Education Internship in Peru
Program Overview
Travel to remote regions of Peru, live alongside local communities, and gain real-world experience as a teacher. This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience leading classes and developing curricula while immersing yourself in rural Peruvian culture.
You’ll join a small school for elementary and secondary students between 6 and sixteen years of age. In the town of Tomepampa, an 8-hour drive from the nearest city, Arequipa, this school is part of an organization dedicated to providing geographically dislocated children access to high-quality education. They also host events and coordinate activities for children living in youth hostels in the area.
This internship will provide you with wide-ranging skill development in education. You’ll get to see what it's like to develop curriculums, plan lessons, and lead classrooms. Working closely alongside your principal and colleagues, you’ll focus on teaching your major’s curriculum, but you can also get involved in English Speaking lessons, and organizing extra-curricular activities for the school’s youth hostel.

Where will interns stay?
Interns stay at a large traditional house with an orchard in central Tomepampa, Casa Primavera. You’ll have access to a shared kitchen or can choose to have your meals prepared for you at a small extra cost.
Can I choose the subject I want to teach during the internship?
Yes, you can choose the subject based on your elementary or secondary education major, and we will aim to match you accordingly with the school's needs.
What qualifications are required to apply for this internship?
To apply, you should either be studying towards or already have a degree in an education-related field and be passionate about working with children and teenagers. You will also need to speak intermediate-level Spanish.
