Become a volunteer at the Makuyu Education Initiative, a children’s home started in 2011. Your participation in our project involves learning about our children and gaining insight into their lives. Identify their academic strengths and weaknesses, and provide tutoring to those who require assistance with their homework. You will also help with other tasks, such as the following: - Taking photos/videos for fundraising purposes - Assisting with health checkups - Improving meal plans to ensure proper nutrition - Handling other duties around the school You have the freedom to incorporate and work around your ideas as well! It's incredible to be immersed in the peace you will find at Makuyu. Tasks are generally simple in nature: helping with the laundry, cleaning, preparing food, and helping the children with their classwork. The staff is very friendly and happy to share about their lives or teach you a bit of Kikuyu or Swahili. You get used to a different pace of life and a simpler way of living, which can change you for the better if you let it. The children are very sweet and one of my favorite parts was walking with them to school in the mornings.
