Fiji has hosted IGS interns since 2001. We have partnered with a world-renowned reef ecologist, allowing students to carry out research on and document marine protected areas. After a three-day training period, they begin with research. Living in a Fijian village is one of the highlights. Research findings on reef health and fish counts are sent to UCLA for their mapping project.
Other popular internships include teaching at a local school, wherein students focus on a subject of their choice as well as provide English lessons for the class. Another famous project that students have helped with is work at a local dive resort. They assist clients on dive trips and work with the firm to promote their tours. In their free time, our interns go on excursions to Taveuni and Beqa islands—which are favorite destinations. Beqa is home to the legendary fire walkers.

Kudos to IGS for a great summer! We were assigned to a local dive resort in beqa islands, assisted clients on dive trips and work on some graphics and emails to promote tours. the fire walkers are so cool!!!
We taught adorable children and lived in a Fijian village. As a native English speaker, it was easy for me to teach them basic English words. But the most challenging for me was making some kids calm down after they had tantrums. It was still a great experience. The school treated us as own employees, own teachers. Seems a like a new life for me
Fiji’s beaches are the real deal! For my marine research internship, we worked under a world-renowned reef ecologist and did researches on MPA’s (marine protected areas). We were given trainings before our actual work so everything was smooth. Every detail was well thought off. Im glad I put my savings into this memorable experience.
