An Unforgettable Experience

December 28, 2023by: Maria Brophy - United States

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Thailand through World Endeavors. My host family were some of the kindest people I have ever met, and I felt so welcomed and cared for. My internship placement was great, and I got to learn a lot about Thai culture and OT in Thailand. I was able to take a lot of weekend trips to different parts of the country and I found Thailand very easy to navigate solo. I think the biggest surprise for me was how at ease I felt when I was there. This was my first trip out of the United States, and my first time ever traveling solo, but I always felt safe and would go back in a heartbeat. My experience in Thailand is something I will cherish forever.

Would stil recommend to my friends or collegues

The program of World Endeavors was really good for the personal goals that I had, but it was low for the professional goal. indeed, I think that the company wasn't the best for my skills. But would stil recommend to my friends or collegues.

I loved my time in Thailand and can't wait to visit again

I did not get the administrative experience I initially had hoped for, but to compensate I learned a lot about the hospital environment as well as the Thai healthcare system through formal and informal settings. I got to contribute on a small number of larger projects. The staff at the hospital found ways in which I could teach them, which made me feel like I belonged and was important to my working environment. I am unsure if I made many professional connections that might help me in the future, but I definitely made a number of personal connections that will last a long time. These relationships were the highlight of my summer. I loved my time in Thailand and can't wait to visit again.

World endeavors genuinely cares

World endeavors genuinely cares about their participants and does a fantastic job of preparing them for departure as well as guiding them through the journey itself. Even though once I landed in Thailand and talked to my in-country coordinator for most things, I still felt I could go to world endeavors if I ever needed anything. Both my in-country coordinator and World endeavors did an excellent job of offering advice and comforting me during my rough adjustment period. I trust World Endeavors picks wonderful host families/living situations for all their participants, I had the best host family I could have asked for and the other interns I worked with said they loved their host families as well. Many thanks to World Endeavors and the great work they do!

I got to shadow an occupational therapist

I got to shadow an occupational therapist in a setting that I've never done before (a school for disabled children). Despite the language barrier, I was able to learn so much from this experience because of how wonderful the advisors were and the teachers at the school!

My WE coordinator was super helpful

December 10, 2022by: Mover

My WE coordinator was super helpful, but there was a lot of tiny stressful miscommunications and hoops to jump through especially during a covid pandemic. For what you got in the program, I honestly think the price is quite high since I paid for my flight and part of meals myself as well as transportation. In addition, I wish the program payment plan would have been spaced out more as the payments are quite expensive when they’re due.

This experience enabled me to explore a side of me I did not know existed

This experience enabled me to explore a side of me I did not know existed. I would not be who I am without having had the opportunity to travel abroad. I am thankful to the program for helping me discover more about my personality, my academic goals, and my professional goals. I feel as if I am more prepared for my future after this experience.

Wine internship in Thailand

March 26, 2019by: Nicole Stacy

My World Endeavors' coordinator was very thorough and prompt with answering all of my questions. They help me arrange my internship in Thailand where I do wine tasting and assessing order wines, planting new vines, vine management, helping teach a tasting course in order to prepare for teaching classes on my own to non Thai, English speaking guests. In Thailand, I observed that the people are very genuinely kind, carin and hospitable. They hate to waste anything and are careful with the environment.

Hospitality management in Thailand

I love my host family, and the hotels I have worked at. I have worked at 4 different hotels and have helped with tours, and front desk operations. Some days were slow at the hotel, because it is there low season. So I didn't have a lot to do. I just always asked them to give me more tasks, or if I could help with anything. But now it is getting to be there busy season so there is much more to do. : ) I hope to get better at the language, and see as much as possible of Thailand when I am not working.

I have been working with the vet team to work on continuing cases with the animals. I have gained a lot of hands on experience with species I never had a chance to previously. I am hoping to see a few more things around Chiang Mai and learn a little more of the language.

Extremely friendly workplace in Thailand

March 24, 2019by: Emily Vogt

I love how World Endeavors allows you to choose the country, program, and dates you are available. I had a blast in Thailand. Thanks so much for the help! Everyone in my workplace is extremely friendly and always willing to help you. They are very lenient with timing, even for transportation so you need to make sure to always leave very early if you need to be somewhere on time. Be ready to eat a lot of carbs if you are not used to that. All they eat are rice and noodles with every meal! Not complaining though, it’s delicious. There are certain jobs that you might have to wear the color shirt of the week that it is here (ex: Monday - yellow, Tuesday - pink), also if it is July since the king was born this month and on a Monday we have to wear yellow most of the days.. Also, I love the village I am in but it’s extremely hard to get anywhere, so depending on how much time you have in Thailand you might want to stay in Bangkok where it is easy to travel!

From work life to nightlife in Bangkok

Nightlife in Bangkok is amazing! I did some shopping, spending time with my new Thai friends, and partying! As for my placement, the work load i've been given was important and a key-component in the company's development plan.
