Great Program and Very Immersive
March 31, 2026by: Charles Keehan - United StatesProgram: Spanish Immersion - Study and Intern
I have definitely had a great time studying with UDC and Linguistic Horizons. The arrangements and trips provided by Nicole are always very fun, safe, and great new experiences to have. My host family is very nice and caring, and I have greatly improved my Spanish speaking, learning, and understanding skills through communicating with them daily. Nicole is very easy to reach and helpful in answering all questions. Would highly recommend!
Muchas gracias, Charles :)

I spent ten weeks in A Coruña in summer of 2019. It was an amazing experience and I felt like I really was able to learn the language and the culture. Highly recommend to anyone looking for something authentic and immersive.
Inspiring, motivating and a must do
December 19, 2024by: Tia Wackerhagen - United StatesProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
I have never been to South America before but knew I wanted to stay for a solid period of time to understand the culture. I am a doctoral student wanting to augment my learning with experiences from other cultures regarding holistic health and indigenous medicine. This program provided me with all I was hoping: a well put together program that consisted of day long learning sessions for the first two weeks, then immersion into an internship tailored to me. Accommodations were amazing, I always felt safe and I was able to plan trips through the program director on the weekends. This program is well worth doing!
Thank you for the review, Tia! It was such a pleasure having you with us in Peru! :)
Living in the Sacred Valley for 4 months changed my life!!
December 10, 2024by: Macey Richardson - United StatesMy best friend and I got the amazing opportunity to intern in Peru for 4 months in 2019 through Linguistic Horizons. The usual internship is 2 weeks studying nutrition and natural medicine. We however, asked if we could study nursing specifically and stay for 16 weeks instead. Nicole worked with us to fully customize our time in the Sacred Valley. When we asked to change locations for more exposure to different kinds of medicine, Nicole was prompt to assist. We were able to work in a local natural medicine clinic, a tourist urgent care clinic, and a physical/speech therapy clinic for children with special needs. She also curated many excursions throughout our stay at our request including- hikes throughout the Sacred Valley and trips to Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, the Manu jungle, and and epic overnight hiking trip through the Andes. To say this internship was life changing would be an understatement. 6 years later i am still telling stories from the 16 weeks we lived in our little back house in Urubamba!!
Thank you so much for the review, Macey! I can't believe it's been 6 years already! I'm so glad you had a good experience with us :) It is true that we often have more participants in our 2 week Nutrition and Natural Medicine program. However, we also have interns of all types join our Internship program! It was so fun to have you two and I loved reading your hilarious blog about the experience.
I left a part of me in Peru ?
December 10, 2024by: Michaella Hajjar - United StatesProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
Upon my arrival to Peru to study nutrition & natural medicine in a summer abroad program, I was already expecting a life changing experience. From Cusco, to Macchu picchu, to urubamba; the largest town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Aside from the beautiful mountainous scenery, ancient history, teachers, guides, and the amazing women I get to participate in this program with, I was deeply touched by the hard working people, innocent children, and abundant packs of stray animals that reside in this village. The simplicity they live by is truly remarkable and serves as a reminder to appreciate even the littlest things we have that make our lives so much more convenient. Although they lack most of the things we couldn’t go a day without, they are so rich in their culture and tradition, and community. Being able to learn the history, and share their culture has been such a priceless experience. I would do this program again and again. The teachers, hosts, guides, and classes were all amazing. I’ve learned to make so many healthy things and eat for health. I’ve learned so many natural remedies, and have continued my holistic journey outside of this experience in my everyday life in the US. Thank you linguistic horizons I hope I have the opportunity to save up and experience another trip of a lifetime like this one was to me!! I am truly blessed and spiritually fulfilled. I left a piece of me in Peru and brought a better, new improved, open minded version of myself back home.
Thank you for your review, Michaella! <3

Most memorable experience ever!
November 14, 2024by: Angellah Mwafongo - MalawiThe best thing you need to know about Linguistic Horizons is the great support system. I often communicated with Nicole from the start of my application, my departure and all the way to the end of my internship, and she was absolutely fantastic. So nice, friendly and helpful and willing to hear you out always! I had some issues with finances and my placement and she sorted it out like nothing. I would recommend this experience not only because of the the prospects of being abroad and immersion, but for the cultural and work life that awaits you. Loved everything about my experience and I'm sure you will too!
Thank you, Angellah! I'm so glad you joined us in London!
Incredible cultural immersion experience!
July 20, 2024by: Joanna Blackman - United StatesIf you want to learn about Peruvian culture and improve your Spanish while working at a local organization that matches your interests, Linguistic Horizons is the program for you. In my interview with Nicole, the program director, she took into account my specific work interests when placing me in my internship. In Peru, I had the freedom to explore Urubamba (a wonderful town where we stayed) in my free time while feeling comfortable with the support of Nicole and other interns. Nicole also helped me schedule additional weekend excursions, giving me even more opportunities to explore the indigenous culture and incredible mountain scenery. I had the opportunity to stay with a host family, who were some of the nicest people I’ve met. I felt very comfortable throughout the entirety of my four weeks in the program and felt very well supported by Nicole, my host family, the other interns, and my co-workers with anything I needed. Some highlights of the program were the flexibility in organizing my internship to fit with my interests, the organization and efficient administration of LH, the lasting bonds I’ve created with all of the people I met, the opportunity to improve my Spanish at home and at work, and the unique immersion I experienced. I highly recommend choosing Linguistic Horizons if you are hoping to immerse yourself in a new culture, connect with locals, feel safe in a new country, speak Spanish, and learn about different lifestyles.
This was the best experience I have ever had!
March 04, 2024by: Cristina Antonijuan - United StatesLinguistics Horizon provided me the most AMAZING experience doing an internship abroad. I worked in a daycare in Peru assisting children in their everyday tasks. From assistance to placement, finding somewhere to live, ensuring I was surrounded by people of my age & demographic I can hands down say I reflect on this experience as the best summer I have ever had. 20/10 would do again!
Perfect Immersion
March 01, 2024by: Daniel Tarrant - ScotlandProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
I found the city of La Coruña to be a charming little city with wonderful people and beautiful scenery. Immersion is simply the best and fastest way to improve in any language. I arrived in Spain with little-to-no Spanish ability, which at times was overwhelming, however with the support of Nicole, her family and my classmates, I found my Spanish improved rapidly. My teacher was excellent, encouraging and approachable. The day trips were my favourite part of my time in La Coruña, having time to explore Spain and spend time with fellow course-mates was extremely fun.

I chose this program due to reading a positive review! So, here is my honest review!! I HIGHLY recommend Linguistic Horizons for your study abroad experience. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and if I could've stayed longer, I would've. Here is why... This summer, I participated in a pre-vet internship with A Chico Centro Quirúrgico, a Veterinary Clinic in La Coruña, organized by Linguistic Horizons. It was an incredible learning experience that allowed me to gain valuable insights into the field of veterinary medicine and improve my Spanish language skills. This was my first time traveling abroad and arriving somewhere not knowing anyone. I made so many new friends, quickly learned how to get around the city, and felt safe the whole time. Nicole is so friendly and sweet and definitely helped the whole experience go smoothly. She has organized an incredible program that even when she had an emergency and had to leave the country, the program continued to flow smoothly! I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in a study abroad opportunity. My host family was so sweet and hospitable. They became my family and support system while abroad and were attentive to anything I needed! I wasn't sure if the Spanish course would be challenging, but it was the first time I'd taken a Spanish course that taught me something new in almost every class. The conversational style of the course was so valuable, that I genuinely looked forward to my Spanish classes as well as our field trips. This was the first time I ever did a presentation in Spanish too, which was really exciting! Nicole arranged all of our excursions and insurance plans, and she was always open to arranging any activity we wanted to do! Our group was small, but I actually enjoyed this aspect of the trip. We got to know each other well, and when we wanted to go out together, it was easier to move around (taxi, restaurants, etc.) as a small group. This internship not only deepened my passion for veterinary medicine but also instilled in me the importance of being able to confidently and accurately practice medicine in Spanish. As I continue to learn more about veterinary medicine, I am committed to also learning it in Spanish, thanks to the invaluable experience provided by Linguistic Horizons. I am unbelievably grateful to Linguistic Horizons for organizing such a wonderful program. I hope to have another similar experience in the future, and I highly recommend Linguistic Horizons to anyone seeking a unique and enriching study abroad opportunity!!!

Best Summer Program!

I had a BLAST in Spain this summer thanks to linguistic horizons! I was placed with a very sweet family in an apartment in the heart of A Coruña, and spent tons of time exploring the city with my friends i made in the program. The Spanish classes were very informative and helped me improve a ton! Though i didn't like my original internship, Nicole was very helpful and found me a different position that i loved very quickly. Thanks again Linguistic Horizons for a great summer!
Hi Evan! Thank you for sharing about your experience with us in La Coruña this summer! It was so nice to have you in the program. We're really glad you had such a positive experience!

Learning Spanish in a Professional Setting
April 23, 2023by: RobertProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
Really great opportunity to learn Spanish in a professional setting. I gave a general idea of what kind of internship I was looking for, and Nicole got back to me with a few ideas. I liked the Emilia Pardo Bazan museum, and I got to intern there for a month. The staff were extremely welcoming and helped me grow as a Spanish learner and an employee. Communication was extremely clear from beginning to end. Along with the internship, there was a Spanish conversation course that was useful to practice Spanish in a less professional and less stressful environment. It was great that both the internship and the course counted for college credit and accredited by the University of A Coruna. The city is wonderful. There is a great beach that is always full of people in the summer. There are great landmarks to visit. The city center is beautiful, and Nicole personally guided us through the city on numerous occasions to see churches and landmarks. Nicole also set up housing for us, and was more than willing to accomodate any issues or concerns. She chose locations that were close to our internships, making it easy to walk over. She also sets up trips to other parts of Spain for weekends, as well as other day trips to places outside of Coruna like Santiago and a beach farther away for surfing. A really wonderful and unique program.
Linguistic Horizons is the best!
April 21, 2023by: EccoI had an amazing experience in A Coruña through Linguistic Horizons. The city is vibrant and truly has it all—delicious food, pristine beaches, fantastic nightlife, and plenty of cultural activities to participate in. Everyone speaks Spanish to you, which can be intimidating but is ultimately beneficial and everyone is very kind and helpful in communicating with you. The University of A Coruña and Linguistic Horizons worked together to create an atmosphere conducive to learning as well as fun social interactions. I made friends with people from all around the world! Nicole is a tireless, wonderful and helpful leader. She is not only fun and funny, but an expert in both Spanish and Coruña’s culture. She is full of advice and helpful tips. The day trips she plans are both affordable and incredible (especially the trip to the Cies Islands—you HAVE to go!) I cannot say enough good things about her! Overall Linguistic Horizons is a stellar program that is successful in incorporating language use, cultural activities and fun! I left the program near fluent in Spanish, and truly became felt I was apart of the community in Coruña. I would recommend it to everyone, and am thinking about going back myself!
Highly recommend
April 21, 2023by: Maddie RichterFinding opportunities in the art & music world can be quite daunting at times, but Nicole made the process so easy! I was presented with several amazing opportunities across Europe, and I ended up working with a London firm that was a perfect match for my skill set. I really felt that Nicole took the time to get to know me and what my future career goals were, she even introduced me to other LH Alums in the music industry or others who were living in London. This experience has opened up many opportunities for me since returning to the US, I highly recommend working with Nicole to find your next adventure abroad!
Life-changing program!
April 20, 2023by: MollyProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
This program has benefitted my outlook on medicine, nutrition, travel, and my environment in too many ways to count. I came to Peru with little knowledge of nutrition and herbalism, and absolutely no ability to speak Spanish. However, I was immediately welcomed and given the resources to take Spanish classes. I felt encouraged to fully immerse myself in the experience, and through many workshops by people who worked with many types of indigenous medicine, herbalism, and nutrition every day, I learned so much about myself, the earth, and a more wholesome and caring culture in addition to the subjects the workshops were officially about. I learned a great deal of Spanish in a short amount of time, leaving with a determination to continue studying the language, apply what I had learned, and live in a more wholesome and open way connected to my surroundings and community. I cannot thank Nichole enough for the careful planning and love that she clearly put into the program and for the warm and open way she welcomed me and the rest of the members of the program. I made connections that truly changed me and met people I will never forget. This is a beautiful, immersive way to learn and to experience Peru, and I would recommend the program to anyone with even the slightest interest in Peru, nutrition, alternative medicines, or the environment.

I am so glad that I did this program! The director worked so hard to make sure that the internship was exactly what I wanted and that everything would be a good fit. They also work very hard to make sure that you get the full immersion experience. You're not just an American student in a crowd of American students, you are really experiencing the lifestyle and culture while you are there. The program also cares a lot about it's students. There was always someone available for me when I was there to help me with whatever I needed, which made the experience a lot more comfortable. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Linguistic Horizons is incredibly well run and I was always impressed with the quality of the services provided. Right from the start, Nicole was an incredible resource and was very timely with all of her responses. She really took the time to understand my goals and what I wanted to receive from my experience and internship abroad. She was very receptive to what I wanted and was very attentive to my needs. She worked very hard to find me an internship that I liked! I participated in the 5 week internship/study abroad program in La Coruña, Spain, and I had an amazing time! Coruña is a great place to have an immersion experience to practice Spanish, and I appreciated that she always encouraged everyone to speak Spanish, even with her! I feel that my Spanish skills improved greatly during my time in Spain. The weekend excursions were fun, and we attended many interesting events during the week. We also had the freedom to do many things on our own. Nicole was always available to help us in any way, and was an excellent problem solver whenever life threw anything at us. When I got sick, she immediately put me in touch with a great hospital and the experience went very smoothly. She cares so much about her students and I always felt very supported by her. Even when I felt like my Spanish was plateauing, she was able to keep me motivated and help me. I highly recommend Linguistic Horizons. Thank you so much Nicole!

I found this program online and I am so glad that I did. My internship was amazing. I gained a lot of great experience in my field of study working for an engineering consulting company. I also took a class at the local university and further improved my spanish and learned about the rich Spanish culture. I absolutely loved living, working and studying in La Coruña. The program is super well organized. I made wonderful friends and connections to last a life time. It was definitely an experience I will never forget and that I would recommend to anyone looking to have an awesome summer experience abroad.
Best program
April 15, 2023by: JulieThis is a great program. My Spanish improved tremendously both from the full immersion and the university classes. The school and the city felt very familiar and it was refreshing to be in a non touristy area. I had traveled to Spain before, and the bigger cities were very hussle and bussle. Coruña had a more laid back atmosphere that made it feel like a second home. Linguistic horizons was very informative about what to expect from the city and how to get around. The ciudad vieja, or old city, part of town was my favorite place since it was close to the beautiful port and had an a type of renaissance charm. I felt very safe walking around town and taking the buses and did not have much trouble with bus schedules. Although I did learn to always be a few minutes early for the bus. Even though the food was different, it was pretty good. As a vegan, I thought it would be difficult to eat out and find options to fit my diet, but I was able to eat almost everywhere. The pimientos de padrón became my favorite dish! Overall this was a great experience and I highly recommend this program.

I had a great time studying and interning abroad with Linguistic Horizons! I spent a little over a month in A Coruña, Spain in the summer of 2018. The town was super walkable and safe, and the weekend trips to Portugal and Barcelona were a lot of fun. : ) Nicole found me an internship that matched what I was looking for and an apartment that was just a short walk away, and she was always ready to help while I was there. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in Spanish!
Worth it and so much more
April 14, 2023by: LilaProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
I was looking for a program that focused on herbalism and a natural, holistic look at life and medicine. I was also hoping to find something that would get me back into a spanish speaking country to practice my fading language skills and support my love of cultural exploration. Nicole's program (and it really is her grown-up brain child) did this for me and provided so much more than I had ever hoped. Nicole is an amazing person and has connected herself to an incredibly welcoming and insightful community. The cost of the program covers delicious cuisine for most of your meals, multiple excursions to incredible sights often featured in National Geographic, and an introduction and entrance into the culture on so many levels. You meet local artist communities, have contact with shamans who live several days worth of hiking up in the mountains, meet Max--our fabulous local tour guide and source of endless stories accessible to people of all spanish speaking levels--explore phenomenal nature and learn the secret local knowledge of how to barter at the markets and who sells the best fruit. Oh my Goodness the fruit. It's worth it if all you do is eat the fruit, but you do so much more as well. We hiked the mountains that create a backdrop to Urubamba and collected native medicinal plants for a local healer. We gave ceremonial thanks to Pacha Mama in return for letting us collect what we needed from her mountain and used what we gathered to heal people. I summated Machu Pichu and Huayna Pichu in the glorious jungle rain and sat in meditation in the temple of the moon half way down the back side of the mountain. We went to the Salt flats at Maras and spent days just sitting around loving life. We met with Vedic healers who taught us nutritional information and made the best snacks. Make the decision to go on the trip for yourself, because you will grow so much and learn about yourself and the world in ways you are not expecting.
The perfect internship
April 14, 2023by: Kelly SnodgrassNicole and her team are wonderful. They quickly found the perfect internship for me after I spent months on my own struggling to get any response from companies abroad. I don't know if I would've gotten an internship in time if I hadn't contacted them.
Unforgettable
April 13, 2023by: SaskiaI loved my time with Linguistic Horizons. Nicole Berry was a wonderful host, looking after all our needs. I split my time filmmaking with Carlos Garavito and the Kai Residence - just a few villages away - on weekdays, and then exploring the sacred valley on weekends. Nicole was amazing at organising our trips - we saw salt mines (Salineras de Maras), did various hikes to visit the remnants of ancient Inca citadels, stayed in Cuzco and had an incredible day trip to Machu Picchu. Staying in Urubamba town is also a wonderful way to fully immerse yourself in Peruvian culture. There’s lots to see, delicious food and you can get a colectivo bus to visit nearby villages as well. I was very lucky to be able to film with Carlos Garavito at the Kai Residency too. He was adventurous and supportive and had great access to the vibrant local community. We ended up making film about the Festival de la del Carmen in Arin, something that’s never been filmed before! We spent time filming the dances, following the processions and then celebrating at the households of the locals. The hospitality was astounding - I’ve never been offered so much food and Chicha! Peru is a beautiful country, with breathtaking views and a rich cultural history. Its myths and legends, so tied to its magnificent landscape, are seductive. I really fell in love with it. Couldn’t recommend Linguistic Horizons more. It gave me exactly what I needed when I went.
Do it!!
April 11, 2023by: ChristinaProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
Definitely go abroad with Linguistic Horizons! I had a great time, made lifelong friends, and improved my Spanish a lot. The program costs a lot less than others that are offered through my University, and in my opinion, is a lot better than the others. A Coruña is a safe, easily-walkable city. There is an old town, lots of great restaurants, and beaches right next to the classrooms. Plan on being a lot more tired than you are in your country. Constantly thinking and talking in your second language is exhausting! When there were opportunities to go places on the weekends, I almost didn't want to because I was so tired all the time! Nicole organized some unforgettable weekend trips, though, (Portugal, Spanish wine country, etc.), so don't even think about missing out on those. In this program, you get the chance to take Spanish classes from Spaniards, visit museums, and make Spanish friends. It teaches you a lot about the culture that you couldn't get from any textbook. Nicole responds to emails pretty much immediately. She keeps her business small on purpose so that she can pay full attention to each student and make sure they're getting what they need out of the program. She's fun to be around and you get close with her quickly. She's definitely 10/10, but I rated the staff section a little lower because she left halfway through my program. I knew that I had people to contact if I needed them, but I found myself feeling a little lonely for a few weeks before I made friends at my internship. There are so many stories and memories that I could share about the program, but instead, I'll just tell you to DO IT! Sometimes it will be hard (like any long-term abroad experience), but it'll be totally worth it.
Life in the city of LOVE and LIGHT
April 07, 2023by: KiranLinguistic Horizons have done a good job in setting me up with an internship that matches my academic background. This is the first time I have travelled alone and lived in a foreign country. Right from the start I felt welcomed into my architecture internship experience. The first day I jumped right into hands-on tasks and learning the ins and out about French Architecture. I have learned a ton of skills that I'm now taking with me to look for a career.
One of the best experiences of my life!
April 07, 2023by: HansProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
I came across a Linguistic Horizons ad in a Political Science class at Santa Monica College and I'll never regret my decision. It has been one of the best experiences of my life! Living only a few blocks away from the beach and across the street from my internship with VALORA Consultores, I couldn’t have had a better location. It was four-bedroom apartment where I had my own room and lived with three other guys that I now consider my lifelong friends. A Coruña is an amazing city with amazing seafood and great people. I’ve never seen elderly people out having fun at one in the morning until my trip to Coruña. Every weekend was a new adventure, whether it was wine country in Ribeira Sacra, San Fermin in Pamplona, visiting the beautiful city of Oporto in Portugal or learning about the history of Santiago de Compostela. Nicole, the program director, made sure there was something to see or do at all time. She made herself available at all times and never did I feel lost in a foreign country. I highly recommend anyone that has the opportunity to study abroad whether it’s to improve your Spanish or gain new skills interning, this will be an unforgettable experience! Nicole has put together a great program, the only regret I have is not staying for the full ten-week program.
Awesome program
April 04, 2023by: DavidNicole helped me find an internship in my desired field, in my desired city, during my desired timelines. The company I was paired with gave me lots of flexibility over my archduke to arrange travel on long weekends. They also helped me grow and develop new skill sets. I would not have been able to find this internship myself, trust me I tried! Go see the world!

Perú 2018
April 02, 2023by: BalvinaThe UCCS Hispanic Honor Society Omega Tau Sigma Del Pi organized a trip to Perú and interviewed several abroad options. However, Linguistic Horizons proved to be the best option. The trip met our goal to give back to the locals by engaging in various efforts to support organic farming, donating several hundred pounds of clothing to locals, all while experiencing the beauty of Urubamba, Cuzco, and Machu Picchu. Linguistic Horizons met all expectations, handled all logistics, ensured safety, room, transportation, great healthy food, interaction with the locals, learning at a profound and meaningful manner the essence of Machu Picchu as no literature could ever detail. The entire experience was unforgettable and enriching. Thank you Linguistic Horizons your commitment to students!

This is a once in a life-time kind of program. The internship placements felt very personal and cultivated toward my professional goals. Nicole is always extremely friendly, conscientious, and quick to respond to emails/concerns/questions. I stayed in Spain and I can say that my Spanish vastly improved, especially because of the emphasis Nicole put on speaking Spanish the whole time. As awesome as the internship placement was, I also felt like there were lots of opportunities for weekend trips and to make friends with locals. I’d highly recommend it for people interested in cultural immersion.

The Nutrition and Natural Medicine in Peru is an experience of a lifetime!!! The journey throughout Cuzco, Valle Sagrado, Urubamba, Pisa and many other small towns were full of culture, history, excellent food, comfort, safety and camaraderie. I was blessed to be part of a jovial and wonderful group of students from all around the globe. They were all amazing students. Nicole did a superb job selecting all the lectures, cooking classes, herbals harvesting, Indigenous traditional ceremonies, all wonderfully organized. I absolutely loved my adventure with Nicole, her team and other participants in the Peru Program. Linguistic Horizons’ Program in Peru and its founder Nicole Berry was everything and more than I expected, and I’ll always be grateful for all the beautiful memories we shared together. Gisela Urieta

This study abroad program was a life changing experience! It was very safe, the people involved were very friendly, and the region was extraordinary! My only complaint is I felt like the natural medicine portion was very vague. I don't think I learned much about medicine while there, to tell the truth. I did however glean much on the way of life, the culture, the people, and their approaches to health. All in all it was extraordinary and I'd highly recommend!
An internship that propels your career!
October 07, 2022by: Stephanie Tuttle - United StatesI started planning my internship experience abroad by learning about the many internship opportunities available in places all around the world. It wasn't long before finding Linguistic Horizons online. Nicole, the proprietor, responded to my message right away, so we had a chance to talk about the schedule, the budget, and the exciting adventures to partake in throughout the experience. She made everything very clear to me and tailored my internship experience to my goals and aspirations for the future. Throughout our trip, she remained upbeat and communicative. Our lodgings were convenient, secure, and easy to find. She also arranged a group excursion so we could all be together and hear about other religions and customs from our tour leaders. We went all across the countryside to see historic sites and sample the local cuisine. The experience broadened my horizons and helped me attain valuable insight into my own way of living. This organization and its fantastic employees come with my highest recommendation.

Best summer in Spain
September 13, 2022by: Cynthia Adkisson - United StatesProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
This program was really integral for me getting to where I am today. Learning Spanish has helped me so many times since then and I have found myself being the only one who speaks it in a group of people when it is necessary to use to communicate with someone else. The immersive experience really not only forces you to learn Spanish but makes it natural, you learn Spanish anytime you go anywhere and have to communicate with the people there! The internship let me get experience in a field I was unable to get back in the US, when I really needed it to apply to grad school. While doing any medical internship can be difficult because you have to learn an entire extra vocabulary set, I was still able to understand a lot of what was going on and get experience doing basic things around the clinic. I am so grateful for this experience!
Interning with Yanapasun in Peru
September 12, 2022by: Alysia Hoe - United KingdomThis summer I spent a month in Urubamba in the Sacred Valley interning at Yanapasun, a centre which specialises in physical and mental therapies for children with special needs. I had the opportunity to work with a small group of children: playing games, learning basic readings skills, physical exercises and more. The team were very kind and helped me to gain confidence in speaking better Spanish. I also learnt a lot about the culture of the people in the Cuzco region of Peru. On arrival I definitely experienced a culture shock, but Anahí, the Peru co-ordinator, was there to help us through that and to understand better how things worked in the country. There were some communication difficulties and this was something we had to adapt to during our time there. We went on many day trips to see different things around the Sacred Valley such as Machu Picchu, the Maras salt mines, the Pisac ruins and two days in Cuzco which were very fun and interesting. I learnt a lot about the Inca heritage in Peru and the traditional Andean culture. I would recommend this intern program to anyone who wants to improve there Spanish and gain work experience whilst also being immersed into a different culture. It is not an easy process but is so rewarding and you will have lots of stories to tell afterwards!

Interning in the hollistic medicine clinic in Urubamba
September 11, 2022by: Luke Sampiere - United StatesMy time with linguistic horizon was fun, the clinic we worked in was very interesting and the family that ran it was very friendly, my only complaint was there wasn't much of an explanation of what the plants did in terms of how exactly they helped with different ailments. All in all it was a fun experience to live abroad, meet amazing people, and Nicole was very organized and did a good job organizing activities, but I maybe didn't learn as much about medicine as I would have liked.
The best study abroad experience
September 11, 2022by: Bilyne Geffrard - United StatesProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
If you are considering to study abroad, I strongly recommend Linguistic Horizons. Nicole, the program director, is very well organized, always available and willing to help the students. The program is well structured with a syllabus suitable to the course. There are a lot of weekend excursions which make the time abroad extremely fun. La Coruña is a safe and beautiful coastal city to learn Spanish, practice with native speakers, enjoy the culture and food while enjoying life abroad. That was my first time in Spain and quite frankly I didn’t regret a second of it.

Interning in Peru
September 10, 2022by: Allison Wheeler - United StatesI spent a summer interning in Urubamba, Peru. I worked at a museum in Calca translating documents and leading tours. I definitely improved my own language skills as a result. My host family was super sweet. My favorite part was the hikes that Linguistic Horizons planned!
Hi Alli, Thank you for your review! I'm happy you were able to improve your Spanish during your experience with us in Peru! I'm also glad you enjoyed your host family and the hikes.
A unique cultural experience
August 29, 2022by: Jessica S - United StatesProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
The Scared Valley itself is beautiful!!! Living remotely in Urubamba helped adjust the body with the altitude sickness and at night it was great to just disconnect from the day's pre-arranged activities to stargaze. Tania, our hostess, runs a very modern casita in the provincia. I've personally visited and stayed in other Peruvian provincias (i.e. Tarma) and her place is a game changer especially the healthy meals and HOT water. However, due to COVID the program had a lot of modifications and speaking Spanish was imperative to keep up. Unfortunately our guide was sick and we did not have a backup. I strongly recommend that the program have a backup local/translator in case of these situations. The Director was able to log on remotely to help translate the Andean medicine workshop and provide supplemental online resources to reinforce what we learned. Overall, it is a good program for cultural immersion to Andean medicine and nutrition. I learned unconventional holistic and spiritual practices. Personally, I would have preferred all the workshops be in person, but I understand that COVID was a factor. I also enjoyed all the sightseeing, hiking and shopping in the markets.
Hi Jessica! Thank you for sharing your experience. I agree that staying in the valley is a great way to help the body adjust to the high altitude. It's definitely easier to adjust to the altitude in the sacred valley as opposed to the city of Cusco for example. I'm glad you were happy with the accommodation, meals, Tania, the cultural immersion, and the program excursions in general. Like you said, we were lucky to have some of the modern comforts at the accommodation that we are so used to having in the US, and often take for granted...things as simple as hot running water! The calm and rural ambiance also really helps with relaxation :) As far as the workshops being held online, the only one that is held online is the Aromatherapy & Introduction to Essential Oils workshop. We hold that one online because the people who run it moved from Peru to Colombia after COVID. However, the information they share is valuable and well put together so we still include it as an online PowerPoint presentation by video call rather than just removing it from the program. All the other experiences are in person and I agree that it's very important to hold them in person rather than online. We are not into going digital as we fully believe in true immersion and giving students an in person experience. As far as the local coordinator (also our interpreter) getting sick, yes that was unexpected and did result in her being unavailable a couple of times and therefore unable to translate 100% as planned. We were lucky to have some students, like you, in the group to help with translations when she was ill. I did join to translate remotely which was the best solutions we could offer. Unfortunately, it's not easy to find last minute people in rural Peru who both available and capable of offering live interpretations for multiple hours. so we did have a few times when material that normally would be 100% interpreted (Spanish to English) was not. We apologize for that. Normally, we have students with and without Spanish skills who are able to follow the material fully. Of course having Spanish is very helpful when going abroad to a Spanish speaking country; but, it's not a requirement for our program. A lot of the learning is also done through hands on and experiential learning. I'm glad your Spanish skills were there to help you follow everything when our local coordinator couldn't be there and we thank you for assisting with interpretations for the others in the group. The online materials are meant to help supplement the program and offer reading materials to review when you're back home. We will work on having reinforcements for interpretations for the next Nutrition and Natural Medicine programs so that we don't have the same problem in the future. Thank you for your feedback. We always strive to improve and your input has been very helpful for that!
I had a unique an amazing internship opportunity!
March 03, 2020by: Brenda Quintanilla - United StatesProgram: Spanish Immersion - Study and Intern
I couldn't have asked for a more unexpectantly unique opportunity. Nicole and Soraida from Linguistic Horizons were able to find me an internship in psychology that would be very difficult to obtain on my own. Internships in healthcare are very complicated to obtain, as most are only open to students who already have more than a bachelor's degree. Nicole and Soraida arranged for me an internship within a physiotherapy clinic where they allowed me to construct my own psychology interventions under the supervision of the physiotherapists and occupational therapists from the clinic. Though difficult at first, I learned so much and it helped me gain more trust in my knowledge. In addition, this internship helped me decide to pursue a master's in psychology, something I was still not sure whether I wanted to do. Linguistic Horizons also helped me find a very comfortable and accessible place to live and arranged literally everything for me so that my move abroad was as smooth as possible. I had an amazing and super unique experience, and it was all thanks to the incredible help and support from the staff of Linguistic Horizons. My internship placement was in A Coruña, Spain which was also a very unique place to be and best of all, it was not a typical touristic place, so it is a full Spanish language and culture immersion. The city is cozy and has beautiful landscapes with amazing views to the Atlantic Ocean.
Thank you for the review of our Semester in Spain program, Brenda! It was an absolute pleasure having you with us during the Fall 2020 semester :)
Definitely would return

I loved Linguistic Horizons. They provided me with so many opportunities, and I made so many good friends while there. Nicole Berry helped the other students and me with transitioning and feeling comfortable with living in Spain.
Thank you so much for your review, Cecilia! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and would want to return :)
Worth it
December 08, 2019by: Kelly Snodgrass - United StatesI started out determined to get a business internship in the fashion industry in France (but not Paris) through my own efforts. Unfortunately, I started searching a little too late and I was overwhelmed with my work, school & family commitments to be successful. Luckily, my advisors recommended Linguistic Horizons to me. They were the only company willing to find an internship for me that fit my criteria (instead of a cookie cutter position). Plus, they were able to do it on a shorter than normal time-line (2hich saved me and let me graduate on time). It turned out that the company and city that they placed me in was better than I could've ever planned and was exactly what I needed. The company was small and my supervisor understood my goals so they actually ended up teaching me everything about their business. I wasn't just a grunt, and I made professional and personal relationships that will last a lifetime.
Thank you for your review, Kelly. I'm so glad you had such a good experience! I'm also happy to hear that you found the internship to be valuable and relevant.
An authentic study abroad experience in Galicia
November 26, 2019by: Madison White - United StatesProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
A Coruña was fantastic and is the perfect place to study abroad. Because it isn’t a study abroad hotspot you actually get an immersive Spanish experience and the majority of people you meet will either be locals or European students there for the Erasmus program. Nicole was great and very on top of things, just keep in mind that the sense of urgency might not be quite the same in Spain. Food and culture were both 10/10 and I would 100% go again.
Hola Madison! Thank you for leaving a review about your experience with us in Spain :) It was great to have you here. I'm glad you had a good experience!

Amazing summer
November 26, 2019by: Katherine Merola - United StatesLinguistic Horizons provided me the best customization options going into an international internship. Nicole worked with me to ensure I found the perfect internship with me and did her best to find multiple companies for me to choose from. Not only did she pair me with a company, but she also created a means of contact with other students from America doing a European internship. Through this I found a new friend who was also interning in Berlin. The company I worked for gave me a great experience and really helped me learn a lot. During my time abroad, Nicole also ensured that all the European interns knew about any potential protests and areas we should avoid due to potential dangers. She also personally checked in to make sure we were doing alright and having a good time at our internships.
Hi Katherine, Thank you for your review! I'm so glad you had a good experience in Germany. :)
Truly a life changer!
November 26, 2019by: Cathyrn Herman - United StatesBeing able to spend the time that I did in the Sacred Valley of Peru was life changing. The people, the culture, the experience. Everything was just incredible! It is so hard to put this experience into words. Being able to experience Peruvian life is something I will always carry with me as the biggest learning experience of my life. It opened my eyes to so many new things, ideas, and ways of life. It is difficult to explain and it is something that just needs to be experienced!
Thank you for your review, Nikki. I'm glad you considered the experience to be life changing :) I'm sure we will see you again someday in Peru!
Greatest experience
September 16, 2019by: Nathalie Sanchez - United StatesProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
No matter where you would like to intern at or visit, contact Nicole! What I loved most about my experience overseas was the internship opportunity Nicole was able to find and organize for me. I wanted a place that was rich in culture, participate and immerse myself with the locals, try new foods, improve my Spanish, and gain experience in a work environment that catered to my education. La Coruña was all that and much more! The places we visited were so gorgeous, the other people in my group were just as involved, class was very helpful since we were fortunate enough to have such a small class size, it all worked out so wonderfully. Not to mention, interning with Linguistic Horizons is very affordable! As compared to other programs I was looking into at the time, Linguistic Horizons not only offered a lot more, but also gave individual attention to everyone! The whole schooling and interning were so very well organized that it leaves you feeling very safe and comfortable with being so far away from home. Thank you, Nicole, for the experience!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Nathalie! I'm so glad you had such a positive experience.
Cultural welcome in undiscovered Spanish gem
September 02, 2019by: Anna Potter - United StatesProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
Overall, I had an amazing experience. A Coruna is extremely safe. Walking around on a weekend evening from 2-4am in the summer, I rarely felt unsafe and often saw families or young children out on the streets. The city is also extremely walkable, so it is easy to get anywhere in 10-30 minutes. Living with a host family was amazing- coordinated by Nicole to meet our personal requests, I lived with two young professionals in a very clean 3-bedroom apartment. I had my own room and access to a very clean bathroom, kitchen, and city center. In addition, the building I lived in was extremely welcoming and socially and educationally engaged with me to show me the city and improve my conversation skills. I am extremely thankful to all of the people in my building. Nicole was always available; for advice, practical assistance, or company. However, she somehow always knew when to push you beyond your boundaries or check in with you at the exact right times. She is a wise woman with many worldly connections that has immeasurable worth. Studying at Universidad da Coruna was a complex yet extremely rewarding Spanish-language learning experience. Not only were the University resources sufficient, but the teachers were extremely kind, generous with their time, and knowledgeable. Class sizes were extremely small and limited to the students in the study abroad program, so a lot of conversation and one-on-one learning made for a perfect environment to gain comfort ability speaking.
Thank you for the review, Anna! It was a pleasure having you in Spain with us!
Exceeded my expectation
June 24, 2019by: Laura Anglada - SpainProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
Nicole was super attentive and answered all my questions in detail as well as providing me with extra information that, although I did not ask for, was super helpful. She really cares for you and you feel it. The whole process of application to the program and follow-up before the trip was super professional and it left me very calm since I knew at all times what was happening and what I would need before traveling. Once in Peru, everything was very easy. I did not have to worry about anything. I could focus on enjoying the experience and learning from the wonderful people I met. The quality of the workshops was beyond I expected and I'm really grateful for that. I really recommend the program to anyone interested in holistic medicine and natural nutrition. Thank you SO MUCH from the bottom of my heart for everything!! I'm definitely coming back to Urubamba to visit :)
Thank you for the review, Laura! I'm glad you had a great overall experience :)

I will never forget this experience or the people who made it happen
May 08, 2019by: Shauna Bell - United StatesNicole took her time every step of the way when accepting me into this program. She made sure It was right for me and I was right for the program. The candidate profile she made was exactly what I was looking for and I knew this was the program I want to be a part of. I looked for months at other intern abroad programs and couldn't find a single one that I respected and trusted like Linguistic Horizons. In Peru, she greeted me and made me feel like family. She took me to the first day of my internship and made sure I knew where to go and that I felt safe. Peru has forever changed my life and I know my experience wouldn't be the same without Linguistic Horizons, Nicole, Erika, and all the other wonderful interns I met and became family with along the way. I am still amazed at the fact she individually picks out each internship for the candidates. Overall, I had the most amazing experience and feel so blessed to have found this program.
Hi Shauna! Thank you for the review <3 We absolutely loved having you with us in the Sacred Valley! I'm so happy to hear that you had such a positive experience :)
Sacred valley with Linguistic Horizons
February 12, 2019by: Juan Gabriel Medrano - United StatesHi, I'm grateful to have found Linguistic Horizons and to have been able to participate in such a wonderfully coordinated and beneficial internship. One can come to the sacred valley for a variety of reasons, but this was certainly the right reason for me. I came to study and practice with traditional Andean plants and work with their application in the clinical setting. Through Linguistic Horizons and it's great leadership of Nicole Berry and Erika Quintanna, I was able to not only gain the clinical aspect of what I was hoping to gain but I was also able to enjoy more than I could have ever imagined of the Sacred Valley and it's fascinating landmarks, history. The experience was greatly fulfilling and enriching. The clinic was a family run clinic and you hit the ground running. The staff is wonderfully knowledgeable and experienced and if you are willing to help, engage it will be a good fit for you. Speaking, understanding Spanish is a plus but you will be able to make by with understanding just medical/hospital spanish terminology. I was able first hand help assist in the most traumatic of cases to patients presenting for frequent treatments for a variety of conditions ranging from scoliosis, dysplasia, bone fractures, skin conditions, arthritis, etc. Seeing and understanding their use of Andean plants in their treatments was incredible, and seeing the patients response, recovery was even more impressive. My goal was to gain a better understanding of traditional practices here in the sacred valley and take that knowledge home with me. I believe I have accomplished just that. I was able to build a strong relationship with the clinic and I know I will be back and will continue to develop professional exchange. Their incredible humanitarian services and help to the community was notable on every interaction. They fed me like family and helped fulfill a long term goal of mine. This program was wonderful and Nicole is a great leader. They are very thoughtful, the accommodations were nice and the food provided was delicious. She and Erika are very responsive and helpful. I hope you decide to experience Urubamba and the sacred valley with Linguistic Horizons.
Thank you for the review :) I'm so glad you had such a positive experience. It was a pleasure having you in Peru! :)
Mythical
January 24, 2019by: Sincere Perez - United StatesLinguistics Horizon gave me an inexplicably mythical experience. Anyone looking for abroad experience needs to go with this program. It’s affordable, it’s fun, and it’s in Peru. Not to mention Nicole Berry is a beautiful person. She goes out of her way just make sure you have the best experience imaginable.
Thank you for the review, Sincere! We loved having you in Peru; and, the kids you taught will remember and cherish the experience forever!
Will never forget this experience
December 11, 2018by: Sarah Zerbel - United StatesVolunteering abroad in Perú is something I will never forget. Everyday we volunteered for an organization that supports organic farmers in the Sacred Valley. Each afternoon we visited a different site of Incan ruins. We ended the week with a trip to Machu Picchu and a Mother Earth ceremony. Every part of this trip was so genuine and amazing.
Hi Sarah! Thank you so much for your comment. It was an absolute pleasure having you with us in Peru! <3
Educational experience, full of growth!
April 07, 2018by: Jacki - United StatesProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
Peru is one of the most beautiful places I have been to, and being able to return to such a beautiful, culturally and nutritionally rich place, was already a treat! But the real treat, was how beautifully Nicole set up this program! From the living situation, to the beautiful people, to the fun weekend adventures, to the exploring and the nutrition education! Incredible experience!

Study abroad
February 27, 2018by: Sarah Williams - United StatesProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
I am so glad that I chose this program to do my internship, because the program is unlike any other that I have found. It is so customized to what you want to do and what you're looking for. The director works very hard to make sure that your internship is a good fit. It is also much more personal than other programs. You're not just another student in a crowd of students studying abroad. Studying abroad can be a scary experience and there is always someone there to help you, whether it be figuring out the local bus system or figuring out where to go for dinner. I would participate in this program again in a heart beat!
Hi Sarah! Thank you so much for your review. We enjoyed having you with us in Spain!

Push your boundaries!
February 09, 2018by: Alex Antoshak - United StatesIf you are working towards enriching your education background while being immersed in a foreign environment, Linguistic Horizons very much rewards that. During my 3-week internship in Peru, I gathered life-long experiences that I would not achieve elsewhere. Nicole, the program leader, was extremely hospitable and very professional. She pushed me to go far beyond my comfort zone, which paved the way for a fantastic journey. I personally got to know the local population, while trying new foods and exploring areas off the beaten path. Furthermore, I also learned quite a bit on subjects unrelated to my internship which will be helpful in my journey ahead. The program and experience was indeed a trip of a lifetime, and it will forever change me as a person. The hardest part was leaving this incredible place, as three weeks was just not enough time!
Hi Alex! Thank you very much for the kind words. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your experience in Peru!

Natural medicine and nutrition
January 10, 2018by: Claudia - United StatesProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
Studying natural medicine and nutrition in Peru gave me a new outlook on Nutrition from studying it in the States. I enjoyed learning about superfoods and how they can help prevent and cure different health problems. Also, learning about natural cleanses and detoxes was interesting because most of them are very simple and can be done at home. I highly recommend this trip to anyone.
Hi Claudia! Thanks so much for leaving a review! I'm glad you had a good time. Please come back to visit in the future :)
A memorable experience you will never forget
December 08, 2017by: Candace Samuels - United StatesProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is absolutely breathtaking. The nutrition and natural medicine program exceeded my expectations and I am truly grateful to have been a part of it. Nicole was a thoughtful, intelligent and helpful director. She created a program that expanded on my knowledge about nutrition and opened my eyes to natural medicine. My time there I learned about bodywork, the benefits of aromatherapy, Peruvian superfoods, herbal medicine, traditional Peruvian customs and so much more. This program is unique compared to nutrition programs I have looked at. The reason for this trip was for educational purposes, but the outside excursions (an overnight hike, visit to Machu Pachu, and the tour of Cusco) helped develop my love for the country. Overall, the program gives you a natural and holistic view of health. If you have a passion for both these things, I strongly recommend involving yourself in this program. It will be a memorable experience you will never forget.
Hi Candace! Thank you so much for leaving a review of your experience with us in Peru. We very much enjoyed having you. Please come back to visit us soon!
Amazing opportunity to learn about nutrition and natural medicine in the Sacred Valley of Peru!
November 15, 2017by: Claire Sorrels - United StatesProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
My experience learning about nutrition and natural medicine in Peru was truly amazing. Through this program I had the opportunity to learn about aspects of natural medicine and holistic nutrition which I have never had the opportunity to learn in school. It was so awesome to get to experience the health culture of this country and learn about all of the amazing Peruvian super foods and herbs used! I have already benefited so much from the information I learned about essential oils, body work, natural and herbal medicine, tradition Peruvian cooking and super foods, and overall holistic health - and it has sparked a desire within me to continue to learn more about these topics! I also loved all of the opportunities we had to hike and enjoy the outdoors - which were many! Every day was filled with fun workshops, delicious food, and outdoor adventures :) Peru is such a beautiful and health conscious place, and I hope to go back again! I could not recommend this program enough!
Hi Claire,
Thank you for your review! It was great getting to know you and having you as part of the program!
A life changing experience!
November 03, 2017by: Maile - United StatesTo begin, the founder and director of the program, Nicole Berry is absolutely excellent! She is always available to contact through email or phone about any questions or concerns you might have, as well as providing a pre- departure orientation so that you are able to speak to others attending the program, and to prepare you for what can be expected as far as what to bring, what you can expect, as well what is expected of you. As for the program, my focus is in education so I was placed with an organization called Semillas de Jesus. This organization served as a dormitory for indigenous children who were living outside of the main town of Urubama but studied there during the week. The kids would arrive on Monday mornings, live in the dormitories during the week to attend school, then return to their respective outlying towns on Fridays. This was an amazing placement and experience for me because not only did I get to interact with the kids in both Spanish and English, I was able to do community visits with the organizers of the organization to visit the homes and families of the children I was teaching. I was able to create close relationships with the children and it was extremely difficult to leave. It was not only an educational experience but an opportunity for personal growth as well. It was an amazing experience and I am very thankful that I was chosen to participate.
Maile, thank you so much for your review. I'm glad you had such a positive experience interning in Peru! It was a pleasure having you and I hope this experience will help you grow your career!
Abroad in Urubamba
August 13, 2017by: James - United StatesNicole Berry is an amazing leader of this program. She cares very deeply about the safety and welfare of all the participants. All the hikes to ruins and surrounding areas were experiences to cherish for a lifetime. There was pressure from Nicole and her local coordinator, Max, to practice speaking Spanish. However, towards the last few weeks, we spoke little to no Spanish at the house.
Thank you for your comment, James! We loved having you here.
As for the lack of Spanish in the last couple of weeks at home, this was mainly because we were running our Nutrition
A summer in Spain
August 09, 2017by: Bret - United StatesProgram: Customized Internships & Spanish Immersion at the Beach
I knew I wanted to do some sort of trip abroad the summer of 2017 and I heard from a friend that I should check out Linguistic Horizons. I did and am so glad that decided to chose the program! I was not only working at an internship at an environmental consulting company specialized in water tests as a chemist, but also I was taking Spanish classes at the same time. This both of these helped improve my work in my field and my knowledge of the language exponentially. I have never been in any program in my life so well put together, it was organized better than anything I could have imagined, and the program leader Nicole answers questions faster than ever and more helpful than I can. This is a trustworthy and honest program that is truly meant to better your language skills as well as your skills in your field of choice.
Thank you for your review, Bret! We loved having you in Spain :)
True cultural immersion
April 07, 2017by: Karina - SpainI'd like to start this off by saying I have had a lot of friends travel to Perú on their own and that is what sparked my interest initially. Most of them stayed in larger cities such as Cuzco and Lima in hostels or hotels and it was simply not the full experience. If you come visit on your own it is almost as if you are getting the "diet" version of this country. There difference between our experiences is just huge! I can honestly say that my experience was very genuine and authentic as it possibly could be for someone that speaks intermediate Spanish. Nicole and her counterpart, Max, know the quiet town very well and Max runs his travel business locally. They know where all of the best markets are, safest places to eat, and truly allow you to get to know your way around. If there is something you are interested in that is not on the itinerary for your trip, Nicole will go above and beyond to squeeze it in. My favorite part of this internship was not only the people that I met through Nicole and Max's contacts, but the flexibility that they offered me. They will tailor the experience to your interest and benefit, and that made the trip valuable to me. I came to Urubamba to learn more about natural medicine and I do not have a background in Bio or Nutrition. It sparked a new passion for me in leading a more natural life and appreciating the Earth. Nothing short of life changing. There are many travel and internship companies for students like us to choose from but Linguistic Horizons blows all others out of the water, including the programs offered through my school. If you're a student on a budget I would highly recommend this program and I would do it over again myself in a heartbeat. Thank you Linguistic Horizons!
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Karina! I'm so happy to read your kind words :) Please come visit us again soon!
Linguistic Horizons really changed my life
March 14, 2017by: Shalaya - United StatesProviding hands on healthcare in Peru was the most amazing experience I have ever had. This gave me the opportunity to explore the heath care field and be of service to the community. A valuable lesson I gained from working in Peru was to learn how the community came together to work in health care. The dynamics, the language, the culture all contributed to the diversity of the community and allowed me to gain perspective in my life. I really enjoyed working with the physician and nurses. Engaging in conversations with patients, who were all so excited that I had ventured over from the USA. I was certainly able to improve my Spanish speaking skills, learn new skills, and work with people from different communities. I was able to learn about and get close to the people and community I was working in. Leaving the clinic was really difficult, as I'd grown so close with the physician and family. Now I feel I have an extension of my family in Urubamba, Peru.
Thank you for the feedback, Shalaya! Everyone at the clinic, Max and I miss you! Come visit again soon :)

The most unique experience you can find in a study abroad program
February 19, 2017by: Taylor - United StatesProgram: Nutrition & Natural Medicine in Peru
My experience with this program truly exceeded my expectations. Nicole, the program director, was so beyond helpful from before the program even started until the very end. I was only there for 3 weeks and I learned so much useful information about plant-based medicine, Peruvian culture, and nutrition. Before going it was not my main goal to improve my Spanish, but after being immersed in the language I left Peru being more motivated than ever to eventually be fluent in Spanish. The opportunities that were presented to the students in the program are not things that you can find anywhere else, it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. The people that I have met through this program are some of the most amazing people I know and meeting them has truly changed my life for the better, if I could do it all over again I would not change a thing.
Thank you for your review, Taylor! I'm so glad you enjoyed the program and your time in Peru. <3

January 22, 2017by: William cen Lam - United StatesI was interning with a travel agency in Peru. My work experience was helpful and impactful to me. My boss taught so The experience was amazing and fruitful. I have learned so much about Peruvian culture and the language.
My experience as a nursing student working in Peru
December 09, 2016by: Marshall VanCamp - United StatesThe experience was one of a kind. With my background being in modern medicine I was negligent in realizing the effectiveness and possibilities of Alternative medicines. After just a few short weeks in Peru I begun to realize how valuable the use of plant-based medicine really was and how much one can do with the native plants of the Andean mountains. The opportunity to learn about this way of treating and curing people can really change the way you will begin to think about your own health. That is what has stayed with me long after I returned home. I truly enjoyed the lifestyle I had been able to be a part of and the welcoming people of Urubamba and all its' culture has to offer. Bonus: My most favorite part about where I had stayed particularly was the mountain almost literally in our backyard. Whether you're looking at it from the town or you just spent the early morning hiking to the top, it is truly a gorgeuos site.)
A Summer internship in Berlin
October 19, 2016by: Stephanie Dunbar - United StatesAfter a few phone interviews, Nicole presented me with three internship offers in industries that I told her I was passionate about. Nicole landed me the BEST internship, working for a yoga, health and wellness center in Berlin! I met so many incredible people who honestly, changed my life. Nicole and her team were always very responsive (even with the time difference) and made sure I had everything I needed, including health insurance, before I went abroad. I would highly recommend her services to any student who's feeling overwhelmed with finding that perfect internship. she's the best!
Thanks for the great review, Stephanie! I'm happy to hear you had such a positive experience :)

Internship and Summer Courses
October 17, 2016by: Matt - United StatesIt was a life changing experience that I would gladly do again. I made friends, learned about a new culture, traveled and ate fantastic food. Working an internship while taking classes was especially crucial as I feel that it was the best way for me to improve my Spanish speaking abilities while simultaneously understanding a new culture. On top of this, it has prepped me for my future career wise as well! I highly recommend this program to anyone seeking the Spanish experience/ anyone looking to improve upon professional development internationally.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Matt! I'm glad you found value in your Spanish Immersion
Internship in Peru
October 16, 2016by: AspiringRN - United StatesOverall, amazing. The amount of time I spent there (6 weeks) was perfect, and allowed me to feel like Urubamba was my home. Quite a humbling experience living in a third world country, and I definitely returned to the States with a newfound appreciation for what I have. Met many amazing people from all over the world. My internship in the hospital was not what I had expected, as I was hoping to get trauma experience. The "hospital" more closely resembled a health clinic, and we as interns were not well-received by staff. On a brighter note, my time spent in the Andean Medicine Clinic was amazing and enlightening. Holistic treatment is not favored in the Western world, and it was quite an eye-opening experience to see, first-hand, that natural, holistic remedies work.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Unfortunately, the hospital wasn't as we had hoped. We will be working on warming up the staff there for future interns thanks to your feedback. :)
I hope between the good outweighed the bad during your time and that the Andean clinic and other trips and cultural activities made up for the less than friendly staff at the hospital!
The valley, the mushrooms, the people
October 16, 2016by: Emily Morgan - United StatesI think it is really hard to have accurate expectations when signing up for any abroad experience, but my 4 weeks in Peru were unforgettable. You truly can't go wrong in such a beautiful, humble place. My coworkers at the mushroom farm were both welcoming and forgiving of my elementary Spanish, and the family that my boyfriend and I lived with provided a wonderful home. I love the Sacred Valley, everything from gorgeous hikes, to Wednesday night salsa classes. I really hope to return sometime soon and visit the many friends we now have there!
Thanks for sharing, Emily! We miss you already! Come back and visit your Peruvian familia pronto :)
Fantastic fun cultural immersion experience
August 20, 2016by: Grant Shillington - United StatesThis program introduced me to the amazing city that is La Coruña, with great teachers to help improve my Spanish, and lots of opportunities to discover the city, the region and its people. I would absolutely recommend this program to anyone looking to have a fun time while meeting new people from around the world and learning about different cultures. A+!
Thanks for sharing, Grant! We are so happy you had a positive experience :)
Viva Peru!
August 05, 2016by: Sarah - United StatesThe best experience of my life, by far. You get to fully immerse yourself into such a rich and interesting culture, and expand your knowledge in your field! They really make sure that you are comfortable and safe, and that you don't leave without seeing everything that there is to see. I had the time of my life in Peru, and I know it wouldn't have been that way had I not gone through linguistic horizons!
Gracias, Sarah! We look forward to having you in Spain next summer!
Stepping Into the Unknown
November 04, 2015by: Reid Pike - PasadenaI had never really traveled much before. In fact, I had never been out of the country before. I knew that I would have to take Spanish at some point and when I found a flier for Linguistic Horizons I knew that it was what I wanted. I went to Spain alone to take Spanish classes and travel for 7 weeks. I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Right away I was welcomed by Nicole the program director and she made my transition into living abroad as smooth as possible. I ended up having an absolutely amazing experience as I was fully immersed in the culture of Spain. I actually learned Spanish, which would have never happened if I were to take a two semester Spanish course at my university. I miss my trip dearly and I recommend it to all who are interested.
Thanks for sharing, Reid! Spain misses you!
I want to go back!
August 24, 2015by: Elizabeth - Chico, CASpending a month in Urubamba was such a treasure, but the time flew! After traveling there with Linguistic Horizons I could see myself returning to visit the Sacred Valley again. The program prepared me to travel on my own and I felt super safe the entire time!
Ready for adventure?
August 21, 2015by: Eliana Soler - San DiegoMy experience interning in Urubamba was unique! I was able to explore fantastic places like Puno. In this island, we got the chance to spend the night with a local family. They were very kind and cooked for us some of their most representative plates with products that they had previously harvested!!! afterwards, we were able to wear their typical outfits, the dresses were so so beautiful and I even felt like I blended into their culture. I was able to "go out for drinks" and dance Andean music with the locals and other tourists while wearing my beautiful regional Peruvian dress. This experience allowed me to truly immerse myself and have some of the best memories ever. This is something not just to read about, but to experience by yourselves!!
Beat Decision! Incredible Experience!
August 10, 2015by: Hailey Underwood - Pasadena, CAThe program was an incredible experience for me. I loved being emersed in the culture, I had one of the most effective Spanish professors, and the program director did an amazing job! I fell in love with country because of the beautiful architecture and culture. The small beach town of Coruña had some many different things to offer from social night life, to gorgeous views, and beaches, the old city, architecture... Everything made it a great experience, especially having Nicole Berry, the program director taking care of the details and going above and beyond!

Intern in the Sacred Valley with Linguistic Horizons
February 27, 2015by: Alfredolordofthedepths - Long BeachExplore Latin America's archaeological capital while interning with the Llama Pack Project. Not only did I see some of the most amazing sights of my life, I also learned about the lives of the people in the High Andes as well as the environmental and social importance of llamas. Peru is a must visit country and it is even better through Linguistic Horizons!
Best program ever!
December 01, 2014by: WaleskaParticipating in this program was the best decision I've ever made! The knowledge I gained ( socially , culturally and educationally ) is priceless . Everyone involved was very helpful and made the process smooth. If I could , I would join every year and do it all over again !!!
Best Year of my life
November 26, 2014by: Traveler4Life - San DiegoProgram: Spanish Immersion - Study and Intern
I studied Business classes during my year abroad in La Coruna. All my classes were in Spanish which was challenging for me at first; but, as the semester went on it got easier to understand. When I arrived, I had taken a couple years of college level Spanish but I was by no means fluent. About halfway through my first semester, I was pretty fluent. The city has great nightlife, really delicious tapas bars and beautiful beaches. I loved that I was one of only a few students from the US in the whole city; because, it really gave me the opportunity to meet Spaniards and other international students from all over the world. I would highly recommend studying abroad in La Coruna!

What inspired you to travel abroad?
Every day is different depending on the nature of each work day. There are days when you have to do office work related to coordination of program activities and management. These days are a bit quieter and serve as a battery recharge for the days when program participants arrive in Peru. When our students are in Peru, we focus on making the most of their time! This means, we work hard to execute the various activities of the programs. At times, we are hiking with the students in the Andes, and other days we are sitting together for cultural activities.

What inspired you to travel abroad?
Since I was a little girl, I knew that I wanted to open my mind and travel. I wanted to experience new things and places, either for tourism, education, work, or a combination of all three! It was, and still is, a goal that has been in my mind since I can remember. My parents traveled a lot because of their jobs and would always talk to me about how interesting and stimulating it was to get out of their comfort zone and experience cultures and places different from our own. They relayed the importance of learning other languages and being able to connect to people through languages. Thanks to them, I started learning English and became fluent at 18.

What inspired you to travel abroad?
I have always been passionate about education, foreign languages, and travel. After several years of brainstorming, I landed on the idea to start Linguistic Horizons. Having studied abroad a few times, I saw a need for true foreign language immersion in study abroad programs. I took the best aspects of my experiences as a student to form new and different programs.
