Worst agency to go through

I had problems from start to finish, from open racism to pay discrepencies between qaulified (lower paid) to unqualified teachers. Little to no help with looking for accomodation. Had to pay for excursions and orientation alone with no refund! Was left to it and to navigate alone. Poor support throughout and left alone to deal with things. There is also ongoing partnerships with awful schools who have a history of not paying staff. Avoid avoid avoid!

Response from provider

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are concerned by the issues you’ve raised, though we currently have no record of a participant under this name or matching these specific circumstances in our recent cohorts. We take allegations of racism and pay discrepancies extremely seriously. We pride ourselves on placing hundreds of teachers from diverse backgrounds across our network every year, the vast majority of whom have transformative and positive experiences. Diversity and inclusion are at the core of what we do, and we do not partner with schools that engage in discriminatory practices or withhold pay. Regarding your comments on orientation and accommodation, our standard programs include a comprehensive one week culture and language orientation in Cambodia. It's one of the most important things we do because we want to help teachers get a very in-depth experience in the host country so that it makes the transition smooth. We would like to investigate exactly what happened in your case, as this does not align with the level of service we provide to our teachers. Please reach out to us directly through the website so we can verify your placement details and look into these matters immediately. We are committed to ensuring our teachers are supported and treated fairly, and we would like the opportunity to address your concerns directly. Thanks so much Mike

You feel a lot of different emotions

My 1st year with exploreasia was fantastic I really can't fault it the girls went above and beyond to help in anyway they could. GGoing in to the second year I've come to learn that you are no longer important and not a priority for them despite it saying lifetime commitment when joining. I would have thought they would treat us all the same regardless if you have been here a while or are new, that it not the case. I feel very uncertain about my future with them now after learning all this and I am looking for my own job as I feel that will be a quicker way which is very Disturbing. The careless attitude of the person that took over is disappointing.

TEFL changed my life.

I never once thought I would want to become a teacher, and took the TEFL course as a way to travel the world. Now I have been in Cambodia for almost a year and I have no plans on leaving! My quality of life is so much better and I love my job!

Cambodian Adventure

When first researching a new career and country I struggled to make it feel real and viable, a short TEFL course online and some research and left me floundering. That's when I found XploreAsia - they streamlined the whole process from documentation, placement and training and even more with activities throughout the year. Now I'm a thriving member of the community - I just moved in with my girlfriend, I receive great feedback as a teacher, I go on amazing trips around the country and have a fulfilling set of hobbies and social life. I couldn't be more grateful for the start I got here and the life it has given me. I have finally found my place and I strongly encourage anyone who has the desire and bravery to begin anew to give it your all. You won't be disappointed!

Moving to Cambodia is the best thing I've ever done!

Moving abroad can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re dealing with visas, work permits, and settling into a completely new environment. Xplore made the whole process so much easier. I completed my TEFL with them in Hua Hin, which was an amazing first experience—I met so many great people, and the training helped build my confidence. While I was on the course, I had my first interview for a school in Cambodia, which really helped me feel prepared for the move. When I arrived in Cambodia, Xplore organised a full orientation week that included basic language lessons, visits to some of the country’s most famous landmarks, and support with arranging accommodation and meeting the landlord. I did face a few issues with my first school placement, but Xplore were quick to help and supported me in finding new opportunities through their guaranteed placement scheme. I’ve now been at my current school for two academic years, and I couldn’t be more grateful—I genuinely love the school and the people here. Xplore made a big life change feel manageable, and I’m really thankful for their support.

A great organization to help start a new life abroad!

XploreAsia Cambodia has been an incredible organization that's helped me to get my new life abroad started and organized. Their network of schools and staff is unmatched and they've helped me to secure everything I need to stay abroad long term. I was able to comfortably begin my new life thanks to their help. And the continue to help me anytime something comes up or if I have any questions.

First Step is Always the Hardest!

The hardest part about doing something new, is always the first step. Moving to a new country and look to start down a new career path would definitely fall under "something new". Xplore Asia made the first step, and the second step AND the third step just easier. The support the team offers is genuine and very helpful. When I first arrived, I still hadn't gotten a placement at a school, which is normal considering it was near end of the term. However, the team worked hard every day to get me one and within a month I had a placement in Phnom Penh. They have a team locally that will answer any questions, give advice and sometimes plan events for the teachers in the area. Cambodia itself is incredible! The culture is rich, and the people are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. I have been here for two years so far and will be continuing for at least a few more. As with any journey there are challenges but if I ever needed help with any of them Xplore Asia's team helped. As a new teacher looking to build a solid teaching foundation, I appreciate all the support from the school and Xplore Asia!

A life changing experience.

I was lucky enough to be placed at a school in the province of Ratanakiri. Beautiful people, staff and children alike. The staff are so welcoming, the children so polite. It was extraordinarily difficult to leave my family at the age of 55, but the experience has been with it. And I get home as often as I can.

One of the most rewarding experiences!

My experience so far in Cambodia is truly a great experience. When I first arrived, I definitely had a culture shock but with the help of Xplore Asia, my transition into a new country has been a lot smoother. I’ve learned that the Cambodians/ Khmer people are extremely kind, generous and helpful also. If you need any assistance with anything, there isn’t a helping hand that’s far away. I really adore the Cambodia/ Khmer community- they’re all about community and teamwork! The food here is amazing! My favorite dish is the Curry Chicken and Rice. I have it maybe once a week but there’s plenty of food you can choose from. Last but not least, I really love being a teacher here. My students are eager and ready to learn everyday! I learn a lot from them as well. Overall my experience in Cambodia has been one of the most rewarding experiences and plan to stay for a while to fully immerse in the culture!

I changed my life for the best.

I've loved my time so far in Cambodia. The XploreAsia team have enabled me to find a low stress teaching job here in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The team are always there to support me and advise me on anything that I need help with during my job placement. The children are so lovely and passionate to learn. Cambodia is a lovely, safe country to live in and I have not had any negative experiences to date. I have had many wonderful experiences during my time here in Cambodia and XploreAsia frequently invite me on exciting trips, of which I recently took part in. Living a great life in Cambodia!

I came to Cambodia in March 2025 to teach English abroad. I was very nervous to leave my home for the first time in my life, but XploreAsia helped me every step of the way. The wonderful staff with XploreAsia made sure that my transition to life in Cambodia would Be as seamless as possible. They helped me arrange my travel documents, found me a job placement before I even left the US, and helped me find an apartment when I landed in Cambodia. Everything from the culture to the people in Cambodia is amazing. I have made friends with several Cambodian people along with other expats living and working with me. As a female traveling alone I have never feared for my safety and feel genuinely happy to be in such a wonderful country. All of my students are very smart and respectful, which makes teaching here even more fun. I love this beautiful country and can’t wait to continue my life and career in Cambodia!

Dare to Change:)

If you asked me 6 months ago where I would be now, I never would have imagined I would be teaching ESL in Cambodia, but I am extremely grateful for this opportunity I have obtained in Phnom Penh with the help of amazing staff at Xplore Asia. The staff at my school are extremely supportive and helpful with my transition to living in a new country, along with Rose and Naihean continuing to provide support and guidance for my new life. There have been many ups and downs so far, but I can't express the gratitude I have for the programs help with orientation, exploring the city, learning the culture, and continuing to provide assistance as I teach, develop, and grow in Cambodia. Moving to Cambodia has been filled with new experiences, new friendships, new challenges, and of course a huge change in my pace of life. But this change has been the underlining reasoning for my growth and development. Big thank you to the program and it's amazing staff for providing this incredible opportunity, I'm grateful for this experience and excited for more change and adventures to come in Cambodia!

Sustainable move to South East Asia

XploreAsia helped both my husband and I to get jobs at really good schools. No funny business, the schools are vetted and we are both delighted with our jobs even though all jobs have challenges. Xplore was so quick to arrange the administration after we received job offers. When we got here the orientation program helped us to be a step ahead: we understood some cultural nuances and some Khmer when we started our jobs, which makes a big difference in the workplace. Xplore also made efforts to present a tailored orientation program to us, with special dates. I was impressed that they could quickly come up with this unique plan for us two. The team could have spiced up the cultural excursions a little more, but we enjoyed them nonetheless. The accommodation during orientation was okay, but the location was ideal. Xplore provides help with finding long-term accommodation, but we preferred to go about this privately for a couple of reasons. The visa process is now only done through our schools, which helps to simplify the situation. However, Xplore helps with the first visa. As we both have European passports and paid a VIP fee we haven't had any visa issues. I would warn South Africans that I have many acquaintances and colleagues who had trouble on South African passports, and South Africans still have to do a border bounce even with Xplore. To wrap up this review: we have had a great start in a very under developed country and I thank XploreAsia for that! Thank you to each staff member that did their part well. They have made the fee worth it. I don't know about the other countries, but I would recommend them if you want to come and work in Cambodia.

I had an amazing experience!

Xplore Asia has been so amazing in helping me prepare for my new teaching role here in Cambodia and the staff have been incredibly helpful. I couldn’t recommend them enough! Orientation week was filled with lots of learning and new experiences. I am very grateful for the staff here who have been so supportive and welcoming!

A Life changing experience!

This was the experience that I needed! It pushed me well out of my comfort zone; something I was not accustomed to. The Xplore Asia team were excellent throughout the duration of my internship and continue to assist me during my placement. It is a big risk to take, leaving behind all that you know, to work in a foreign country with a completely different culture, but when all is said and done, Idon't regret it and wouldn't miss this opportunity for the world. Special thanks to Naihean, Rose, Cassidy and Elana.

The best choice of my life

After much deliberation, I finally took the leap and decided to teach abroad. Opting for XploreAsia turned out to be the best decision of my life! From start to finish, the XploreAsia team provided unwavering support to ensure that my experience was nothing short of amazing. They helped me select a program, secure a placement, and provided top-notch training. Now, I'm living my dream, teaching at a vibrant kindergarten/primary school in the bustling heart of Phnom Penh. I couldn't have asked for a more fulfilling adventure!

Amazing introduction to teaching and the continent

I can only express how glad I am to have chosen Xplore. The guidance they provided from the start was incredibly helpful, ensuring that we were ready for the transition and accommodated within minutes of arriving. All the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming which greatly helped with an feelings of anxiety. The interview process meant that all the other applicants were equally vibrant and interesting people, something that I treasure as many of us have stayed in contact and frequently still meet up. I participated in the full course, studying under Jon who had endless amounts of advice and humour to offer whilst supplying a well-planned curriculum that honed our teaching skills before entering the classroom. Without this I fear I would have felt underprepared for the wild world of TESOL teaching in Asia. Even as my journey continued from Thailand into Cambodia, the new staff I met were just as amiable and supportive as the last. Whilst I feel I could have made this change without outside help, I feel as though Xplore have given me the best start I could have asked for. Thank you for everything!
