Malawi Wildlife Conservation and Research Fellowship Online

Join this remote research to be part of the wildlife conservation and research conducted at the Kuti Wildlife Reserve. With pressure from poachers and farmers, the reserve is suffering as a conservation area that depends on tourism. Join Dr. Hezy, who recently starred in Nat Geo WILD’s Jungle Animal Rescue TV show, and her team to help with surveillance of the reserve.

Projects include aerial drone surveys to learn to identify species from the sky and generate population density data. Camera traps are used to assess body condition scores, injuries, and signs of snaring. If any injuries are noted, the team is sent out to investigate. Using a one-health perspective, students compile published research for a grant proposal to research wildlife and livestock reservoirs of sleeping sickness in Malawi.

Each six-week fellowship requires 100 research hours. Students can earn 200 research hours with our twelve-week sessions. Upon completion, they earn a certificate in Aerial Drone and Camera Trap Techniques for Surveying Wildlife Populations and Health from Loop Abroad. University credit is not included. No experience is required.
