Great life experience

January 20, 2026by: Joshua Martinez - United States

Program: The Experiment: Japan: Anime & Manga

10

I traveled to Tokyo, Japan for the Anime and Manga program. It was an amazing experience. I met new people along the way. Our leaders were very informed and experienced. I was able to not just learn the anime and manga but also the Japanese culture. My host family was welcoming and I enjoyed my time with them. A great life experience.

Program: The Experiment: Germany: International Relations & The E.U.

I loved visiting Germany so much that I wish to visit again when I am older. I had a lot of fun embracing the new culture and participating with students my age. The best part of the whole trip was trying new food and seeing how different each fast food shop was from those in the U.S.

Truly Amazing Trip.

Program: The Experiment Digital: International Virtual Exchanges

10

In my opinion, this trip was amazing in almost all regards. I have made multiple friends, both in and beyond my group, and my group and I have created an unbreakable bond. The sights were amazing, we often partook in the local transportation, and most importantly, we had freedom in where we wanted to go. For example, one time, around ten or so people in our group went to find a restaurant by ourselves, and we all were able to return to the hostel, with no pushback from our group leaders. Another time, we all planned to meet up at the gates of our hostel and head out to a local park, truly one of the best nights of the trip (maybe even that year)! All in all, from the food, to the culture, to the people, the trip truly immersed me in Japan, and I am so glad I chose to participate.

I love to travel and experience other cultures. I have traveled to the Philippines to see my family and experience Filipino culture. I used to live in Taiwan, so why not go to another Asian country with different beliefs and cultures.

I got inspired to go abroad because I wanted to expand my worldview and I am deeply interested in seeing the politics/international relations of a country other than my own (the United States). I knew I always wanted to learn about another country, but I wanted to actually visit there to authentically learn about the country, rather than have American media teach me. I also got inspired because I want to prove to my community that studying abroad is an option, and that if you work hard then doors will open.

I love travelling and learning about new cultures. Prior to my abroad experience with the Experiment, I traveled to a handful of countrie, and my mother always challenged me and my brother to explore cities beyond the hotels and tourism. She always said the best way to learn about a people's way of life is through their eyes. She always forced us to step out of our comfort zone, and that expanded my interest in what else is out there. I wanted to enrich myself with more knowledge and experience new cultures first hand.
