CERMES is located at the UWI Cave Hill Campus in Barbados, a “stone’s throw” away from the island’s beautiful beaches, affording panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. CERMES attracts students from across the Caribbean and further afield, forming professional collaborations that last beyond the study program. The Centre has extensive alumni and its academic staff brings a high level of international and regional expertise. The courses in the MSc program are modular, allowing the use of varied teaching and active learning strategies. It focuses on understanding and finding solutions to the everyday practical issues facing managers of natural resources and draws on academic insights from the fusion of natural and social sciences. CERMES’ ethos is founded on mutual respect, information sharing, and the interchange of ideas and this has led to a highly interactive, informal student-faculty relationship. The Department is proud of its world-class teaching and research. Many of the students enrolled in the MSc program bring previous professional experience. In this environment, the interaction between staff and students is conducted on a basis of mutual respect.
