Law and Human Rights Internships in Quito, Ecuador
by: Adelante Abroad
Grab this opportunity to gain professional experience at a well-established institution that works to defend human rights, specifically women’s rights. While their mission statement is to become a leader in promoting equality and banishing discrimination, this cannot happen without litigation. Applicants will work within a busy setting to make sure women, many of them young women, have access to justice and can live a life free of violence and subjugation. Help ensure their access to rightful funds and economic rights as well. This organization has three branches: Legal, Psychological, and Job Training. As a law intern, you will be placed in the Legal department and will work closely with advisors, counselors, and trainers from the other departments. A high-intermediate level of Spanish language skills is required. You must also have already taken LSATs and/or be enrolled in law school. Applicants will live and work in Quito from 2 to 6 months, providing numerous opportunities to explore the city and practice informal Spanish with native speakers. Law programs are offered all year round!

Interning with CEDEAL
January 24, 2023by: Caroline Meehan - United StatesThe company that I interned with in Ecuador was dedicated to the democratization of society through increased awareness of individual rights and services that exist to overcome gender-based and ethnic inequalities. As an intern I was responsible for assisting with organizing events, editing and designing infographs and translating documents. Due to my interest in the field of politics and human rights I was intrigued to understand the socio-political issues in Ecuador and how they compare to the United States. As such I was very grateful to have this direct and meaningful experience within Ecuador itself. The people that I worked with at CEDEAL were extremely welcoming and went so far as to include me in weekly office meetings. Due to this welcoming environment I felt comfortable engaging with colleagues, asking questions and taking initiative to offer my services in the ways that I thought would be most beneficial to the company.
