To participate in a high school exchange program with STS Foundation, you must:
- Be currently enrolled in an American high school
- Be between 15 and 18 years old at the time you travel abroad
- Have maintained a grade average of a C+ or higher in your last 3 years of education
This program has no language requirements. You will learn it through living with a host family and full immersion!
How do I apply for a High School Study Abroad Program?
First, you’ll complete a pre-application form online and pay a small fee. Once your pre-application is approved, you will complete a detailed online application. Then, you’ll meet face-to-face with a local STS Foundation representative for an interview. This is when you’ll discuss your interests and why you want to join the exchange program. Once accepted, you’ll be on your way to an unforgettable adventure!
How do I prepare for my High School Study Abroad Program?
You have access to many resources that provide a better understanding of the country you’re going to and what life is like as an exchange student. There’s also a pre-departure orientation before you leave, giving you vital info and tips. And when you arrive in the host country, there’s another orientation to help you settle in smoothly.
Who will I live with during my High School Study Abroad Program?
Living with a host family as a high school exchange student in a foreign country offers a unique and immersive experience. You become part of their daily life while sharing meals, traditions, and activities, providing a firsthand understanding of their culture. While it might be a bit unfamiliar at first, you’ll find that the warmth and support of your host family make you feel at home.
What support will I have during my High School Study Abroad Program?
From the moment you begin your application, you will have a dedicated STS Foundation representative guiding you through the preparations for your semester or year abroad. Once in your host country, a local representative will meet you in person and assist you in assimilating to your new environment. Your local representative will be available anytime you need them and will check in with you monthly.
