Love Volunteers partners with a local charity in Rwanda in this crucial program, which is geared toward families affected by the country’s troubled history and economic fallout.
The Abagore Farming Co-operative (‘Abagore’ means ‘women’) supports participating families by providing supplies and a willing volunteer group to assist with a labor-intensive farming program. Many of the families the charity works with are headed by women, so the cooperative was set up to enable them to earn money and look after their families. The women grow maize, carrots, and cabbages and farm some pigs to sell in markets in the area. They don't only earn an income that benefits their families, but they also contribute to food security and the improvement of nutrition and health in the community.
The women in the Abagore Farming Co-operative learn the value of trading skills and go on to train more women in the community. Our partner helps them to access markets in the area and become small business leaders, which in turn creates more jobs for other community members.
