- Help Teach and Create Activities in a Village School
Help Teach and Create Activities in a Village School
by: Marwacodi CBO
You will be volunteering with MARWACODI and its leader, Olivia, who will introduce you to the programs, communities, and beneficiaries. You will work in village primary schools with children aged 6-15. In the Education program, you will support the learning activities and personal development of children and teenagers in rural schools and villages. They are always happy to receive visitors and do something different from their daily school routine. About the program: You will support the school curricula by both working alongside teachers and by proposing your own activities during class time. When schools are closed (September to January and for Easter), you will help carry out fun activities and workshops for children and youth in villages. Class Assistance: As there are many children in each class, you will support the teachers in leading classes and taking care of pupils. Workshop and Activities Development: You will propose workshops and activities that you would like to do, e.g., sports classes, digital technologies classes, art, games, etc. School Material Distribution: You will help gather and distribute to pupils school material such as uniforms and stationery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What documents do i need to come to Kenya?
You will need a passport and, depending on your country, a visa. About a week before your flight to Kenya, you are also required to apply for an eTA (e-travel authorization), which costs about 30USD. You will also need health insurance, as private hospitals are expensive.
How does a volunteers’ day look like?
You will be engaged in volunteering activities for 20-25 hours per week, mostly Monday to Friday or Saturday. There is no typical day, and we welcome creativity and new ideas. When you are not volunteering, you are free to travel, explore, or do whatever you want. If you like it with us, you can also extend your volunteering time, as long as there is space in our accommodation!
Do I need vaccines?
Depending on your country of origin, you might need compulsory vaccines or not. You should consult with your doctor about vaccination, timely before coming to Kenya. In general, recommended vaccines include hepatitis A, tetanus, typhoid, and yellow fever.
What are the requirements to participate?
The only requirements are to be at least 18 years old and to know English at a conversational level, since it is the language you will use every day. We are happy if you bring enthusiasm, ideas, and a willingness to do good.
How will you help me before i come to Kenya?
You will be in contact with us through WhatsApp or email. We will help you with travel arrangements, documents, and vaccines, and set expectations, giving you information about your experience in Kenya, in a meeting before your arrival.
