Great Trip but Make Sure It’s Right for You
I came to Barcelona on one of the earliest trips here and everything has turned out amazing for me. Going there with the program was incredibly helpful. Xplore Asia did their part and worked hard to guide me hand by hand every part of the way. We had a very fun first week of vacation, an awesome TESOL program and Spanish classes were so fun. The issue is that finding a job in Spain is difficult and scammy. The English Academies are often investigated so employers are very nervous to hire you. You don’t have permission to work at first because Spanish classes aren’t automatically recognized as an institute. When you get a job, they can submit paper work but they will cap how much you can work and the pay. I got three job offers in week before I found a place I felt secure. Xplore set up every interview for me and really helped. However, if you don’t interview well or if you aren’t a Native English speaker, finding a job will be tough, if not impossible. This wasn’t properly emphasized to peers on my trip and watching them search for a well paid teaching job was tragic. Barcelona is a beautiful metropolitan city. It has its problems with over tourism and housing. The program was so fun and Spain has my heart. Just be careful that, even though the program helps with every step, it’s a complicated, risky, and an expensive process. I was the first trip and maybe things have changed. I found great living conditions, great work/life balance, and met so so many people. In fact, I still live in Spain! Please carefully evaluate if you have the means to do this trip or if you need more security. For me, it was worth it.
