Program Overview

Immerse yourself in the culture of two capital cities – Montevideo and Buenos Aires – for the 2025 winter session. Enroll in a three-credit course while studying abroad. Availability is contingent upon student enrollment and is subject to change.

Your course options include:
- Spanish Language and Literature Studies (Intermediate Spanish I & II)
- Latin American Studies (Contemporary Women's Activism, Cultural History of Argentina and Uruguay, or Latin America Today)

Montevideo and Buenos Aires are about 128 miles apart. Both cities have a lively and relaxed (tranquilo) lifestyle. They are quickly becoming famous travel destinations due to their thriving cultural scene, rich architecture, and countless places to visit, such as sandy beaches, plazas, shops, museums, and restaurants.

Montevideo, the capital and biggest city in Uruguay, is located in the southernmost part of South America. It is known as one of the “coolest” and “most chilled-out” cities, reflecting the casual attitude of Uruguayans toward life. It has a humid subtropical climate with cool winters and warm summers.

Greatest experience in my undergrad!

Prior to my mini study abroad in Uruguay, I had never travelled so far alone. This experience allowed me to grow friendships with people I'd otherwise not likely meet. My host was incredible and she would ensure I always had what I needed, if I needed it. The class schedules were absolutely manageable, and my professor created a classroom environment that promoted civil discourse and no judgement. Montevideo is the perfect location for people seeking time on the beach, outdoor activities, and natural orange juice in all restaurants, particularly in its summer season! Moreover, the trip to Argentina creates a space for students to bond and encourages community-building among us. Overall, I'd recommend this program time and time again to anyone who is interested.

Learning through Life

Studying abroad is the best decision I’ve ever made. I have been taking Spanish classes since kindergarten, but learned more in one month than I have in all my Spanish classes. I would make this decision time and time again.

It changed my life

I feel this experience changed me for the better. I have so much more confidence and feel more independent. It was the first time I felt like a fully functioning independent adult and proved that I could do things like travel abroad on my own. I also got to experience a new culture and improve my Spanish skills. I gained a new perspective on the world, that my experiences in my home country were only a fraction of the experiences the world has to offer

Amazing

It was so fun!! Everything was well planned, I loved my host family. Daniella and Gustavo were my host parents, who had a beautiful home and helped me develop my Spanish. I loved that the program took us to two countries.
