Work with Wildlife in Cameroon: Limbe Wildlife Centre

As a volunteer, your primary role will be that of an assistant animal keeper. Responsibilities include cleaning animal enclosures, preparing food, monitoring animal health, creating enrichment activities, and assisting with basic maintenance of climbing structures. Depending on your interests and the needs of the centre, you may also have opportunities to participate in education programs or veterinary assistance.

For the welfare of the animals, direct interaction such as touching or petting is strictly prohibited. The Limbe Wildlife Centre prioritizes the health and psychological well-being of the animals, many of whom have experienced trauma. Volunteers are expected to follow strict guidelines regarding animal interaction, and any violation of these rules may result in removal from the program.

Before your arrival, ensure you have a negative TB test, negative HIV test, and a general health check. It's also crucial to have appropriate vaccinations, including yellow fever, typhoid, and hepatitis A and B. Bring enough work clothes, sturdy shoes, rain gear (if visiting during the rainy season), sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and any necessary personal items such as a first aid kit and reusable masks.

All volunteer fees directly contribute to the care and maintenance of the animals at the Limbe Wildlife Centre. This funding is vital for providing quality nutrition, medical care, and enrichment activities for the rescued animals, ensuring their health and well-being.

Volunteers will live in basic accommodations, which typically include shared sleeping quarters and communal facilities. While the conditions can be simple, the welcoming atmosphere of the community and the opportunity to connect with fellow volunteers enhance the experience. The vibrant town of Limbe offers a rich cultural backdrop, along with beautiful beaches and opportunities for exploration during downtime.
