My internship with LEX changed my life!

May 21, 2019by: Cayla Hantzsch - United StatesProgram: A Gap Year for All in Mexico

Interning with LEX Hippo Mexico was one of the best experiences in my life. The organization's mission and values are something truly unique and special and it was enjoyable to be a part of furthering. It was an honor to share my culture with the members and meet members and interns from other countries, all while learning and sharing together. The members of LEX Hippo Mexico provided such a warm welcome and I felt immediately part of my host family and part of the staff at the office. They provided me with great opportunities to not only improve my Spanish skills, but also my public speaking, marketing, translation, and cross-cultural working skills. To this day I remain in contact with everyone I befriended on the program and only wish I had spent more than 2 months there! If you are passionate about language learning and enjoy getting to know people of all ages, this program is for you - LEX Hippo Mexico will ensure that you feel at home.

The best year in Japan

This program is absolutely amazing! I have had the time of my life here in Japan! As I lived with host families I am fully submerge within Japanese culture. Although this internship is physically in Japan, it feels a lot more global than that. The heart of this organization is worldwide. Working in an exchange student/ language learning organization I have been lucky to meet people from all over the world, make world-wide connections, and gain a huge appreciation for languages and other cultures. I am able to challenge myself every single day; to learn something new about work, the world, and myself every day. Everyday is a new adventure, and you can make this experience anything you want and get anything you want out of it. Everyone in this organization is so open-minded, and unbelievably kind; there are so many opportunities to make friends and lifetime connections with people. Besides the amazing organization to work in, living in Japan, learning the culture, history, being able to travel and eat the amazing food is a huge bonus!

Truly a life changing opportunity

The year I spent in Japan through LEX was the best year of my life. The program was very well organized, and I felt safe, comfortable, and engaged the entire time I was there. The best thing about this program was the people I met. I went to Japan in 2012, but I still stay in contact with many of my LEX-Japan friends in 2019. Learning the Japanese language and culture, making friends, travelling around Japan, and interning in a Japanese office was truly a wonderful experience that I am very glad I had. I wholeheartedly recommend LEX to anyone interested in Japan, languages, and a life changing experience!

I wasn't sure what I wanted to study in college, so I decided to figure it out while I went abroad. And I'm very glad I did. It has enriched my life more that I could explain.
