Vantage TEFL Certification 120-Hour, In-Class Course

Vantage’s TEFL course is intensive as I was advised before enrolling. Having said that, it’s not that the course is difficult to understand, it’s that there is a lot of material to get your head around. I found if I kept at it each day, it was quite manageable. Even when talking about grammar—just part of the course—the course instructors made the subject manageable and highly engaging. My observed teaching practices were where Vantage truly excelled. The feedback I got after each class was instrumental in developing the teaching skills I will need to be a successful in the classroom. Vantage was always there every step of the way to reassure me and kept building my confidence with each practice session. Vantage’s job services was also great. Their Jobs Coach showed us how to build a professional resume and cover letters and we also covered interviewing techniques to get schools interest in you. I was interviewing with multiple schools the first week out the door. In the end, I landed a fantastic job with an annual contract at a leading international school in Bangkok. Vantage was an amazing experience. I would definite recommended working with these guys for anyone looking to build a teaching career.

While doing my research I saw there were a lot of TEFL programs in Thailand but not many in Bangkok, especially not good quality ones that have an in-class training. Based on the reviews and conditions that weren't hard for me to fulfill as a non-native English speaker to join the course, I decided Vantage would be a good choice. After a visit to the school, I was convinced that Vantage was the right place to be and I wasn't wrong. TEFL training was intensive, but I've come to learn so much during the 120-hours course. Our group was small so we had the full attention of the trainers and we were able to express any doubts we had and get personalized feedback. I wasn't sure I was cut out to be a teacher but after the course and especially the practical part where we had to teach Thai students, I gained confidence and was able to improve my abilities while applying what I've learned. I would recommend this school and especially in-person classes to anyone who wishes to start a teaching career, whether they've had experience teaching or want to switch careers like me. Vantage trainers are knowledgeable and offer great support when it comes to seeking job opportunities. I quickly had to find a new career as my job as a former flight attendant was made redundant due to coronavirus crisis. Once I knew I wanted to pursue a new career teaching English. I realized that I would need excellent training to build the new skill set I would need to be successful in my new job. While still in Europe, I googled up the top-rated TEFL trainers. That research led me to Vantage. I was first surprised to learn that they were among the top-rated TEFL programs on the planet. And they were in Thailand which was a top choice of where I wanted to teach. I wanted to immediately hit the ground running post-TEFL and get some viable teaching experience so I could, in a post-Covid era, teach anywhere in the world. In Vantage, in my observed practice teaching classes, I had guidance at every step in developing six separate lesson plans/ I got fabulous feedback after each class session. And, in the end, I developed professional teaching skills. I got better with each practice class. I joined Vantage’s TEFL February course, and because of the corona virus crisis, this course was small with only one other student. The first thing I can say about this course is that I wish it was longer than just 120 hours! The content was very in-depth, and Chris, Vantage’s lead trainer, was very good at both addressing book knowledge and adding his own two and half decades of teaching experience. This was a TEFL course that was both intensive, interesting and always engaging. I’ve worked in the aviation industry for almost 10 years—a lot of the time which was a technical training instructor. I’m not new to training. So I was more than surprised that even Vantage’s first few classes opened my eyes to the various teaching techniques that are embedded within the ESA methodology and the skills I would need to be successful in the classroom. This was not an easy course that you could just do on autopilot. There was a lot of material to cover, but again I found myself always engaged—the time just flew by. I got better and more knowledgeable with each class. The small class size was really great because it allowed us to have in-depth and detailed discussions with Chris and Kevin (their Jobs Coach) about anything we learned. More than half of what I got out of the course me from those direct discussions with the trainers. The things I got from those discussions weigh heavier than any of the book content. This really can’t be replicated in an online only course, Vantage doesn’t train you to work as an English teacher: they train you to BE an English teacher. If you are looking to be successful in a teaching career, these are the people to work with.

Vantage is quite flexible. Initially enrolled in their Hybrid Combined Course, I switch gears and decided to attend In-Class TEFL program. I glad I did. While the course book is very good, Chris adds a lot more based up his two plus decades of teaching experience in Thailand--this is the stuff you can’t get online. He’s a first class coach. We had a lot to learn. He made the significant amount of material we had to go through both very interesting and highly enjoyable. He uses a workshop style which I found to be always highly engaging. The activities we went through made us thoroughly understand the methodologies we were studying and techniques we were employing. The practice teaching sessions were done with diverse types of students. At a local government school we taught primary-aged kids of 5-6 years years. Class sizes were larger here, which made teaching a more challenging experience, but one does learn when thrown in deep water. On the other side of the spectrum, we also taught college kids of 18 year olds at a nursing vocational school in smaller classes of some 12 to 16 students. Vantage also have their own dedicated Jobs Coach. Together we created my own Power Resume and Cover Letter templates. He also taught us interviewing techniques and job hunting tips Overall it was a great learning experience, but a challenging one. I’m very confident that as a new teacher I can go out into the world and confidently and deliver successful English classes.

I want to the best TEFL training possible, and in my research, one name kept coming up again and again: Vantage. But I still want more proof. So I sent many e-mails to their Course Director Kevin about their course and also my concerns about finding a teaching position after graduation in the hospitality field, where I had a lot of experience. He then gave me proper guidance on my creating a Power Resume and techniques to succeed in an interview. He was more than helpful and lined me up with interviews that fit my requirement. I also had concerns regarding an In-Class vs. an online TEFL. . After two days spent in the class with their lead trainer Chris, I immediately felt that an In-Class course was the right choice. Being able to train with real students in a live classroom--both young learner primary kids and young adults—is a big strength of Vantage. I more than a little skeptical at first to whether I even needed a TEFL as I’m a native English speaker. And I wondered if Vantage’s TEFL course would be sufficiently stimulating to engage me over four weeks of full time instruction. Vantage TEFL super exceeded my expectations in all areas! Chris, Vantage’s lead trainer, has a couple of decades of teaching experience, and it shows as he gave me so many tips from his experience that you would not get on any online course. He’s a highly qualified trainer. The communicative approach to language teaching—particularly the ESA methodology…Engage, Study, Activate…was something completely new for me. But this method gave me an entire framework to engage and challenge my students—and most importantly, to get them speaking. I first learned how to formulate a viable lesson plan, which was the first step in our six observed teaching sessions. Then I used the ESA approach to deliver my classes. I found this to be highly advantages and this “class structure” made my classes highly successful—and a lot of fun. The feedback I got from Vantage’s trainers gave me both confidence in that I was doing a number of things right and challenges in areas they wanted to see improvement. The bottom line is that I got better and better every time I taught All in all, the course and the trainers at Vantage delivered a professional, world-class TEFL teacher training.

Vantage TEFL gave me the teaching skill set I needed to face a class of non-English speaking students. This course taught me how to prepare and shape my lesson planning to the needs of my students. I’ve learned how to teach both kids and adults. I now feel confident to teach English to students of any level. The Lead trainer helped me achieve a very high level of competency. I did lots of observed practice teaching—first at the college level where we taught young adults—then, teaching young 6 and 7 years old kids in a public primary school. The feedback I got after each session was invaluable and my teaching skills got better after each class. Vantage’s TEFL course also had a foreign language component and culture orientation classes. Particularly useful was how Vantage incorporated the “do’s and don’ts” when teaching in a Thai school. I had originally considered doing my TEFL in Australia and then come to Thailand to teach. However, I now realize I wouldn’t have gotten anything close to a Thai cultural grounding and acclimatization if I had stayed in an English speaking country. . Additionally, Vantage have partnerships and key relationship with great schools, so getting a job was essentially guaranteed. They also have their own dedicated jobs coach. I was taught how to create an exceptional Power Resume and cover letter. Doing my TEFL at Vantage was one of the best decisions I’ve made in terms of the instruction I received and the support I got.

In a word, ‘spectacular’ is how I would define my time spent with Vantage. The training team was more than welcoming and they always extended a hand when help was needed. The guys were supper supportive before, during and even after the course was completed. Vantage employ a workshop style in delivering their TEFL course book. You don’t sit and just listen to lectures. You’re always involved with the material in terms of discussions and activities and each student and made them feel like a team player. The observed practice teaching was probably the single most important part of the course. We taught diverse students in a range of settings. Teaching 6 and 7 years olds in a Thai government school. Teaching 18 year old college kids in a nursing college was the other side of the spectrum. I’m an English teacher in Russia. While I’ve had some success in the past, I believed I could be a more effective instructor if I had a more professional approach to language teaching. Before I used to present concepts in my classes, but after studying the ESA methodology (Engage, Study & Activate) of teaching English, I soon realized it was my students who should be doing most of the speaking. My time with Vantage TEFL was fantastic! The trainer kept the class moving at an engaging pace while we absorbed a lot of highly informative material. The observed practice teaching was the most transforming part of the course. I was given a chance to try out what I learned from the coursebook. Then I self-examined my own performance first and then I got great feedback from Vantage’s trainers and what I did well and what could be incorporated in the next session to make an even better class. We also had to observe and give feedback on what our peer trainees classes too. I know I became a better teacher each time I stepped in front of the classroom. What else can I say? The facilities are good and air-conditioned, teaching resources are very extensive, the instructors are very knowledgeable with decades of teaching experience. I was a different kind of TEFL trainee as I’m Thai. My goal was to teach outside my home country, so I felt I needed an international qualification. I was also an experienced teacher as I’ve taught over seven years in Thai schools. What I needed was a TEFL course where I could further develop my skills to become a more effective language teacher. My bachelor’s degree in education was strong on theory but I wasn’t really taught the teaching skills I needed to be effective in the classroom. Vantage proved to be just what I needed. It was quite an intensive course—in terms of the material that’s covered. I learned how to formulate a very professional lesson plan and how to source needed class materials. I took several actual visits to TEFL course providers as the result of my short list created by my laborious research for the right course in Bangkok. In the end, only Vantage stood out. When I arrived at Vantage, I immediately knew I was in a professional training center. The Course Director met me personally. . Vantage’s facilities are modern and clean. The training center had a lot of natural light from a wall of windows overlooking Thailand’s iconic Elephant building I had a lot of concerns and many questions. I researched a lot of other TEFL courses both online and through directly contacting and visiting my shortlist of providers. I had nothing but a very positive experience in dealing with Vantage at this stage in the process. My appreciation grew the more I experienced the Vantage team and process. They are extremely friendly and experts in their craft. And while their TEFL programme was intense, it was always engaging and the time just flew by. The Vantage team always went the extra bit to ensure that I would have a successful start in my plan to have a teaching career. Vantage trainers are competent and super knowledgeable. Vantage delivers the course content in a professional, easily digestible manner. The classes are well structured and the practicum was a great help. It was an invaluable opportunity to have 6 hours of observed teaching. It was here that the classroom theory learned that was learned in the course became the teaching skills I need to be successful in the classroom. It was also great that we could teach a range of students. Kids in a primary school to young adults in a nursing college. I think that Vantage’s TELF course has really prepared me for my new teaching career. The trainers have decades of experience and it shows. They provide a ton of information not found in the books—especially relating to Thai culture and customs and the dos and don’ts in a Thai classroom I have thoroughly enjoyed every part of this course. This course far exceeded all my expectations. The Vantage Team is especially the lead trainer Chris whose persona makes the course an enjoyable experience. Yes they cover a lot of new content, but the highly engaging workshop style kept it all manageable within the one month timeframe. The practice teaching work was, for me, the heart of this course. For me, the teaching practices were the best part of the course. Not only did I have to teach six practices classes, each one on a different language topic, but I had to observe and give feedback on experienced teachers and even my peers. We gave lessons to a diverse group of students at both a Thai military primary and secondary school and also at the college level to 18 and 19-year-olds. The bottom line was that I developed the skills to become a successful teacher and that included a lot of valuable teaching techniques. I ended up learning a lot about my native language and even about myself. The lessons I gave built a lot of confidence and prepared me well for my new teaching position. The job services were great! They even found a teaching position before the course was completed. I graduated on a Friday and starting work the following Monday. I’m very happy I went with Vantage. I took the 120 Hour onsite course in Bangkok, Thailand from January 6th to January 31st. In the January session I was the only student. My trainer was Chris Demetsopoullos. The course is taught by a very good teacher in a structured and comprehensive manner. The course goes through classroom management, parts of speech, grammar, lesson planning, special topics, and more. By the end of the course I felt confident to teach English, The 8 hours of teaching practice really helped. Basically, If Chris the instructor wasn't there to teach the course I couldn't recommend the course. The course does have some areas that need improvement specifically in job support, guidance, and administrative decorum. THE GOOD - The course is structured and you’re provided with course materials. While not an extensive course on all parts of teaching and the English language, It covers a lot of aspects of teaching the English language. - Most students do 6 hours of supervised teaching practice but since I was the only one I got to do 8 hours - Chris, the instructor, is very good at teaching the course material. His twenty five years of experience in education shows through and through. His classes were taught full substance, humor, and nuance. Classes are engaging and he makes every attempt to make the material interesting and relevant. I learned more about grammar and teaching than I thought I could, and that has a lot to do with Chris’s teaching ability. - Course work is manageable and clear from the start. You receive a trainee binder at the start of the course which contains all the work you’ll need to complete and turn in. - Resuming building portion of the course was helpful. Lots of examples and knowledge on interviewing strategy. - The course is accredited by Lamar University and you receive masters credits. - By the end of the course I felt competent and ready to teach English in a methodical and communicative approach. COULD BE / SHOULD BE IMPROVED - I wanted to teach in Korea not Thailand, I was met with discouragement and determent from the school director. It came off as rude and argumentative. It may have to do with the fact that it benefits Vantage if they can place you in a job in Thailand through their partners. - The Vantage office building is not the nicest and could some some modern updates. - On their website, it’s stated several times that vantage will put you into their ‘’Lifetime job support“, Thai and global recruitment network”, and “unique leads and vacancies of the best jobs advertised”. This is very misleading, let me be clear they offer very limited actual job support. If you don’t want to work in Thailand, they have no relationships or leads with schools besides Thailand. - The job support is not so different from what you could accomplish on your own from googling jobs. - Job support pretty much ends with resume and interview techniques. THE BAD - On the last day of the course, you are sat down with the course director and basically asked to write a review on the spot for the school. You’re also told that if you want to have them “tweak” your review with your permission they can. I refused to write a review on the spot and also felt incredibly uncomfortable that they would even ask to look at my review and make “tweaks” before I posted it. - Regardless of what the reviews are used for(marketing purposes or otherwise) I feel it is incredibly unethical to exercise any amount of control or influence over the reviews that students write about their experience with the course. - All of the reviews that Vantage currently has lists no constructive criticism of any kind. I assume this is due to Vantage seeing and somewhat influencing reviews before they are post and students thinking this is normal and agreeing. GENERAL NOTES - Vantage English is a partner school of iTTT(International TEFL & TESOL Training) and teaches iTTT’s tefl course book - If you decide to work in Thailand, Vantage has relationships with teacher placement programs. While not unheard of, Vantage receives a small compensation for placing students in Thailand with their partners.

A fantastic course that has my highest recommendation. Vantage run small classes so you get highly personal attention from day one to graduation. The Vantage training team has decades of experience and it shows! I learn everything I know about teaching a language from these guys. Their depth of experience in teaching was fundamental in my development of becoming a teacher. Everything that is done in class is a step in preparing you for your first day of actual teaching non-English speaking students in a real classroom. Every step of the way, from first learning how to prepare a professional lesion plan to teaching techniques, I felt I was duly prepared to step in front of a class. The trainer’s tips and especially their detailed feedback after each practice session prepared me for where I am today. Yes, there were times of panic. But even then I was taught how to have contingencies in my lesson plans. I was ready for Plan B. I also got great help on the drop front. The resume and cover letter Vantage developed for me is the best of seen. Their interview coaching was also eye-opening for me. Moreover, they even supplied references for me after the course was over. Finally, it was a lot of fun. I had great times with my group of trainees and today I’m proud of my new training skills. Thank you Vantage. I am now ready to teach English. Bring it on!

I had a good friend who took the course about a year earlier and he couldn’t say enough good things about it. A subsequent visit to their training centre confirmed everything I’d heard before. Vantage’s training team was unbelievable. The lead trainer was answered every question I asked. They also give their course in a workshop style I really benefited from all the discussion and feedback I got—training that went well beyond the material in the course book. I believe most other TEFL courses are done in a more formal lecture style. They also have their own “Jobs Coach.” I sat with him and crafted a personalized professional Power Resume. Something must have worked! I got multiple job interviews that turned into offers within days of finishing the course. If you want to teach professionally, this is the training team you should call. I’m really glad these guys ended up as my first choice.

I did Vantage’s Combined Course as I was working full time. I completed the online portion, which is the course book online, then I came to Bangkok for my observed practice teaching sessions where I taught six classes over 10 days. I first thought it would be pretty easy to do the practicum, but I soon realized that the formulation of lesson plans—and their many revisions—took a bit more time and effort that I originally anticipated. Having said that, the feedback I got from Vantage’s trainers was focused, highly targeted and very useful. Even though I’m an experienced educator in my native New Zealand with more than two decades in the class, I was new to teaching non-English speaking students. I found the communicative approach I was now using highly effective in teaching a second language. And I saw myself getting better at it with each practice session. We also observed the trainers do their ‘expert demonstration” session as well as other trainees practice classes and learn from their overall experiences as part and parcel of our practicum experience. I have learned a lot at Vantage and I would recommend them without hesitation. They will guide you each step along the way. The bottom line is that you will develop the foundational skill set and you’ll come out ready to teach.

I got a great job teaching high school chemistry in English in Thailand. However, as I wasn’t TEFL certified the company that hired me recommended Vantage as their preferred provider for teaching training. I was told that Vantage had provided them with a number of teachers who were all subsequently highly successful in their client schools This TEFL course was intensive, but the Vantage trainers made each class fun and, as a result, the course just flew by. Vantage uses the communicative approach to English teaching and I soon found myself eliciting responses and praising my students constantly, creating a classroom experience that made it really engaging for my students and exhilarating for me. This was during the practicum or observed teaching practices. I had to do six—each one on a different language topic—and I got great feedback from the trainees and I improved every single time I taught. It was here that I really developed my professional teaching skills. But perhaps I should back up a bit. Before I stepped into a classroom, I first had to learn how to create a detailed lesson plan. My plans were evaluated by the lead trainer where I had to show my teaching aims, learner objectives, and any anticipated problems that I could encounter. Vantage also includes what they call the “foreign language experience,” where the trainer taught the cultural customs of Thailand and the different expectations that are used in their classrooms. This included a lesson on Thai language where we sat on the other side of the desk’ and got a really good idea of what a language learner is going through. Vantage is the complete program. I plan to use a lot of what I’ve learned even as the subject teacher I’ll be doing as a Chemistry instructor. If you are serious about the quality of your future teaching, I would point you in this direction.

That—backed with decades of experience is really the essence of the world-class program. The training I got was second to none. Not only did I learn a ton of theory, it was the in the observed practice teaching sessions where my newly gained knowledge became teaching skills. Real skills I could now demonstrate and use in a live classroom. We started off learning how to complete effective lessons plans which gave me a plan of for the classroom. Teaching was new to me. I was a professional athlete for many years and I was pretty nervous about making the transition to the classroom. I was worried about finding a job. However, I got superb help from their Job’s Coach and he showed me how to accent my training background as a football coach on to the teaching field so to speak. I am a proficient, but non-native English speaker (French is my mother tongue.) And as I’ve seen too many ads about how non-native speakers need not apply, I was worried about getting a good job as an English teacher. My “job” concerns were quickly addressed. Vantage has its own specialized jobs coach. I sat with him and created my own Power Resume. I was coached on interviewing techniques and how to handle the NNES objections. Vantage then reached into their network and I secured an interview and hired before I even graduated. Vantage TEFL training team is super professional. They first taught me how to make a professional lesson plan before I even stepped into a classroom. This included formulating learner objectives and teacher aims. A fantastic course that has my highest recommendation. Vantage run small classes so you get highly personal attention from day one to graduation. The Vantage training team has decades of experience and it shows! I learn everything I know about teaching a language from these guys. I joined this TEFL class as an experienced teacher at the university level. I was trained there to drill a lot of grammar into my students and the result was that no one really learned that much and they really didn’t achieve any real improvement in the English. Too many students just dropped out. I choose Vantage because of its emphasis on the more modern “communicative approach” to language teaching, even though I wasn’t completely sure I knew what that was when the course started. Vantage’s ESA methodology deemphasizes traditional grammar and memorization as the primary technique in second language acquisition. And while grammar is important—and the course covered it well—the emphasis when teaching in the classroom was to get the students speaking through an elicited and directed techniques. That’s why the observed teaching practices was the best part of Vantage’s TEFL course. However, before they had me step into the classroom, I had to learn how to make a viable Lesson Plan. Once I chose my language topic, I had to define my learning objective and outcome along with anticipated problems with solutions, and complete lesson procedure Only then did I teach my class. After which I was asked to do a self-evaluation first and the next morning I got personal feedback from Vantage’s trainers. I got really great feedback after each practice which was super helpful in my development as a teacher. This was all a bit daunting at first, but after a few ‘rounds’ I got my head around it and it really made a difference in my classes. I got much better with each practice session. The bottom line was that I got my students speaking—a lot. The trainers at Vantage are among of the best teachers I have ever had! They explain and answered every question in detail. More importantly, the really go out of their way to make sure you succeed. I would highly recommend taking the Vantage’s TEFL certification course to anyone who wants a professional level TEFL training program.

Vantage TEFL has been one of the most intensive, yet stimulating courses, that I have ever done. Having said that, the quality of training given at Vantage far exceeded my expectations and I definitely got money’s worth. I was guided, encouraged and sharpened each step of the month-long course. The lead trainer was super conversant and articulate about the different concepts of the English language. He teaches in a workshop style rather than lecturer format. He engages each student in a highly individual way that applies to their way of thinking and their personality. Vantage has its own Jobs Coach who will help you create what he calls a Power Resume. And he coached us on how to be effective in an interview. I came in the week after I graduated and Vantage got me my first interview for the very next day! Finally, Vantage’s staff showed great hospitality in making all the trainees feel very comfortable in getting acclimated to Thai culture and the orientation around their neighborhood revealed that almost everything under the sun was somewhere nearby. The Vantage team are an outstanding team of professionals who really have a passion for what they do. If you want to get starting in teaching, these are the pros to see.

Vantage ran a very thorough and workshop approach to teaching the course book portion of our course. The lead training was amazing. Given his two-plus decades of teaching experience—he’s a wealth of experience—we were able to dig beyond the textbook and have all our questions answered. The discussions we had in class really opened my eyes on the benefits of doing an In-Class course. Vantage is decidedly an intensive course. You’ll have class all day and for 1-2 weeks you may finish at 7:30 PM since on those days you’ll be doing your observed teaching practices. I especially enjoyed the practicum because it reaffirmed my goal to be a professional teacher. The part I found the most challenging was creating the lesson plans. We had to learn how to do this first before even stepping into a classroom. As a student, you think a teacher just shows up, but I’ve learned that’s a lot of crucial preparation that’s done first. Vantage TEFL prepared me to be an adaptable, prepared and successful professional teacher. It was well worth my investment. My plan is to travel and teaching is my ticket, so I want to make sure I’m really good at it. I decided to do Vantage’s Combined Course. As I was traveling through Asia at the time, I could continue my journey while dedicating about 6 to 8 hours a week studying online wherever I happen to be at the time. Then, when I had to do my practice teaching in a real school to real students, I shifted my travel to Bangkok where I spend a couple of weeks completing my practicum while learning why this town is the most visited city on planet earth. Vantage was super cool. Even though my enrollment was for the Combined Class, I was also invited to attend any of their In-Class sessions as well, which was great because their classroom discussions added a dimension to the material that you won’t get from the online section. The hands-on teaching experience was amazing. The trainers have decades of experience of teaching overseas and it shows. I got expert feedback after each session. I really saw myself developing into a professional teacher after each session during my practicum. I also got invaluable knowhow on how to create a successful lesson plan over the six sessions because each class had to be on a different language topic. Once you know how to do a lesson plan of what you’re going to do for an hour with your students, you really gain a sense of confidence before even stepping into the classroom. Vantage trainers Chris and Kevin were super helpful. Chris was always available to answer my questions and give advice on my lesson plans. Kevin helped rewrite my resume and prepared supporting documentation like cover letters as well. He got me my first job offer as I was finishing my course. The Combined course turned out to be as advertised: the best of both worlds. It was perfect for a peripatetic traveler such as myself.

From the get-go, I got great help as I had to change my course schedule due to some sudden and pressing personal issues. Vantage immediately rescheduled my training and already-book accommodation to new dates. The course was great. The grammar explanations gave me a whole new way of looking at what I originally thought was the hardest part of teaching English. The lead trainer had a great way of making boring subjects engaging and relevant. I’ve learned great new ways to cover this with my students. Probably the most rewarding part of the course was practice teaching sessions. This is where I really learned to teach. I completed my Vantage TEFL on a Friday and I signed a comprehensive one year contract on the following Monday. I only had the weekend off! Vantage set up the interview as they have agreements with some of Thailand’s leading teacher placement agencies. The TEFL course itself was fantastic. I acquired the foundational teaching skills I need to be successful in the classroom. One of the best parts of the course were the six hours of observed practice teaching. Learning how to create great lesson plans was the first step. It was my battle plan on how to approach a classroom full of real students. Right from the get-go Vantage’s professionalism and commitment consistently surpassed my expectations in their TEFL training learning course! First off, I needed accommodation for my dog Tagg. He’s a highly trained “service dog” that’s been with me for the past eight years. Vantage pounded the pavement and found a service apartment that would accommodate Tagg and me for the one month course. The course itself detailed teaching techniques and educational theory. However, this was put in all in perspective by their lead trainer, Chris, whose two and a half decades of teaching experience overseas. Our classroom discussions that he led put a lot of what the course book said into proper perspective. The observed teaching practices is where Vantage really excel. They put first things first. Before even entering a classroom, I first had to learn how to make a lesson plan that would successfully meet the learning needs of my students. I had a background teaching refugees in Uganda. There we taught all levels and all ages in a single classroom where the teacher had to adapt to all the students during one session. It was because of this wide range of proficiency levels that I had to understand and cater to that I decided I needed some help and become professional trained. I chose Vantage as they were also an authorized Cambridge English test center and they seemed to have a lot of experience in assessing students. It was a great choice. I learned how to assess any given student’s proficiency level—using the CEFR—and they showed me how to choose my classroom materials specific to the level of students I was teaching. Vantage’s teaching practices were nothing short of phenomenal. We taught professional nurses at a hospital who were intermediate level students. And we also taught beginning students as well which was a completely different experience and required different preparation. We first were shown how to do a proper lesson plan. After a few twists and turns with the Lead trainer, I finally got it right. Then I was shown how to source the proper materials for the language topic I was teaching as well as the English proficiency level of the students. After I delivered the lesson, I was then required to do a self-evaluation of how I thought I did and why. Vantage had a great form for this. Finally, I was debriefed by the Vantage trainers on my performance. I was surprised to learn that I often did better than I thought—my self-evaluations were perhaps too critical. I was then always given a new challenge for the next teaching session. This is a truly great program and a learned so much. I plan to incorporate much of what these guys do in my teaching back home. I’m a far better teacher today than I was just a few months ago. Vantage TEFL…mission accomplished.

Thailand offers a plethora of TEFL programs. I read many of the reviews and contacted my shortlist of schools. Vantage responded immediately with full information on my questions regarding accommodation options, travel, and visa arrangements—everything I wanted to know about TEFL and the ESL industry. Vantage was the one who always got me fast answers to my queries. As a veteran teacher—I have worked in the US education system for two decades—I have work with many different models of teaching methods. The ESA (Engage, Study, and Activate) approach which Vantage implements is very student friendly. Lesson plans were easy to create and could be adapted to the specific needs of my class. Vantage’s lead trainer has 20+ years of experience and it shows. He’s extremely knowledgeable of all aspects of teaching languages. Lastly, I’d like to give a shout out about the local accommodations. The recommended service apartment is located in a great area bordered by wonderful cafes, fantastic food markets, shopping malls, movie theaters—all within a 10-15 minute walking distance. My TEFL experience helped me see the endless possible opportunities of teaching English abroad. It also renewed my excitement about education. Vantage absolutely receives my highest recommendation for TEFL certification.

I almost did an online-only TEFL and boy that would have been a mistake. I can’t see how one can become a real pro without stepping in a classroom. I first learned how to create an efficient lesson plan so I could successfully deliver to a class of non-English speaking students. Each plan I made was first reviewed by the lead trainer so I got great input before I even stepped a foot into the classroom. I had to include such things as my teaching aims, the learner objectives and discuss any anticipated problems with potential solutions, as well as a complete lesson procedure. Whew! As daunting as this was in the beginning, with each subsequent lesson plan I seem to get better and faster so that by the end I pretty much had this part of the ‘art’ down. Then to the classroom. The observed teaching practice was extremely developmental and this is where I really acquired my teaching skills. I found myself improving with every class particularly from the excellent feedback provided by the course instructors. In addition to critiquing my last performance, I was always given a challenge to incorporate in my next teaching session. The bottom lines is that I’m a far better teacher now. I am confident that the knowledge I’ve learned and the skills I have formed in this course will stay with me throughout my teaching career. If I hadn’t done Vantage’s TEFL in-class training. I really wouldn’t have known how to plan and successfully deliver an English class. I probably would have burned out after six months or so. But that didn’t happen. I’m ready to hit the classroom!

I did the Combined Course. This is a hybrid course where you do the curriculum online and then do your practice teaching in the afternoons/evenings. The teaching practices were outstanding. I had to do six lesson plans—each one on a separate language topic. I got great feedback from Vantage’s trainers on each plan before I stepped into the classroom. This alone made me more than confident my class would be successful. It was highly rewarding to execute my lesson plans see a real classroom application of my training. I was then ‘debriefed’ by my trainers on my teaching performance—what went right and a ‘challenge’ for me to implement in my next teaching session. Vantage claims that teachers are born in the classroom and they are so right. Yes, I learned a lot of knowledge on the online part of the course, but it was only by really teaching in a live classroom that this new knowledge was converted teaching skills. The combined course was best for me as I was working full time and could only afford two weeks to do the practice teaching. However, by combining the book work online, I felt I got the best of both worlds. The Vantage team are suburb trainers. They have decades of English teaching experience and it really shows particularly when you’re getting feedback on your first teaching practices. I would have no hesitation in pointing to Vantage to those considering a TEFL qualification. The practical exposure offered in a course like this offers an unparalleled experience to any solely online class.

I’m a native French speaking who’s also highly proficient in English. While I initially took my TEFL to become certified to teach English, I was pleasantly surprised that the key ESA methodology (Engage-Study-Activate) they taught could also used to teach French. This was what we used in all our practice teaching methods and this method stresses flexibility and the use of elicitation and stress student engagement in the first part of the class. The ESA places more emphasis on student-led grammar discovery, eliciting the grammar from students rather than giving a detailed (and often boring!) teacher-led presentation. And while the grammar obviously changes from language to language, the fundamental way of having a student acquire their second language is remarkably similar. In discussions I had with the Vantage trainers I was surprised to learn that they had other others students using the ESA approach. One graduate teaches Mandarin and they even had one trainee apply for an English teaching position to be hired as a science teacher. He did his on-the-spot demo class using the ESA. The Vantage instructors and staff were highly professional and, importantly, had a great sense of humor. The lead trainer has decades of classroom experience and his practical advice of what to expect and do in the classroom went far beyond the course book. Vantage has a Jobs Coach and he trained us in resume writing and interviewing techniques. I worked with him on creating my own Power Resume and other job supporting materials like cover letters and thank you notes. An extremely professional team where I developed the skill set to teach two languages.

I already had experience and even success as a teacher. However, I felt I could be even better in the classroom if I learned the best teaching practices for language teaching. After doing a lot of research, I chose Vantage as it has American university certification at a Master’s degree level. Though both approaches are very similar, ESA is a more effective technique than what I had had been teaching with beforehand. I felt I was really developing teaching skills after each class. I’m more than happy with my Vantage experience. I attained world-class teaching certification from an internationally recognized school. As a result of Vantages professional training, time-proven techniques, and expertise in job placement, I already had a full-time teaching job only days after finishing the course. I can’t imagine a more satisfying experience.

I was getting a ton of information I needed from Vantage--even before I left the States--to get me to Thailand and smoothly started in the course. The heart of the course is the six observed teacher lessons. This is why I stayed away from online-only TELF providers. Vantage prepared me first. I would never have been able to get in front of a class without the experiences of the first week of the course, which included teaching method presentation and practice peer teaching. My actual practicum—teaching to non-English began in the second week of training. The feedback I got after each class was great and instrumental in my development as a teacher. I was already TEFL qualified and I’m an experienced teacher. What I needed was to observe a top-notch TEFL training course so I too could become an effective full-time TEFL at the center where I work. Vantage came highly recommended by TEFL international who certify some 30+ training centers around the world. That endorsement was also supported by the fact that it’s the top-rated program in Thailand according to the major review sites like this one. The first difference I observed was Vantage’s workshop style of presentation—instead of the lecture approach. This encouraged a lot more discussion with the students. The lead trainer also shared his decades of experience throughout each unit. The bottom line was the class ended up learning a lot more than just the course book. Vantage emphasizes teaching with the ESA teaching methodology (engage, study and activate) where there is more emphasis on student-led language discovery, eliciting the grammar and vocabulary from students rather than giving typical boring teacher-led presentations. Under the ESA, students learn how to communicate successfully without fear of mistakes. I learned a ton at Vantage. The trainers are truly world-class. This is a great program and I hope to incorporate a lot of what I’ve learned into my future TEFL classes.

This is among the most interesting—and more practical—courses I’ve ever taken. The course led me to acquire new teaching skills to be successful in the classroom. I learn how to formulate a viable lesson plan and the how to successfully deliver it in any classroom. My observed practice teaching sessions was where my new knowledge was turned into skills that I could use. I was super nervous at first and I thought I could never do this. By my last session I felt supremely confident.. Where Vantage really stand out is in their quality of their trainers. They are incredible in terms of knowledge and, with decades of teaching experience, they guide trainees every step of the way. You couldn’t ask for anything more. I wanted a TEFL course near where I live in Thailand’s Eastern seaboard. However. TEFL accreditation was a key issue for me so I chose Vantage as it’s accredited by two universities. The fact the both their University’s offered Master’s level credits was another consideration as I may decide to pursue a Master’s down the road. I had taught English before but without much success. That’s when I realized I needed to be professionally trained. I wanted to learn how to teach successfully in a classroom. Vantage’s course was extremely informative. The lead trainer made the grammar easy to understand and he taught it systematically. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all our questions. For me, it was the observed teaching that was the heart of my training. I found that my new knowledge was fused into real teaching skills. After each practice session, I got valuable feedback from the trainers, which helped me to improve my teaching skills almost on a daily basis. In addition to the course curriculum, I also found the supplements developed by Vantage extremely useful and very important—particularly the materials on resume writing and job interviews. I’m so glad I choose Vantage to do my TEFL. Their TFLF curriculum is comprehensive and very well written. They’ve also created some special supplementary material that covers emerging new teaching technologies and assessment techniques that most TEFL coursed don’t even cover. Of course and the program is only as good as its trainers. Here is where Vantage really stands out. The course was brilliantly delivered. Their Lead Trainer Chris delivered dry content in a highly engaging way. I know personally as I’m an experienced teacher who has done some 20 + years of corporate training. I was surprised by the many new teaching techniques I learned from this courses. They also have a specialized Jobs Coach. This added part of the course focused on resume writing and interviewing techniques classes. These are highly unappreciated tools for launching a career as a professional teacher and everyone was surprised at the job offers they were getting. They also have what they call their ‘definitive lists’ for a lot of different types of employers from the Top 100 Thai private and public schools, to private language academies, to universities, to demonstration schools…even online teaching and they even have an agreement with a major Chinese institute for those who want teach there. Again, I couldn’t be happier. So much so that I’m signing up my daughter for an upcoming Vantage TEFL course so she can improve her English language skills.

First things first. With me, there was a high level of patience as they answered a ton of questions over many emails. They helped me find accommodation on my strict budget—giving me different options. They helped me arrange bus and train connections. They even let my young daughter come with me to the school for the first week, as her sports camp started a week later than TEFL course. One by one, they solved all my problems so I could enroll in the course and fulfill my dreams of teaching English overseas. The course itself was great. I thought much of the curriculum and grammar review would be boring and, even though it was a lot of work, I was so engaged that I really enjoyed every minute. I really learned how to teach during my practice sessions. This is where the knowledge I learned became (over time) teaching skill. A key part of the process was the excellent feedback I got from my trainers who helped me improve over each of my seven teaching sessions. It didn’t hurt that the teaching environment was superb. Thai students are so polite and attentive. They are a joy to teach. Vantage provided an excellent primer about Thai culture as well as basic Thai language expressions. I also sat with their Jobs Coach and created my own individual resume, cover letter and I got an ocean of support as far as finding a teaching job. If you want to become a professional English teacher, these are your guys.

I was working fulltime so I couldn’t take the time off to do a month-long course. Instead, I did the Combined Course, which is half online and half actual teaching in a classroom. The first part is the online completion of 20 units of the course curriculum as well as doing one lesson plan. I then traveled to Thailand to do my observed teaching practices over a ten-day period. This is where I taught in front of non-English speaking students in a real classroom setting. Importantly I got detailed feedback from Vantage’s trainers for each session I taught. Each of my six teaching practices had to on a different language topic. I also had to develop a separate language plan for each session that I got invaluable feedback on before I stepped into the classroom. While I did have to get on approved in the online portion of the Combined Course, it was getting this six approved by Vantage that really honed my talents. This part of my course—the practicum as Vantage call it—was invaluable. While I had a lot of knowledge from the doing the course book online, it was really the real teaching where I developed the skills to be successful in a classroom. It was also fun in that Thai students are great to teach as they are attentive and are very polite. I just wish that I had done the In-Class Course rather than the online version. After sitting in on some of Vantage’s lessons, I realize how much I missed by doing the book part on my own.

This course made me realize how I previously taught— I had been a computer science teacher in Thai schools up to this point—was not very effective. While we reviewed a number of teaching methodologies, the ESA (engage-study-activate) method I taught with at Vantage really showed me how to deliver a language topic to a classroom of non-English speakers. The Vantage trainers motivated us through each stage of our training. They made the curriculum easy to understand…they walked us through making lesson plans…giving feedback each step of the way. Vantage was also unique in their observed practice teaching sessions. We taught real nursing students at one of Thailand’s most prestigious medical colleges. I’m a native English speaker who’s fluent in Thai and I wanted, in my own small way, to make a difference in the lives of young Thai students. I wanted to give them the skills they would need later in life in a more competitive and global marketplace. And having a good level of English is one skill that they will undoubtedly need. I also realized that to make that happen and to be as effective as I could be in the classroom and had to learn how to teach. Up to this point, my knowledge of ‘education’ was the years I spent observing on the other side of the desk as a student. Vantage was just the ticket for me. I was taught to create lessons through the communicative approach. The teaching training curriculum breaks this all down into six key areas of study from language awareness, to teaching materials, one-to-one tutoring to teaching techniques. For me, however, creating full-blown professionals is done in the classroom through the observed teaching practices. Here theory meets practice. I grew after each teaching session as I got detailed feedback from the Vantage trainers. They highlighted what I did well in my lasts class and gave me a new challenge for my next session…areas that still need to be worked on. My confidence grew daily. After six observed teaching practices, I was ready to begin fulfilling my aspirations. The trainers at Vantage are world class. They have decades of experience. They experts in many areas of education such as testing through their years of working as a Cambridge exam centre. They know how to use language proficiency systems to test students and to source teaching material appropriate to the level of the students were teaching. I’m a non-native English speaker (NNES), so I was more than a little worried about my new career choice—particularly when so many English teacher jobs ads scream “native speaker only.” On top of that, I had no previous teaching experience. My concerns led me to Vantage. In a lot of their reviews—and even their online videos—NNES’s were talking about the advantages of not being a native speaker of English. I knew there and then that these were the trainers for me. First I had to learn how to teach. Here Vantage first built a strong and solid foundation. I learned how to create effective lesson plans. Each plan was reviewed by the trainers and the feedback led (eventually) to a really great plan to approach a language lesson. Then during my observed practice teaching classes, the theory I learn in the TEFL course met the practical demands of my students. The detailed feedback I got after each lesson made me even better after each session and gave me even more confidence. My confidence as a teacher really grew during these practice teaching sessions. By the sixth practice, I felt I was ready to teach anyone anywhere. Vantage was also absolutely fantastic in their job preparation. During my last week, we created my own personal Power Resume with a Cover Letter. I was then coached in effective interview techniques. Something must have worked. I got hired the Monday after my Friday graduation. They wanted me to start immediately!

Vantage comes highly recommended if your goal is to become a highly professional teacher Traveling throughout Thailand, I got interested in teaching English after visiting some remote schools and giving a couple of English lessons. I really enjoyed teaching the kids for a few hours but I quickly realized I didn’t really know what I was doing. So I began researching TEFL courses so I could get properly trained. My research led me to Vantage TEFL—mostly through their very detailed reviews online. Vantage, unlike many other TEFL programs, has its teacher candidates do at least six hours of practical teaching in a live classroom in front of actual non-English speaking students. It starts with lesson planning. The process of creating effective lesson plans—and getting professional feedback on those—was a huge factor in giving me the confidence that I was ready to step into a classroom. Their lead trainer has over 20 years of teaching experience. And they guide you each step of the way. These guys are truly great! They’ll answer your questions not only throughout the course but after you graduate too. We built my personal Power Resume after I completed the course. They taught me how to my past work can be used—they call it transferable skills—to build a career in teaching.

For one month, I learned something new about teaching in every class session. And yes this class is intensive but I was guided every step of the way. The lead trainer was excellent and always available for any help. The way he taught each unit was very effective. He has over twenty years of classroom and materials development experience, so the training discussions typically illuminate and go beyond the standard course book. While teaching theory and methodologies are very important, it’s the observed teaching practices—where theory meets the reality of the classroom—that you really learn to teach. After each observed teaching practice, I was given extensive feedback from the trainers that really helped me realize where I was strong and challenged me in other areas which still needed more development. Vantage also has a separate “Jobs Coach” trainer who showed me how to create my own Power Resume. We actually sat down and did that one-on-one as the course concluded. We also developed Cover Letters and other job support materials. I would also highly recommend taking this course to anyone who is serious about a career teaching English. You will leave with the requisite teaching skills—ready to successfully teach English in any classroom.

I was more than curious to see how learning to be an English teacher could all be boiled down to a one month course. The classes that teach functional teaching techniques—like methodologies and grammar--are also broken up into small, easy to digest, portions that provide the students with a format that is easy to learn, reproduce, and perform. However, the heart and soul of the program—at least in terms of me becoming a professional teacher—are the observed teaching practices. What I learned in Vantage’s classes, I now had to apply to a real classroom of non-English speaking students. Yes, I understood what was covered in the course materials, but I now wanted to create positive and effective teaching habits sd I could, in effect, doing the correct techniques without thinking about it. The feedback I got from each class was invaluable and was a huge factor in the development of my confidence as a teacher. It didn’t hurt that the Thai students we had were incredibly polite and were a joy to teach. I also got great pre-course info to help me get settled in Bangkok by providing practical and specific information as to where to stay, how to get to class, where to shop and to do everyday routine chores. The Vantage team has a wealth of knowledge in helping students understand the many job opportunities available in Thailand and in Southeast Asia. I highly recommend this course for those serious about a career in the English teaching industry.

Before I started Vantage TEFL course, I spent a lot of time researching on TEFL courses and I made the decision that a face to face course would be far more beneficial, as there is a practical teaching component to the course. For me, it had to be internationally recognized and accredited by a reputable educational Institution. Secondly, they had to have to have a minimum of six hours of actual teaching practice. Thirdly, the trainers not only had to meet, but exceed stringent academic requirements for teaching TEFL. Having Cambridge University accreditation and backed by Fort Hays State University, met that Vantage certainly met all the criteria. Was I prepared for the challenge Vantage would put me through? Yes, but this course pushed me beyond my comfort zone on occasion. The lead trainer Chris was always there to encourage and help us. As a trainer, you would be hard to find someone any better. He has 25+ years of experience, strong industry knowledge and he always goes the extra mile with every aspect of the training. He will do everything in his power to ensure that you are prepared and confident teaching English. Teaching a language is much more about getting the students to speak—and motivating them to do the work. I now feel 100% confident I can enter any classroom and successfully teach English!

I found, during my hospital residency just after medical school, that the part I enjoyed the most was educating my patients about healthy lifestyle options and medical treatments regimens. So I took a TEFL in order to really try out the teaching profession. Before, most of my schooling had been based in sciences and not the arts which is where I would have previously classified languages. I was surprised to find both theory and methodologies of teaching languages were much more evidence-based than I originally thought. Particularly during my observed practice teaching sessions—teaching in a live classroom—I got to try all my newly learned techniques out on non-English speaking students. This is where art met science. Their emphasis is what works in the classroom Vantage’s trainers gave me invaluable feedback. The trainers are incredibly friendly and eager to help you succeed. They are quite knowledgeable but have a levity which helps your learning. They also have a local industry knowledge which is great if you’re looking for work in Thailand, China or elsewhere in Asia. They have a specialized Jobs Coach who will both plug you into their network of schools, but you will first develop your Power Resume and supporting job documentation materials. This was particularly helpful in my case as my goal is to teach science in English in Asia. Overall, the course was a fantastic experience. I’m now ready to teach anywhere anytime. I would highly recommend Vantage if you wish to become a professional teacher.

I was nervous about doing a TEFL course because as a Thai, I was the same nationality as my students. And in Thailand, being a non-native speaker is a big advantage Vantage made me think about this differently. They made me appreciate that, as a non-native speaker, I brought advantages to the classroom. They told me that the process of learning a second language—something native English speakers rarely do—was very helpful in motivating students in second language acquisition. In fact, I found I become a role model for many of my Thai students. After class and they came up and told me that they didn’t really believe they could ever speak English like their American teachers. The fact that I’ve mastered English give them encouragement to keep trying. Vantage’s TEFL program was truly first class. I developed my teaching style each step of the way during my practice sessions. I got great feedback after each class. I was challenged to incorporate something new into my next teaching session. As I grew more confident after each practice session, I became more competent in the classroom. I couldn’t have done this without these guys!. They have small class sizes so we all got a very personal level of attention. Their lead trainer and he has a wide-ranging experience in teaching English and in creating teaching materials. He took a strong personal interest to see how I was developing into a professional teacher. Yes this course was intensive, but it was always engaging, and interesting.

I wanted to bring my extensive background in risk management and corporate law into business English training. In one of the companies I worked for—a Japanese corporation—I was the attorney and sat on the Executive Committee that was broadly half American and half Japanese. It was during this time, that I realized there was a real need for non-native speakers needed a batter understanding and grasp of legal issues that arose when there company was working internationally. This was my key motivation to go back and learn how the methodologies and techniques to present language topics. My future students will need to address legal issues in English as they market products and operate in a global market. Vantage’s course was the missing link. They gave me the tools I needed as I have learned a lot about the techniques in teaching a second language.. The feedback we got from the trainers from our teaching practices was always focused on how we could be better in our next observed session. They had a way of presenting weakness as challenges and I could see how both I and the other trainees got a lot better as the practicum went on. This was for me one fo the most important parts of the class. The sessions we did about language proficiency were eye-opening. This was something I really hadn’t considered before. We learned how to ascertain the language proficiency level of an individual student and then create lesson plans that were tailored to the English level of that individual student. This course has made me a complete teacher

I hold a degree in child development and about 10 years teaching experience—mostly in the USA. So I was pretty skeptical that this course would be useful for me. Given my pessimistic view, I was surprised at how challenging Vantage’s course would be. For starters, the instructor was excellent. He was well-versed in what he was teaching and his insight and ideas that were a great guide to developing better techniques for good teaching. He was always available for questions or help. Our observed teacher practices at the college were the heart and soul of the course. The instructor was there to observe, offering excellent feedback. He was great at giving input, using constructive criticisms in a way so as to inspire and not offend. He also always left us with a challenge for our net teaching practice. The course also did a great job guiding us into making a good lesson plan. We learned how to carry them out and got valuable feedback from the lead trainer. A lot of time was spent focusing on lesson planning. I was particularly bad at lesson planning and I learned quite a bit from this. After I completed the course, the Jobs Coach worked with me one-on-one. We crafted my own Power Resume and Cover Letter that was targeted to the educational market segment I was focusing on. I was quite impressed by this resume and his advice on how to make resumes that employers like and will get your foot-in-the-door. Last, but not least, they offer an abundance of resources on their website to places that you can get materials (workbooks, textbooks, teaching aids, etc), job placement websites, school organizations, etc. Overall, I would highly recommend this TESOL certification school. You will certainly get your money’s worth. If there were any point of criticism I would have, I would have liked there to be more resources readily available for teachers who plan on teaching younger children. Vantage receives my top marks.

As a native Russian speaker, I had my doubts about passing this class. I was worried my English was not good enough. I was also concerned I’d be the youngest student in the class of experienced instructors. So I spent a lot of time researching on teachers’ training course programs trying to find the best fit for me. Vantage had one of the more serious websites and that was a key attraction. And I also got immediate replies to all my questions—and there were a lot of them. I figured that if that had this much time for me before I enrolled, they’d give me extra attention and really take care of me as a student. That was exactly the case. Having said that, I didn’t expect the course would be as hard as it was. Vantage TEFL course is intensive, so you most likely be a little exhausted during the class, but in a creative and good way. You’ll learn a lot of very important teaching techniques and methodologies like planning lessons, managing classes, eliciting target language and teaching aids. Vantage’s trainers guided me at every stage. Almost every day I really saw myself growing as a teacher. At my previous school, I was a teacher of both English and Mandarin. The teaching techniques I learned here—although taught within an English context—will be great when I teach Chinese as well. I would like to thank Chris, for being both an extraordinary teacher and mentor. Thank you for your patience and feedback you gave me. Also, the classes on creating your own “Power Resume” as well as the job interview techniques sessions were super helpful as I had no I idea about this as I’ve never studied anything on this before. My TEFL experience is a course I will never forget. I wanted to explore abroad and the opportunity to teach English was something I learned from friends at university. However, coming to a country with so many people from my cozy New Zealand seemed like I was biting off more than I could chew. Vantage immediately put me to rest. The course director was super helpful in the weeks leading up to my TEFL studies. I was provided with very useful information regarding visas, accommodation, transport—everything I needed to know to get settled in Bangkok and complete the course. On the first day, we met Chris, our trainer. We bonded with our peers and the dove straight into teaching theory. I was the youngest in the class ), but we were all treated as equals as we were all in the same situation—training to be professional English teachers and finding out what that really meant. The course wasn’t a piece of cake—a lot of work needed to be done but they provided more than enough resources and support for the tasks to be completed to the highest standard. Due to Vantage’s relatively small class sizes, it was very personal and any queries were answered instantly. The trainers had a lot of time for each of us. I truly loved teaching at the nursing college—where we did our observed teaching practices. It was a wonderful learning experience. Observations from the trainers and our peers helped us improve after each practice lesson. I particularly found this part of the course the most important component in my development of a teacher. I couldn’t imagine doing an online-only TEFL and missing what they call the practicum. Vantage encouraged me to reach my full potential. They really built my confidence. They truly go out of their way to give their students the very best preparation to teach English and become great teachers. I feel ready and able to teach English. There are too many TEFL courses in Thailand to choose from. I read many reviews. Far too many outlined how I could have a Thai holiday while studying to be a teacher. I didn’t have much confidence if they weren’t really talking about the inner workings of the TEFL course itself. My bottom line was that I wanted to become a professional teacher. I’m pretty sure the beaches would still be there after I completed my training. After my initial internet phase, I decided to actually visit a short list of schools to see them running their TEFL in action. That really help separate the wheat from the chaff. Secondly, the program I choose had to be internationally recognized and accredited by a reputable educational Institution. I learned early that Thailand’s Ministry of Education doesn’t accredit or license any specific TELF program so programs that said only this lost ranking points. Secondly, they had to have at least 6 hours of actual observed teaching practice. Thirdly, the trainers had to meet, but exceed stringent academic requirements for teaching ESL. You’d be surprised how many provider websites don’t even tell you who—and how qualified—their trainers are. Finally, we found a TEFL course that met all of the above requirements—Vantage. Our class size was relatively small so we received a very high level of personalized. The Lead Trainer has an extensive background in teaching English and in developing course curriculums and their teaching materials. He really went out of his way to see how was developing into a professional teacher. I was complimented on where I had done well. And given a ‘challenge’ to areas I was still weak. The approach led me to become better in every observed teaching practice I did. Importantly—as this course is intensive—he has a great sense of humor which makes the class engaging, interesting, and most of all—fun. The other trainers were just as skilled and proficient. We learned how to format a "power resume" from Vantage’s Jobs Coach and how to make a resume stand out in a 10-second scan. We also “sat on the other side of the desk” as we had a Foreign Language Trainer that focused on some basic conversation of the Thai as well as some of the important cultural norms. Besides receiving a detailed education on lesson plans, grammar review, and classroom management, I felt that Vantage has provided us the necessary tools and a solid foundation to begin teaching. We got a world-class teacher training program with an American accreditation at Vantage. I certainly feel that I made the right choice.

I worked for a diversified corporate financial services and insurance company for the past decade. So I had a very good and secure job. However, in my heart, I knew I wanted to teach. But I was more than reluctant to resign and move to Thailand to complete my TEFL course and start over with a new life as a teacher. So I emailed Kevin, the course director, with all my concerns regarding their institute and what they had to offer. He was very professional and explained that the course will be very intensive, but rewarding at the end. This was the place teachers were born, he assured me. I can now design a lesson plan, worksheets, flashcards, games and power-point presentation. Vantage’s course also covered how technology is becoming a big part of our teaching and I’m now able to use stuff like an LMS (a Learning Management System). I got a lot of one-on-one job help—like building my resume and cover letters—after my course was completed. I had googled up a number of other TEFL courses before choosing Vantage. Far too many were telling me about riding an elephant or lying on a beach and not all that focused on telling me how I could learn to teach properly. Vantage was exactly what I was looking for. An intensive course that pushes you out of your comfort zone and brings out the very best of you. If you are looking for and non-taxing TEFL course, having a I tropical holiday for a month and get your certificate at the end, this is probably not your place. However, if you’re serious about actually wanting to learn how to teach properly, Vantage has exceeded my expectations in every way. Before the course, I had a long list of personal concerns that I seriously thought would hold me back—some of which I thought might be insurmountable. I thought I was too young, I thought I wasn't boisterous enough, wasn't qualified enough…the list goes on. Yet Vantage dealt with every one of my concerns in ways that I would have never thought of. The Vantage class sizes are small so I got a lot of personal attention. What really blew me away was how determined the trainers were to go above and beyond—putting everything into the delivery of the course. These guys are motivated much more by their desire to do the best job they can rather than the financial compensation they receive for doing so. I would recommend Vantage to anyone who really wants to learn how to teach. These trainers are pros!h

I’ve taught for 15 + years abroad in places like China, Turkey, and Korea. I consider myself to be a highly competent teacher who felt very confident in the classroom. Nonetheless, something I wanted to add to my range of teaching skills—not just for the qualification—but also to know how the latest digital technologies and new teaching methodologies have been impacting second language acquisition. This course far exceeded my expectations. There are many strengths to Vantage’s TEFL certification program: the professionalism and the knowledge of the instructors, the genuine interest they take in the development of the competency and abilities of their trainees, and their TEFL curriculum which had the right amount and sequencing of the course materials they covered. We also covered some supplementary material on student assessment and eLearning platforms, which was pretty much new material for me. Another great aspect of this program was the class size. Some of the TEFL programs I researched had 15 or even 20 students in a course. Large classes always involve much more management and less actual classroom instruction. Vantage smaller class sizes struck a much better balance between the two—particularly as it helped us bond as a group. We did our practicum (the observed teaching practices), at a Thai college with Thai undergraduate students. This too was great as our students were too old to be kids but too young to be proper adults. And as their tuition is sponsored in diverse ways by both local and national governmental organizations, I found them to be particularly diligent students. I would recommend Vantage’s program without reservation to any prospective teacher looking for a career in the education sector or even an experienced teacher who wants to update outdated skills.

This program gave me the self-confidence and all the right tools to overcome my weakness in becoming a good teacher.I was a little concerned about teaching English is not my native language and the idea that this could be a problem followed me all along the first week of my training. The school environment was really nice and the training team was highly professional. I always felt great during all the classes, but it was the professionalism of my TEFL trainer that was the was the most important element that turned my initial reluctance about teaching English into strong self-confidence. For me, this was the key to completing this course successfully. Throughout the lessons and with the aid of all the course materials in Vantage’s curriculum, I had the chance not just to study and learn but to improve my teaching skills through planned practice and expert feedback. We had 6 hours of observed teaching in an accredited college—non-English speaking students—that made a huge difference in knowing what to do and what to avoid. For me, this real live classroom experience was the key ingredient in learning how to teach. Today I feel proud to be able to teach English.

One thing that really appealed to me was the small size of Vantage’s TEFL courses. Their website advertised there would be no more than 8 trainees on my course and that certainly was the case for my class. We all got the individual attention we needed—and then some—as we analyzed our own and each other’s teaching in a productive and meaningful way. I was very apprehensive as I started this course with no prior teaching experience. I wasn’t good at speaking in front of people and am generally a shy person. Nonetheless, this course gave me the skills I needed to confidently teach a lesson. I learned through trial and error that language teaching is more about motivating your students to speak. And it’s not about being able to deliver a lecture or presentation. Their lead trainer Chris taught me how to structure, plan, and execute a great lesson and then how to keep the attention and interest of a class, which made for highly motivated students. I had some great experiences during our observed practice teaching sessions. Without the 6 hours of “practicum” teaching we were required to do, I don’t think I would feel half as confident as I do now about becoming a professional teacher. At first, I was very nervous, and the first lesson or two were discouraging, but by the sixth lesson I felt much more confident and knew what to expect from the class and from myself. The feedback from Chris and from my classmates was invaluable as it encouraged me to develop the teacher I knew I had within me. For me, facing a classroom was very hard at first, and there was a lot of work to stay on top of, but it’s all part of the intensive and immersive experience that Vantage provides. Now I can’t wait to get back into a classroom and teach! I also got a mountain of help from Kevin, their Jobs Coach. He sat with me one-on-one was we developed what he calls a Power Resume. We also made a video and cover letter and then he helped me navigate the job market. What was cool was that he did this the week after the TEFL course was over. Overall, the course was challenging, engaging, and highly rewarding. But you’ll need to be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone, and you will have some rewarding experiences. Facing a classroom was very hard at first, and there was a lot of work to stay on top of, but its all part of the intensive and immersive experience that Vantage provides.

When I did my TEFL, I was already teaching kindergarten in Burma. I already had a lot of experience teaching kids in an English speaking environment in a real classroom. But while I was an experienced teacher, I felt I needed more of a grounding in teaching languages—specifically English as a second language. I thought this would make me a more rounded teacher. I was right. I gained a lot from Vantage’s TEFL course as I have learned about the methodologies and techniques in teaching English a second language. Vantage’s TEFL program was comprehensive. It delivered everything it said it would and it offered much more. They are also a Cambridge test center, so we also studied about how to assess a student’s English proficiency levels, the CEFR and the testing methods with which to do this. They gave me new tools that were invaluable in understanding how diverse students deal with their second language acquisition. I’ve since discovered this isn’t really covered in other TEFL courses. This course is intensive. You’ll be more than busy for the four weeks, but at the same time, even for an experienced teacher like me. I felt like I learned a tremendous amount. The entire Vantage training team was really helpful and they really put my needs and interest first. I would highly recommend Vantage to anyone who wants to become a professional teacher

My qualifications and experience were in engineering, so I was worried about the success in changing careers. Added to this I was concerned that my status as a non-native English speaker would make becoming a teaching almost impossible. On top of that Vantage’s course was intensive. Each night I had a lot of reading to do. Having said that, the course material was invaluable. I was taught both theories and techniques on teaching. But it was only when I really taught in a real live classroom—under the direction and observation of Lead Trainer Chris—that I really grew confident in my ability to teach. Vantage also has their own specialist Jobs Coach. Kevin taught me to speak ‘skills’ to the marketplace. And to then reposition those skill to the teaching profession. So when I told them I was a champion debater in school they taught me to position those debating skills and emphasized how I could both motivate and coach my students’ in their second language acquisition. Something must have worked. I actually found my first English teaching job working part-time teaching kids during my last week of the course. Then within a month after graduation, I got two offers, both offering a year-long contract with a Thai Work Permit. I don’t know if I couldn’t have done this if I didn’t have the support and training I got from the Vantage team.

Vantage first taught us to develop an effective lesson plan. Then the lead trainer would give each trainee a private consultation on their plan before they stepped into the classroom. At first, I had to make a number of revisions, but after a week or so I got this down pretty well. The feedback I got after each practice class really help me determine how good my lesson plan was. And the feedback on my teaching was priceless. It helped me immeasurably in my development as a professional teacher. Vantage really excels in job preparation. We had separate Jobs Coach who showed us how to develop a Power Resume. He also trained us in effective interviewing techniques like how to detail our past successes to a new situation. With his guidance, we crafted a great resume cover letters that showcased my skills. We also produced a video how I could be an asset to my future students in any institution. I had a number of offers in the first few weeks after graduation even from schools who said they only wanted native speakers. The bottom line was that Vantage’s program was a great facilitator in making my successful career change. They are a highly coordinated and professional team. I would recommend Vantage without hesitation.

First and foremost and I wanted a reputable TEFL program with an international accreditation. In doing research on which TEFL I wanted to do in Thailand, I was a bit surprised that far too many courses gave a lot of information about the touristic interests in their area, but not so much information on the actual TEFL course itself like its teaching methodologies. Looking at Vantage TEFL’s website, I discovered the key areas of study within my TEFL course and the teaching methodologies. They also had very good information on the English Teaching Industry—such as the demand for English teachers—as well as the future trends within the ESL industry. I also liked the webpage on Careers within ESL good to explore potential career paths that led from teaching. The actual course was even better. There was a great deal of information to cover, but the trainers were always there and always supportive. It was intensive but engaging and always interesting. The course book and supplementary materials were very comprehensive. I intend to keep my copy for a valuable reference during my teaching career. Even if you’re not quite sure about being an English teacher this course is very worthwhile as the resume writing and interview techniques we covered were also highly professional. If you are a non-native speaker, as I am, they give you a lot of tips on how to succeed in interviews—particularly those that advertise for native speakers only. I like to thank the Vantage training team for such an incredible experience at Vantage. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone looking for a world class TEFL training course.

I first tried teaching English to a class of young students through a volunteer program in Cambodia. I was given no formal training. I just was left to my own devices and ‘wing it’ in the classroom. But I found I loved teaching, I loved making a difference in student’s lives. I also knew that if I wanted to become a professional teacher and really good at what I was teaching that I would need formal training to do it to the best of my abilities. Vantage’s TEFL course was taught by Chris who is an outstanding teacher who cares a tremendously about his students. That’s a quality that’s not easy to find today. The 4-week course is intensive given the teaching theory and methodology you’ll study , the lesson planning, your observed teaching practice and exams. And finally the portfolio you will need to build. Chris guides you through all this step-by-step and you’ll have a lot of fun throughout the process. He gave me a ton of constructive feedback after each of my observed teaching practices, I improve significantly with every new lesson I taught. On the jobs front, they have a separate trainer. Kevin is their “Jobs Coach. He works with you developing what they call a Power Resume. Something must have worked because previously I had sent my old resume out to several companies before and didn’t get a single response. After sending out my new Vantage-style Power Resume, I was literally contacted by every single school I solicited. Bottom line: if you are serious about a professional career as an English teacher, take your TEFL here. These guys are highly experienced and know what they’re doing in spades.

All I knew was that I really wanted to teach, but didn’t know how to actually do that—other than what I remember in my schools days. At first, I assumed that the course would be pretty uncomplicated, not take too much time, and not be too difficult. I was dead wrong. I had to relearn a lot of grammar. And I was taught and tested on phonetics. I still a bit surprised I got through all that. My observed practice teaching sessions are where I really honed my teaching craft. I was encouraged to use skills and training techniques I used in previous jobs—adapted for second language teaching. I got a ton of great feedback from the trainers—and my co-trainees--that made a big difference in my next class. Nothing about the course was easy. It was a lot of work. But it was great fun at the same time. Throughout the entire course, I was taken out of my comfort zone, but the bottom line is I now can successfully teach. I’m now completely confident that I can walk into a classroom anywhere and teach anyone English. Even after the course was finished, Vantage gave me a lot of personal help. This course was excellent and the Vantage instructors and staff were professional and always engaging. Chris, the lead instructor was highly knowledgeable in the grammar review He gave one to one help with lesson plans as well as offered helpful feedback for the teaching practicum. He has some real-world insights and practical “what to expect” for teaching for Business English with corporate clients, private tutoring, and teaching at Thai schools. Overall, Chris was highly professional, helpful and dedicated to getting your best work out of you. Kevin, their Jobs Coach presented some great overviews on Cambridge testing for language levels. Ryan is their foreign language specialist and he taught introductory classes on Thai language and Thai culture workplace do’s and don’ts. I highly recommend the TEFL certification offered at Vantage. The course content was excellent and the teaching practicum at the Nurses' College was great in that gives you valuable classroom experience.

I wanted an international accreditation for my TEFL, and the American University Accreditation from Fort Hays State University in Kansas was an important consideration in selecting Vantage for my TEFL training. Vantage’s TELF course was great. The course itself was intensive. We were given an entire course book and additional supplementary materials to get through in just one month! The observed teaching practices we did with university students was heart of the training. Yes, the teaching theories and methodologies are important, but you develop your own professional style only when you stand in front of real live students and start practicing your own teaching techniques. After each observed teaching session, I got extremely valuable feedback from the TEFL trainers. They would also present us a challenge to tackle for the next upcoming teaching session. They wanted to see more than just a single good teacher performance. We were being coached for overall growth in each and every individual session as the practicum went on. I also had to take detailed notes as I observed my fellow co-trainees teach. I discussed these with both them and our lead trainer. I learned a lot from doing this as well. Doing my TEFL training at Vantage in Bangkok was a fantastic experience. Thai students are very polite and well behaved. This program is world-class.

For one month, I learned something new about teaching in every class session. And yes this class is intensive but I was guided every step of the way. After each observed teaching practice, I was given extensive feedback and that really helped me realize I was doing better than I initially thought. I was then given a new challenge for my next class I taught which addressed areas that the trainers thought I still needed to work on. The lead trainer was excellent and always available for any help. The way he taught each unit and gave feedbacks was very effective. They have a separate “Jobs Coach” trainer who showed me how to create my own Power Resume. We actually sat down and did that after the course finished. I would also highly recommend taking this curse to anyone who is serious about teaching English. You leave with the requisite teaching skills, Additionally, I got coached on interviewing skills and got plugged into Vantage’s network of employment opportunities and that included their partnership with a major online teacher recruiter.

I did Vantage’s “Combined Class.” The first half my class was completed online back in the US. I then came out to Thailand to do my observed teaching practices—what Vantage calls the ‘practicum’—in front of Thai students. The online portion was primarily studying about teaching methodologies and grammar. While the online course was extensive, it didn’t give me the complete confidence that I was ready to teach. This is why the practicum was extremely useful. This part of the course helped me gain confidence in my abilities as a teacher. Both trainers were always there to support me and my fellow students with any concerns that we had. Apart from the practicum Vantage invited me to join their in-class course to participate in the peer teaching activities of the class. The peer teaching is really a great ‘first step’ in getting ready to teach. All of us were very nervous to teach for the first time in front of a group of students, but peer teaching really eased our worries. It allowed me to rehearse what I was going to do in front of the students and be less nervous in front of them. To sum it up, I feel I now ready to teach and I have so much more confidence than before I started the course. The Vantage training I got was second to none.

I initially considered programs that "guaranteed" teaching jobs. After speaking to the Course Director for a number of hours, I realized that Vantage would deliver a course that was much more in tune to my particular requirements. I was completely correct about getting individual service. We did our observed teaching practices to nursing students who were great to teach. We were first taught lesson planning, classroom management and provided with a ton of resources that make the transition into teaching super easy. My goal in doing this course was probably a bit different than most. As I plan to open a language academy in my hometown in Korea, I thought it was a good idea to firsts learn how to teach. I plan to work as a teacher for a little while so I really know everything about this profession. This should help me when I hire teachers and also if I have to substitute when regular teachers go on leave. What was really valuable to me came from the observed teaching practices. We then got a lot of detailed feedback on each class we took. We were given a new ‘challenge’ to do into our class. I got a bit better after each and every class I taught. If you do Vantage’s TEFL, you’ll be covering a lot of coursework each class. It was a challenging four weeks. At the same time, Vantage’s trainers always kept the classes engaging and kept it fun while we learned new stuff every day. The trainers at Vantage were exceptional and I made some great friends. I now believe that I’ve now have a solid foundation on how to teach a language. I came away from Vantage more confident than ever that I could successfully teach English in a live classroom.
