Program Overview
Spend 6 or 12 weeks in Arusha, Tanzania, combining supervised mental health and psychiatric care experience with accredited Global Citizenship learning, cultural immersion and adventure!
Join a local hospital’s Mental Health Department, working alongside psychiatric-trained nurses, counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers and mental health practitioners. Depending on your experience and supervision, you may participate in clinical assessments, counselling and group sessions, treatment planning, client education, family support, case discussions and community outreach, gaining insight into mental healthcare within a resource-limited setting.
Alongside placement, explore cultural perspectives, ethics, inequality and sustainable healthcare, supported by personal development, Swahili, travel adventures and develop a Legacy Project.
Your Academy experience also includes weekly Tanzania adventures, safari and, on the 12-week program, Zanzibar, shared with an international cohort.
Complete the requirements to earn a Level 3 Global Citizenship Diploma alongside valuable international experience.

Who can join this Mental Health internship?
This is a professional internship pathway, so participants must be currently studying or already qualified in a relevant field, such as psychology, counselling, mental health, social work, psychiatry or a related healthcare discipline. Your experience and qualifications will determine the level of clinical involvement available to you.
How hands-on will I be at the hospital?
Your involvement depends on your education, experience and professional scope, as well as current patient needs. Opportunities may include assessments, counselling, case discussions, treatment planning, psychoeducation, family support and outreach. You'll always work alongside and under the supervision of Tanzanian mental-health professionals.
Is Tanzania safe, and what support will I have?
Your safety is a priority. You'll receive pre-departure guidance, airport pickup, secure accommodation with private security and 24/7 in-country support. Our local team coordinates your placement and included travel while helping you navigate transport, culture, health, nightlife and everyday life in Tanzania.
What is included in the program fee?
Almost everything! Your fee includes Europe return flights, visa, airport transfers, private-bathroom accommodation, daily meals, hospital fees, Level 3 Diploma, training, Academy learning, weekly adventures, cultural activities, safari and 24/7 support.* The 12-week program also includes Zanzibar.
No Sunday lunch, Vaccinations or Travel Insurance as this needs to be obtained by the individual
