What are the root causes of the Northern Ireland conflict, commonly called the Troubles? What progress has been made toward building sustainable peace? In a country where imposing "peace walls" still separate historically divided communities, how have citizens assumed crucial roles in conflict transformation? Students examine these questions and more over the course of the semester in this seminar-style class based at Ulster University in the city of Derry-Londonderry. They complete 16 total Augsburg University credits, plus gain hands-on experience during an internship in the community. Program Highlights
Complete an internship and gain hands-on experience while also learning more about the community.
Participate in included excursions around Northern Ireland, to places such as Belfast, and border areas with the Republic of Ireland.
Stay in university housing at Ulster University, together with other U.S. and visiting students.
Learn the context, history, politics, and culture of the region in which you are studying.
Engage with the local community through site visits, guest speakers, excursions, and more experiential learning activities.
