Free cuddles and so much love

May 12, 2023by: Elisabeth Glombiak - Germany

That is what you get while living and working at the cat shelter! After duties like cleaning the property (2 floors), food and water bowls, doing litter boxes, providing medical care and re-filling bowls, the cats would be so happy to share their love with you. Some of them will immediately snuggle, some are shy and need some time, some will also hide. No matter what, it feels so good to hang around cats all day. You will share your room with them, they will be happy to share their lifestyle: being active at night, playing, hunting and come back to bed innocently at 5 in the morning :D I enjoyed my time there so much. The house, staff and other volunteers: it has been easy to feel like home quickly. Like a big commune. The area is nice as well, surrounded by hills you will have a good view from the rooftop. Within a 30 minute walk you can spend freetime in a small town while having a coffee. But make sure to be back at the shelter soon - your furry friends will miss you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after my arrival?

Upon arrival in the volunteer accommodation, located in the Kouvaras region, you can settle into your room and get to know your team and the program before the actual project work starts on the same day or the following morning.

What are my main activities?

As a volunteer, you will be involved in the following tasks:

- feeding and caring for the cats
- cleaning litter boxes
- daily deep cleaning of indoor and outdoor spaces (i.e., balconies, patio)
- arts and crafts activities, e.g., creating animal toys, painting cat houses
- assisting staff in taking a cat to the vet or the airport (for adoption), assisting with social media, or participating in community animal welfare-related events.

How big is the group?

Your team consists of around 8 volunteers.

What does the accommodation look like?

Volunteers are accommodated in a modern, comfortable two-floor family house. There are three bedrooms (single bed, double bed, bunk beds), and a shared bathroom (plus a private bathroom).

There is also a living room with a TV, an outside sitting area, a laundry room, and a fully-equipped kitchen.

Sanctuary cats live in the house so be prepared for kitties wanting to share the bedroom with you.

Are vegan/vegetarian meals possible?

Yes, vegetarians and vegans can be catered for. We ask you to let us know about any special dietary requirements in advance so the team on-site has enough time for arrangements.
