Masters in Arts (Caribbean and African Theology)

The MA Degree in Caribbean and African Theology is an interdisciplinary program taught by faculty in the Departments of Theology, Cultural Studies, and History and Philosophy—within the Faculty of Humanities and Education at the University of The West
Indies Cave Hill Campus in Barbados. The basic assumption underlying this program of study is that all theology is contextual; hence, the nomenclature 'Caribbean and African Theology'. Historically, and with the notable exception of Latin American-based Liberation Theology, theological studies in the Caribbean have been eurocentric.

During this program, students learn how to critically reflect on the Caribbean perspective and experience of God. They will read and study the Holy Bible, concentrating on both the Old Testament and the New Testament through the lenses and mindset of people from the Caribbean. The program brings both Caribbean and African Theology to bear on the sociocultural development and the spiritual wellness of Caribbean people.

This is geared toward students curious about the Bible and who are interested in the analysis and interpretation of the Scripture, contextualizing it through a Caribbean lens.
