About Limbe Wildlife Centre

The Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting Cameroon’s wildlife. Founded in 1993, we operate in partnership with the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) and the Pandrillus Foundation, a registered non-profit in Cameroon, Nigeria, and the USA. Our mission is to safeguard endangered species, enforce wildlife laws, and promote conservation through education. We provide high-quality veterinary care and rehabilitation for animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade while working to inspire a new generation of conservationists and offer sustainable alternatives to hunting.

Community engagement is at the core of our efforts. Each year, we welcome 50,000 visitors—95% of whom are Cameroonian—and educate over 1,200 children through outreach programs. Our Green Project supports 123 community members with sustainable livelihoods. By collaborating with law enforcement to combat the illegal wildlife trade, we strive to ensure a future where both wildlife and local communities can thrive together.

A great experience!

I volunteered here for a month and had such a great time I will definitely be going back for longer. I've learnt so much and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. As a vet nurse I was given many opportunities to practice and develop my skills, all whilst learning new things. I can't wait to be back!

Life-changing experience

I arrived alone in the LWC and left 3 months later with a backpack full of friendships and a heart full of wonderfully beautiful memories. A lot of things I got to do, I had never done before and were really "once in a lifetime" experiences for me. Working with the animals, cleaning and feeding them, the excursions we took, being absorbed in a culture that was totally unknown to me and the connections we made with the locals and other volunteers. Besides these wonderful experiences, I also developed a life-changing mindset: perseverance, enjoying small things, doing everything you can do ... and just being yourself (authenticity) is what is most appreciated. I look full of admiration at the organization and especially at the people who ensure that what they do now is possible and continue to take on daily tasks with passion. In fact, it was so breathtaking for me that I returned last summer for several weeks.♡

An unforgettable experience

An unforgettable experience. I even went back a few times and now support them from home. The rescued primates are very well cared for, and you can put all your skills to use because they can really use all the help they can get. The staff is incredibly friendly and grateful. The work can be tough at times, but it is so rewarding. In the evenings, you have plenty of time and space to explore the city, either with other volunteers or staff. I highly recommend it to everyone.
