Why choose Love The Oceans?

Love The Oceans is a grassroots marine conservation organisation committed to protecting our planet’s oceans through innovative, community-driven solutions. We believe that healthy marine ecosystems are vital for the well-being of both people and wildlife, and our mission is to create scalable conservation strategies that can be replicated in coastal regions around the world. By combining cutting-edge science, education, and sustainable practices, we empower coastal communities to take the lead in protecting their marine resources. From monitoring megafauna like sharks and rays to reducing ocean trash and promoting sustainable fishing, our projects are designed to address the unique challenges of ocean conservation while ensuring lasting, positive impacts for the people who rely on these ecosystems. Our work has received international recognition. We’ve been named one of 15 global grassroots #ForcesForChange by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, won the Blue Marine Foundation’s Ocean Award, won the 2024 Gender Just Climate Solutions award for our gender equity projects and celebrated the designation of our project area as a Mission Blue Hope Spot. Through our ethical conservation expeditions, we offer individuals the opportunity to get hands-on with marine research and community work, contributing to real solutions for ocean health. Join us in empowering communities and conserving oceans—because protecting our planet starts with local action and global vision.

Fantastic experience involving plenty of scuba diving and a great way to learn more about the community and marine environment. Amazing opportunity to further develop great skills applicable in many fields and coming away having helped with an important project for both education and future preservation of an important ecosystem. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in all marine and conservation related fields.

I did the two week program and had to go back for the 5 week program. It was such an amazing experience and I’ve made friends for life from it. I highly recommend it. From diving to the cultural experience was truly life changing. It’s really firmed the idea that I want to go into marine biology

Going to Mozambique was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for a number of reasons. Firstly, I was supposed to go as part of my degree but due to covid restrictions, it was cancelled. I held my place however and had the opportunity to go after I finished university. The work we did there was fun, enjoyable while also being educational and important for the development of an NGO (coral reef health and fisheries research). I also had the opportunity to get my open water, advanced and rescue certification with the PADI centre at the resort. The staff were Incredible, from the owners of the resort to the diving staff, waiting staff and of course the founder of Love The Oceans herself. You can tell Francesca (founder) cares a lot about the research and marine environment as a whole while also helping her volunteers further their careers after they leave. This is done by having a group chat where she posts any job opportunities she finds, including the job I now have in the Maldives working with tiger sharks. Getting this job would not have been possible without her sending me the application, helping me with my CV and also giving me an amazing reference. Going to Mozambique helped me achieve my dream of becoming a marine biologist and I am forever grateful. I would highly recommend going for anyone who is interested in marine biology and wants to kick start their career.

My time in Guinjata, Mozambique with Love the Oceans, was such a special experience. The internship was set up so so well, with amazing expertise and management to help you along the way! The most beautiful location, with some amazing like minded people, led to the an experience of a lifetime. The range and exposure to different research techniques waa invaluable and paired with fantastic diving with Jay’s Pro Dive, has made my introduction to marine research post uni very special and a great way to get me hooked in the marine biologist life. I couldnt recommend this experience more. I have come away with alot of great experience in field work and with friends for life.
