Looking to gain hands-on conservation experience? Join our student internship program! Whether you're studying in a conservation-related field or have recently graduated, our placements immerse you in the field and engage you in our projects. We offer personalized, practical experiences for each participant.

Our program is ideal for undergraduate or recently graduated biologists seeking career-related work experience abroad. Please note that this is not a leisurely holiday experience.

Join our dynamic team and work across our core programs, including Applied Research (social and ecological) in forests, fynbos, rivers, estuaries, coastal, and marine environments, as well as our Behavioral Change program (community engagement & education). Gain a comprehensive understanding of conservation practices firsthand while doing so.

Program Highlights

Volunteer with NVT, located in a near-pristine natural environment surrounded by an indigenous forest, fynbos (only found in South Africa), unique rivers, and dynamic coastal habitats.
Get the chance to explore the Tsitsikamma Marine Protected Area, the oldest and largest Marine Protected Area in South Africa.
Witness whale and dolphin migration in Plettenberg Bay, awarded Whale Heritage status.
Discover the wildlife of an international hope spot and an important bird and biodiversity area (IBA - Birdlife International), with WESSA Blue Flag and Green Coast award status.
Join this internship any month, with applications accepted all year round.

Rewarding and Inspiring Conservation Internship Experience

I had an incredible experience interning with Nature's Valley Trust (NVT). The hands-on approach to conservation work allowed me to actively contribute to important projects, from estuarine, coastal and marine research activities to assisting with the educational programme. The mentorship I received was invaluable, with the team providing constant support and guidance throughout the internship. I also appreciated the opportunity to work on real-world environmental challenges, making a tangible impact on the local ecosystem while gaining practical skills. The holistic learning environment, combined with a strong sense of community, made my time at NVT both rewarding and inspiring.
