This project was created to provide essential healthcare services to vulnerable residents in one of the poorest regions of Mexico. It enables medical students, nurses, paramedics, and semi-qualified medical practitioners to volunteer in local hospitals and clinics in and around Oaxaca—a historic, inland city nestled in beautiful mountains. The level of direct involvement and patient care depends on the volunteer’s knowledge and training. In some cases, suitably trained and experienced participants may be more hands-on, helping fulfill a huge need in a region where there are often insufficient numbers of medical staff. Junior medical and pre-med students will find this project to be mainly observational, an excellent opportunity to gain firsthand insight into Mexico's healthcare system. ...
