Develop your language skills on the Middlebury School in Brazil program, studying in either Niterói or Florianópolis.
Located across the bay from Rio de Janeiro, Niterói offers easy access to the City of Carnival. Its calmer pace makes it an ideal choice for students wishing to immerse themselves in local Brazilian culture while enjoying proximity to one of the world's most festive cities.
Florianópolis is situated on an island featuring breathtaking scenery and vibrant cultural and university life. The capital of Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina is famous for its long stretch of coastline and water activities.
You'll enroll at either the Universidade Federal Fluminense or the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, both of which let you experience firsthand the experience of Brazilian students. Most participants live with host families, though some stay in shared apartments with Brazilian students.
Through the Language Pledge, wherein you promise to speak exclusively Portuguese, and the combination of coursework, various extracurricular activities with peers, internships, or volunteer work, you can expect to "live the language" in Brazil.
