Sports Marketing (Sports Management) Internships

by: Institute for Global Studies

Add first reviewSince 1999

Institute for Global Studies offers hands-on Sports Marketing placements, allowing participants to carry out a variety of internship duties. In the past, we have placed students at Pele's former soccer club in Brazil, the athletic director's office of a Division 1 school in Washington, D.C., a minor league baseball team in New York, a championship-level rugby league in New Zealand, a professional hockey club in Sydney, and with America's Cup-winning yacht club in Auckland. Sports Marketing focuses on two areas: putting fans in the seats and attracting advertising from local businesses. To attract fans, the intern attends meetings with management and devises strategies to promote upcoming matches. Some of these promotions may focus on social media blasts. The position also involves public relations tasks, such as reaching out to local newspapers and television stations to encourage coverage of upcoming events. This may include press passes and creating compelling profiles on key players.
