Health Promotion and Community Volunteering in Zambia
Program Overview
Volunteer on this fascinating health promotion and community volunteering project in Zambia. You will assist local staff with the daily challenges facing residents in communities around Livingstone.
You will work with medical teams in the mornings and community-based projects in the afternoons. Community members benefiting from this project include impoverished people, from young to old, many of whom are HIV positive or are suffering from Malaria or TB. Home-based care is vital for this community.
Health activities undertaken on this project include home visits for the very sick, clinical work, HIV education, community talks on topics like nutrition and basic health, and visits to old people’s homes to provide much-needed assistance for understaffed facilities.
Community initiatives include repairing and building structures such as school buildings; supporting local schools by providing much-needed extra pairs of hands for literacy, art and mathematics clubs; and working in local old people's homes. Farming support for sustainable livelihood initiatives is also provided.
