What does the Veterinary & Animal Welfare placement involve?

Work alongside an experienced qualified veterinarian and local rescue shelter in Arusha. Days may include 4x4 veterinary outreach, animal rescues, vaccinations, treating sick or injured animals, community education and shelter-based rehabilitation. Every day is different, with hands-on involvement appropriate to your skills and professional supervision.

Do I need veterinary or animal-care experience?

No! You don’t need to be a veterinary student to join. Participants can contribute through animal care, rehabilitation, enrichment, rescue and community outreach while learning from the veterinary team. Clinical involvement depends on your skills and experience, and veterinary procedures are always undertaken appropriately under professional supervision.

What makes this different from a normal animal volunteer program?

This goes beyond spending a few weeks at a shelter. You’ll combine real animal welfare and veterinary outreach with a Level 3 Global Citizenship Diploma, exploring animal welfare, culture, ethics, One Health and sustainable change. Add personal development, weekly adventures, safari and an international cohort, and it becomes a complete Tanzania experience.
