Founded in 2015, Simoonga Thandizani Trust School aims to “Spread the power of brilliant teaching and learning”. It is situated in Simoonga Village in Livingstone right along Nakatindi Road where there is overwhelming poverty in the village and most parents are incapable of paying for the school fees of their children. As a result, the school was established and they offer free tuition and food to the deprived and orphaned youth. The school started with just 3 kids learning from the traditional make-shift structure and now through donations and volunteers, it has modernized its learning environment and has now up to 370 children enrolled in the school. I enjoyed the community-based school!
May 20, 2024by: Ayaka Omori - JapanProgram: Make a Lasting Impact: Teach at a Village School in ZambiaThis school is very community oriented. It's funded by volunteer donations. If you have lots of money, this volunteer is a good choice because the school may ask for donations. Showers and toilets are located outside. It is a pity that there is no hot shower. However, the room are very nice. you have to make your breakfast and dinner as there are no restaurants around. There is a supermarket in town, but it takes about 30 minutes by car. You will enjoy playing with children who live nearby every day, so please visit this school!

Edwin and his team are very warm, kind, wonderful people, who really want to help the children of the village! The atmosphere is very relaxed and warm. The children are also very wonderful, so I would really recommend this place!
Wonderful experience in Simoonga, Zambia!
May 19, 2024by: Mitchell vd Gaag - NetherlandsProgram: Make a Lasting Impact: Teach at a Village School in ZambiaWe really loved our stay at Simoonga Thandizani Trust School! We stayed here for 1 week and didn't know what to expect, but when we arrived Edwin and his team where really kind and helpful with everything! It's a fantastic school where the children of Simoonga and smaller villages around Simoonga can come and get the education they need! I would really recommend to stay at this school and help the children here!

The possibility of supporting people who are in less fortunate situations was inspiring. Having grown up in Germany, I am very grateful for everything a Western country supplies, and I am very aware that things are different in Africa.

What inspired you to travel abroad?
I have a big passion for the children here. While living here in the village, I saw a lot of children who couldn't go to school and I wanted to change that.

I wanted to see and learn more about the world. It’s very easy to get stuck in your own bubble at home, travelling makes you have to get out of your comfort zone.
