Psychology Internships in Zanzibar

by World Unite!
Program Overview
We offer internships at the public psychiatric hospital, Kidongo Chekundu Mental Hospital, in Zanzibar. This program is intended for psychology, medicine, social work, and occupational therapy students.
The public psychiatric hospital follows a holistic, biopsychosocial, interdisciplinary approach (encompassing biology, psychology, and the social environment). Consequently, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers are involved in the treatments. The hospital's psychologists, who possess MA degrees, supervise you throughout your internship. Tasks include participating in and implementing group and individual counseling and care, and attending ward rounds (Wednesdays and Fridays).
You will intern at the hospital from Monday to Friday for 6-8 hours daily, working under a supervisor from your field of study. You can generally complete this internship for university credit.
