Photography/Social Media Expert/ Traveling Volunteer
Program Overview
This volunteer program takes place in Arusha, Tanzania, where photographers and social-media creators document VfAW’s education and outreach work. Volunteers support an international NGO focused on humane, community-led animal welfare by capturing ethical photos, videos, interviews, and behind-the-scenes moments that highlight daily field activities.
You’ll photograph school sessions, community outreach, team work, and local interactions, gathering material suitable for stories, reels, and digital storytelling. Optional tasks include drafting captions, basic edits, and assisting with the content pipeline. Clear organization and handover of media are essential.
This role is designed for volunteers with experience in photography or social-media creation, strong communication skills, and visual-storytelling ability. Volunteers should be flexible, proactive, and comfortable working in a cross-cultural team.
Stays range from 1–3 months, and all volunteers receive safety and cultural orientation before and during their time in Tanzania.

How long can I volunteer?
The minimum stay is 1 month, and most volunteers choose 1–3 months. Start dates are flexible throughout the year.
What costs should I expect?
Volunteers receive a private room in a shared house. Living expenses such as rent, food, and local transport are shared among volunteers, averaging around €300 per month. Flights and visas are not included, and VfAW does not charge participation fees.
How many hours a week will I be volunteering?
The average is 25 hours per week. We request flexibility as some weeks may have more hours than others but it will even out. You will get 2 days off per week.
What will my main responsibilities be?
You’ll capture ethical photos and videos, gather stories and interviews, document field activities, create behind-the-scenes content, and help organize and hand off media files.
Do I need my own equipment?
Yes. Volunteers must bring their own camera, lenses, and a laptop for editing and uploading content.
