About Center for Global Education, Augsburg College

Year Founded: 1982

Since 1982, the Center for Global Education at Augsburg College (CGE) has provided experiential, community based education abroad programs throughout Latin America and Southern Africa. Over 10,000 students have participated in our programs from more than 200 institutions of higher education. Our programs are holistic, analytical, and transformative. Each program involves many excursions - both urban and rural - in order to facilitate encounters between students and a variety of local people; we intentionally create opportunities to engage with the stories of the community. Homestays occur in each program, internships are available in multiple regions, and many programs travel to more than one country!

CGE has received a GoAbroad Innovation award for diversity and inclusiveness, in addition to recognition from the National Society for Experiential Education and the Council on Social Work Education for outstanding programs.
