A life-changing experience

In 2021 I started my one year Professional Field Guide Course in South Africa. Beforehand Natucate helped me with my travel preparation, visa organisation and provided me with information about the study matter. Therefore I could begin to study before the course already, which proved to be a big advantage. During the course I stayed in contact with Natucate and received helpful answers whenever I had a question. The service and support of this travel agency is truly remarkable! While attending the course I've not only learnt a lot about nature, wildlife and gained many cool skills, I've also met interesting people and made some good friends. How do I arrive at my destination; do I organize transfers myself?

You will fly into O.R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg) the day before the course starts and book a night at the Emerald Guesthouse, the gathering point for the entire group. You will then board a transfer to Nelspruit and join a group orientation, uniform fitting, and welcome dinner before spending a night in Nelspruit. Here, you will meet the entire team before heading to camp where training commences!

What is the structure of a typical day?

Nature determines the daily routine. Your day typically begins at sunrise. After a light breakfast, you will set out on the first excursion of the day (game drive or bush walk). Then, you return to camp for lunch. Midday is reserved for lectures and leisure, study, or rest depending on your focus. In the afternoon, after lunch, you will get some coffee and tea before going on your second bush excursion. You will retreat to your camp at sunset.

How big is the group?

Usually, up to 20 participants, plus staff members, will be accommodated in the camps.

Vehicle-based course activities are carried out in groups of nine participants, plus staff.

Walking-based course activities are carried out in groups of eight participants, plus staff.

What is the accommodation like?

Your accommodation depends on the location and is simple but comfortable. Most camps consist of a common space for campfires and spare time activities.

Is it possible to receive vegetarian meals?

The food is quite balanced, which is why a vegetarian diet is very well possible.

We need more preparation time for a vegan or gluten-free diet. Please let us know your dietary preferences beforehand and we will do our best to have it arranged.
