Ten Days in Barcelona That Changed How I Think About Engineering
August 31, 2026by: Makayla Galler - United StatesI spent my Spring Break in Barcelona through the EPICS at ASU Global Intensive Experience, and it was easily one of the most valuable things I've done in college. The program brought 34 of us together to work on real community-based engineering projects alongside partners like Tarpuna SCCL, BIT Habitat, and CARNET, with additional connections to Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and ESERP Business & Law School. This was not a sightseeing trip with a class attached. We were in intensive group work sessions applying what we'd learned in the classroom to actual problems facing a global city. The academic side was genuinely challenging in the best way. A Smart City tour with Guiding Architects showed us how urban architecture and engineering solutions come together at scale, and working directly with local organizations forced us to think about design in a cultural context we'd never encountered before. We also put sustainability into practice with a beach cleanup at Barceloneta, which grounded the whole experience in real action rather than just discussion. The cultural immersion was just as intentional as the coursework. We explored the Sagrada Família, took in the views from Montjuïc, visited Park Güell, learned Flamenco with a local dance studio, and ended one evening watching the sunset from a jazz catamaran. The tapas alone would have been worth the flight. The program leaders, including Dr. Tami Coronella, Jennifer Wong, Claire Lien Luong, and Bastien Kahn, were supportive and organized throughout. They struck a real balance between pushing us academically and making sure we experienced Catalonia beyond the classroom. If you're an engineering student considering a short-term global program, I can't recommend this one enough. You come home with more than photos. You come home understanding that engineering really is a universal language for change.

Surprises in Spain
August 18, 2026by: Enid Benitez Jimenez - United StatesMy time in Spain was surprising, to say the least. When I first got to my company, there were only two people on site. This was mainly because of the difference in starting times depending on the employee. My coworkers were very culturally diverse. Some coming from the Netherlands, some from various parts of Latin America, and a Filipina woman who was raised in Spain. All very lovely people. But the work culture surprised me as it was very lax and the coworkers were very kind. I was able to make friends with my absolute peers and go out around the city exploring the culture and practicing our Spanish. Barcelona was beautiful but surprising in the way of how the pride the people feel for their home reminds me of Puerto Rico.

Amazing experience!
August 18, 2026by: Sophia Sachedina - United StatesI had an amazing experience with Absolute Internship! From the beginning, the program made the process of interning abroad feel organized and supported, which allowed me to really focus on making the most of my time in Barcelona. Through Absolute Internship, I was placed with Atlex Legal, where I gained hands-on experience in immigration law, worked directly with clients, participated in client calls, and contributed to meaningful projects, including developing an immigrant integration business plan. The internship gave me responsibilities that challenged me professionally and helped me become more confident, independent, and comfortable working in an international environment. What I appreciated most was that the experience went far beyond simply having an internship abroad. I was able to experience living and working in Barcelona, meet people from different backgrounds, and grow both personally and professionally. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and would highly recommend Absolute Internship to students who want international work experience while also stepping outside of their comfort zone and experiencing life in a new country.
Best experience of my life!
August 08, 2026by: Ella Walker - United StatesMy experience with Absolute Internship in Barcelona was truly unforgettable. I absolutely fell in love with Spain, from the culture and people to the lifestyle and beautiful city of Barcelona. Having Barcelona as my home base made the experience feel like I was truly living abroad rather than just visiting. I had a favorite supermarket where they knew and recognized me, and we would smile and wave everytime I passed by, a favorite pizza place, etc. Being able to go on weekend trips to other countries and come back to a home was amazing, rather than moving from hotel to hotel for 2 months. The public transportation made it so easy to explore the city and travel to other places throughout Barcelona, and we got a metro card so we didn't have to pay every time we wanted to move around. One of my favorite parts of the program was the people I met. I made some of my best friends through Absolute, and the memories we had are something I will never forget. I also loved my host company and coworkers, who made me feel welcomed, supported, and excited to go to work each day. The program coordinators were incredibly helpful and made the entire experience feel comfortable and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I also made friends who are locals, and I'm planning to go back and visit them.
My experience with Absolute Internship was truly transformative and unforgettable.
August 02, 2026by: Alvin Terrible - United StatesCompleting an international internship in Barcelona gave me the opportunity to grow professionally, personally, and culturally while gaining valuable experience in a global work environment. During my internship, I worked with the European Large Families Confederation (ELFAC), where I developed skills in communication, marketing, content creation, project management, and collaboration with an international team. I was able to contribute to meaningful projects while learning how organizations operate across different cultures. Beyond the professional experience, living abroad helped me become more independent, adaptable, and confident. I was able to explore a new country, connect with people from different backgrounds, and step outside of my comfort zone. The support provided by Absolute Internship made the transition into an international experience much smoother. I would highly recommend Absolute Internship to any student looking to gain career experience, expand their global perspective, and create lifelong memories. This program is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to develop professionally while experiencing a new culture.
Finance and Accounting Intern
July 30, 2026by: Adelina Arevalo - United StatesMy six-week internship in Barcelona with Absolute Internship was a life changing experience. Working at a dynamic firm, I stepped out of my comfort zone to process operational invoices directly through Spanish accounting software, which sharpened my financial skills and adaptability in an international workplace. Beyond the office, the program provided rich cultural immersion, including incredible weekend trips like exploring Madrid. Navigating a new city alongside a cohort of ambitious peers expanded my global perspective, built my confidence as an emerging finance professional, and showed me the value of professional experience abroad. Absolute Internship didn't just offer an internship, it also gave me an unforgettable summer that fundamentally shaped my career direction.
First in 21 years
July 22, 2026by: Selim Efe Çiftci - TurkeyMy first experience was to Skopje,North Macedonia.I stayed there for 5 days alone and it was super exciting for me.I always went somewhere without navigation apps etc. made myself lost and also found my way alone.Small city, but big experience for me.
Amazing experience!
July 21, 2026by: Sophia Sachedina - United StatesMy experience with Absolute Internship in Barcelona gave me a strong balance of professional experience and independence. I interned at Atlex, where I worked on immigration law-related tasks such as client communication, visa documents, translations, case organization, and support letters. The work was meaningful because it connected to real client matters, but it was also balanced with enough time to experience Barcelona and adjust to living abroad. I felt like I was gaining practical legal experience while also learning how to navigate a new city, workplace, and culture. The Atlex team was welcoming and willing to teach me, which helped me become more confident in a professional setting. Before this internship, I was unsure whether law was the right path for me. After working in immigration law, I can now see it as a career option I would genuinely enjoy. Overall, the experience gave me more direction, confidence, and a better understanding of what legal work can look like in practice.
Learned so much, and gained life-long connections.
July 21, 2026by: Lyanis Barreto Mercado - United StatesI have had an incredible experience in Barcelona, and much of that comes from the comfort Absolute Internship provided. Their Orientations gave me a clear idea of workplace customs and helped me better prepare for the internship with that knowledge in mind. The Program Coordinators were kind, and I grew comfortable with them to ask for advice and recommendations; I know that I could go to them whenever I have an issue or concern. The activities they set out for us allowed me to meet people who I soon became close friends with, and they reached out to make sure that I was comfortable throughout my time there!
A Journey That Shaped My Future
July 19, 2026by: İrem Karyagdi - TurkeyThis international internship was one of the most valuable experiences of my academic and professional journey. As a Management Information Systems student with a strong interest in marketing, social media, and international collaboration, this program gave me the opportunity to apply my knowledge in a real working environment while continuing to learn every day. I was able to strengthen my communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability skills by working with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds. My curiosity, willingness to learn, creativity, and ability to work well in a team helped me contribute to the projects while also growing personally and professionally. The internship was well organized, the mentors were supportive, and I was encouraged to take initiative and develop new skills. Beyond the professional experience, building international friendships and experiencing a new culture made this journey truly unforgettable. I returned home with greater confidence, a broader perspective, and valuable experience that will positively shape my future career. I highly recommend this internship to anyone who wants to develop professionally, challenge themselves, and gain international experience.
Completely Out of My Comfort Zone (in the Best Way Possible)
July 13, 2026by: Emily Seager - AustraliaTaking part in an overseas internship in Barcelona was completely out of my comfort zone, but in the best way possible. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my degree and gave me so much more than just professional experience. My placement at Bach Legal was the highlight. The office environment was welcoming and much less formal than I expected, which made it easy to ask questions and learn. I gained practical legal skills while also building confidence in taking on new challenges and asking for help when needed. Absolute Internship made the whole process straightforward. From pre-departure check-ins to ongoing support throughout the program, I always felt looked after. They organised accommodation, provided a clear schedule of activities, and kept everyone updated, making the transition to living overseas much less stressful. I also enjoyed meeting people from around the world through the program. Outside of work, I loved immersing myself in a new culture. One moment I'll never forget was seeing the inside of the Sagrada Família during a guided tour—it was absolutely breathtaking. This experience made me more independent, adaptable and confident, and showed me how many opportunities can come from stepping outside your comfort zone. If you're considering applying but feel nervous, I'd say go for it. You'll have support every step of the way, and you'll learn so much about yourself in the process.

Interning in Barcelona!
July 07, 2026by: Jenny Seddon - United KingdomMy time on Absolute has been truly transformative! From meeting peers from multiple cultures and backgrounds, to immersing myself into Spanish culture and work-life balance, I couldn’t recommend the opportunity to other young people any more! The ongoing support from staff also really ensured we all felt settled in and ready, both before and during our time here (shoutout to Claudia and Gio!). Thank you Absolute, for such a great experience!
Hello from a Curious Visual Designer
June 24, 2026by: Boran Uğur - TurkeyHello, my name is Boran. I recently graduated from the Visual Communication Design department. I define myself as someone who does not like to stay limited to a single field, but rather constantly seeks to learn, explore, and gain new experiences. For me, design is not only a profession, but also a way of understanding people, cultures, and stories. During my university years, I had the opportunity to take part in Erasmus+ projects and experience international environments in Poland. I also gained experience working in multicultural settings in Poland, which helped me develop my understanding of different cultures and ways of working. Working with people from different countries, getting to know new cultures closely, and experiencing different perspectives have significantly contributed to both my personal and professional development. I have visited many European countries so far, and each journey has taught me something new. I am a curious, energetic, and highly motivated individual who is always open to growth. I enjoy meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, and continuously improving myself. I aim to build my career in design by adding international experience, learning different working cultures, and developing my creativity in new environments. Therefore, I see the internship opportunity in Barcelona as an important step that will both enhance my professional skills and enrich my life with valuable experiences.

Best decision i've made in college so far!
September 17, 2025by: Stella Goodman - United StatesMy internship has helped educate me on the different aspects of marketing, and helped broaden my perspective on new areas of work I am also interested in. I feel confident in the relationships I made while abroad, and feel like I grew a great network not only professionally in Barcelona, but also socially with new friends all over the US and even abroad! I think that Absolute Internship gives their students the perfect amount of structure in order to feel supported and welcomed, yet also the freedom to remain independent and explore abroad for themselves.

April 15, 2025by: Sıla Akyol - TurkeyI am a 23-year-old chef who lives in Turkey and has just graduated from university. Thanks to Erasmus+ projects, I have done volunteering projects in Vienna, Austria and Hamburg, Germany. I have been to Copenhagen, Denmark, Vienna, Austria, Hamburg, Luneburg, Germany and Otopeni, Romania. As an energetic, dynamic and curious young person who is curious about learning things, I worked in three different hotel kitchens and restaurants in Turkey before going to different parts of the world and practicing my profession with new cultures. Engineering Internship in Barcelona is great
February 14, 2025by: Cuby Tsin - ChinaDuring my year 3 summer, I have had a chance to go for an international internship organized by Absolute Internship. It was the best summer I have ever had. As a student with engineering background, I was interning in a structural consultancy. Since it is the first time for me to work in engineering industry, I have understanded what’s the main tasks in an engineering consultancy. During the internship, I was assigned with different tasks including structural calculation, design with software and modelling. Besides the assigned tasks my supervisor, I was encouraged to do some self-study on my own based on my interested topics and share to my colleagues of what I have learned. It is a wonderful experience for me that I have chance to work and think out of the box. At the same time, the international working experience allows me to immerse myself in a new environment and to experience a more relaxing working environment. I am currently working in an engineering consultancy as an assistant engineer. The internship helps me a lot in equipping myself with how engineers mindset should be in order to contribute to the community, which correlate to what I am working on now.
Great Career opportunity for students
December 13, 2024by: Divya Sharma - IndiaI had an incredible experience with absolute internship during my internship program in Barcelona in the summer of 2022 while studying at the University of Kent. The team was exceptional in helping me choose the perfect program, tailored to my interests and career goals. This internship provided me with valuable opportunities for both personal and professional growth. I gained practical experience, developed new skills, and built connections with like-minded individuals in my field. It also gave me a significant confidence boost as I took my first steps toward my career. Beyond the professional benefits, one of the most memorable aspects of the program was traveling with fellow interns and exploring the beautiful cities of Spain on weekends. These adventures added an extra layer of excitement and created lifelong memories. I highly recommend absolute internship to students and young professionals looking to kickstart their careers. It's a fantastic way to grow, learn, and experience life in a new and vibrant culture.
An Absolute-ly Amazing Summer!
November 25, 2024by: Lois Turley - EnglandDoing an internship with Absolute Internship this summer is the best decision I have made for my personal and professional development! I spent a month in Barcelona as a marketing intern where I was able to spend time in industry and meet amazing people from across the globe. I heard about Absolute through a Global Opportunities session at my university. I first explored a few different companies but from the start the team at Absolute Internships was engaged and happy to answer my questions. They helped me find an amazing company to work with and helped me get ready for the trip through briefing sessions. There was a period of quiet in between being placed and gearing up to start, but it was good to know I could reach out with questions if I had any. After landing in Barcelona and meeting the Program Coordinators I felt comfortable. It was scary to travel on my own but the transport to our accommodation was a great way to meet my fellow interns. We had a nice meal to get to know each other and a city-wide scavenger hunt in teams helped introduce us to the city at large. Our program coordinators were on hand if we had any questions, which was very reassuring. The accomodation was lovely with great facilities on site and nearby. Being able to go for a swim in the pool after working remote was very refreshing! My internship company was a perfect match for what I wanted to gain experience in. Being able to create content to a brief and have constructive feedback at every stage really helped me feel more confident. I quickly was able to get involved in the brand and am proud of the work I delivered. Putting theory into practice has made my third year at university much more productive as I can better understand key concepts. I could not recommend this experience enough to anyone who is interested in travelling and gaining experience in their field! Absolute Internships was the perfect summer experience and has led me to further opportunities which is improving my career.

As a Mexican, seeing the world has always been super important to me! My dream has always been to see the world, learn from other cultures, and see how other Hispanic cultures differ from mine. I have family who travels a lot, and they always told me the importance of traveling, especially while I'm young.
