CIEE Sustainability + the Environment in Costa Rica

I would be more than happy to recommend this particular study abroad program in Costa Rica to a friend. The staff in this location were very very supportive and kind and the care to make the program interesting and engaging was perceivable.

I have done 2 CIEE programs (one was Barcelona summer 2023 and now in Monteverde, Costa Rica) and both have been amazing: the staff are great, the organized trips are so amazing, the academics are good, etc

This was one of the most valuable experiences in terms of classes and life experiences as well. It was really well run and I felt like most things went smoothly which made the experience that much better.

This was a life-changing experience for me. Despite my critiques about organization here. My experience here has been so extremely valuable and I would recommend it to anyone. I have learned so much in and outside of the classroom.

I would be extremely likely to recommend this program. I honestly feel like it was a life-changing experience that made me a better person. I really loved the classes, the location, the people, the campus, the food, the field trips, and the overall experience. I feel extremely lucky to have this opportunity.

The experience of studying abroad has been very enriching for me. I've loved being immersed within a culture that's different from my own and getting to learn more about how other individuals live. CIEE also provided lots of detailed pre-departure documents and resources within my CIEE portal, which made travelling to another country and living abroad a little easier.

The program was very well organized and I learned a lot - I think the experiential parts of the Monteverde program are invaluable. The trips struck a really great balance between informative/academic and fun, and the internship has taught me a ton about farming and regenerative agriculture. They take great care of us here.

I had such an amazing time here in Costa Rica and I have learned so many things and gotten to have so many experiences here that I will remember forever. Monteverde is such a beautiful place and I will miss it a lot. The faculty and staff were also lovely.

It was a lot of fun, but the curriculum could get chaotic sometimes because we travel around a lot and some people might not be prepared to deal with that, especially if they get car sick a lot. It could also get very rainy and it is not cheep or easy to travel around the country on your own. Students should probably be mentally prepared for this before they come.

Overall amazing experience. The professors and staff were all friendly, kind, and helpful. The field trips and other experiences were once in a lifetime opportunities and combined together into an amazing semester.

I think that this program provides many opportunities for students to be immersed in the local environment and culture. The course I took made excellent use of the surroundings, and made taking a study abroad course feel worth it.

I would highly recommend CIEE study abroad to my friends. It was very well thought out, excursions included, transportation to town on the weekends, and the willingness to help up with anything. Moncho and Hector were great to work with!

I really enjoyed the learning environment and even with covid regulations there are enough safe excursions. The education is top notch and I feel like I have learned a lot about environmental issues and ecotourism that was not possible at my home university.

I loved my homestay family and the location we were in. I think the classes need to be more structured in the schedule, not just placed on random days where there is free time and the TCBP class needs to meet more than it did. Also, I wish the internships were more academically based.

It was an amazing experience. It felt so well-curated. The professors and assistants are caring, thoughtful, and available. I felt that I had the resources I need every step along the way, from the Portland Maine Office to here in Monteverde. I am amazed by how much I have learned and all I have been exposed to. The field trips were absolutely fantastic.

I would recommend this specific program because it is incredible and so thought provoking. I have grown so much and learned endlessly about the world around me and that is so important. In the case of academically I have learned so much and it was very enjoyable to learn through this program.

I don't know about the other programs but I would definitely recommend CIEE-MV-SE program since it combines the lectures and the field trips, which enables the students to apply what they learn during the lectures.

I thought the program was really good in giving me hands on learning opportunities that I wouldn't have in the states- I feel as though I learned a lot more having lived through these lessons in real life with our field trips.

The CIEE experience not only provides students with the educational experience of a lifetime, but it submerges students into the local and national culture. Plus, the teachers in this program genuinely care for the students in and out of the classroom, which helps in adjusting to the local culture, language, and different surroundings. CIEE values an immersive experience for students that has furthered my education and understanding of the world more than I could have ever thought imaginable.
