organization, knowledge, and passion made this trip run so smoothly! Overall, this trip was unforgettable and something I will keep with me throughout my future career.
An Incredible Cultural and Clinical Experience
January 13, 2026by: Chloe YoungI am a two time Therapy Abroad student traveler and I absolutely love Therapy Abroad! I went on the Belize trip about a year ago and absolutely knew I wanted to go on another one. I was excited to go again with Therapy Abroad to Thailand! This program was absolutely amazing and stretched me in ways that I would not have gotten in the university setting in the US. The observation opportunities and clinical experiences that were provided throughout the program were so incredible and helped enhance my clinical skills regarding cultural competency, AAC treatment, and modeling. This also was an interdisciplinary trip with 1 group being CSD and the other being PT/OT. I really enjoyed practicing interdisciplinary collaboration and communication. This experience not only provided me with amazing clinical and educational opportunities, but also allowed me to meet new lifetime friends and colleagues both in the states and in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Also the itinerary was organized and outlined perfectly by my amazing program facilitator from Chiang Mai (loved P’Pann so much!) and she was willing to answer all questions related to Thailand and Thai culture. There was a perfect blend of clinical and cultural experiences to better appreciate and learn the culture and clinical populations of Chiang Mai. If you ever consider going on a Therapy Abroad, specifically for Thailand, I would highly recommend you do so because it will change your life and perspective on clinical work.
One of the most amazing personal growth opportunities!
January 11, 2026by: Allison Marr - United StatesThis Therapy Abroad Trip brought so many positive things to my life. I got the chance to practice my clinical and interdisciplinary collaboration skills, got to immerse myself in a completely different culture than my own, and I made some amazing friendships that I will cherish long after my time abroad. Everything down to the food and transportation was arranged and thoroughly organized (thanks to our local program facilitator P Pann!), which made it easier for us students to enjoy every aspect of the cultural and clinical experiences.
Incredible Trip!
January 11, 2026by: Siena Apsey - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
I wasn’t sure what to expect on this trip but my experience was something that will stick with me for a long time. I had an amazing time and met amazing people and gained experiences that will help me throughout my entire life. Amara was an incredible leader for our pt/ot group. She always made everything a fun time and picked out the best places to eat. I would absolutely recommend to anyone that they should go on a trip through therapy abroad. The staff and facilitators are all incredible and it is easy to tell that they enjoy their job.
Lizbeth Martinez
January 11, 2026by: Lizbeth Martinez - United StatesMy time studying abroad in Thailand was truly unforgettable and deeply meaningful. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into a culture filled with warmth, compassion, and connection. Through this experience, I was able to observe Occupational Therapy in real-life settings, work with children, and witness the impact of care across different cultural perspectives. Every day challenged me to grow, not only as a student, but as a person. Living abroad pushed me outside my comfort zone, helped me gain confidence and independence, and reminded me why I chose this path in the first place. The friendships I formed, the lessons I learned, and the moments I shared will stay with me forever. Thailand didn’t just teach me about OT, it helped shape who I am becoming.
Once in a lifetime experience!
January 11, 2026by: Gracie Young - United StatesThis was such a fun and educational experience! I grew so much personally and professionally over these past two weeks! Everything I saw was eye-opening and I look forward to taking what I have learned with me about the culture and clinical practices in Thailand to the U.S.! Thank you for this once in a lifetime opportunity!!
An unforgettable experience
November 27, 2025by: Abby Barnett - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
Throughout my entire therapy abroad experience, I can’t say a single negative thing. Everything was meticulously planned, and I felt incredibly safe throughout the trip. Personally, I went on the Bulgaria and Greece trip this past summer, and it exceeded my expectations. I gained hands on experience, collaborated closely with licensed professionals, and oversaw various aspects related to speech-language pathology, including the use of AAC devices and swallowing evaluations. I couldn’t recommend it enough!

I learned a lot!
August 16, 2025by: Jina Wu - United StatesDominica was a country I haven’t heard about prior to coming here, but I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I got to immerse myself in the culture here and experience the beauty of this island. I also got to get clinical experience that I probably wouldn’t have been able to get in the United States.
I would do it again!
August 16, 2025by: Courtney Warren - United StatesI feel that I have learned a lot through all the clinical work that I was able to do with my peers. I enjoyed getting to learn about the people of Dominica while also being able to share the knowledge that I have learned over the years studying speech pathology.
Experience of a lifetime
August 16, 2025by: Nia Corbett - United StatesI had such a great time!! Not only bonding with my peers and supervisor. But also connecting with the locals and our guides. Honestly the best experience, I can't wait to do it again, when I can.I thank everyone in the program.
i thouroughly enjoyed my time in 🇩🇲

An unforgettable trip
August 16, 2025by: Norcaris Ulloa - United StatesI’ll forever be grateful for my professor for organizing this therapy abroad trip! I learned a lot from doing dynamic assessments with limited materials to counseling parents. I enjoy traveling and this experience exposed me to how a lot of countries don’t have the resources or are not educating on what speech therapy is. This made me even more passionate on living abroad to educate and provide sustainable and quality of care to individuals that need it.
Once in a lifetime experience
August 16, 2025by: Madison Ross - United StatesThis was truly once of a lifetime experience. It was filled with knowledge, culture, love, fun and memories to last a lifetime. I couldn’t feel more grateful to have been apart of this experience. I suggest it for everyone!
Great workshops on CLD topics, really interesting city
August 11, 2025by: Emilie Sanchez - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
As a school-based SLP, I had a great time in Cork attending the CLD conference. Highlights for me were really the introduction to the cultural and linguistic history of Ireland, including an extremely interesting lecture from a local historian and a guided walking tour of the town of Cobh. I loved the free time to explore the city on our own as well. Another highlight was the wealth of information and take-home materials from Bilinguistics. Chatting with many other SLPs working in different settings was also valuable. My only feedback is, during the conference workshops, I would have loved some interactive built-in discussion time with other SLPs in our respective table groups. As an incentive for attendees to return for a second conference, I would also love concrete examples of how CLD topics apply to more specific disorders, such as Autism, or best practices with AAC. Thank you Bilinguistics and Therapy Abroad, it was truly a blast!
Having a Time in Thailand🇹🇭
August 09, 2025by: Zoë White - United StatesI really enjoyed my study abroad experience in Thailand as I was immersed in so many different cultures within the span of 12 days. These cultures vary from traditional Thai, special needs, Deafness and tribal traditions. I had an amazing time interacting with the people of this country and had nothing but friendly & positive encounters! Interacting with the children at each school and foundation was amazing! Although the different languages spoken was a contributing factor to my interactions. It was not a barrier. The beautiful thing about this experience was finding different ways to connect with people from a different culture! As a future American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, I was ecstatic to visit the Anusarnsuntorn School of the Deaf & Autism School. Seeing a different dialect of signed language was eye opening and heart warming. The signs for “my name is” is the same in ASL and Thai Sign Language (TSL). It was amazing to see the children were so excited to communicate with me in their language. We were even able to introduce ourselves to each other and it was so fulfilling. I left feeling inspired and wanting to learn TSL being able to communicate with the deaf population of Thai people. But, none of this could have been possible without our AMAZING tour guide Amara. Amara was eager and enthusiastic from the moment we met her to the moment we left. She is very knowledgeable about her country and was able to answer our questions and tailor our trip in order to make this an experience of a life time for all Therapy Abroad students. She did great translating for us everytime we needed to. Overall, I had an amazing experience and my perspective, heart, and mind had been broadened through a cultural lens!
Unforgettable
August 09, 2025by: Sadie Yarbrough - United StatesI had a truly unforgettable experience. There were certain times where we felt lost or confused and could have had better instruction. Additionally, I could have used some more time in the tykes camp itself. I loved working with the kiddos, and I would’ve LOVED to get to know them better! However, the cultural experience, professional experience, and connections I made with others were unmatched (whether it was with locals, our group, other travelers, or CMU students). We jam PACKED as much as we possibly could into a two week trip to Thailand, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! This was in (HUGE) part to our guide and mentor Amara. She was the glue that held all of us together and would drop everything in an instant for any of us. You could instantly feel the love she gave to all of us, and I am going to miss her dearly. Additionally, there was much much MUCH to learn from our supervisor Cheri, and I am very appreciative to learn more about AAC from her and about her experience. I look forward to learning more about the world of speech and furthering my career!
Enlightening Experience
August 09, 2025by: Kaitlyn Chen - United StatesIt’s not often that you get to travel abroad, and it’s a very rare case that you get to travel abroad for an experience in your field. Not only was it amazing to experience another culture and country, but to teach using AAC to underrepresented populations and provide communication for those who are unable to use verbal cues. The people I’ve met were amazing and this is an experience I’ll never forget. I do think that the curriculum could’ve been more specific and provided us with more detail ahead of time. I felt uncertain at times what the intent/purpose of the program was. However, our Thai guide (Amara) was amazing and did whatever she could to make our stay comfortable and make this experience memorable. Even when our supervisor wasn’t as helpful.
Fulfilling experience
August 09, 2025by: Juliana Rodriguez - United StatesI had fun while learning about my profession in a different country. It was a unique experience that allowed me to immerse myself in Thai culture, observe diverse clinical practices, and gain a deeper appreciation for the global impact of my field during my two-week study abroad in Thailand.
My experience
August 09, 2025by: Kylee Shipman - United StatesI had a good time, I think it’s very packed schedule, I wish we had chosen of we wanted to go to dinner when we were doing other activities so we didn’t have to leave the activity we were doing but over all am and beer were amazing. And we did lots of family meals which was fun but I wasn’t prepared for it and I’m a bit picky. Overall would do again.
a very fun unique experience
August 09, 2025by: Avishi Kukreja - United StatesMy experience with therapy abroad was relatively good. I loved Amara and Beer who were our Thai coordinators! I wish we had more time hands on with the kids instead of tours of facilities. I also wish we had more guidance or structure to what we had to do for camp. I also think that a lot of your program depends on your supervisor and the group of people you are with!
A Sensory Nightmare, But Overall Fun
August 09, 2025by: Valerie So - United StatesI have a lot of problems with dirt, mud, the ground, grass, heat, mosquitoes, and just nature in general. It’s an absolute nightmare, but overall, I had fun, and I would do it again. The food was good, and I liked most of the activities. I’m going to miss lychee juice.
Unforgettable experience
August 09, 2025by: Marissa Rencher - United StatesI thoroughly enjoyed my Thailand experience! The food, people, culture, schools, learning experience, and teachers all exceeded my expectations. I would recommend therapy abroad to anyone looking to study abroad! I was a little hesitant coming as an older student but am very fulfilled and glad I came.
Priceless experience!
August 09, 2025by: Marissa Rencher - United StatesI thoroughly enjoyed my time in Thailand! The people, culture, food, experiences all exceeded my expectations. I feel grateful for this opportunity and would recommend to anyone looking to study therapy abroad. I was nervous to come, as I am a lot older than the other students, but feel like the impact it made in my life, was worth coming as an older student.
Great experience!
August 08, 2025by: Jessica Larson - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
With our guides Emo and Styocho, they had truly made the trip. They knew the clients really well and were extremely helpful with guiding us and interpreting if needed. They were with us the whole time which made me feel extremely safe and the itinerary was perfect. It had the perfect balance between free time, therapy, and activities. I wouldn’t change a single thing about this program! I had the best connection with Stella as well. I had the best time at the camp where we were able to plan the therapy sessions and one thing i added in was a mircrophone and would give it to stella to repeat after me to work on.
Got very valuable experiences!!
August 05, 2025by: Emma Murphy - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
This program provided me with a lot of very valuable experiences, especially with culture and speech therapy. It was very informative traveling around Bulgaria and learning how speech therapy is done in various settings and with different age groups. The therapy abroad team was amazing! Our supervisors, Carly and Marianna, were really nice and always happy to answer all our questions. Our guides, Emo and Stoycho, were likewise really fun to be around! I always felt safe and well informed of what was going on. They were a lot of fun and made the whole experience so much better.

This program was such an amazing experience. I was really nervous ahead of time as someone who has not traveled internationally a ton and never without family, but these people created such a safe and fun environment where I learned a ton! Our Bulgarian guides Emo and Stoycho were AMAZING with us and making us feel welcomed and so were our clinical supervisors. Totally recommend!!

Fantastic learning opportunity!
August 04, 2025by: Carly Kloack - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
Therapy Abroad has put together an incredibly educational, clinical, cultural, full-bodied experience. I believe the diversity of settings on this program makes it very unique! Our program was able to visit a variety of schools, geriatric centers, hospitals, and both pediatric and adult clinics/day programs. Stoycho and Emo, the two in-country Bulgarian staff members, were organized, energetic, kind, safe, and respectful. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and am already excited for all the things the future programs will learn!
The best experience

The best experience of my life!
August 04, 2025by: Emily Webb - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I don’t even know where to begin! This was the absolute best trip of my life! Our guides, Emo and Stoycho, were the best! They were so helpful and showed us the best places! They were easy to work with and just great people all around! Our therapists that traveled with us were also the best ever! Carly and Marianna were such great mentors! They answered all our questions and went out of their way to make us as comfortable as possible! The only thing I might would change about the trip is to go ahead and do the Athens day before Santorini! It’s a long hot day and I think we would have enjoyed it even more if we had done it immediately after Bulgaria! That way the trip ends with the super relaxing Santorini! This trip was totally worth the money and I would pay it again and again!
Absolutely amazing
August 04, 2025by: Marianna Lafferty - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
Stoycho and Emilian are absolutely incredible- they are welcoming, knowledgeable, professional, the list goes on. I truly could not have imagined a better trip, and could not have imagined it without them. They truly make the best team- and make a place miles away feel like home and family. It is so clear how much they care for this program and their community. Therapy Abroad has created an incredible program where you are able to grow both personally and professionally. You are able to further your skills as a future speech language pathology, while fostering friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend TA- I already can’t wait for my next trip!

August 03, 2025by: Paris Brewster - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I truly enjoyed Therapy Abroad and my time in Bulgaria and Greece. Emo and Stoycho did such a wonderful job taking care of us, I always felt safe with them. If you like sightseeing and a lot of go go go, this is the trip for you! I got to meet so many wonderful people and learned so much from my supervisors, the SLP related experienced and from my peers.
Fabulous learning experience including learning all about Ireland!
July 29, 2025by: Linda Curington - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This was a wonderful learning experience for me. I will be able to use all the information presented about dynamic diagnoses, assessments, and new therapy ideas. We appreciate the sharing of forms to help expedite our assessments. I also thoroughly enjoyed learning about Ireland's culture, history, and beauty. I also enjoyed meeting and getting to know so many SLPs from all over the US.
Great experience in Ireland!
July 25, 2025by: Amy Klemens - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I had an amazing time in Ireland with Therapy Abroad! It was my first time in Europe and I was provided a wonderful experience. The CEUs sessions were very informative and engaging and provided me with tools I can use when I go back to work. I enjoyed all of the activities and I appreciated the free day to explore somewhere of choice. I am looking forward to going on another trip with Therapy Abroad!
Immersed in Culture and Learning
July 23, 2025by: Maxine Woodhouse - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This cultural immersion trip was a great experience that was a good blend of professional learning and rich cultural exposure. The learning sessions were engaging and Bilinguistics did a great job providing relevant resources. The cultural activities were thoughtfully curated and we were offered a nice history of Cork and Cobh. Every moment was packed with value, making it easy to learn while enjoying the culture around me. What truly made the experience even more memorable was sharing it with family. One suggestion I have for future trips would be to incorporate an ice-breaker activity for the Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) before the event. This could encourage better interaction and networking as during the learning, there is little time to engage and other moments were spent with guests. Additionally, it would have been helpful to have participants wear their event shirts on day one to make it easier to identify each other since there were other learning groups in the hotel. Finally, while the learning sessions were incredibly valuable, it would be nice to incorporate some hands-on learning opportunities that align with the professional development content. Overall, this experience was amazing and I would highly recommend it. I'm looking forward to next year!
An eye opening experience
July 22, 2025by: Ariana Ravitz - United StatesI have never been to Asia before going to Thailand. The culture and country are like nothing I have experienced before. Learning about Buddhism, eating traditional Thai food, and seeing school children made the experience amazing. Even more, the local Thai guides and students who came on the trip — with the same passions as me — was really a once in a lifetime experience for a young adult. As I prepare to go to OT school, I have met lifelong friends and peers to call on for advice. I am so grateful for the opportunity to travel to Thailand and would recommend the program (I already have!)
A life changing experience!
July 22, 2025by: Elizabeth Orme - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I truly enjoyed every second of this trip! It was an incredible experience to travel and get a glimpse into my future career. Our guides, Emilian and Stoycho, were absolutely amazing. They welcomed us warmly and showed us their beautiful country. They took care of us, met all our needs, and treated us with such kindness, I never once felt unsafe or out of place. In fact, I felt right at home. Getting to observe and participate in Bulgaria’s healthcare system was such a unique experience. We had the opportunity to do hands-on therapy, collaborate as a team, and work alongside the SLPs. It was especially exciting to learn more about speech-language pathology and work with fellow pre-OT students. Therapy Abroad also did great with incorporating times to sight see in Bulgaria! I felt like I grew both personally and professionally, gaining valuable insight into the field of occupational therapy. Traveling to Greece afterward was the perfect way to end the trip! Greece was just as beautiful as I imagined, and it was amazing to deepen my friendships with the incredible girls I had just met. We had a fantastic rental, spent our days at the beach, and enjoyed stunning sunsets. It was so hard to see this trip come to an end, but I feel incredibly blessed to have experienced something so meaningful. If you’re even slightly considering going, do it! I was nervous about traveling alone, but I had nothing to worry about. Everyone is in the same boat, and it truly becomes a shared adventure!
Truly Memorable!

This was a truly unforgettable experience. I loved learning in the morning and then touring Ireland with other speech therapists. As SLPs, we have such a connection no matter where we are from. The programming, food, tours and overall experience was priceless. So thankful I went!
Great Time in Ireland!
July 21, 2025by: Solmarie Ipina - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
The Therapy Abroad trip to Ireland was wonderful! I got to meet so many other SLPs and go on fun excursions. We learned about Ireland’s history through guided tours and guest speakers. I also learned great information about treatment and evaluations for children who speak a different language. I will definitely be putting a lot of this knowledge into practice back home.
A Seamless and Enriching Study Abroad Experience
July 20, 2025by: Anu Joy - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I had a great experience with this study abroad program. It was exceptionally well-coordinated and thoughtfully planned from start to finish. The course content was highly relevant and delivered in a way that never felt overwhelming—no information overload, just clear and purposeful learning. The accommodations were comfortable, and I really appreciated the opportunities to engage with the local culture. A special thanks to Chad, Scott, and Ellen who were incredibly responsive and quick to provide answers.
Life changing program!
July 20, 2025by: Michelle Jaime - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I was part of the Bulgaria/Greece trip in July 2025. Initially, I was extremely nervous to join an abroad program where I didn’t know anyone. Looking back now, I’m so glad I didn’t let that fear stop me from going. During the trip, we had the opportunity to visit and observe occupational therapists (OTs) at a variety of facilities in Bulgaria. We worked with people across the lifespan from children to older adults. We learned about OT within the context of a different healthcare system. Immersing ourselves in another culture was eye-opening and helped me better understand the global impact of occupational therapy. This experience solidified my decision to pursue a career in OT and gave me a deeper appreciation for the profession’s ability to change lives. One of the most unexpected and meaningful parts of the trip was the friendships I formed. Prior to our trip, the Therapy Abroad staff told us on Zoom that we’d grow close, but I never imagined that complete strangers could feel like lifelong friends in just two weeks. Our hosts, Stoycho and Emilian, were incredible. They planned amazing activities, took us to great restaurants, and made us feel completely at home. Our clinical supervisors were intentional and insightful, helping us gain a deeper understanding of OT and guiding us through truly transformative experiences. I felt safe and supported throughout the entire trip. There wasn’t a single moment where I felt unprotected. The staff was also very responsive, offering help with everything from flight logistics to packing lists. It was clear throughout the experience that they genuinely cared about our safety, well-being, and personal growth.

Friendly, Fun and Feedback - Ireland 2025
July 19, 2025by: Terlenda Lassiter - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
Pros: This was a well-balanced experience. I thoroughly enjoyed that I was able to obtain over 20 hours of Continuing Education Units in partial fulfillment of my ASHA requirements, whilst getting all the classes in during the morning, having both breakfast and lunch meals provided DAILY (last day were 20 Euro voucher cards for the market instead of a sit-down meal, still fantastic), and there were a combo of planned excursions and some free time to do tasks with my family and guests. It was VERY family friendly. Only a few kids were present but they were able to engage with one another and enjoy the boat tour, the cultural show, the walking tour, the train ride to Cobh, and I loved that I could both learn and spend time with my family. Well worth the accrued PTO! Dr. Michael Martin was a fantastic historian, and a great choice for a speaker. He gave an established history of Cork and Ireland in general, explaining the difference between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. He and the local Irish natives were so well-versed on the overlap of Irish indentured servants, Irish slaves, Irish free men and Irish slaveowners that he was able to share about the Black Irish and how the mixture of Cromwellian-persecuted Irish sent to the Caribbean and the Irish English they spoke alongside the remnant languages of the enslaved Africans, all contributed to Caribbean Patois/English and that Cork Irish has connected roots to islands such as Jamaica. Now knowing the connection, I would have liked to see a Jamaican Patois vs. Irish Language Venn Diagram to visually see the overlap in similarities in light of the history. It was very interesting to come across areas of Cork that even had Jamaican flags. The linguist guest speaker was also interesting as she shared about some of the largest home languages being spoken in Ireland including Polish and Ukranian. Regarding the academic lessons, Scott and Ellen were the primary SLP speakers and offered meaningful connections, examples and a few interactive group activities. I've been on a previous trip and I liked that they only recycled a few pieces of information and had new perspectives or added intricacies and comprehensive topics, offering new information and ideas that I could immediately apply to different patients. I liked that Scott walked the audience through step-by-step strategies on how to use re-evaluations to lessen workload and caseload. Ellen gave some very interesting information about interpretation services and I had no idea Vietnamese was so widely spoken in the state of Texas. Chad was very accommodating throughout the trip and made sure we were attended to as we made our way throughout the hotel. It is a challenge to keep track of 130 therapists! I had a great time and am very thankful I came. My husband is still thanking me for inviting him to come along, he had a great time. I liked the breakfast porridge, the Irish soda bread with Irish salt butter, I liked the location of the hotel and its proximity to the Dunnes Stores where I could grab some groceries, and I loved the staff at the Metropole Hotel. They treated us like royalty round the clock. Literally. I got ice when I needed it, tea, taxi called for me, towels, bathroom service, etc. It was as if I walked into a Netflix Princess Switch movie because it was truly royal. Cork is the friendliest place I've ever encountered a day in my life. As a native New Yorker, that's saying something. It felt familial walking around the city streets. Feedback: I would suggest offering a walking group and a small van/shared uber group for the less ambulatory SLPs who need to get from the hotel to the destination, because if they had a knee replacement or plantar fasciitis, for example, that could be a challenge to ask a clinician to walk 10 minutes to then get on a train and then complete a 1.5 hour walking tour. Great information, fantastic boat tour, and a wonderful cultural show. Those Irish dancers were AMAZING. But I do want to offer the consideration on offering an option because there were some SLPs I noticed taking cabs to our excursions instead of walking with the group, and that takes away from opportunities to build rapport or network along the way. I was able to get as many fans as I needed from the concierge to cool my room so the room not having modern-day ventilation was not an issue for me. I liked my little suite and slept soundly. Housekeeping was precious and very helpful. The piano player in the evening at the Met hotel restaurant was talented and the staff was immaculately friendly. I almost wanted to hug them, they provided such warmth. The bathrooms were so clean and I enjoyed the tea access all day during the trainings. I would suggest or recommend consideration of including a Bilingual Audiologist to the panel to discuss how that would look and offering assessments and interventions in both languages. I liked that were located on the same street as the Cork Deaf Association. I had an opportunity to speak with them and they gave me a handout about the Irish Sign Language Alphabet and Irish Remote Interpreting Services. There was also a Hearing clinic around the corner from the hotel. Ellen had some really cool slides about distinctive language features comparing English and Spanish. Due to where we were visiting, I would have liked to see another set of slides right afterwards breaking down both Irish and English. I was curious how they would compare, and I was hoping to glean from the linguist guest speaker, a little more on that subject. It was such a great time. I cannot say enough good things about it and I am so glad they had a format that allowed for families to spend time with us before and after our learning. Thank you so much for this learning opportunity.

This trip was my first one abroad, and was also this first time I traveled alone. Both are highly recommended! (Although many people brought family members.) All activities were appropriate for all ages. I learned a lot professionally, and even more personally. This experience fed my soul and reminded me why I love what I do.

Wonderful in every respect: food, schedule, events. Everyone was courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable. Orientation and ongoing announcements were clear and timely. We were afforded sufficient free time to explore on our own.
So much better than my expectations, and my expectations were high!

What can I say? The content was inspiring, the food was delectable, and the cultural outings were mind-blowing. Scott, Ellen, and Chad did and amazing job. If you are on the fence about attending a Therapy Abroad conference, just do it! This won’t be my last.

This was my first time doing one of these study abroad trips and I really feel like I learned a lot. The whole experience was a lot of fun and I am going home with a lot of ideas of how to incorporate what I learned into my work. I felt like the planned activities and guest speakers helped me learn more about where we were. Overall, I had a great experience!
Amazing opportunity!

I’m very pleased with this unique experience! I thought the ratio and schedule of lectures, excursions, and free time was the perfect balance and setup. The accommodations were very suitable and I enjoyed learning about the history and culture of Ireland. I would’ve liked a little more support as a solo traveler in finding other solo travelers either before or at the start of the trip. However, I appreciate all the info that was provided prior to and during the trip, and felt welcome to reach out with questions. Overall it was a great experience!
Wonderful experience!

Ireland
July 18, 2025by: Sally SLP - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
Ireland was very far to come for a short week and Cork isn’t very interesting. The food at the hotel was horrible. I was sad that the weather was so bad. Lack of A/C made it uncomfortable. I would have liked to learn more about how speech works in Ireland and heard more from the local speakers. Next door to the hotel was the deaf association and the Down syndrome charity was across the street would have loved to learn about those types of organizations in Ireland. I don’t feel this was a linguistically cultural experience which is what I was hoping for. I have seen the Bilinguists presentations online before so new information would have been useful. I loved meeting SLPs from all over and spending quality time with Scott and Ellen was valuable.
Getting to know Cork
July 18, 2025by: Ariel McLeggon - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I really enjoyed participating with this program. It’s nice to meet like minded professionals with whom we can collaborate, network and make new friends. It’s been interesting to bounce ideas off of one another as well. I’ve been to Ireland before and for brief visits and I think this visit allowed me more opportunity to connect and chat with locals to learn about culture and customs etc… a good supplement for this program of cultural exchange. The course content was useful and a good refresher into new ways to tackle old problems!
I had a great time!!

The content was great and we had an amazing time!! I work in private practice and I was not expecting the content to heavily focus on schools but it was great to learn about how the school system works. Hotel staff was awesome and everyone was very responsive and helpful!
Core Memories
July 18, 2025by: Ryan Walt - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
The thought of venturing abroad by myself for the first time was scary and exciting. I knew I would find my people in a room full of SLPs and I was not wrong. From meeting new, life long friends on connecting flights, to chatting with new colleagues each day, I never once felt like I was alone. This experience has been nothing short of magical. The continuing education was some of the best in the area and I am leaving with new ideas and perspectives. The program did a fantastic job of immersing us in the Irish culture with unique experiences. Outside of the program, the accommodations were phenomenal, with the staff being one of the highlights of the trip. I can’t tell you how many wonderful locals I chatted with each day. The experience was outstanding and I cannot wait to do this again.
Ireland was wonderful!

This trip met my expectations and more! Scott and Ellen gave excellent presentations over the 4 morning sessions. Looking forward to incorporating some new concepts on Monday! The hotel accommodations were first-rate and the staff very lovely! Hanging out with 130 happy SLPs was such fun! All the work Chad puts in to the organization really shows, such a treat to show up and have everything planned! Cork, Cobh, Kinsale are wonderful destinations!
Had the greatest time ! Surrounded by so much culture and history while also learning more about my career from other speech therapists.

This was such an amazing week. I went into doing this trip solo and was anxious, but things were put in place so that we could connect with others before the trip. That helped tremendously! I learned a lot and cannot wait to implement what I learned. The events were great. Learned so much about Cork and Ireland that I never knew. Made some awesome friends along the way and had the best time laughing and having fun! Chad, Scott and Ellen were great, approachable and really showed how much they care that we all got a great experience!
Irish Culture Immersion

What a wonderful collaboration with Bilinguistics and Therapy Abroad to bring a very informative conference on culture and language to SLPs. It was a great week of learning, networking, and being immersed in the Irish culture. From the beginning to the end, everything was smoothly run. Looking forward to next year!

Attending the therapy abroad with Bilinguistics in Ireland was an absolutely engaging and unforgettable experience. From start to finish, the event was incredibly well organized, making it easy to focus on learning and connecting with like-minded professionals. The sessions were informative, offering valuable resources that I can take back to my work. Scott and Ellen were not only knowledgeable but also inspiring, sharing insights that truly deepened my understanding of therapy practices. One of the standout aspects of the courses were its thoughtful integration of culture. From Irish music and storytelling to local excursions, we were given the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the beauty and history of Ireland. Chad did an amazing job with including this cultural exposure, adding a rich, personal dimension to the professional content. By the end of the week, I felt both intellectually enriched and personally rejuvenated. The therapy abroad conference is more than just a professional development event- it’s a journey of growth, connection, and cultural appreciation.

This was an amazing experience. We learned so much and were able to balance our time with great cultural experiences both through planned tours and on our own. Everything was worked out for us logistically and Chad made sure it ran like clockwork. I loved having the opportunity to connect with other SLPs professionally and personally. I definitely recommend this study abroad.
Study Abroad Ireland 2025
July 18, 2025by: Joyce Kew - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This is my first time attending Study Abroad. I enjoyed the sessions tremendously and definitely learned a lot. Scott and Ellen are excellent speakers. The Metropole Hotel was great despite my room being short circuited two mornings in a row. The hotel promptly took care of the matter. The outings were great both going to Cobh and the harbor cruise. We arrived three days early and spent time in the countryside and I’m glad that we did that. The irosh show was great too! A big shout out to Chad, Scott, Ellen and whoever was involved in making this a memorable trip. Can’t control the weather and the rain. lol I hope to join in the future. I’m looking forward to seeing where 2027 will be!
Ireland Experience 2025
July 18, 2025by: Geri Vasquez - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
The Ireland Study Abroad conference was not to be missed. It is always incredible to me how Bilinguistics partners with Study Abroad to combine experiencing culture outside the USA, learning information and strategies, and a very affordable experience for CEUs; and the fee includes the conference registration, hotel, AND most meals! What I love most about these conferences is you will walk away with ideas, materials, and strategies you can actually use. The speakers are very knowledgeable, experienced, and personable who present the material in a way that keeps you engaged. If you can only attend one conference a year, bookmark this one. You are welcome to bring friends and family at a reduced rate. Not a once in a lifetime experience, because the following year, they will offer another exciting location you won’t want to miss; so why not make every year a trip that has to be put in your itinerary Add some extra days, and take advantage of being there.
A Meaningful CEU Experience Abroad!
July 18, 2025by: Katrina Stamas - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
This program was exactly what I needed—practical, inspiring, and energizing. The workshops were full of real-world strategies for working with diverse populations, and the instructors were knowledgeable and very engaging. Cork was the perfect setting: walkable, full of culture, and just the right mix of professional and personal exploration. The cultural excursions added so much depth, and the connections I made with other SLPs were a huge bonus. If you’re looking to recharge your skills and your spirit, this is the program for you!
An Irish Adventure
July 17, 2025by: Jasmine Uitz - United StatesProgram: International Conference on Multilingual Practice in SLP
I would have liked to learn more about the education system in Ireland and how they provide services. Maybe more community involvement. I went to the Belize trip in 2022 and the topic was the same but I still learned new things this time around. I’m hoping that if I come to another trip with Therapy Abroad, there will be more new information even if it’s the same topic of Difference vs Disorder.

My husband accompanied me to the Cork, Ireland course in July 2025. Ellen and Scott presented comprehensive and relevant information - all in 4 days!! It was great to meet SLPs from literally around the world. We loved the experiences around Cork as well. Advice: try to arrive 1-2 days earlier to conquer jet lag and allow for transportation crises (ie: flight delays).
Highly Recommend!! Great experience

I SO enjoyed this trip and conference! This was my first trip abroad and Chad and the therapy abroad team were super responsive to all of my questions, any time I reached out for support, and calming general concerns. Responses were quick and direct and that continued throughout the whole trip. Communication was clear each day, plans were clearly explained, detailed, and fun for where we were. The activities outside of the professional development were culture-rich for Cork and the surrounding areas. I learned so much! In regards to the PD, the content was engaging, the presenters were fun and funny, and relevant to day-to-day therapy planning and practice. I really enjoyed it!
I had an amazing time!

Love the program and all of your assistance. The one thing I would suggest, pre trip, giving more warning and suggesting we arrive earlier in the day (or a day early) if we want to make sure we are here by the start. I told a few colleagues my missed flight connection story and they informed me that also happened at a previous study abroad and some had to cancel altogether. Otherwise, I am very happy I signed up!
Once in a Lifetime Experience

I am hooked and will be looking forward to participating in the next study abroad!
Lifelong friends and a once and a lifetime experience
July 10, 2025by: Ashlyn Joyner - United StatesThis experience is truly one of a kind. Not only was this trip my first time out of America, but it was also a huge leap of faith as a naturally introverted person. The minute we all met up for the group flight, I felt at ease. I quickly realized this group all shared my same love and care of people. What a truly unique experience to get to meet with 11 or so other students your age who also share your passion, and travel across the world together. Throughout the whole trip, we were supported by 2 of the best local guides and 2 of the greatest supervisors anyone could ever have. I have not only learned so much about the field of Speech Therapy but about myself. Where else are you, as an undergraduate student, going to have the opportunity to design and implement a therapy activity for real life students in need? Most importantly though, I genuinely am leaving this experience with a whole group of new lifelong friends. I’ve already made plans to go to the different states of the people I’ve met on this trip to visit after we leave. Taking this trip with Therapy Abroad has changed my life. Thank you!
Therapy Abroad!!!
July 10, 2025by: Anna Herx - United StatesI loved my experience with Therapy Abroad. I feel like I learned so much about both OT and Thai culture, and am walking away from this trip feeling more confident and prepared to enter the OT field. I also hugely appreciated both our clinical supervisors and program supervisors. They made the program feel so organized and educational, and provided so much support to the students.
Such an amazing trip!
July 10, 2025by: Anna Waldock - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
Overall, I had an amazing time in Thailand with TherapyAbroad! I loved the clinical activities we were able to partake in, such as shadowing hydrotherapy, visiting the Prostheses Foundation and Thai Sports University, and working with the children at the Dulabhatorn Foundation. While visiting these organizations was my favorite aspect of the trip, I wish there were more clinical experience opportunities. I felt that there were days when we had a lot of free time, and I wish that time was filled with more opportunity to visit another PT clinic or foundation. Furthermore, I LOVED the Thai kickboxing class, but not the dance class as much. I recommend replacing the Dance class with the Thai Massage class. My group did the massage class during our free time and it was a great experience (and great way to gain more PT observation hours too). Lastly, I want to give our BlueDot guide P Pann a HUGE shoutout. She was amazing!! She was so organized, knowledgeable, always there to translate, and willing to help us at every turn. Unlike our PT supervisor, I felt that P Pann really took the time to spend time with us and get to know us personally, which I know all of us girls were thankful for. She had an amazing impact on our trip and experience, so I hope she gets the recognition she deserves.
This was a really great experience!
July 10, 2025by: Khadijah Colburn - United StatesI really enjoyed my time in Thailand with TherapyAbroad. We had so many opportunities to see, learn, and immerse in all of Thai culture. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. This experience is truly once in a lifetime to be surrounded by alike people while gaining experience towards a future career goal.
Thriving in thailand!
July 10, 2025by: Shylen Stevenson - United StatesThis experience helped me first hand experience the OT field and gave me knowledge and skills in many ways. This was an experience that grew me as a person, not only did I learn skills for teamwork and accountability, but it also grew my confidence.
Best of both worlds
July 10, 2025by: Vivien Thong - United StatesThis program was such a great balance between career development and cultural immersion. I love that there was plenty of time dedicated to both career-related experiences and exploring Thailand, and on top of that, time to ourselves to use how we saw fit. I appreciate the reflections we did and I enjoyed getting to know everyone, in both professional and personal ways. Very grateful for all the hard work going on behind the scenes, the people coordinating everything are genuinely super caring and supportive. This was an incredibly valuable experience with so many memories to last a lifetime.
A1 Experience
July 10, 2025by: Benjamin Korzep - United StatesI can’t put into words how wonderful this experience was. I was extremely nervous immersing myself into a culture in which I was unfamilar with people who I didn’t know. Kit and K could’nt have been more helpful. They are two of the most genuine, kind people I’ve ever met and you should do whatever it takes to keep them around for as long as possible. I learned so much about the field im interested in, the Thailand culture, and myself. We were very lucky to have Lauren and Paula to learn from in our short time here . I appreciated how nice and knowledgable they were throughout my entire experience. They made no question feel like a dumb one and made everyone feel involved and heard. This was a once in a lifetime trip, I highly reccomend to anyone interested in learning about the field or the Thailand culture
Stories to take home
July 10, 2025by: Kara Eng - United StatesThe cultural immersion alongside the SLP/OT learning opportunities with different schools and health institutions were beautifully woven together to create a memorable and eye-opening once-in-a-lifetime experience! To me, looking back on this program is like stepping back to look at an intricately woven tapestry that has been integrated through communal efforts — international organizations, students from various schools, and schools across the country.
The best experience for pre Slp and ot
July 10, 2025by: Josie Stevens - United StatesK and Kit made us feel welcome and cared for the second we landed in Chiang Mai. I had the time of my life
July 10, 2025by: Monserrat Grangeno - United StatesMy experience at study abroad was amazing. It’s the best thing I’ve experienced in my life, and words can’t express how thankful and happy I am to have come here. I had an amazing time learning about Thailand and the culture, and I also had an amazing time learning about my career. I met wonderful people who I will definitely keep in touch with, and I also learned about organizations like the Thomas House where I see myself going back to help. Everything i experienced here has changed my life forever, I have grown as a person and it’s all thank to the kids and people I met here. This was a wonderful experience, and I’m so thankful I was giving the opportunity to come here.

Overall I really enjoyed my trip with therapy abroad! I think that there could have been more clinical experiences built into the program, but I really liked the tykes camp. I also really enjoyed Ppan and the size of our group.
Disappointed but has a good time
July 04, 2025by: Isabella Melo - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
Our experience was a roller coaster. We were told there would be alot of clinical experience and there was not. We had one day of PT where the group split and then we learned nothing, saw no patients and left 1.5 hours early. The massage class was taken out of the itinerary and Tykes camp was great but it was not physical therapy centered, mainly because our supervisor didn't try to make it that way. Our supervisor would leave situations, ask us about our feelings and not encourage physical therapy related questions. Personally coming into this experience I was told there would be holistic PT experience and there was not. As well there was an extreme amount of free time every afternoon had 3+ hours when we could have spent it at a clinic or learning something new. Our coordinator Paan was the most amazing woman ever, she was so helpful and treated us amazingly. I felt lied too when they said various settings and holistic PT. Doulabtorn was amazing and working with the kids was life changing. I really wish we had more experience and I am really disappointed about that but these girls made the trip way better.

I had a fabulous time on my trip with Therapy Abroad! I was able to immediately connect with students and had continuous support from the staff throughout the entire trip. The opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture while learning about Bulgaria’s healthcare and implementation of therapy was a once in a lifetime experience! This trip was absolutely life changing! Not only did I get amazing hands on experience, but I made amazing connections and was able to receive invaluable mentorship by the supervisors on the trip. I would go on a Therapy Abroad trip a million times if I could!
An extremely fruitful experience
June 09, 2025by: Jada Lyons - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I had a great time on this trip and learned so much. I would encourage Therapy Abroad to allow students to continue to be able to stay in the city of VT while there, it was so nice to be able to wake up and walk to get coffee or walk to the shops or any of the night life opportunities. I really found that beneficial to my experience to be able to really understand the culture and get to know the city better. I really enjoyed all of the site seeing and activities we did. That was super awesome and fun to be apart of.
Fai is the best!!!
June 05, 2025by: Dylan Flemming - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
Read the title!! Fai was amazing, she made this trip so enjoyable. She is the most kind and engaging supervisor ever! Overall, I loved the experience I got from this trip and the stuff I learned from both the clinical supervisors and the clinics we visited.

Thailand Therapy abroad review
June 05, 2025by: Katherine Penn - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
This experience was amazing! The learning of the thai culture was very immersive and was perfectly don’t by Fai, our group leader. She ensured we had the best experience while making it worth it for all parties and educating us on the culture before all of our activities. The PT observation was great and the companies we worked with made the times so valuable. We all wished we had more time with the kids because they were so great so if there are options to add more of those interactions it would make it even better! The only thing I would change would be preparing us and the lead PTs more in the information beforehand so we are all as prepared as possible for the kids! Overall, the experience was so amazing and rewarding!
It was an amazing experience!
June 05, 2025by: Laina Sexsmith - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
This has been one of the best experiences of my life! I had an amazing time in Thailand learning about the culture as well as Physical Therapy. The activities were great and I learned and grew a lot as a person. Our trip leader was amazing and our clinical supervisors did a good job as well. I really felt like we were making a difference in the community and I wish we could stay longer!
Wonderful time in thailand
June 05, 2025by: Ayla Grodan - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
I had so much fun learning about the culture, customs, and therapy practices seen in Thailand. I loved working with the kids and bonding with my peers, clinical supervisors, and program directors. So happy to have had this opportunity!
I had the most impactful and inspiring time of my life.
June 05, 2025by: Kaylin Vasanji - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
I had an amazing time and I learned so much from all of the activities and partners throughout the trip. I do wish that we had more training on working with the kids and had some workshops about handling certain situations. Everyone was more than helpful and answered all of our questions at all times but sometimes I felt like there were more learning opportunities but we didn’t always get it because a lot of us didn’t know the right questions to ask. All of the activities and foundations we worked with were so incredible and I came out of this experience loving this career path and loving Thailand. I felt immersed in the culture and community and would not have been able to do that without this program.
Thailand Chiang Mai Therapy Abroad Experience
June 05, 2025by: Aidan Amador - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
Immersive cultural and clinical hands on experience. The traveling experience to chiang mai occurred with little to no hiccups. The chosen cultural experiences were great and well thought out. The clinical settings were great just wish we could have all visited each clinical settings but understand the time constraints. The experiences were hands on and very immersive. I loved the entire experience here in chiang mai!
Probably the best trip I’ve ever been on!
June 05, 2025by: Scott Slaymaker - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
Our program director Fai and clinical supervisors Ariana and Lauren were absolutely amazing and made our experience so much better. I had the time of my life experience what Thailand had to offer whether it be culture, food, or clinical learning. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of foreign culture while also developing clinical skills!

Rewarding and educational
June 05, 2025by: Mia Tolentino - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
This program provided a unique opportunity to learn from American physical therapists, while also learning about healthcare in Thailand. This program provided us patient care hours in unique fields that many of us would not have gotten in America. I was able to learn about a beautiful new culture and myself at the same time.

I really enjoyed this program, Fai was a great leader and was very organized. Everything was already planned out for the students which made it easy for us. The mix between clinical and cultural experience was good and gave a unique perspective towards PT cross culturally.

June 05, 2025by: Makenna Gebhardt - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
I had such a truly amazing time. I felt that the cultural immersion activities and physical therapy observation opportunities were extremely well done and provided a great amount of experience. I would come back time and time again. My Thai supervisor, Fai, made the experience truly wonderful and it wouldn’t have been the same without her.
Immersive
June 05, 2025by: Tennessee Jennings - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
The experience covered all my bases in terms of immersing myself in the culture and experiencing the country. I wish we could have had more experience with the kids at the end of the first week rather than just the second week but overall I feel as though it has made a huge lasting impact on me as a person. My only complaint was the website said we would be Thai massage certified which we were not but I still feel as though the experience and trip were fulfilling enough even without it. It’s important to note that my trip wouldn’t have been nearly as impactful without our Thai supervisor, Fai. She made the trip everything that it was.
Such an amazing experience!!

I loved this experience! It truly was a great mix of both worlds and I would rave about it to any one who asked! Highly recommend to all!!! Therapy Abroad will be an unforgettable experience for me. I appreciated how smoothly everything went ranging from breakfast to transportation/execution of the activities. Amazing Faculty and Student Experience
June 03, 2025by: Krysta Green - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
This program was my 6th with Therapy Abroad. I continue to be impressed with TA’s organizational strategy, in country support, and interaction with our university study abroad office. It’s a joy being able to focus on students and clinic, while TA organizes logistics — food, accommodations, transport, activities — with fun and safety at the core. If you are faculty and have every considered creating or updating your department’s study abroad offering for undergrad or graduate students, I highly recommend Therapy Abroad!
Great trip! Was so busy but great!
June 03, 2025by: Lili Dyer - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I loved this program so much! I learned so much about the history and culture of Bulgaria and Greece and will forever be thankful I did it. The only critique I would have is that we had more free time. I know we have a lot to do in these two weeks but it’s very necessary for us to have time to explore on our own and rest! By the last day I was so exhausted from the constant go go go I don’t feel like I got to enjoy it as much. Also maybe giving us options for restaurants so we have a little more choice! Overall the hotels, staff, food arrangements and everything was amazing. I felt so safe and taken care of. Emo, Stoycho and Jayme were outstanding. I couldn’t have asked for better guides! Thank you for this amazing experience I truly am so thankful and will never forget it!
I had an amazing experience!
June 03, 2025by: Maisie Coleman - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I am leaving with so much more knowledge in many different aspects. I have learned about different cultures, and gained confidence with my abilities to communicate. I felt safe and I also felt like I was being cared for throughout my experience. Everyone positively contributed to this whole experience. I couldn’t be more grateful!
Great education experience!
June 03, 2025by: Ella FlanaganI had a great time learning and experiencing different cultures and meeting new people. The hands on work with individuals was very educational! Overall had an amazing time! One thing I would change is the order of activities. I felt that everything in Bulgaria worked out great and moved smoothly into the next activities. For Greece, I think having Athens first and then going to santorini would have been more relaxing. In Athens we did so much on our feet and had only one break the whole day, instead of doing Santorini first, it would be more relaxing if we could do the walking and touring in Athens and then have time to just hang out and sleep like we did in Santorini!
Wonderful experience!
May 27, 2025by: Jordan Kosko - United StatesThis was my first time traveling outside the country and therapy abroad made traveling easy and smooth. Sun, Service, and Self-Discovery: An Unforgettable Adventure in Dominica
April 27, 2025by: Natalie Gray - United StatesMy time in Dominica was nothing short of incredible! The opportunity to engage with the community, embrace the vibrant culture, and apply the skills we’ve been honing was both professionally enriching and personally transformative. I learned so much, including that coconuts are not as easy to open as they look. This trip left a lasting mark on me, both personally and professionally. Bridging Cultures & Expanding Horizons: A Transformative Study Abroad Experience with Therapy Abroad
March 18, 2025by: Amy Yacucci - United StatesTherapy Abroad provided exceptional coordination and support for Illinois State University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders during our recent faculty-led, short-term study abroad program in Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey. Their expertise in planning and logistics ensured a seamless and enriching experience for both faculty and students, allowing us to focus on meaningful cross-cultural learning and professional engagement. From the outset, Therapy Abroad demonstrated an impressive level of collaboration, working closely with our faculty to design an itinerary that balanced academic rigor with hands-on experiences. Their attention to detail in scheduling site visits, arranging accommodations, and facilitating in-country transportation made navigating multiple international locations effortless. Throughout the trip, their team remained flexible and responsive, adapting to unforeseen circumstances with professionalism and efficiency. A defining feature of this program was the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including individuals with disabilities, local government officials such as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and esteemed academic institutions like Metropolitan College in Athens and Üsküdar University in Istanbul. Therapy Abroad’s well-established partnerships in these countries provided us with invaluable opportunities to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and broaden our global perspectives on speech-language pathology and disability advocacy. Beyond logistics, Therapy Abroad prioritized cultural humility, ensuring our group was well-prepared to navigate linguistic and cultural differences with respect and sensitivity. Through pre-departure training and on-the-ground guidance, they fostered an environment where students could engage thoughtfully with local communities, developing both their clinical and intercultural competencies. The emphasis on linguistic diversity was particularly commendable, as students gained firsthand experience working with multilingual populations and learning about the intersection of language, identity, and communication disorders in different cultural contexts. Overall, Therapy Abroad exceeded our expectations in every aspect of this study abroad program. Their commitment to excellence, cultural competency, and student-centered learning made this an unforgettable and transformative experience. We highly recommend Therapy Abroad to any institution seeking a well-organized, impactful, and enriching global learning opportunity.

Truly the greatest experience of my life.
March 16, 2025by: Samantha Smith - United StatesI was so nervous to study abroad until I arrived in Dominica. Therapy Abroad has the best team. We had the opportunity to work with children and adults. I also had the opportunity to make powerful connections with my peers while I was here. Without the entire team including Therapy Abroad, I wouldn’t have made it. We all supported one another and now we have a strong connection. Most of my peers I didn’t even know before arriving, that’s how powerful this trip was under the leadership of Katie. We had many excursions outside of clinical, in which I really got to know my peers and faculty. I hope Therapy Abroad expands, because it’s such a great opportunity to gain knowledge from these professionals and see your personal growth. I know so grew a lot in just the 10 days I was in Dominica. The knowledge I gained from Therapy abroad will significantly impact the way I handle things in the future as a professional.
I had the best time in Dominica!
March 16, 2025by: Allie Curtis - United StatesThe trip was amazing. It was such a great learning opportunity. It was nice to be immersed into a culture that was different than my own. I loved the layout of this trip. The first 2 days of the trip focused on getting settled in and more fun activities. Then, we worked in the morning and had excursions in the afternoon (or flextime). The last 2 days were fun activities. It was nice to have the best of both worlds. At first, I was nervous, but Katie, Jaime, and the locals were so welcoming. I instantly felt like a part of the family. Katie and Jaime were always available to talk when/if I needed them. I talked to both a couple times, and they both took the time to talk with me and gave me advice. They are both kind, compassionate, and supportive. They are both amazing and could not have imagined this trip without them and their guid. They made it very enjoyable. Through this experience, I did not imagine myself growing as much as I did.
An awesome spring break that is a mix of adventure and learning.
March 16, 2025by: Layla Beals - United StatesI’ve enjoyed my time in Dominica. I felt safe and supported the whole week. I was challenged to be flexible and go outside my comfort zone. It’s been a rewarding and challenging experience. Being here has been a dream. It’s so beautiful and the people are welcoming. I’ve got experiences as a junior in the undergraduate program that I would never have been able to get in the states. It’s hard to summarize my time here in only a few words, so check out my blog https://global-affairs.ecu.edu/2025/03/07/layla-dominica/
A once in a lifetime experience
March 16, 2025by: Caleigh Jones - United StatesTherapy Abroad is an incredible experience. The dedicated staff provide the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of Dominica, connect with its wonderful people, and take part in unforgettable excursions. Beyond that, it’s an invaluable learning opportunity, offering hands-on experience in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. If you have the chance to participate, I highly recommend this program!
Experience Of A Lifetime!
March 16, 2025by: Hannah Harris - United StatesDominica is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen! The people here are so welcoming and kind. There is so much to see here, and I hope to come back one day. Katie and Jayme were so awesome and knowledgeable too.
Unique immersive experience
January 13, 2025by: Danielle Mesa - United StatesThe Thai team created an inviting environment to learn and participate in Thai culture in social and academic settings. From shopping in the night markets to collaborating with institutions, I had a change in perceptive for linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Great time in Thailand!
January 12, 2025by: Abby Pounds - United StatesI thought the trip was overall a really unique, educational experience. The programs coordinators and supervisors helped me fall in love with Thailand! It really opened my eyes to a new culture and the possibility of future travel in new countries. I thought the program was relatively well organized. I think the only thing I wish was different was a more accurate schedule/itinerary and I also found the trip to be very speech oriented even though it is an OT/Speech trip. Future pre-OT students might benefit better from being grouped with PT or something more physical. Overall, it was really really great and I am so glad and lucky I got this experience!
Absolutely Amazing!!
January 12, 2025by: Kimberly Mory - United StatesThis study abroad trip exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds! It was the PERFECT mix of clinical experiences with cultural and fun excursions and life-time experiences. I even learned how to snorkel! I cannot thank Katie and the Castle Bruce staff enough for their time and effort in making this such a wonderful experience. We are already planning next year’s trip!

An unforgettable experience
January 12, 2025by: Mercedes Nerios - United StatesMy trip was fantastic. The culture and the people are so kind and make you feel so welcome. I felt like I was at a home away from home. It is hard and bittersweet, sweet leaving. The guide, Katie; the drivers, Kenny and Kent; the cooks, Carlo and Mariana; and the house maintenance lady, Flo. We're all amazing and build genuine connections. I came to Castle Bruce feeling like a stranger and left feeling like family.

The most outstanding learning experience!
January 12, 2025by: Katlyn Blake - United StatesComing to Dominica with Therapy Abroad was one of the best decisions that I made. I was a little hesitant to go at first but after experiencing what I did, I am so glad I made the decision to go! The hospitality of everyone that we encountered was amazing, the food was different was delicious and the places that we go to go were unforgettable. Starting with the skilled nursing facilities (SNF), the were a lot different than what I was expecting but I am so glad that we got to come and make a difference in a place that was so deserving and amazing. The staff at both PHARCS and the Dominican Infirmary were amazing and willing to help with any questions that we had and almost all of the patients were so excited to have us there with them. They were all amazing to work with and I learned so much about my clinical work and about myself and what I am so passionate about which is this field. Working at the schools was also an amazing experience and being able to work with the children who need it the most brought so much joy to my heart and it was such a fulfilling experience. The children were so well behaved in their classrooms and the parents of the children and the staff were very welcoming and willing to help in any way that they could. Home health was a very eye opening experience for me as it was amazing and so crazy to see how to people here in Dominica live when they have the needs that some of the patients did. There were a lot of safety concerns for the patients in terms of their living situation and how they were to get in and out of their house but being able to be there and make the appropriate recommendations that were needed for the patients health, speech and communication, and well being. The excursions were unforgettable and something that I would have never done without being on this trip and Katie and all of the staff with therapy abroad took the most amazing care of all of us while being here in Dominica. Overall, this was the most amazing trip and I am so happy that I got the opportunity to experience everything I got to this trip. Thank you so much Katie and all of therapy abroad for making this trip unforgettable and carry the biggest impact on my academic and professional career as a future speech language pathologist
Thailand is now a core memory!
January 12, 2025by: Maddie Howell - United StatesThe experience had its challenges, but there’s room for improvement in a few areas. The three-hour sitting sessions were tougher than I anticipated, and I wish I had been better prepared for them. When my flight was delayed, it was difficult to figure out who to reach out to for support, which added some stress. Additionally, the schedule wasn’t clearly outlined until midway through the trip, which made it harder to plan ahead. With a few adjustments, these areas could greatly enhance the overall experience.
I have learned so much!!
January 11, 2025by: Martha Cruz - United StatesDominica is so beautiful and everyone is so nice!! It was so safe anywhere we went and everything that we did and had so much fun. I love the split of work in the morning and fun in the afternoon. Overall was such an amazing experience.

Fantastic!
January 11, 2025by: Abigail Magruder - United StatesIt is beautiful! The food is good, the people are amazing, and the experiences are wonderful. Doing study abroad has opened up new opportunities and experiences that I may never have had back at home.
Life changing experience!
January 11, 2025by: Giang (Danielle) Vo - United StatesHello! I'm a graduate student from TWU who had the incredible opportunity to participate in a study abroad program in Dominica. This experience allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture, try a variety of local foods, and embrace a different way of life. In addition to the cultural immersion, my main focus was providing speech and language therapy to those in need. This was made possible through a partnership between Therapy Abroad and TWU. It has truly been an unforgettable experience—I’ve worked with the most appreciative and grateful individuals, both adults and children. Along the way, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of compassion and respect for diverse ways of living. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

The most wholesome trip!
January 11, 2025by: Marley Mahoney - United StatesThis trip has exceeded my expectations! It was a great balance between helping those who need our services and seeing the beautiful island of Dominica. I have grown so much as a clinician and as a person overall. In just nine days, I learned more about this island and my career than I could have ever imagined. These friendships, memories, and experiences will leave a lasting mark on my life. After this trip, I know I want to come again and serve!

I learned so much more that I thought possible!
January 11, 2025by: Kendra - United StatesWhenever I first signed up for the program I did not know what to expect. I was still nervous whenever I got here and didn’t know how therapy would go. I have completed one semester of my program and felt very unprepared, but when I got here everyone was so nice and helpful. From the very beginning I was able to jump in and experience aspects of therapy that I would have been more resistant to in another setting. The first thing that I did in therapy is the thing that scared me most about the profession and I am now so much more comfortable with it. The entire trip I have had experiences like that. After the trip I have more confidence going into my practicum and future career. I also appreciate how we did excursions and had fun activities outside of therapy. It was a really good balance of experiencing what Dominica has to offer and providing services to those who need it. I am so grateful that I decided to come and will treasure this experience. I am a better clinician for having been involved in the program.

Great Learning Experience!
January 11, 2025by: Kelly G. - United StatesThis program provided a great mix of both clinical and cultural learning experiences. I felt that I was able to grow as a student clinician while still enjoying the natural beauty of the island through excursions like snorkeling. I also have a dietary restriction and everyone was very accommodating and made sure that I had food that was safe for me to eat. I’m very grateful that I was able to attend this program!
Excellent Well Run Program
January 10, 2025by: Amy Nisonger - United StatesI really enjoyed this program. From the supervisors who supported our field experiences, to the program support staff who shared their cultural knowledge as Thailand citizens the program was very well run. I felt supported the entire time and was also given a good balance to become more independent. My group became like a family.
Incredible Opportunity
January 10, 2025by: Cassie Ware - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
This experience meant a great deal to me personally as it was directly linked with my personal cultural background. The trip allowed me to indulge in the Thai culture that I did not feel I fully understood and granted me opportunities that I would never be able to replicate on my own. The staff was incredibly helpful and caring and you can tell they truly care about the wellbeing, both through health and safety, of their participants. The staff is both knowledgeable in the physical therapy field and the culture of Thailand that made it easy to assimilate into this new and scary adventure.

Amazing time
January 10, 2025by: Yocelyn Guzman - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
Coming to Thailand has been one of the best decisions I ever made. Being able to meet new people, gain hand on experience in physical therapy and being with the kids and seeing how much love they have for everyone has been so inspiring to continue giving back and genuinely wanting to help others.
So so grateful for this experience
January 10, 2025by: Zoey Dunbar - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
This experience was so amazing and life changing. I had the best time learning about the Thai culture as well as the realm of physical therapy. The staff of therapy abroad were so compassionate and tried to make each experience so fulfilling. We had many opportunities to explore Chang Mai and also went to many facilities where we observed PT and got to try it out. Overall would recommend to someone!!

The time of my life!
January 10, 2025by: Taylor Byrne - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program

Great Experience
January 10, 2025by: Luke Joseph - United StatesProgram: Thailand: Pre-Physical Therapy College Prep Program
I definitely had a good experience and felt very immersed in all aspects from the culture to the clinical side of things. Our supervisor Amara was fantastic and made us feel very welcomed and safe. Looking forward to making a trip back to Thailand!
I had an amazing experience!
January 10, 2025by: Jordyn Harpenau - United StatesThe therapy abroad team was extremely supportive and made me feel very safe and comfortable. I was provided with a range of experiences and opportunities. The program allows for very hands on tasks that are going to be very beneficial in the future.
Dominica - the best time ever!
November 12, 2024by: Holly Carter - United StatesThis was a life changing experience! I had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings and help others. It was amazing to witness the impact we made while there. I got to see the world in a different perspective by building connections with the people of Dominica. I grew my occupational therapy skills through hands-on experiences. We also had the opportunity to learn about the culture and explore the town. This was a meaningful and eye opening experience that will stay with me forever.

An Unforgettable Learning Experience
October 26, 2024by: Nikki Lynn - United StatesAs a faculty member, my recent experience on a Therapy Abroad Program in Dominica was nothing short of transformative. This unique opportunity allowed both students and faculty to be fully immersed in a culture vastly different from that of the United States. The fieldwork was set in conditions that, while unfamiliar, offered invaluable lessons in adaptability, cultural humility, and resourcefulness—skills essential for any aspiring therapist. One of the most impactful aspects of this experience was the support we received from the Katie, Director of International Programs with Therapy Abroad. Her leadership and organization was great, ensuring that all students and faculty had the guidance, needed to thrive in a challenging yet incredibly rewarding environment. Katie's commitment to our success was evident every step of the way, from pre-departure preparations to on-the-ground logistics in Dominica. This immersion was not only about applying therapeutic skills in real-world settings but also about understanding the profound cultural nuances that shape the ways individuals perceive health, wellness, and therapy. The community in Dominica welcomed us with open arms, offering an authentic experience that deepened our understanding of how therapy could be effectively practiced in different contexts. The program was structured to balance professional growth with personal reflection, allowing us to absorb the beauty and complexities of the Dominican culture. We learned how to navigate challenges such as limited resources and differing health care infrastructures, all while maintaining empathy for the people we served. Overall, this international fieldwork experience was truly life-changing. The combination of an immersive cultural environment, hands-on learning, and outstanding support from Katie, made it a wonderful educational experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this program to any faculty member or student looking to expand their horizons and grow both professionally and personally.

Life-changing!
October 23, 2024by: RachelThe therapy abroad trip to Dominica was a life changing experience. With someone with a lot of general anxiety as well as traveling anxiety, I am so happy I decided to go. Katie made it very smooth by planning out every detail. I felt like I could come to her for anything and that I wasn't alone. We were immersed in the culture and community in a way I never imagined we could be in such a short period of time. The clinical experience we gained was extremely eye-opening, as was the entire trip. I will forever remember my time here and the people we met, the places we were, and how much Dominica and therapy abroad impacted the way I see the world around me.
Trip of a Lifetime! Play while you Work
October 23, 2024by: Claire MoscarelloCan’t thank our leader Katie Kirkland enough for orchestrating a successful fieldwork trip! I never even imagined gaining this much experience in that short of an amount of time. We were truly immersed in the culture while learning and having some valuable down time.

I had a wonderful fieldwork experience
October 22, 2024by: LuluWhether you had previously been outside of the United States or not, Therapy Abroad was a fantastic opportunity to develop professionally, culturally, and personally. The experience is interdisciplinary with tons of opportunities to explore.
Life Changing Trip
October 22, 2024by: Katie SchoonoverI learned so much in only ten days. The coolest part was seeing and experiencing multiple settings of healthcare in a very different culture. It was eye-opening to the way people live and adapt with what they have. Every caregiver had a heart for the people they worked with and you could see them pushing their resources to make their lives better. I also found confidence in my capabilities, knowledge, and flexibility. I left feeling a little less like a student and more like an occupational therapist. It was truly life changing. Also, Katie was absolutely amazing, as a person and supervisor. She made the trip flow and gave us so many different opportunities, she is the best.
This was the best experience!
October 22, 2024by: Ashley LongI could not have asked for a better clinical fieldwork as an occupational therapy student. I gained clinical experience that I will take with me for the rest of my life and cultural immersion to go along with it. I also met amazing people along the way in Dominica and in my group. I will never stop talking about therapy abroad and how amazing this experience was!

I’m looking forward to another trip with Therapy Abroad in the future and would highly recommend participating in their trips.
So much FUN!!

Trip of a Lifetime!
August 19, 2024by: Bhavani Ganesh - United StatesThis trip was truly such a life-changing experience. I had wanted to study abroad for so long but due to COVID and other life barriers, I hadn't been able to until now and I'm so glad I went on this trip. I fell in love with what Thailand had to offer and I was also so happy to help facilitate the AAC camp and bring exposure to an area that hadn't really seen much AAC prior to us coming there. The people we met - Dr. Tammy at Don Kaew, P'Nam at the cooking school, Kru Joy at Thomas House, Nicole at Dulabhatorn were all so great. My supervisors Carly and Laura and the team leaders and interpreters - Paan, PunPun, Jeffrey and Wai were also amazing and invested in our well-being and they ensured that everything ran as smoothly as possible. I'm already dreaming about when I can come back.
Truly a Life Changing Experience
August 10, 2024by: Ruthie Price - United StatesI cannot recommend this program enough. Not only did I get to meet amazing people going into the same field as me but the amount of cultural immersion was incredible. I truly felt like this experience was once in a life time and I recommend this trip to anyone.

The AAC program in Thailand has been incredible!
August 10, 2024by: Santanna Sumauang - United StatesI was able to gain so much hands on experience with a diverse population of students and needs. The staff were all so supportive and welcoming. Bulgaria and Greece 2024
August 01, 2024by: Haley Snedaker - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I had a wonderful time visiting Bulgaria and Greece through therapy abroad. It was my first time out of the country and everyone in charge made me feel safe and supported the whole way through. The 3 men who hosted us were the best travel guides! They were so sweet, cooked amazing meals, and showed us the best spots around Bulgaria! Everything was planned perfectly and the trip went smoothly.

July 18, 2024by: Isabella Gasior - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
This truly was an experience of a lifetime. We got to do so much in the 2 weeks we were there, including exploration, cultural immersion, new cuisine, and, of course, clinical experience! There was a great balance of fun and clinical experience. Even though it was only two weeks, it feels like I have known these girls for years and will continue to stay in contact. My OT mentor was truly amazing in helping me grow as a future OT, giving feedback and encouragement along the way. Our guides were AMAZING and took such good care of us, even spoiling us at times. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who is wanting to gain unique life-changing experiences, clinical experience, and meet new and amazing friends.
Amazing experience, 10/10 recommend!
July 18, 2024by: Halle Stoner - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I had the best time in Bulgaria and Greece. The local guides were absolutely wonderful, they were incredibly welcoming and wanted us to get the most out of our experience. Learning about speech therapy in Bulgaria was eye-opening. I witnessed firsthand the differences between Bulgarian and American cultures and healthcare systems, while gaining new knowledge that I can apply to my future career in the states. I also enjoyed how SLP and OT were both included in this program, as I got to learn a little about work within a multidisciplinary team. Our trip to Greece was an amazing time, but I agree that going back and forth from Athens and Santorini was tiring. Overall, a once in a lifetime experience!
Such a great time!

The guides were simply the best! They make sure we are so safe and taken care of. Met such good friends and go to learn so much hands on experience for OT! Highly recommend this to others. I did notice the SLP program side was a little more developed so looking forward to the growth in OT and it is important to know ahead of time that this is a fast paced trip.
Best experience!
July 05, 2024by: Julia Petree - United StatesProgram: Bulgaria & Greece: Pre-Occupational & Speech Therapy program
I had a great time with Therapy Abroad in Bulgaria and Greece this summer. The three local guys who were our interpreters/cooks/guides and so much more were absolutely phenomenal and welcoming! They were easy to talk to and were there to help with anything needed to make us comfortable and safe. The therapy supervisors (OT and SLP) were also very supportive and there to answer any question. They guided our learning and student group through clinical work. I felt very safe the entire trip and was very well taken care of, even when getting a head injury. In Greece, I had the time of my life with the delicious food and amazing views and activities. It was a bit exhausting going from Athens to Santorini back to Athens, but that is my only note. Overall, great accommodations, staff, and coordination! I created many lasting friendships!
Dominica: An experience I will never forget!
May 07, 2024by: Avory Leander - United StatesGoing on this trip to Dominica with Therapy Abroad was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The people we met are some of the kindest, most welcoming and grateful people I have met in my life. Each person made us feel like family. We got clinical experience in so many different settings (i.e., clinics, schools, in-home) and with populations across the lifespan. We worked with people, shared stories, and built relationships with each patient. It sounds cringy but it was truly life changing. I still keep in touch with some of the people that I met on this trip. I thought the trip also had a perfect ratio of clinical work and exploration. Dominica is a stunning island with even more beautiful people. I would recommend this trip to everyone! I wrote a journal on the flight home to try to capture the emotions from the trip. This was the last part: “To put it simply, this trip has completely explained why we do what we do. We were the very first ones to come and provide therapy to the people of Dominica and I hope that the people on the groups to come get to experience even half of the emotion, sense of community, kindness and reassurance that I did.”

A Transformative Trip to Dominica
May 04, 2024by: Mai McClintock - United StatesI wholeheartedly echo Brooke's sentiments! The memories forged during our transformative week in Dominica will forever hold a special place in my heart. Collaborating with talented individuals to provide SLP services to the local community was profoundly fulfilling. As the inaugural volunteer group offering these services on the island, I sincerely hope our efforts resonated as deeply with them as they did with us. The warmth and kindness of the people we encountered left a lasting impression. i felt safe and welcomed 24/7. Moreover, the unwavering support from the Therapy Abroad team made navigating a foreign land feel effortless. This study abroad experience has undeniably nurtured my growth as a future SLP clinician, and I wholeheartedly endorse Therapy Abroad for anyone seeking similar enriching opportunities. I eagerly anticipate participating in more endeavors like this in the near future.

Dominica: A life changing experience
May 03, 2024by: brookemagill8My recent experience with Therapy Abroad in Dominica was truly life changing. From the moment I arrived on the island, I felt welcomed by its people and immersed in its culture. Working with a diverse range of clients, from children to the elderly, in clinics, schools, and homes provided invaluable experiences that have helped shape me into a better clinician. Each encounter was not just an assessment but an exchange of stories, experiences, and perspectives that left a lasting impact on both me and those I worked with. One of the highlights of the program was the cultural night, where I enjoyed traditional dances and experienced the vibrant Dominican culture. This experience deepened my appreciation for the island's heritage and reinforced the importance of cultural competence in providing effective therapy. Meeting officials such as the Minister for Education, Octavia Alfred, emphasized the significance of our work and the commitment of the Dominican government to its people. This engagement with local leadership gave a sense of collaboration. The most moving aspect of my journey was the people themselves. Genuine, welcoming, and eager to share their stories, they made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. Their resilience, optimism, and unwavering spirit in the face of adversity was truly inspiring and left an everlasting impact on me. Thank you Therapy Abroad! See you next year

What inspired you to travel abroad?
I was inspired to work for Therapy Abroad by a deep commitment to merging clinical excellence with cultural sensitivity—a passion shaped by exploring diverse international contexts and innovative community initiatives. My journey into topics such as Belizean history, Bulgarian history, Mayan and Creole culinary traditions, and culturally responsive educational practices revealed not only how traditional customs, language, and heritage profoundly influence health and well-being, but also the critical role that social determinants of health—such as economic stability, quality education, social support, and access to healthcare—play in shaping overall outcomes.
