Best Semester Ever

Seriously, these months were the best of my life so far. Melbourne is an amazing city, and I think a lot of people don't consider it as much as other Australian places, but for me I feel like it had everything I could've wanted. There's so much art and good food, and there's always something to do. I attended the University of Melbourne, and the courses that I took were on the easy side, largely because I was doing what would count towards Gen Ed at my home university. The people in Australia are so friendly and lovely, and I felt very safe there, even in the middle of the CBD. I can't wait to go back someday. Make the most of your time there, or anywhere abroad!

The coffee really is better!

To explain my title, before arriving in Melbourne, I wasn't a huge fan of coffee. But the my program advisor from TEAN told me I had to try the coffee in Melbourne because American coffee is actually not very good. So I did! And then immediately became a coffee addict! This is about how the entire semester went. I honestly cannot find a bad thing to say about Melbourne. The people were friendly and I know I am going to remain friends with them for years to come. The TEAN staff was also very knowledgeable about all things Australia and made sure we knew the best spots to go for something as simple as a coffee. I am so happy I chose TEAN and recommend it for anyone thinking about studying abroad

Melb baby! The chance of a lifetime

Studying abroad in Melbourne, Australia was amazing and so impactful. TEAN helped me get all my paperwork done in a timely manner and were very helpful in making sure I was on time for everything. Melb itself is a beautiful city that has so much to offer on every corner. It is full of rich culture and has incredible food, coffee, art, and music. The place has something new waiting for you always. If you love the arts then Melb is totally for you. You don't need to look at a phone at any point as there is just so much street art or someone performing on the street. I attended RMIT University which was right in the CBD. Its modernism was cool to see next to some historical buildings. The city is thriving with new buildings going up everywhere. It truly is booming. I met some pretty awesome people as well and was able to create friendships that will last forever. Overall, the experience was superb and going through TEAN was easy to do. I recommend Melbourne to anyone.

In a TEAN study abroad program, you get to know the staff on a more personal level. The week long orientation in the beginning is filled with meeting new people and hearing new stories, not excluding the TEAN staff (who have many exciting study abroad stories to tell)! These personal connections extend when you are relocated to your host city, and the TEAN staff always check up on you throughout your semester and plan unique outings to attend. They make sure that the opportunities are always there for you to have one of the best times of your life.

6 months that change the way I see my last 20 years

Studying abroad in Melbourne through TEAN was a remarkable experience. I took trips to a variety of exciting places in nature and in the city. Melbourne is a beautiful place, the people are for the most part welcoming and enthused with visitors; the food is varied from delightful cheap dumplings to gourmet crocodile burgers to chicken parmas (a pub staple); the culture takes influence from both Europe and Asia, culminating in an exciting mix unique to the city. Through TEAN I gained an immediate group of friends and explored parts of the city and surrounding areas (including going to New Zealand with a fellow TEAN student), all with whom I still keep in touch. We were guided and helped throughout my time there by the TEAN location advisor, who was a spectacular asset. The trips offered were also very cool, we went on a walking tour of the whole city, watched an AFL game, and took a tram down to St. Kilda to dine and watch some comedy. They were helpful through the entire trip, and I very much recommend studying through TEAN.

Melbourne became a second home!

Studying abroad with TEAN was one of the best decisions I've ever made! The adventure began immediately with our four day orientation where we saw kangaroos and koalas, went scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef and even got to go bungy jumping. During these first few days everyone got to know each other and I made friendships that lasted not only the whole semester but continue after coming home! The housing accommodations were up to date, clean and were in the heart of the CBD which was a great location! I loved the campus of University of Melbourne, it was the perfect mixture of old architecture and modern design and the classes offered were interesting and different from the options available at my home university. TEAN provided fun activities throughout the semester and a network of support! I would recommend this program to anyone wanting to study abroad :)

Most spontaneous five months of my life!

TEAN Abroad was incredibly helpful in my transition from my home university to life abroad. They guided me in the entire process of applying for the program at my dream destination of Melbourne, Australia. Not only did they organize a fantastic orientation in Cairns, Australia, but they also continued to enhance our experience by showing us around our chosen city and brought us to different events throughout the semester. Because of the incredibly nice people at TEAN, we got to see a live footy match and sport the hometown gear in the fan section. We got to see a comedian at the International Comedy Festival and a concert at a local music venue. They tailor each program so that everyone can experience something they enjoy and make everyone feel right at home. Not once did I feel unsafe in my apartment or ignored from the TEAN staff. I got to spend my five months abroad in an apartment right in the city center with great new friends who I still remain in contact with. If anyone is looking to study abroad in Australia, New Zealand, or Asia, I highly recommend they use TEAN as their third-party organization to help make their experience remarkable right off the bat.

Studying in Melbourne, Australia offered me things I never thought were possible. It gave me confidence, friends that will last a life time, amazing experiences, and a great education. I learned more than I could have ever expected. I got to travel and see things I would never see without this experience. The University of Melbourne was absolutely breath taking and had a wonderful staff. I loved each and every minute I spent throughout the city and the University.

The greatest decision I could have ever made

Studying abroad has changed the way I view myself, and the world. Since my trip this spring, I’ve completely changed my perspective on learning, and what it means to grow outside of my college bubble. Studying abroad has shown me to take full advantage of opportunities, for they could lead to some of the most significant and influential experiences of your life. I’ve become extremely passionate about traveling, and the importance it has on higher education. What I loved most about my time abroad was that learning didn’t stop when I left the classroom. As a member of a foreign community I learned to be independent and open minded to all the country had to offer. I believe there’s no better way to learn, than to learn by doing, and immersing myself in a completely new culture has impacted me in ways that staying home could not, and I’m very excited to share my experiences to other students. Melbourne is the perfect size for study abroad. It’s big enough to have something going on at any given time, but by the end of 5 months I could travel around the entire city and know where I’m going. There is so much culture within art and music, but also has great beaches and national parks, as well as it’s close to the Great Ocean Road and other surfing and hiking locations. It has an incredibly competitive vibe when it comes to footy, but also has an overwhelming sense of acceptance for diversity of fashion, customs, and people as a whole. Overall, studying abroad with TEAN was the greatest time of my life. I learned more about myself, other people and cultures, about how to be independent, and how travel and adventure through life this past semester. Never again will I be able to befriend 20 new strangers, and be able to travel with all of them to some of the most notable places in the world. TEAN gave me the building blocks to be successful through information sessions, housing, affiliation with the University, our RD, and so much more. Traveling to foreign country can be incredibly daunting, especially a country on the opposite side of the globe. TEAN recognizes that vulnerability and makes sure that we are completely taken care of.

Absolutely life changing

My time with TEAN honestly truly life-changing. If you are reading this review and considering studying abroad, DO IT! TEAN and RMIT offer so much it’s mind-blowing. From the start of my application to the flight back TEAN was always on my side and was always willing to help in any way possible. One thing they stand out in doing is having a TEAN advisor that will be from your host city and will always be there to help during your semester abroad. They will also host nights out at events in the city. One-night Rob, our Melbourne advisor (Still a good friend of mine!), he invited everyone out to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. TEAN does it right and kick-starts your abroad experience with an orientation in Cairns that allows you to meet other students that are studying abroad in your host country. During orientation, they prepare you for any culture shock that you may have and teach you about your host country by taking you on an adventure of exploring the ancient Daintree Rainforest. They also give you a free day to pick between various actives such as skydiving, Whitewater rafting, and cliff jumping. RMIT offers so much in almost every field of study. From the incredible architecture to the fun classes that they offer. RMIT also offers an unbelievable orientation experience to all the international students. I was honestly surprised how organized and professional and entertaining. As a business student, the business courses are amazing. The design program they have is also incredible, they offer their students the best computers and software to use. Melbourne is truly a life-changing city. There is so much opportunity and sites to see. The city is so lively and multicultural. Everyone that I’ve ever encountered was very open and friendly to everyone. If you are thinking about studying abroad I would definitely recommend studying at RMIT in Melbourne with TEAN you would definitely not regret it.

I am so grateful to have spent a semester in Melbourne. It has become my favourite city in the world, and is the reason now I am back in Australia in hopes of living here long term. Melbourne is an amazing city with an artistic plethora of activities and neighbourhoods to wander around. I made some of the most amazing friends of my life in Melbourne and in the program as well. The University is beautiful and the professors are very approachable despite the large class sizes. I will always regard this experience as the best thing I ever chose to do in my college career. Thank you TEAN!

Studying abroad with TEAN, in Melbourne, was the best choice I've ever made. TEAN has amazing support, before during, and after you are abroad. My nerves were easily calmed and the orientation really got me settled in fast. TEAN gives each city a resident director, which is an amazing resource to help you get immersed into your city's culture. Melbourne is an amazing city that has many opportunities, a great night life, amazing cafes, shops, and more. RMIT University is a great uni right in downtown Melbourne. I was able to meet many locals through my classes. Overall, studying abroad in Melbourne with TEAN was better than I could have imagined! It truly was the experience of a lifetime.

I'd go back in a heartbeat

Where to even begin! Studying abroad was never a question for me; it always seemed a no-brainer! I would get to attend school in a new country while living in and exploring a brand new place? Yes please! However, my study abroad experience was not as vacation-like as many of your Facebook friends make it out to be. It was hard. I didn't know anybody going into this program, plus I had never lived in a city before so I knew I was going to have to adapt to my new situation. However, even though it may be scary jumping into something like this it is so, so, so worth it. While in Australia I got to climb to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, road-trip down the South Island of New Zealand, and scuba dive for the first time at the Great Barrier Reef! Hands down the most amazing trip of my life. Another point I want to touch on is that many of my peers choose to study abroad during the summer because they don't want to "miss out on anything", quote, un-quote. To me, this is a little bit ridiculous. I lived in Melbourne for roughly 4 and a half months and I only began to feel at home towards the end of my trip because there were so many new things to discover and learn. So, to any skeptics I say: When will you ever have this opportunity again? Take a leap of faith, jump in, and have the experience of a lifetime.

Marvelous Melbourne

Melbourne is a great city, but it would have been impossible to experience the best parts of the city without TEAN. TEAN pointed me in the correct direction and advised me what the best places to visit were. There are countless experiences to have while overseas and each one is worthwhile, but not all are possible to do. With TEAN's help I was able to have all the great experiences I was hoping for. I would go back and complete the program again if I could. I am very grateful for my experience.

TEAN made the ABSOLUTE best 5 months of my life possible!

I am so incredibly thankful that I decided to study abroad in Australia through TEAN. They were the most organized, helpful, accommodating, and just wonderful people. They had a resident advisor who was amazing and helped us get more acclimated into the Melbourne/ Australian life and also had events throughout the semester to facilitate this even more. TEAN is the number one study abroad program in my opinion! I 100% recommend people studying abroad to go through TEAN!! Studying abroad was honestly the best thing I have ever done. Even though I had done quite a bit of traveling in my life, I had never been alone in a different country, literally on the other side of the world. It was incredibly liberating and eye-opening. It was wonderful to experience the way academics are in a different part of the world, especially at the best university in Australia. I definitely felt the rigor, but academics is very important there. I loved learning in a different setting than what I am used to at the University of Michigan. I honestly felt like a new person once I got back to the States. I was able to truly get immersed into the culture in Melbourne which was incredible. Melbourne offers so much, from an AMAZING music and arts scene, to wonderful food (and veg friendly food!!), amazing nature areas, the beach super close by, and just an amazing amount of diversity in terms of people and cultures. It was incredible to be immersed in such a cultured environment. I met some of the most wonderful people during my time in Melbourne. I saw some of the most amazing sights both around Melbourne, and in Australia in general. And I had the absolute best time of my life. Studying abroad changed my perspective on my own life, as well as my views of other countries and the world in general. I think it is so important to see and experience other places to really fully understand the world and the environment around us. It is such a wonderful personal growth experience!!

What TEAN offers is beyond words, This program facilitated the best six months of my life!

I don’t think I could have made a better decision than to study abroad at the University of Melbourne through The Education Abroad Network. The TEAN program surpassed my expectations in every way and facilitated the best six months of my life. In Melbourne, there was always something to do. If I wasn't spending the day hiking and exploring the bush in the Dandenong Ranges or Mornington Peninsula, you could find me down alleyways looking for the tastiest food, the best coffee, or new and upcoming artists in the heart of Melbourne's CBD. I am a HUGE foodie, which is probably why I loved Melbourne as much as I did. Melbourne is the food, coffee, and music capitol of Australia and for a good reason. On a Saturday morning, the whole CBD smells of brunch, as delicious smells waft from every direction. I probably spent most of my money on exploring new restaurants and eateries, while becoming a regular at a few. I followed a few food bloggers from Melbourne and found myself exploring further and further out into the different suburbs of Melbourne, literally eating my way through the city. We lived in the heart of Melbourne right on the edge of the CBD (central business district, aka downtown). I never knew how much I enjoyed city life until my study abroad experience and I didn’t want to leave! Living in the CBD meant that we were never more than a short walk or tram ride from wherever we wanted to go. With music festivals, farmers markets, coffee classes, and adventure clubs, Melbourne was never short on excitement. The city itself had an awesome vibe that thrived on street art, performers, and the diverse communities that make up the surrounding suburbs. If you have been to Portland, Oregon, that would give you a taste of what Melbourne has to offer. Along with orientation, mid-term trips, and Spring Break trips to Thailand and New Zealand (which both are beyond amazing), TEAN does a great job at ensuring that each student has the best study abroad experience possible. TEAN provides students with Resident directors in their chosen cities that make the experience of studying abroad even more amazing! Studying through The Education Abroad Network was a great decision as it streamlined and organized the process, while ensuring that my study abroad experience was nothing less than amazing! Studying Abroad taught me to embrace new cultures, seize opportunities, and inflamed my desire to travel the world. The Education Abroad Network program provided me with incredible opportunities that I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else!

An Adventure Abroad

Studying in Australia was the best thing I've ever done. Melbourne is an amazing city that's devoted to the arts and food. Whether you want authentic Chinese dumplings, French belgian waffles, Thai mango rice, Greek gyros, or just a delicious burger, you can get it. If you want to spend your nights in hidden bars dancing to some funk, or checking out a play or concert or art gallery, Melbourne is the place for you. If you need to get away from the city, there are beautiful ranges, mountains, and beaches just a short train ride away. My favorite part about this journey was that you can get anywhere in Australia and the South Pacific (Bali, Thailand, New Zealand, Fiji, Sydney, Cairns to name a few paradises). As for the University of Melbourne, it's considered the best university in Australia. You will be surrounded by bright individuals who are devoted to school. If you find yourself more of an artistic type, opt for RMIT. Both are great schools with great professors and resources. All in all, I met the most amazing people, experienced the most amazing things, and would recommend studying through TEAN to anyone. They are with you every step of the way, give you lots of treats, and plan the most incredible adventures of your life.

Going to Melbourne changed my life. The Education Abroad Network was there from day one to help me every step along the way. The classes were challenging but there was plenty of resources available for when I needed help. The professors were all very friendly and helpful. The local team member Rob was amazing. He knows everything there is to know about Melbourne and was always available to answer questions when I had them. My roommate and I always looked forward to meeting up with him. We always had a good time and laughed constantly. Rob in very genuine and made my experience better than it could have possibly been with out him. Housing Our housing location was great. It was right in the city and only about a 10 minuet walk to campus. The room was brand new when we got it and the building was really nice. We had everything we needed, a kitchen, shower, and on sight laundry facilities.\ Health and Safety I did not ever feel unsafe in Melbourne, even when I was walking home alone in the dark. It was a very safe place. As for health, as soon as we had an issue we contacted Rob who gave us help immediately. Food Melbourne has AMAZING food. You could go out to eat for every meal and still not eat at everyplace. The food was one of the best parts.

TEAN: Best 5 Months of My Life Studying in Melbourne!

I can't describe how happy I am that I chose to study abroad through TEAN! They were so incredibly helpful from Day 1. They help you with accommodations, visas, transcripts, and any other thing you can think of. Although I studied abroad in Melbourne, I began my adventure in Sydney for the TEAN Orientation. It was the absolute best start to the study abroad experience. TEAN set up fun activities to explore the city and get you more acclimated to the Australian culture. It was a great way to meet other people in the TEAN program as well. After the Orientation, I spent my semester in Melbourne studying at Melbourne University. I loved every second of it! Melbourne is an awesome city with so much going on. TEAN provides a resident director for each city who is there for you if you have any questions or concerns. TEAN also sets up activities so you get to experience the culture. For me, some of these activities included a footy game and a music concert for the band Cat Empire. Your resident director accompanies you to each of these events. It was comforting to have a someone from TEAN there in case you needed guidance. TEAN also provided amazing housing! It was right in the heart of the city so you could really immerse yourself in the Australian culture. It was really quality housing and had everything you would ever need. I wish I could go back in time and do the semester all over again. TEAN is definitely in large part why I had such an amazing experience and I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in studying abroad!

The Education Abroad Network was instrumental in making my study abroad experience at Deakin University in Melbourne. Australia is exceptional. The guidance and support TEAN offered throughout the application process was great. I was immersed into Australian culture by living in an amazing house in one of trendiest neighborhoods in Melbourne. TEAN provided all of this for us. They also provided a resident director in Melbourne who took us to events all over the city and was also a resource if we ever need anything. Deakin was a short commute from our housing and was a beautiful campus with interesting classes. Overall, TEAN gave me an amazing study abroad experience!
