Agriculture & Farming Volunteer Projects

by: Our Generation Voluntary Organisation

Add first reviewSince 2004

Our Generation Voluntary Organisation offers an Agriculture and Farming volunteering project in Ghana. This focuses on addressing the difficulties that face orphanages in terms of providing a sustainable food source for children. The project grows food produce and donates this to orphanages to supplement the children’s proper nutrition. Available tasks depend on the season and placement. Generally, volunteers are involved in clearing land for growing crops, assisting with fertilizing the land, developing land for cropping, planting and nurturing crops, teaching farming techniques to local staff, assisting with the purchase and care of stock, and fencing and moving stock. The Agriculture and Farming project is designed for individuals who enjoy the more physical aspect of volunteering and do not mind getting their hands dirty. Responsibilities involve both crop farming and animal farming. Resources and machinery are extremely limited, and most work is very labor-intensive. Volunteers should bring gloves, flashlights, and lightweight scarves—as sun protectors—or a hat, insect repellent, work boots, and a water bottle.
