Wonderful language program!

LTL school has been an amazing organization. We have sent both of our kids to this program, 3 years apart, and their experience was exceptional. Riona Chen was great to work with, and this year our youngest daughter’s teacher Juju, was a delight. The homestay experience was also incredible. They stayed with Liz Hu and family and had an equally memorable and fun time. I was very impressed that all of the teachers and everyone involved with the program remembered us 3 years later! Thank you for being such a great program!

Response from provider

Sending both kids three years apart and the whole team remembering you, we could not be prouder of that! Juju, Riona and Liz Hu will all be so happy to hear this. Thanks so much for your continued trust in LTL and we hope to see the family again soon! LTL Team

Fun and flexible 2 weeks of 1-on-1 classes and live experience

My experience with LTL has been great: fun, flexible and unforgettable. As a Chinese heritage speaker I went looking for a school that would offer an individualised learning experience with “live-action“ support in Taipei, and from the start LTL‘s team were attuned to my needs and wishes. My student advisor Josephine answered each and every one of my questions in detail, and she followed up with a structured plan within a few days. I decided on 1-on-1 classes for 2 weeks with 20 classes per week, 50% of them being safari classes, and the connection kit. Safari classes are outings into Taipei i.e. store or museum visits that are accompanied by your language teacher to give you real-life Mandarin speaking experience. The connection kit meant that I was set up with a Mandarin-speaker in Taipei to go out with. The online onboarding couldn‘t have run more smoothly thanks to highly detailed enquiries, to an online placement test and to a video call with Alin to get a feel for my actual speaking level and to answer any eventual questions I might have had before coming to Taipei. Additionally, LTL provided detailed guides on how to get through the airport and into the city itself, and they added me to the Line student group in advance. That way if I had had any questions I could have asked LTL Taipei‘s team any time. On my first day at LTL my teacher Issa took great care to check in with what I wanted to focus on including my interests for the safari classes. She then drew up a plan for both our textbook Chinese lessons and potential outings. I appreciate her gentle and flexible approach that encouraged me while being very clear on the areas that I needed to improve, in my case mostly the tones. She offered consistent corrective feedback on my intonation and introduced me to a method to acquire a more natural pronunciation. In the first week we focused more on the textbook lessons in MTU’s ”A Course in Contemporary Chinese“ to give me a starting point. At the same time Issa left plenty of room to go on tangents related to my stay in Taipei. I felt very well guided, though the pace was high with 20+ new vocabulary per day and short reviews. In the second week we focused more on Safari classes with pre-scheduled outings to a bubble tea shop, to the stationer‘s, to a day market, to a post office and to a tea house among others. Issa went above and beyond to prepare me for these outdoor assignments with individualised vocabulary lists and example dialogues. She also provided rich insights into Taiwan‘s everyday life and plenty of suggestions for places to visit and foods to try. While I felt quite a nervous to speak to shopkeepers with my basic Chinese skills Issa‘s support helped me to build up my confidence to go out to apply my Chinese even after the language classes were over. In addition to all these intensive classes the team at LTL Taipei made my stay unforgettable by organising frequent and diverse social events i.e. almost daily lunch outings, creative Taiwanese craft workshops, a museum visit, a KTV night, a Mahjong afternoon, etc. A shout-out to Sunny! Her infectious enthusiasm and inventiveness made my stay at LTL unforgettable. Plus other teachers and staff would join some of these events and even expand them at times. So even though I had 1-on-1 classes I still got to connect to other students every day. My only hiccup was related to the connection kit when my original partner became unavailable, but Riona and Sunny resolved it within 2 days‘s time. The administration at LTL Taipei is flawless! I can‘t recommend LTL Taipei enough! They provide such a comprehensive experience way beyond just language classes! So if you consider attending, make sure to leave enough room in your schedule to enjoy the full experience. Taipei‘s team guarantees that you will Live The Language!

Response from provider

This is super nice to read!! Bubble tea shops, day markets, post offices and a tea house all in Mandarin and with Issa by your side! We are thrilled the safari classes and social events made your two weeks so memorable, and Josephine, Alin, Sunny and Riona will all love reading this. Thanks so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review and keep up the great work studying Mandarin! LTL Team

A truly amazing experience

This is my fourth summer studying at LTL Language School in Taipei, and each experience has been truly amazing. All of the teachers—including Sissy, Kate, Tammy Xu, Anqi and Francine, whom I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know—are incredibly dedicated and supportive, and they have helped me make great progress in my language skills. Although I don’t have many opportunities to practise during the rest of the year, I notice a clear improvement every time I return to LTL. It’s a wonderful place to learn, grow, and stay motivated! The class levels are well organised and I always felt well in my group. If your own language level doesn’t match that of the class, you can easily switch to a different level. The admin staff – Sunny, Riona and Alin – are very friendly and help with every little thing. This starts right from the preparation for the summer course. The social events are brilliant and give you the chance to get to know both Taiwanese culture and the other students better. Would I recommend the LTL School? ABSOLUTELY...

Response from provider

Four summers in a row is just wonderful, Luyi! We could not ask for a better endorsement than that :) Sissy, Kate, Tammy, Anqi, Francine, Sunny, Riona and Alin are all going to love reading this. Thanks so much for taking the time and keep up the great work studying Mandarin. We cannot wait to see you back for summer five! LTL Team

A great way to learn Chinese in Taipei

I spent six weeks at LTL Taipei taking a 1-on-1 Chinese course. From the beginning, everything was easy and well organized. Communication before my arrival was smooth, the classes were great, and there were plenty of activities outside of class. Even though I had 1-on-1 lessons, I still got to know other students and teachers quite easily. The atmosphere at the school is very friendly and relaxed. There are many international students speaking English, and many people in Taipei speak good English as well. But if you make an effort to meet locals and use Chinese in everyday life, there are still plenty of opportunities to practice. Taipei itself is also a great city to study in—very convenient, easy to get around, and there’s always something to do. Just be prepared for the VERY hot and rainy weather in June/July! I had Jessica 老師 as my teacher, and she quickly understood my level and asked what I wanted to achieve. Although I had learned Simplified Chinese before, that wasn’t a problem at all. LTL Taipei teaches both Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and I got used to Traditional much faster than I expected. Since my main goal was to refresh my Chinese and improve my speaking, Jessica adapted the lessons to me instead of just following the textbook. From day one, we spoke almost entirely in Chinese, which helped a lot with my listening and speaking. I had classes every morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., but I never felt overwhelmed and the four hours always went by surprisingly quickly. Jessica was also very kind and supportive—she even brought me breakfast a few times! After six weeks, I could really feel that my Chinese had improved. There were different activities every week, such as Mahjong, karaoke, museums, cultural activities, and group lunches near the school. Sunny and Riona put so much effort into organizing everything. They were always friendly and approachable, and they definitely made the course more enjoyable! Alin organized my classes and found a teacher who was a really good match for me. Greta was also very helpful before and during my stay. I had some issues with my original homestay arrangement, and she took my concerns seriously and really tried to help find a solution, which I appreciated a lot. The only thing I think could be improved is the homestay program. From my own experience and from talking to other students, the quality of host families seems to vary quite a bit. It would be helpful to have more consistent standards regarding things like cleanliness, distance from the school, and how involved the host family is. I also think it would be better to get information about the homestay earlier. Considering the price, renting a private room or apartment nearby can sometimes be a better option. Of course, I’m sure there are also many great host families—it may just depend a little on luck. Overall, I’d definitely recommend LTL Taipei to anyone thinking about studying Chinese in Taiwan. I learned a lot in six weeks, met some really nice people, and had a great time. If I come back to Taipei, I’d definitely consider taking another course at LTL.

This school is amazing

This is my second time taking classes at this school. I was here a year ago and liked it so much that I came back. The instructors are extremely passionate about teaching and want to make sure you’re actually learning. Classes are small so they feel very personal. The school also organizes outside activities so it is easy to make friends and practice the language. The school really deeply cares about your experience. Every instructor is very kind and friendly. They want to include you as much as is comfortable. I am an introvert and felt it was very easy to integrate.

So glad your second time at LTL was just as great as your first, Dylan :) Really enjoying seeing your progress and we hope you come back for a third!! LTL Team

Couldn’t have made a better choice!

From the beginning the staff were super helpful and provide many resources for settling into Taipei! Greta is always available to reach out to before or during your program. As a complete beginner learning Mandarin will always be a challenge but the teachers offer a variety of teaching styles that help test many different skills that are needed to be a great Mandarin speaker! My teachers, Jialin and WeiWei are super accommodating and have always helped us when we had any questions, they’re also so lively that I look forward to attending class! Meanwhile Riona and Sunny always conduct voluntary events that help with cultural immersion and even host lunches! The combination of super friendly and helpful staff to its incredible teachers to the schools ability to constantly provide students with extra curricular activities have made my experience learning mandarin so exciting and fun! LTL is not only a school in my opinion but also a community.

Love to hear it, David. Real pleasure to hear how much you enjoyed your time in Taipei with us, and we're glad the team left a great impression on you :) Come back next year!! LTL Team

Everyone is so inviting and inclusive and there is a really good atmosphere to learn while having fun! I have two wonderful teachers, as-well as other staff that that are super kind who organise awesome events! I was not sure what I was going to expect coming to the centre, but I honestly could not rate it higher. I am definitely considering coming back.

Gem in the heart of Taipei

I stumbled upon this place while visiting Taiwan and decided to spend a couple of weeks working on my Chinese (after getting frustrated that everyone seemed to speak English in and around the hotel I was staying at). It turned out to be a great decision; really welcoming staff (shout out to Greta, Alin and Riona), lots of social activities with friendly students of various ages, levels and backgrounds and an immersive teaching environment, which was absolutely what I needed to give my faltering Chinese a much-needed push. I'm really grateful to both of my teachers, Jessica and Jack, who were both knowledgeable and engaging and were able to adapt my one-to-one time with them to suit my specific language learning needs. I'll definitely pay the Taipei LTL school another visit next time I'm in the country!

LTL Taipei is where it's at!

I've had a wonderful three weeks here at LTL Taipei. They are very organized, the teachers are all skilled and enthusiastic, and the non-teaching staff (particularly Riona and Sunny) do such a great job creating a community out of a group of students from a diverse array of backgrounds and Chinese ability levels (organized lunches and cultural excursions/activities every week!!). I really might come back next year! I started off in a group class for one week and switched to 1-on-1 for the latter two, and I'm grateful LTL was flexible with me on this. This is a company, not a university, so there aren't any exams or a rigid pace. This is both good and bad; it means they're way more flexible with adult learners' schedules and the atmosphere is welcoming and non-stressful, but it also means students aren't as disciplined and the teachers are accustomed to giving very little homework, which means slow language progress. For motivated students I strongly recommend the 1-on-1 classes so that you can go at the fastest pace that feels comfortable to you; I would only recommend the group classes for complete beginners or those okay with a very slow pace.

Response from provider

We are thrilled Riona, Sunny and the whole Taipei team made such a great impression and we will make sure they see your kind words! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such an honest and balanced review, feedback like this genuinely helps us improve. Keep up the great work studying Mandarin and we really hope to see you back next year! LTL Team

Great opportunity to study Mandarin in Taipei

I studied at LTL Taipei for a month, and would massively recommend the experience to anyone else interested in learning Chinese and visiting Taiwan. The teachers and staff are all incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and go out of their way to make sure that all the students have the best possible learning environment, and provide a couple of enjoyable, free cultural activities every week as well as daily lunch trips to great (and great-value) local spots. The teaching was at a really good level and I felt that I was really able to improve my level, especially by practicing conversations and speaking , just learning characters from the textbook. I think this is especially valuable if you're at an intermediate/upper-intermediate level and want a chance to apply your vocab to talking about whichever topic you want. Studying was super flexible, and it was super easy to change levels or book new classes when I wanted to. The only thing I can't comment on is the housing/accom situation because I rented independently - but otherwise would happily recommend it.

2 Week Intensive 1:1 Taipei LTL

I completed the 2 week intensive classes 1:1 at Taipei LTL and I really enjoyed my experience. I believe I received what I paid for, as the classes were 'intensive' and filled with constant Mandarin learning! My teachers - Jessica and Chienyi were patient with me and helpful with answering my questions. Their teaching methods were diverse which helped me consolidate my learning. I also enjoyed the conversations during class and how the teachers would allow time for this. It was what I requested for my lessons to be like ('conversational' alongside with studying the textbook, grammar, etc.). I also stayed with a lovely Taiwanese family who were very accommodative and patient with me when I spoke Mandarin. I also enjoyed the conversations I had with them very much. They took care of me well and I had a great experience during my first time in Taiwan.

Two weeks at LTL Taipei

I’ve been at LTL Language School in Taipei for two weeks and can wholeheartedly recommend it. Right from the start preparation and booking went smoothly and I was sorted into the right level for my Chinese proficiency- thanks to Greta, Riona and Alin. They offer different classes, optional accommodation and a few extras. I chose group class (4h) in the morning and one-on-one lessons in the afternoon (2h). Overall this was pretty intense and one could consider either reducing the hours or making it more playful with their safari classes where your teacher takes you to different places in the city. However, I learned a lot in my six hours per day and both my teachers Anqi and Vivian made sure that the lessons fit to my level. They really made it fun and engaging and encouraged interaction and conversation. The one-on-one classes were a great place to review specific grammar that I struggled with and to further practice talking and listening. I usually joined the lunch group - Riona took us to several restaurants and helped with ordering the right food. The school also offers different optional activities like Mahjong, traditional pottery or cooking. If you can, I would recommend staying for at least a month to really benefit from the immersion.

My Taiwanese culture immersion

It has been now four weeks that I started to learn Chinese with LTL Taipei and this is an incredible experience and adventure that offers me to meet new people from all around the world as well as discovering the Taiwanese culture throughout many different activities and lunch with other students. And at the same time The school found a homestay for me and I’m leaving with an old Taiwanese couple that allows me to practice my language skills every day. I strongly recommend for anyone who would like to leave an immersive experience in another culture, as well as intensely learning a new language !!!!

My teachers were Tammy X and Francine. Excellence has a name ! And this vibrant atmosphere ! Yes, after a morning class your head is probably smashed, yet you feel it's gotta going ... My time in Taiwan

My time in Taiwan has been nothing short of amazing, from the moment I arrived, this journey has been packed with language learning, cultural discovery, and the incredible privilege of meeting students from every corner of the world. Being able to be in Taiwan and immersed has taught me more than I expected. From day one, the LTL Taiwan team (Riona and Alin) made everything effortless. They were there to help me from the second I stepped off the plane, guiding me to my housing, and answering every single question I had, no matter how big or small. That level of care instantly set the tone for my entire experience such support and genuinely invested in my success. What really stands out about LTL is the environment they create. It’s quite rare to find a place where teachers and staff (Sissi & Tammy & Thomas & Pinwei 老師)are committed to meeting you exactly where you are and helping you grow from there. Every teacher I’ve worked with gives 100%, every single day. They’re patient, thoughtful, encouraging, and so dedicated to helping you improve that you can’t help but feel inspired to push yourself. But what makes this program stand out is how they connect culture with learning. They don’t just teach you a language they help you live it. Whether it’s exploring local traditions, trying new foods, or navigating everyday life in Taiwan, the LTL team makes sure you’re not just studying abroad you’re truly experiencing it. I still remember when I first started looking into language programs. I reached out online staff (Greta and Marine), and from that very first message, they were nothing but kind, thoughtful, and incredibly helpful. They walked me through all the options, helped me figure out what would suit me best, and made the entire process feel smooth and personalized. That kind of support before you even join the program says everything about the heart of LTL. Looking back now, choosing LTL was honestly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If you’re thinking about traveling abroad to study a language whether it’s Chinese or any of the other programs they offer LTL should absolutely be at the top of your list. It’s a place where you’ll learn, explore, and be supported every step of the way. I’d highly, wholeheartedly recommend LTL to anyone searching for an unforgettable and rewarding language experience.

My time in LTL Taipei!

From the first week in Taipei, I was completely amazed of how helpful and quick the staff (Riona & Alin) were from landing at the airport, helping get me to my place, and any other inquiries I had! I have been now in Taiwan for 2 months and have met them personally and been invited to many events that the hold. The environment and people are so encouraging and thoughtful of everyone wellbeing. If I were to choose to have a short or long experience learning mandarin and having an amazing sightseeing experience it would be here 100%. Even if you have small inquiries the online staff (Greta & Marine) are so helpful in understanding and guiding you to which programs can be helpful for you to succeed and progress in mandarin. The Taipei program also has a lot of international students that are so kind and come from all over, you would be sure to make long lasting friends here! I would go with this institution again for any future language travels 👍

Awesome intense Mandarin class in Taipei

It was a great decision to spend my educational leave (Bildungsurlaub) at the LTL language school in Taipei. Here are the reasons: + very professional teachers (mine were Tammy, Francine, Yunni and Wolfgang) who + explained grammar and new vocabulary (and its differences to similar words) very understandably; + explained everything in Chinese (at my B1-Level course) which let me immerse myself into the language very well; + are proficient in English so that they can offer English translations, if necessary; - one teacher‘s pronounciation was a little bit unclear and another‘s Chinese characters’ handwriting sometimes a bit difficult to read; + the teachers adjusted the class content to my personal needs (e.g. not only sticking to the book but also taught me other vocabulary when I said that I would like to learn more about a certain other topic); + created an open learning environment that never made me feel bad when I couldn’t pronounce a word correctly or so; + only gave few homework; - once a teacher mixed up the schedule and came half an hour too late, but > + she made up for it by offering another additional class time; + in general, the teachers rather taught a few minutes longer than shorter, so in total I might have had more than one free extra hour of classes. Besides, there are additional reasons, why I recommend LTL in Taipei: + opportunity to book a course for only one week and different amounts of class hours, group and/or single classes makes LTL very flexible; / 6 hours per day is veeery intensive, next time I might switch to four hours per day; + nevertheless, the mix of group classes and private classes was awesome; + very small groups (in my group class was only one other student); - ca. 750€ per week is quite a lot of money (but worth it); + very helpful staff (e.g. Alin, always there for questions); + organised community events (such as a very fun Lasertag evening with teacher Alice and daily lunches with lovely Riona); + workshops about Chinese/Taiwanese culture (e.g. Mahjong with teacher Tammy). Recommended!

LTL Taipei: hěn hǎo!!! (it means very good)

I recently completed a four-week stint at LTL Taipei and wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone considering. I started as a complete beginner and went for the small group sessions (4 hours a day). After these vigorous 80 hours, I am pleased to say that I am no longer a complete beginner, but rather a regular beginner instead! TEACHING: The main purpose of my trip was to learn Mandarin and the teaching I received was fantastic. My teachers were Alice and Reuben, and I can only describe them as angels sent from Mandarin teaching heaven. Both are extremely able educators with friendly, chill personalities which made for really informative and fun lessons! Their flexibility meant that classes were not exclusively confined to the textbook, as we often explored practical, real-world scenarios, sprinkled with their cultural insights. They were also more than happy (on the surface at least) to endure my constant bombardment of slightly inane and off-piste questions (but they may well have been crying of exasperation on the inside). In my pre-course form, I listed my goals as being able to order in a restaurant and singing karaoke (both in Mandarin obviously). As a testament to Alice’s care and going above and beyond for her students, both were achieved! Finally, my group classmates and I gelled together really well (at least I like to think we did). This created a very entertaining and enjoyable learning environment and made my time at LTL truly memorable (in a positive way). LTL SCHOOL: The cherry on top of the excellent teaching was LTL’s exceptionally welcoming and upbeat atmosphere. This was facilitated in particular by Riona and Alin, but was embodied by all the teachers and students. Student lunches organised by Riona ensured my diet went beyond McDonald’s (and other typical fast-food joints) as I was able to experience Taiwanese cuisine like xiao long baos and niu rou mian (I still love you McDonald’s). This also provided opportunities to mingle with students from other classes, building upon the warm, sociable environment. There was a steady stream of optional social events organised by the LTL team to appreciate Taiwanese culture and further bond with your fellow students. Priced events (still very affordable) included shrimp fishing, laser tag, and attending a baseball game at Taipei Dome (go go Rakuten Monkeys!). For the more budget conscious, the school offered a whole host of free events, ranging from my personal favourite, mahjong (not just because I won four games in a row), to paper cutting, board games, making bubble tea (without getting an upset stomach – take that fresh milk!), and bamboo painting (did I mention I won four games of mahjong in a row?). ACCOMMODATION: I opted for the shared apartment with my own bathroom. This was perfect, especially considering that the flat was a leisurely 10-minute walk from the school! CONCLUSION: Yes. Both the quality of teaching and great environment make LTL Taipei a surefire recommend! Thank you to everyone there!

Yes, we also have multiple schools in Mainland China. Cities include Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and more.

Can I meet other people even if I study individually?

Absolutely, we pride ourselves on being a home away from home for you.

We run after school activities which can include visits to historical and touristy places, parks or shopping areas. We can also organise cooking classes, calligraphy classes, traditional clothes fittings, movie nights, etc. These are great places to get to know other LTL students.

When will my Chinese classes be?

Lessons are held during the day from Monday to Friday, with mornings being standard for most students.

In periods of high enrolment, some classes may run later in the day. While time slots are predetermined, we can move you to another class if availability permits.

How long can I learn Chinese at LTL Taipei?

Our courses last anything from 1 to 52 weeks. You choose how long you wish to learn Chinese in Taipei with LTL.

Some people even book another course after their first one is complete so it’s truly flexible.

If you are unsure about the optimum length for your program, we would be happy to hear about your project and assist you in this decision.

Can I study Chinese intensively?

Yes all our courses are intensive, but we also offer a 6-hour per day course.

This is our most intensive option and students who partake in this program often progress faster than many others.
