4 (1)Since 1984

A Raleigh South Africa Expedition is your chance for Adventure. In the stunning Kruger region, you have the chance to take action on some of the world's most pertinent issues through immersive Community projects, and impactful Environmental work. Through our life-changing Adventure Leadership Trek you will develop skills and experiences that will last a lifetime. What are you waiting for? The Greater Kruger area is located between Mozambique, Eswatini, and the world-famous Kruger National Park itself. In comparison to Cape Town, this area encapsulates Africa at its heart, not to mention boasting year-round sunshine. It is a wildlife haven with natural beauty unlike anywhere else in the world. You'll most likely spot plenty of wildlife while you're on our environmental project and trek. You'll be with experienced guides if you're in areas with any of the big 5. Whether you are taking a gap year or want to do something meaningful in your summer, join young volunteers from across the world and a community of thousands of Raleigh Alumni.

Program Highlights

Join a 4, 5, 7 or 10-week long Expedition in the spring, summer, or autumn.

Participate in a community-led project that focuses on finding sustainable solutions to issues such as poverty, low levels of education, food insecurity, and unemployment.

Have a direct impact on the restoration of a healthy habitat on the land bordering the Kruger National Park while immersed in the environmental phase.

Receive support from our local experienced guide, medic, and Raleigh leaders during treks, allowing you to explore a true wilderness with no marked trails, facilities, or shops along the way.

Gain the skills, confidence, and perspective to play a leading role in building a better and more sustainable world for everyone.

What are the advantages of volunteering in South Africa?

Participating in community-led projects, environmental and leadership initiatives, and other volunteer opportunities in South Africa will help to positively impact the environment, make new friends and learn new skills.

Can you volunteer in South Africa?

Volunteering in South Africa is very common, you can volunteer in a variety of different areas, which includes Community development, medical care, conservation projects, teaching and a lot more.

Can I extend my Expedition?

You can prolong your stay as the 7-week projects are a part of the 10-week trip, but only if the 10-week expedition is still available. Please feel free to get in touch with the expedition team if you want to extend, so they can advise you.

Am I allowed to call home?

You can make calls to friends/family at Fieldbase during the project phases. However, we have a 'no phones on project' policy due to unreliable signal and WiFi and we encourage Venturers to have time away from screens.
