This internship helped me step out of my comfort zone

What I enjoyed the most during this internship were the people I met and the personal connections that formed outside of the work itself. Those moments made my time abroad feel meaningful on a human level, not just a professional one. In terms of personal and professional development, the internship helped me in a more subtle way. It showed me that I am capable of stepping out of my comfort zone, living in another country, adapting to a new environment, and taking responsibility for my work. I went there, I worked, I contributed, and I handled everything on my own. That experience stays with me. It gives me confidence and something real to look back on. I know this experience will matter for the future. It taught me resilience, independence, and the ability to navigate cultural differences - all skills that will stay with me personally and professionally. And most of all, it made me want to keep exploring the world and live experiences that feel true and meaningful.

This internship reinforced my motivation to pursue a career focused on justice and equality.

What I enjoyed most about my internship was the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that directly supported women’s cooperatives and promoted legal literacy. I particularly valued working on the creation of accessible legal guides, as this allowed me to apply my research skills in a practical way while also seeing the real impact of the work. The experience pushed me to adapt to new challenges, like working across languages and managing time-sensitive tasks, which strengthened my resilience and problem-solving skills. Professionally, it gave me first-hand insight into how law and criminology intersect with grassroots development and social reform, while personally, it reinforced my motivation to pursue a career focused on justice and equality.

This internship has allowed me to gain incredible insight into the inner workings of NGO's as well as the relationships and collaborative efforts between organisations with the same goals. It has given me confidence both in my ability to acclimate and contribute to different work environments and has also made me more confident in traveling independently and exploring countries with vast cultural and linguistic differences from that which i am used to.

It helped me grow as a person.

The guidance and support I received from this placement was up to a great standard. My international nursing placement in Morocco has been one of the most transformative experiences of my training so far. Having the opportunity to work in both the maternity ward and the emergency department provided me with a broad and meaningful perspective on nursing care in a different cultural and clinical context. These differences challenged me to become more flexible and culturally aware in my approach to patient care. I observed how nurses and doctors work seamlessly as a team despite resource limitations and high patient volumes. I learned how to prioritize care, communicate effectively with both staff and patients under stress, and assist in urgent situations while staying focused and professional. Overall, this placement not only strengthened my clinical skills but also expanded my cultural competence and emotional resilience. It confirmed my passion for both maternal and emergency care and inspired me to continue growing as a nurse who can work confidently and compassionately in diverse, high-pressure environments.

One of the aspects I enjoyed the most about this internship was the opportunity to immerse myself in a different healthcare environment and culture. I particularly appreciated the warm welcome from the team, the wide variety of clinical experiences, and the chance to observe healthcare delivery from a global perspective. Professionally, this internship significantly enhanced my clinical competence, cultural awareness, and adaptability. I was able to apply theoretical knowledge while also identifying gaps in my practice that I can work on. I became more confident in my ability to function effectively in unfamiliar and sometimes challenging settings. Personally, it helped me develop problem-solving skills and self-awareness. It also deepened my appreciation for diversity in healthcare practices and patient beliefs, reinforcing the importance of culturally sensitive care. Overall, this internship was truly transformative. It not only strengthened my commitment to nursing but also broadened my worldview, making me a more compassionate, resourceful, and reflective practitioner.

Intern Abroad made sure that any queries I had were answered. The accommodation was a traditional Morrocan riad and the architecture was beautiful. What I enjoyed most about my overseas placement was the opportunity to immerse myself in a new healthcare environment and experience a different culture of care. Working alongside local healthcare professionals allowed me to witness alternative approaches to treatment, medication management, and patient interaction. This placement significantly contributed to both my personal and professional development. Personally, it helped me build confidence, independence, and resilience, as I navigated language barriers, adapted to new systems, and embraced cultural differences. Professionally, I developed a deeper appreciation for global health practices, enhanced my communication and teamwork skills, and gained valuable clinical insights that I will carry forward into my nursing career. This experience reinforced my adaptability as a future nurse and deepened my commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centred care—regardless of setting or circumstance.

Unforgettable experience that significantly shaped both my nursing practice and personal growth.

During my internship I received valuable guidance and support from the program coordinators and placement team. They provided clear instructions, encouragement, and assistance with clinical skills, cultural adjustment, and communication. The riad was located in the heart of the old medina, allowing easy access to local markets and cultural sites. What I enjoyed most about this internship was the opportunity to work in a completely new healthcare environment while connecting with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds. The hands-on experience in Morocco allowed me to apply my clinical knowledge in real-life settings, particularly in surgical and post-operative care. I learned to adapt quickly, communicate across language barriers, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, all of which strengthened my confidence and decision-making skills. This internship enhanced my understanding of global healthcare systems and the importance of culturally competent care. It was an unforgettable experience that has significantly shaped both my nursing practice and personal growth, inspiring me to continue learning and evolving.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my experience was the strong sense of community I found among the fellow interns. Their warmth and support from day one made a huge difference, especially when navigating the challenges of settling into a new environment. Beyond the friendships, I gained valuable exposure to day-to-day practices within my placement, which helped me develop practical skills and a clearer understanding of how an efficient, well-coordinated team operates. Being able to observe this first-hand significantly deepened my appreciation for the field. Having the opportunity to explore Morocco on the weekends — particularly visiting cities like Tangier and Chefchaouen — allowed me to immerse myself in the culture and create unforgettable memories. This experience was not only educational and professionally enriching, but also personally meaningful. I will forever cherish this trip as a core memory. It was everything I hoped it to be, and more. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. And a big commendation to the people of Morocco for being so patient, kind, and welcoming. And to the fellow interns I lived with, thank you for making the Riad feel like another place I could call home.

My internship in Morocco was an incredibly enriching and eye-opening experience. Observing the different aspects of healthcare delivery gave me a deeper understanding of the unique roles and contributions of each professional within a hospital setting, as well as the vital support they provide to patients. This allowed me to see the bigger picture of what it means to work in healthcare abroad, and it inspired me to pursue similar opportunities in the coming years. Clinically, I enhanced my ability to adapt to different healthcare systems and practices, gaining a broader perspective on patient care in a multicultural setting. I improved my communication skills by engaging with patients and colleagues across language and cultural barriers, learning to build rapport with empathy and respect. My internship was a truly transformative experience that significantly contributed to both my personal and professional development. I had the opportunity to observe and assist in a fast-paced, resource-limited healthcare setting, which sharpened my clinical judgment, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. I learned to navigate language barriers, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and approach patient care with greater cultural sensitivity and empathy. Observing how Moroccan healthcare professionals delivered compassionate care, often under challenging circumstances, deepened my commitment to medicine and global health. Immersing myself in Moroccan culture with its hospitality, traditions, and rich history broadened my worldview and taught me the value of open-mindedness and humility. Traveling across the country allowed me to appreciate the beauty of diversity and resilience in everyday life. The friendships I built and the stories I encountered helped me grow as a more reflective and culturally aware individual. This experience not only strengthened my sense of purpose in the medical field but also enriched my character in ways that will stay with me throughout my life and career. in addition to broadening and jumping out of my comfort zone and exploring new places, foods and activities.

One of the most transformative and fulfilling experiences I’ve had.

This internship has been one of the most transformative and fulfilling experiences I’ve had so far. What I enjoyed the most was the hands-on exposure to clinical environments, rotating through the ER, Adult and Neonatal ICU, and Maternity Ward gave me a comprehensive and deeply human perspective on healthcare in Morocco. Every day was a learning experience, and some moments, like calming down a young, anxious mother after childbirth, reminded me just how powerful empathy and communication can be in medicine. Professionally, I gained practical insight into how hospitals function with limited resources, how to adapt quickly, and how to support patient care even in small ways. This internship not only affirmed my passion for medicine, but also reminded me of why I chose this path in the first place: to connect with people, support them in vulnerable moments, and grow into a compassionate, competent physician. I’m incredibly grateful for everything I experienced.
