Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the Nursing & Public Health program for?

This program is designed for undergraduate and graduate nursing and pre-nursing students (BSN, ASN, or equivalent) interested in gaining cross-cultural experience in clinical and community health settings.

Do I need clinical experience to apply?

No prior clinical experience is required. Our program is structured to accommodate students at different levels of their nursing education. You’ll be supported by Therapy Abroad staff and supervised by licensed healthcare professionals throughout the program.

What kind of work will I be doing?

Students will actively participate in patient care through supervised clinical activities at the largest hospital in Dominica, including inpatient and outpatient departments. You’ll also support home health visits and engage in public health outreach alongside community health workers.

Will I be working directly with patients?

Yes. Students will work directly with patients under supervision—taking vitals, assisting with basic care tasks, supporting health screenings, and helping with patient education during outreach. All activities are appropriate to the individual level of training and guided by clinical staff.

What types of clinical departments will I be exposed to?

Depending on availability and group needs, students may rotate through areas such as internal medicine, outpatient clinics, emergency, maternity, and home health care.
