I loved exploring Costa Rica from the wildlife to local communities and food!

This experience of traveling to and studying abroad in Costa Rica is truly unforgettable. From living in the middle of the rainforest to exploring jungles, beaches, and the OSA Penninsula (the most biodiverse place in the WORLD), to working with many new animals, I am so grateful for all these new experiences. During these 6 weeks, I was able to learn more about the veterinary field by working with various different species such as kinkajous, sloths, and Amazon parrots while immersing myself in a new cultural and working environment. Through the lectures, lab sessions, and on the field, I saw the importance of conservation medicine. For example, I was given the opportunity to help at the forefront of sea turtle conservation and research. With my team, I worked directly on the turtles to collect data for repopulation efforts as well as partook in important mangrove reforestation. Loop Abroad's expansive curriculum, filled with detailed lecture material, also allowed me to gain so much hands-on experience. I enjoyed applying conceptual information in a practical setting. I learned from numerous veterinarians and professional staff with diverse experiences and areas of expertise. They were all very knowledgeable, willing to answer any questions, and took every opportunity to teach. They were also welcoming and attentive to all the students, which made transitioning between each program easier. During my time here, I met so many new people from all over the world! I loved learning about them, hearing their experiences, and where they came from. Sure, being in a whole new country with a bunch of strangers can be intimidating, but we grew so close so fast and still keep in touch to this day! I even met up and hung out with one of them in New York. I'll miss waking up to squirrel monkeys and scarlet macaws outside my window; heading out on the boat to study wild dolphins and sea turtles while encountering a wild juvenile whale shark; hiking with over 2,000 dogs. Furthermore, I loved not only trying the new foods including patacones, Casados, rambutan, and fresh coconuts on the beach but also meeting new people who made my time here all the more memorable. From visiting the National Park Manuel Antonio to going hiking to exploring the town to visiting a cocoa farm, I appreciate all the times we were able to take a day off our busy schedule to explore the country's beautiful culture and localities. Overall, I would definitely recommend joining the Costa Rica Pre-Vet Summer Semester Program! During these 6 weeks, you will have so many new adventures, animals, and friends all over the world. I'm thankful for the amazing opportunity to further explore wildlife, exotics, marine, and conservation veterinary medicine. Costa Rica will forever have a special place in my heart. PURA VIDA!
