Once the imperial capital of Japan, Kyoto offers visitors a glimpse into the past through its serene temples, lavish gardens, and the historic Gion District, where geishas continue to perform traditional arts. Students will also experience modern culture through the Kyoto International Manga Museum, the Nintendo Museum, lively karaoke bars, and trendy restaurants. In collaboration with Japanese students from local universities, participants will uncover the city’s stories by interviewing residents and developing multimedia projects. Students can earn three credits from the University of Jamestown (transferable as an upper-division journalism elective) at an additional cost.
