I was, probably like some of you, a bit sceptical when initially applying due to the low price compared to other organisations. However, the experience I had was absolutely amazing and I have learnt so much about not only myself, but about different cultures and etiquettes. My program manager, Marissa, was absolutely fantastic at answer all of my questions and adjusting any mistakes I submitted onto my application such as flight number and pick-up time. Despite the huge time difference between Marissa and myself, she was able to reply to my email promptly and with extreme care - I was really at ease throughout the whole process and that made the experience a bunch better. Everything on my volunteering was as described on the program guide and there were no surprises when I landed, everything that happened during my week I was prepared for. I would really recommend this company and I want to thank them once more for the fantastic and truly life-changing experience they provided for me.

I had such a wonderful experience in Split! I met so many amazing people from different countries and made memories that I will definitely never forget. The Youth Support program gave me the opportunity to connect with the local community, experience a different culture and grow personally at the same time. The local team was very welcoming and supportive and I always felt comfortable asking questions or getting help when needed. I especially loved the international atmosphere and meeting people with completely different backgrounds and stories.besides volunteering, I had enough time to explore Split, enjoy the beautiful beaches and nature and experience Croatian culture. This experience helped me step outside my comfort zone, become more independent and see things from new perspectives. I’m really grateful for all the people I met and everything I experienced during my time here. The support and organization of IVHQ was strong and great. Traveling and volunteering with a family of five, with 3 Jr High School kids but was amazing. Very comfortable and things were laid out well, we all felt extremely safe and comfortable the entire experience.

The preparation before trip was so detailed that I don’t have anything to worry about. It got everything listed and made it so much easier to tick off what I’ve done and what they need. The communication with the manager for the volunteer was so smooth and fast, and I was able to get a reply current evening or next morning (due to different timing in different countries). I wanted to change my volunteer from rural teaching to turtle reservation, it was so fast that there wasn’t any problems with the money nor arrangements, everything just went so smoothly, really impressed. The local team there really helped a lot, the driver, the leader, everyone was just so nice, even the cook and the receptionist. This volunteer as itself also helped me a lot on raising awareness for the sea turtles, learnt a lot and really hope to help them consistently. This is such a memorable trip and I hope to do these volunteers with IVHQ next summer with my friends.

My Jamaica experience was great because it allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone, connect with new people, and make meaningful memories while serving others. I loved being able to learn about the culture, build relationships with the local community, and see the impact that small acts of kindness can have. The experience challenged me to grow in my faith, gratitude, and appreciation for the opportunities I have. It was rewarding to work alongside others who shared the same passion for helping people and creating a positive difference. IVHQ does a great job of creating opportunities for volunteers to make a meaningful impact while also providing support and guidance throughout the experience. My experience with IVHQ absolutely exceeded my expectations and was so amazing, the staff were so friendly and really created a positive and welcoming environment, i felt safe and included by all the other volunteers, my only regret is not staying longer! I will definitely be back in the future!

Overall I had an amazing experience with Ivhq. I volunteered in Cape Town South Africa and I have never been so in love with a place. The culture and the people are truly amazing. I volunteered in a town ship with grade three and loved every minute of it! The kids are so kind and you can tell they truly love the help you have to offer. I have already done 3 programs with IVHQ, and this is just the beginning! Costa Rica to teach English, Fiji for childcare, and Thailand to teach. Each program has been magical! My experience in Hua Hin teaching children was truly amazing. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and supported by a wonderful team. Special thanks to Hannah Yule, Tukkie Khudseesai, and Noah, the coordinator of my teaching team, who made the experience even more enjoyable and well organized. Teaching the children was incredibly rewarding, and the environment was positive, friendly, and motivating every day. The accommodation provided was very comfortable, and the food was also excellent throughout my stay. Overall, this was a memorable and enriching experience that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in volunteering and teaching in Hua Hin.

My volunteer experience in Thailand was truly rewarding. The program was well-organized, and the staff were supportive throughout. What stood out most was the real impact—even small contributions made a difference in the local community. It also helped me grow personally by becoming more adaptable, independent, and open-minded. Teaching in Ubud, Bali was one of the most beautiful and meaningful experiences of my life. I came expecting to help and give, but I ended up receiving so much more. The children were incredibly kind, respectful, and full of joy. What impacted me the most was how grateful they were for everything;even the smallest things. They would smile constantly, show affection in the purest ways, and even gift me candies as a way to say thank you. Those small gestures meant more than they probably realized. Every day felt special. Being able to connect with them, teach them, laugh with them, and see their excitement to learn was something I will never forget. The environment was welcoming, and the staff made everything smooth and supportive, allowing us to truly focus on making a difference. This experience changed my perspective in the best way possible. It reminded me how powerful kindness, gratitude, and human connection can be. I will always carry these memories with me, and I’m beyond grateful to have been part of something so real and meaningful.

The local guides informed us of a beautiful name for their islands, “The Enchanted Islands”. Given on account of their difficulty to find back in the days of ships and nautical exploration (pre-flight). Such an incredible opportunity to care for unique and endangered gentle creatures. Work was meaningful and rewarding, play time was abundant and fulfilling. One of the most beautiful places I have encountered on this Earth. IVHQ does a tremendous job preparing the traveler for what to expect.

I enjoyed meeting new people from around the world and the fact that we were in the middle of the city like a local which gave it very realistic feel. A Medical internship with Intern Abroad HQ is such a thorough and amazing experience for those who want to travel and learn in their field.

It was by far the best volunteer experience I have done I only wish I could have stayed longer. The culture and food was so amazing and everyone was so welcoming and friendly. This experience I will remember for the rest of my life and have made so many amazing friendships.

Having the chance to live in a completely new environment can be scary at first, but so rewarding in the end. From my experience in Australia, I feel I've gained valuable lessons about my independence, as well as met some amazing people. i just turned 18 and wanted to do something fun. so i looked up places to volunteer, it’s easy to find friends and explore new things, but it’s also a cheap way to travel. so i found a website where you can go volunteering in buenos aires. and i’m telling you: buenos aires is one of my fav cities now, i loved everything about the project and the people were the best i’ve met. i’ve made so many new friends from all over the world in just a short time. i experienced so many different things and saw also places you’d never go if you’d be on vacation. the accommodation was great, the breakfast was really nice and our local coordinater was really kind and chill. it was the best time on life so far!! i learned a lot about myself and grew. and that’s why i’d recommend to go alone. so please go if you’re thinking about it!! you’re not gonna regret it, i’ll promise.

I felt very supported while in Fiji, I had no trouble finding where I needed to be. The local staff was amazing and even with Visa changing right before my trip I had guidance through each step of the process. We were well provided for, and I had a lot of fun meeting a ton of new people while there. As someone who has never really traveled outside of the US much, especially solo, I would highly recommend!

My experience on The Gold Program Ghana was more than I could have expected. The staff and people at the volunteer compound were professional, considerate and fun. The grade 3 class I taught at was welcoming and friendly. The kids and staff at the school have provided me no end of memories.

IVHQ was very easy to work with, from start to finish. As a senior woman traveling alone, I felt well taken care of. They picked me up from the airport, and transported me to my homestay. I stayed with a lovely family, and felt very safe and welcomed in their home. I was shown how to get to my job at a school teaching English, and they checked on me several times throughout the week. Their office was centrally located in downtown, open 7 days a week, and was a meeting point for other volunteers. After two weeks, I was picked up from my homestay and taken to the airport. I never felt more taken care of in all my life! Thank you IVHQ!!

From the start to finish, I felt supported from all the staff. Safety was a priority in South Africa and they ensured that these were remembered whilst we went out and enjoyed ourselves! The school was absolutely amazing and I loved the class and teachers I worked with. After programme, we had so much time to go and explore the local area of muizenburg and even head into the city of Cape Town to explore. It was importantly to follow the house rules as they kept you safe however I never felt as though the rules were restrictive and were very thought out to ensure safety to all volunteers. I wish I did longer than the 3 weeks and can’t wait to go back, I would recommend this trip to anyone and believe the process is so easy to do

I enjoyed the people that I met through my internship. My coworkers became my family and I love them dearly. My internship helped me complete my masters degree and now I can use my work with Māori and Pasifika women to hopefully move back to NZ permanently and continue building off that work.

Volunteering with International Volunteer HQ alongside the incredible team at my placement in Kenya has been one of the most humbling and grounding experiences of my life. My medical mission trip to Antigua, Guatemala with International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) was more than I ever imagined. From start to finish, the program was incredibly well organized, safe, and meaningful. I felt supported every step of the way, which allowed me to fully focus on learning, serving, and connecting with the community. As an LPN, I had the opportunity to work in a clinic setting where I assisted with assessments, participated in daily activities, and spent quality time with elderly patients. Working with the elders was especially impactful — not only providing care, but listening to them, learning from them, and simply being present. It was an experience that strengthened both my clinical skills and my compassion as a nurse. The host family experience was equally amazing. They were warm, welcoming, and truly made me feel at home. The food was incredible, and I appreciated learning more about Guatemalan culture through daily life with them. It added such depth to the overall experience. The tours and cultural experiences offered through the program were absolutely out of this world. Exploring Antigua and the surrounding areas was unforgettable and helped me better understand the country, its history, and its people. This trip pushed me personally and professionally in the best way possible. I gained hands-on experience, cultural awareness, and memories that will stay with me forever. I am beyond grateful to IVHQ for creating such a meaningful and well-run program. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to grow, serve, and make a real difference.

My family and I volunteered as an opportunity to give back when we have so much. Through IVHQ we had a safe, informative, helpful and overall incredible experience. The staff was very organized and responsive in answering all questions prior to travel. The experience went exceptionally well for such long flights, and they were even very accommodating when the airline misplaced our baggage for the 1st 8 days of the trip. We had a clear plan and clear expectations and nothing disappointed! This was our second family volunteer trip with IVHQ, and we plan to spend 2 weeks in Vietnam next Christmas with them as well! What an incredible way to authentically see the world for a very reasonable cost and give back at the same time. Priceless.

Im so glad I made the decision to finally volunteer abroad. Choosing ivhq made the process easy and safe. I'll be doing this again in the future. But next time, I'm going to a new country because there are so many options!

I had a great time in Thailand volunteering through IVHQ. Their pre departure checklists and videos were really helpful, and gave me confidence. The handover to the local team was seamless, with pickups and transport working really well. During the placement, the accommodation was great, with a good range of extra activities to get involved in during our downtime. In my third week, I transferred to a private room, as my boyfriend joined, and this again was seamless, with local pickups and drop offs only a whatsapp away. And the placement itself was sooo rewarding! I did construction and renovation which was sometimes tough in the heat, but well worth it to see the gratitude on the faces of the pupils and teachers at the kindergarten.

I was looking for an escape from my comfortable lifestyle at home in Canada. I wanted to share my passion helping others less fortunate than myself. I searched international volunteering programs, have volunteered in four countries in 2025, and can truly say these experiences have changed my life. How do you feel when an elderly person in a old people's home in Zambia begs you to stay with them and share stories and smiles? What happens to you when the school children in Ghana hug you so tight you lose your breath? What overtakes your mind when you introduce positive ideas to women in an impoverished village in Sri Lanka, and see them take possession of new personal empowerment? Let me tell you. It grabs you by the heart and nourishes your soul. It makes you want to come back again and again. Which is exactly what I plan to do in 2026.

I volunteered with IVHQ for their Christmas program in Antigua, Guatemala. This was my first experience with IVHQ and I will definitely volunteer with them again. I stayed with a local family who were kind, thoughtful and made me feel right at home. The accommodations were modest but clean and comfortable. The Christmas program was a great experience because we had the opportunity to do a variety of activities including working with seniors and children, picking coffee beans, and a cultural immersion. I appreciate that IVHQ partners with local organizations on the ground.

I volunteered at a turtle sanctuary, collecting the eggs, and managing the turtle hatchlings. The site included crocodiles, and deer. The work was interesting, and the people were kind, appreciative, and helpful.

Palawan – Tigman Village After spending 45 years as a lawyer and judge, I retired from professional service at the end of 2022. With the worst of COVID-19’s global impact behind us, I began a search for travel experiences that were outside the more popular paths. In this way I discovered International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ), a non-profit non-governmental organization based in New Zealand. Looking through its website, I learned that IVHQ’s parent organization, HQ Travel Group, has since 2015 been a certified B Corporation - the only global volunteering and internships provider so certified; and its business operations in New Zealand have been certified carbon neutral since 2016. While it is a credential that might not be widely familiar to travelers, to me the B Corp certification means that the business meets high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. To achieve certification, a company must demonstrate high social and environmental performance, make a legal commitment by being accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and must exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website. Having met all of my lawyer/judge standards for global ethics, I investigated whether there might be volunteer opportunities at IVHQ for me that might take me out of my comfort zone and test my commitment to helping local impoverished communities. I found such an opportunity in Tigman Village, a rural community located in the municipality of Aborlan, a province of Palawan, in the Mimaropa Region of the Philippine Islands. At its activity center in Tigman, IVHQ partners with The Green Lion, another non-profit NGO that focuses on travel-based volunteering. The partnership proved to be highly effective. Based on information supplied by The Green Lion, IVHQ’s website provided a wealth of information about volunteer opportunities in Palawan. It accurately described the kind of service volunteers could opt to provide; it gave a clear picture of housing and transportation features we would encounter, and it offered a glimpse of activities of interest to visitors, things to do and places to see during our off-duty weekends. During my two-week visit the volunteers were engaged in medical support, environmental protection, teaching and daycare services, and – in my case – construction services. For me, that meant working with Rodel, a seasoned landscaper and builder who taught me how to mix cement, sand, gravel, and water to make concrete used to build a section of an “eco wall” – a wall made with bricks that were 1-liter plastic bottles packed tight with waste plastic and junk food wrapper trash. Over the past three years volunteers have erected a six-foot perimeter wall surrounding a daycare center, painting the bottles in bright primary colors while creating a safe space for the children and staff at the center. The work was challenging, to be sure. I’d never used a shovel to mix ingredients to make concrete, nor had I built a wall with hard-packed plastic soda bottles. But Rodel was there every step of the way, and together we spent two weeks on a project that, in my mind, at least, made a difference and improved the quality of life for these villagers. During my two weeks at the center, I was part of the debriefing conversations where all the participants shared how they spent their day. Health care professionals reported on the screening and vaccinations they were able to administer; daycare and elementary school volunteers shared how their classes went; and environmental volunteers described the projects that they completed in the village. I was the only construction volunteer, and I reported daily on progress Rodel and I made creating the eco wall forming the perimeter around the daycare center. My takeaway points: The Green Lion excels at creating a safe and fulfilling environment for its volunteers. There were maybe 20 volunteers when I arrived, and several of them described their experiences (these were volunteers who were scheduled to depart later that week). I heard repeated testimonials describing the positive impact their service had on their lives. They described the friendships they made with Green Lion staff members. They described the feeling that within their cohort of volunteers, they formed true and deep friendships and expressed the respect they felt towards The Green Lion and IVHQ. I was truly blown away by the empathy these young men and women expressed, for their colleagues, for members of the staff, and for the villagers they served. If you want a meaningful experience helping those in need, this place and this experience more than meets the need. Some tips, based on my own experience: don’t forget shampoo, bar soap, bug spray, and sunblock. If you want to spice up your bottled water, bring powdered electrolytes. Bring some liquid Benadryl. Don’t expect to have access to alcohol – it’s strictly forbidden on site (but there’s a bar a ten-minute walk from the activity center). Don’t expect hot water showers (from personal experience, by the second day I didn’t miss heat; I just wanted to get the concrete dust out of my hair). Accept that when being transported locally you’ll be riding shotgun to a motorcycle tricycle – no seat belts. Plan activities for your weekends. Go somewhere, do something, meet people and enjoy their company. If time permits, take the cultural course offered by The Green Lion before diving into your chosen volunteer activity. I did so and learned how to carve out a coconut bowl and turn it into a planter, how to weave nipa leaves for use as a roof thatch, how to cook spring rolls, how to count to 100 in Tagalog, and what a local massage therapist can do for the aches in your back. And finally, if there’s more than 30 years between you and most of the volunteers, be respectful and understand that their lives are a lot more interesting and fun than yours, but that they’re very nice people anyway. And it helps if you appreciate Taylor Swift.

IVHQ is a great organization to volunteer through. They provided each step in a clear and organized manner from the volunteer handbook to the many helpful hints along the way. My volunteer placement was perfect for me, and I lookedforward to going there everyday. I also had plenty of tome afterwards to explore Peru. The IVHQ team also checked up on you throughout the entire process, while you were volunteering and afterwards. I appreciated how they kept touch. Overall, it was truly an amazing experience!!

Volunteering in Tanzania was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and kindness that made me feel part of the community. Every day brought something new teaching children, helping with local projects, and learning about a culture that values connection, joy, and simplicity.

My IVHQ coordinator was very punctual and informative when answering my email and questions. Thailand was the first asian country I ever travelled to and I really loved the country, I was never home sick. The locals I met and the other volunteers were all kind and fun to be around. The teaching program was not too difficult even though it was mostly autonomous because there are coordinators and resources available to help build lessons. The volunteer to free time ratio was great. My only complaint was that my travel group found the beds too hard, but it was address by the end of the week.

My wife I spent 2 weeks in Ubud. We learned a bit of Buhasa, painted Batik, went to a holy water temple, visited a coffee plantation and a rice terrace, snorkeled, and worked with grade 2-4 students teaching them English. Rewarding and a lot of fun.

If you're tossing up whether to do this program or not, absolutely book it! I was very nervous to solo travel for the first time but since completing the program, I can easily say it was the best decision I've ever made and will 100% be doing it again. With all of the support from IVHQ and the local team you feel so safe and supported the entire time! Let this be your sign... do it!

What made my experience great was the transparency involved with making the entire trip extremely smooth. Directions were clear and concise when arriving to Vietnam which made traveling abroad extremely comforting. While in Ho Chi Minh City, the local team did a great job of spelling out what I would be doing on a daily basis when it came to teaching English. The program was everything I wanted it to be and more!

I had a fantastic experience volunteering with IVHQ on the Marine Conservation programme in Omis Croatia. From the very beginning the IVHQ team provided clear guidance and excellent support and the local coordinators were welcoming organised and always available to help. The conservation work was meaningful and rewarding. I gained a real understanding of the local marine environment and the importance of protecting it. Activities such as underwater clean ups and learning about sustainability gave me hands on skills as well as a deeper appreciation for ocean conservation. It was also great to gain my SSI qualification in scuba diving which really enhanced the whole experience. Omis itself is a beautiful coastal town and living there with other volunteers made the experience even more special. I met wonderful people from all over the world and together we shared both the volunteer work and the adventure of exploring Croatia. Overall I would highly recommend IVHQ and this programme to anyone who wants to make a positive impact learn new skills and experience another culture. It is something I will never forget.

I spent three weeks volunteering at Salariin Kampuchea Learning Center in Siem Reap, where I helped teach English to younger students and supported the development of their social media presence. It was one of the most enriching experiences I’ve ever had. Some days were more challenging than others—adapting to a new environment and finding ways to communicate across cultures. But what I’ll carry with me, more than anything, is the deep sense of connection I felt with the people. In the months leading up to our trip, the IVHQ team sent us a comprehensive to-do list that included everything we needed to ensure our trip was a success and that all documents were in order. When we had questions, they always responded in a timely manner. We were connected with a local team in Zambia, who were wonderful! They made sure that our stay was comfortable. They also offered excellent advice on tours, taxi drivers, shopping, and sightseeing. We always felt safe and cared for. I now consider them as lifelong friends. Our team did volunteer teaching in a local school, and the children were charming and attentive. We were amazed by their musical talents! On our last day, they performed a cultural show for us. It was my first volunteering experience and I felt welcome at the camp from the first day. The Local Team was always very helpful when any volunteer needed advice. Also, we could choose various activities every week, which meant that every day was different and never boring. The accommodation was clean and the food was very good, they also accepted requests for specific dishes from time to time. Only in a couple of weeks I made great friends and I would definitely recommend this experience to someone else.

Every day I was able to try new things and be immersed in the Costa Rican culture. I was able to be a part of some thing bigger than myself… And push myself to get out of my comfort zone. I tried new foods learn some Spanish and met people from all over the world. Every day I was reassured about any problems that I might’ve had and was supported with a smile. Where do I even begin? From the very start the programme coordinator at IVHQ ensured all my questions were answered, and everything was in perfect order for my volunteering. Once at my placement, the local team was incredibly helpful and supportive, ensuring I had everything I needed- from helping me understand how to commute to my work place, where the supermarket was, and even more technical aspects like where to buy SIM cards…. This week I've been able to experience activities that I would have never thought of every having the fortune to participate in. From collecting and planting seeds in the muddy mangroves to playing and teaching the local elementary school children, the IVHQ program has offered me once in a lifetime experiences. The people I've met on this trip have also been amazing in their own unique ways. I've learnt so much not just about the Philippines where the program was held, but also about the other countries where the other volunteers came from. The program has really opened my eyes and shown me how much there is to explore within the world and I'd highly recommend it to anyone else hesitant to join.

Since the start of signing up for the program, it was a wonderful experience. My program manager from IVHQ was wonderful. She answered all my questions and all my nerves I had before hand. Everything was great when volunteering with IVHQ. The organization prior to the trip and communication was fantastic. When in Zambia, the local team was great, they were very kind, open-minded and organized. The local team knew everything, helped us with transport and organizing all of the activies me and the volunteers were interested in doing. Furthermore, I want to highlight the availability of staff 24/7. Teaching in Zambia was a heart warming experience. People in Zambia are very welcoming which makes you be more empathic. I went to Galapagos for my first volunteer project. The entire experience was fantastic. The description of the travel to the island seemed challenging but it was not that bad. Great opportunity to get immersed in the culture, living with an ecuadorian family. The living conditions were much better than I expected. The program was run very well with plenty of time to get out and see the sights of Galapagos. Highly recommend. Will be returning next year.

I participated in the IVHQ Sea Turtle Nesting Program on Isabela Island from March 31 to April 15, 2025, and it was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. This program combines practical conservation efforts with cultural immersion in one of the most ecologically unique places on earth. Our daily tasks included monitoring sea turtle nests, searching for nesting turtles, collecting scientific data, cleaning up beach debris, and removing invasive plant species that threaten the nesting areas. I worked alongside a wonderful group of international volunteers, knowledgeable local staff, and a park ranger from the Galápagos National Park. The collaborative environment made every day engaging and educational. Scientific Discovery in Action. One of the most emotional and memorable moments came during a nest excavation. As we carefully unearthed the nest, we discovered a single hatchling still making its way out. Watching that tiny turtle begin its journey to the ocean was breathtaking—and witnessing how the scientific data was gathered during the process made the moment even more powerful. The accommodations exceeded my expectations. Staying with a local host family not only gave me a comfortable and welcoming home base but also offered a rich introduction to Ecuadorian culture and daily life. They were incredibly helpful, and the food was fantastic. Eye-Opening Environmental Realities, one of the more surprising aspects of the experience was the amount of trash we encountered on the beaches during our morning patrols. Even though the beach looked clean at first glance, the tides brought in a constant stream of microplastics and debris. It was a stark reminder of the global scope of marine pollution. I would absolutely recommend this program to anyone passionate about marine conservation, sustainability, or environmental science. It’s also ideal for those seeking an adventure that blends purpose with exploration. The Galápagos Islands are a natural wonder, and this program offers a hands-on way to help protect them while learning from dedicated professionals and making lifelong memories.

As a 16 year old I can say that volunteering in Sri Lanka through the ivhq was one of the best things I have ever done,the local team made me feel safe and secure and made sure I had fun volunteering and I felt I had made some what of an impact towards wildlife doing what I did.i cannot recommend ivhq more and will definitely be volunteering again one day

I loved my experience in Peru. My coordinator and local team were constantly helpful and gave me all of the support I needed. Traveling to a foreign country is scary, yet they helped me feel constantly safe. I loved helping in a local womens and childrens shelter and soup kitchen! Each of the projects are sustainable and making lasting impacts on their communities. I would just love to stay longer to keep teaching English in the schools.

Had a wonderful time in Fiji the local team was very supportive, kind and helpful. We went on an adventure trip the first week and after that we were volunteering I was working with the kids in the sports and they are just amazing. Incredible souls I feel so connected to this program felt safe and happy for the most part

This was my second volunteer experience with IVHQ. I chose construction this time and really loved it. It was great to see the physical results of our work after just one week and other volunteers have sent pictures of the final results of our second project. Our daily routine was perfect and gave us lots of time in the afternoons and evenings for the beach and other tourist activities. Our accommodations and food were wonderful too! We will definitely do it again!

The programme insured that whilst getting my teaching experience, I learnt loads about the history of the children in this area. It has been the most eye opening experience and I am so grateful to have been part of it, I will be back!! The team were super supportive and ensured we were safe at all times. This was my first time solo travelling and I felt confident to flourish and be adventurous in the beautiful South Africa!

After going on a trek in the Himalayas in January of 2024, I fell in love with the country and the people and wanted to return there to do some volunteer work. I found IVHQ on the internet and with the variety of programs they offer around the world I was able to return to Nepal and booked a trip to the Elephant Sanctuary in Chitwan. It was a magical experience. You learn such a lot about these wonderful animals and the hosts at the sanctuary were so gracious. It was a very rewarding experience.

My time volunteering with IVHQ was an incredible experience. The local team made me feel safe, comfortable, and welcome. I gained new insight and perspective, was completely immersed in a new culture, and felt like I really made a difference. I plan to do this annually and hope to make it back to the same village I went to in Ghana someday.

During the first week of orientation, you had the option to volunteer with special needs girls which was such an eye opening experience. The ability to connect with people from a completely different culture and with language difference is surreal. You may be hesitant due to language differences but the local team speak English and the girls with special needs are grateful to have you around and find other ways of communication

From the start to the conclusion everything went great. The teaching was fun (it was still work) and the kids were the BEST, ever. Had to get use to the hot weather but we had a pool and a beautiful ocean to take those wonderful sunrise walks along the beach. The local team was the best and the IVHQ didn't leave out anything, they prepare you well and provide tips you might not have thought about yourself. I only wish it wasn't 22 hours of fights, of course if it was closer I might be on my way back now. To someone thinking about doing this, yes you might not have all the comforts of home but you'll never be the same again and I say that in a GOOD way. P.S. be ready to make some new friends. I had a great experience was able to give something to the community as a volunteer, but mostly to meet new people and enjoy Costa Rica! My host family was amazing and although I travelled alone, I ended up spending afternoons exploring with my housemate, which was a blessing. I also had time to do some trips w the local travel agency and on my own. It was a great experience. My Spanish is terrible but the people there are so nice and patient, most speak some English so it was a great way to get inspired to pick up Spanish again. I will definitely do another program with IVHQ.

I spent 16 days volunteering and traveling solo for the first time in my life with IVHQ at the beginning of February. I worked on the surf outreach and early childhood education programs in Cape Town, South Africa, and it was truly the best experience of my entire life. I have always had a deep passion for volunteering to improve the lives of children and animals in my local community, but it was time to extend my efforts beyond the United States. This decision turned out to be the best one I have ever made. I fell deeply in love with the people and culture of South Africa, and I formed friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my life. If you are considering volunteering through IVHQ - do it. I felt extremely supported during my entire trip, especially being a single girl in my twenties traveling alone. The local staff at our volunteer house were incredible and so kind + my rep that helped me plan my trip was also super helpful and answered all of my questions so that I was fully prepared to take on this journey! I can’t wait for my next volunteer trip!

support from the online coordinator was great, always replied to emails soon and with helpful answers; and the local team was so friendly and kind and really made it feel like home! this was my first time volunteering so i was fairly unsure of what to expect but i enjoyed it so much and would definitely go through IVHQ again! i initially joined to do childcare, my first week i helped out at a kid’s camp but due to that camp ending the local team were really helpful and quickly found me another placement to volunteer at to what would suit me. meeting new people in the homestay was great and you quickly become friends with them for the trip or to also keep in contact after. i loved being able to have free time to choose what to do and where to go and being able to visit amazing places and immerse myself in a new culture despite not speaking Spanish much or well!

My wife and I volunteered with IVHQ in TIgman Village, Palawan in the Philippines and had a remarkably, impactful time. We would recommend to any honeymooners to volunteer for at least a portion of their trip as it created lasting memories, impactful experiences, and created a stronger bond between the two of us. Giving back to the country we were visiting, and assisting in healing the planet was such a great experience.

I was in Taiwan for 5 months, for my student exchange program. The college I was in have a volunteer program with a school ( Hands together ) I volunteerd there multiple times and every time I learned something new. Of course there was a language barrier but that did not stopped us to communicate. We did coastal clean up with high school students. They were so eager to learn about our Indian culture. Being there made me realised that I can do so much more for my people. Meeting new people, talking with them and learning new skills is what I want to do. And share my knowledge and experience.

My highlight from the volunteer experience was teaching the youth about climate change. This was a great part of our environmental project. I've worked with kids for over 20 years and I've never seen kids so welcoming, well behaved, excited and ready to learn than the groups of kids we talked to about climate change. It was incredible to feel their energy. The local team are outstanding. Probably the best out of my four trips. We were very lucky to have them. A warm and welcoming team with experience makes all the difference. The experience was extremely humbling. Filipino people (specifically in Tigman Village) are so welcoming and friendly - it's really eye opening. There's very little stress and anxiety there. People care about and for each other and clearly show it. While the project itself was fun, the culture had the most impact on me by far. Also, we had a really great mix of other volunteers during my two weeks. That makes a huge difference, having a good group. What I would you say to someone still hesitant is all the feelings you may have are normal. Maybe a little nervous - traveling into the unknown. Try not to think about it as stepping "out of your comfort zone". Use the mindset that you're "stepping into a brand new comfort zone". Try the mentality: "I'm going to a new home" instead of "going away from home". It helps with the culture shock. Also, TRUST YOURSELF. Use your instincts as you make decisions and handle situations. You will be challenged and sometimes uncomfortable. But remember that is OKAY. You're not failing if you're uncomfortable, you're growing. Remember, the benefits of an open mind and an open heart when you do programs like this far outweigh the challenges.

Teaching music to the children at one of the placements was something I didn’t expect to do, and it was awesome! Also, I've grown my confidence with my volunteer trip. Do not over think it, everyone fully looks after you to make sure you are safe and supported.

Being immersed in the culture and seeing the country is just an additional perk to the overall program. I had the opportunity to help the animal shelter Costa Rica and it was a true blessing. The staff there is amazing but they are spread thin and really rely on volunteers to give the animals extra love, care and attention. I volunteered for two weeks and saw so many animals get adopted. Others I was able to help train, groom and play with to help the adoption process. I was able to take initiative and add extra help where my strengths could flourish. My homestay exceeded my expectations. My house mom was so sweet and I can now say I have a Costa Rica Family!! Shout out to Ashley, program manager, and Jessica, Salsa dance teacher, from Maximo. They were awesome! Come open minded and don't sit back at your work site. If you find yourself with free time, find things to do or ask how else you can help. The impact you can make is incredible.

For those who are hesitant about volunteering abroad I would say take the plunge as I can guarantee that it will be the best decision of your life & the memories that you make you will cherish for many years to come! After volunteering on this program it has left me wanting more!! I will definitely be volunteering abroad again because the connections that I made were priceless and are unable to be found anywhere else!

Getting to know and helping the community, as well as experiencing such a unique culture I'd never before seen was my favourite moment. The program had the biggest impact on my view on the world, and just how different some places can be. My advice is definitely volunteer, since you're helping people who need it most, and it's an overall great experience.

It’s worth to explore and have impact in your life and other peoples lives with the support of Gods grace and mercy.The world is here for us to see and not to judge it but to improve on it where everyone one That Lives in it has the same say and deserves the same treatment as any other person.

Interacting with the local team and the locals whilst creating life long bonds with other volunteers was a highlight. Helping build a house for an elderly lady was the biggest impact from my trip. My advice is go and try it out for a couple weeks. In just 2 weeks you can make a big impact, learn an immense amount whilst surrounded by locals and their culture and create life long friendships.

I know that I can travel on my own and meet brand new people in a brand new place and not even know the language but still LOVE IT and enjoy an experience of a lifetime. Don't be hesitant - go for it. Right now, you just don't know how much it's worth it, but it is - and so are you. ENJOY YOUR LIFE ON THE EARTH!!!

Keep an open mind and GO!!! The guidance and preparation resources I received pre-departure were spot on target and the in-country volunteer coordinator was absolutely fabulous!!! Very passionate and dedicated ... I loved her!

Try IVHQ! The information was thorough and timely. The local team in Italy provided great information and I appreciated the sight seeing and restaurant recommendations. I made life-long friends and was extremely lucky. I enjoyed working at the farm, the people we were worked for, and the volunteer team. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and now I know I can do things I did not think I was capable of.

IVHQ was there from start to finish making sure I knew what to expect and what was needed, and the local placement exceeded expectations with accommodation and knowledge. The conservation work with wildlife was rewarding and educational. I thought 2 weeks would be long enough, but my biggest regret is not having stayed longer!

The experience in Bali with Green Lion was great! The people and staff are so lovely, polite, and helpful. The environment was so friendly and welcoming. The staff were always there and were so helpful at all times! The teaching experience was a bit challenging, yet it was worth it. Learning the Bahasa was so interesting. In Green Lion, it is so easy to make friends and engage in different activities. Teaching Balinese students was so much fun and self developing. Creating memories with students has taken a special part in my life!

I had the most amazing experience volunteering in Portugal! At first it was scary because I didn't know what to expect when I arrive in Portugal, but after finishing my program the only regret that I have is staying there for only a week. I made amazing memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life, and new friends from all over the world. The children at my volunteer placement were the nicest kids ever and even though there was a language barrier, they were understanding that I couldn't speak Portuguese and helped me understand them better. I cannot wait to volunteer with IVHQ again!

I taught EFL in Cusco for 1 week with my son who is 12. The local team, Maximo Nivel was an excellent organization to work with. Everything was organized, professional and they made it easy to settle into the experience. Traveling alone with my child I wanted to make sure I felt comfortable and safe and I couldn't have felt more so. Our teaching experience was just that; the organization and children we worked with were fun and engaged and they enjoyed learning from my son as well. Overall the entire experience was a great learning opportunity and travel memory to make. I am planning to volunteer with IVHQ again and would recommend IVHQ to anyone who wants their travel experience to be more wholesome and immersive beyond simple tourism.

We were looking for an organization that could offer different programs for a family. IVHQ was that organization! They offered programs in a medical group for my daughter, sustainability group for my son and teaching group for myself - all this and we could stay in a private room in a homestead. We booked several outings with IVHQ. They listened to our concerns and everything went very smoothly. We saw the beautiful Ngorongoro crater (safari), visited a Maasai village and hiked Kilimanjaro up to first base: Mandara hut. On our spare time we visited local markets, a baby orphanage and got to know Arusha. The people were very friendly and we had great conversations with local people. Safety is an issue but it was not a problem at all, only be aware of it. Our 1 week in Arusha, Tanzania was a great experience, only wish we would have stayed longer.

Travelling to Zimbabwe was initially very spontaneous for me. I had never been to Africa but really wanted to see the wildlife. Since I could not afford a Safari, I decided to register with the IVHQ team and it was the best decision of my life. The program was unbelievable - Amazing food, great people, good balance between work and free time, and a very safe place. The IVHQ team made sure I had all the info required for vaccins, travel papers, visas, things to bring, and required addresses. This allowed me to travel from Canada to Zimbabwe safely and without a problem. Over there, the IVHQ team has been in contact with me to make sure that everything was in order. You absolutely get support before, during, and after your stay and they really care about your experiences. I remember that I had so many questions before my trip and they took the time to answer them all. I went to Indonesia, Bali, for my 3 week course on environmental education to teach children. The kids were amazing and so smart, you really get attached so it’s hard to leave them! I met amazing people and although the team on the ground were separate from IVHQ they were so so helpful in everything we did and the process for teaching went so smoothly and the whole experience from living arrangements to actually teaching was very easy. There were taxis available almost 24/7 that were specifically for the volunteer house which was very convenient as well and Green Lion (the volunteer house) partnered up with the taxi rank to offer amazing discounts on tours around Bali and had a variety of activities that we were able to book whenever we wanted. The rooms and bathrooms were super clean and were cleaned by Green Lion staff everyday. All in all an amazing experience and I would definitely go again!

Walking into the favela alone for the first time with a ‘western’ mindset , lots of thoughts however the feelings of respect, community and warmth seem to be the prevailing ones. Once at the top of the favela, Childerns voices appear: ‘TIA MARIETCHI’ and two kids fly around my neck of joy. Hounestly, we are so blessed and these kids deserve all possible to have opportunities to dream and fulfill these. This is one of the main leassons learned; it’s not the English teaching in itself, but trying to offer kids the feasibility of realizing their answer to the question ‘what do you want to do when you grow up’. Or even planting a seat of confidence / inspiration and keeping them from the streets by exposing them to the most spoken language in the world. I came as the English teacher mariette and left as Tia marieti, a blessed identity that will keep me sharp going forward! Thanks to IVHQ these learning lessons and impact makings were possible. The support, introductions, organization, website/platform and quick replies to questions were top notch. Highly recommended to have IVHQ as a trusted guide for your volunteering and, to be fair, life changing experiences. IVHQ stands behind you.

Well-intentioned, but unfortunately relies on their own volunteers to fund them. Expect to pay your program fee $520au, the registration fee $535au (same price as the program fee), all transport costs (states it's included but isn't), any extra night $90au, and non-discounted flights/insurance. Any changes or cancellations also incur $215au fee. A 1-week trip cost me $1200 (not including flights, insurance, transfers, leisure, lunches, or donations) Staff are friendly, however not knowledgeable about the programs or accommodation, leaving an uncertain feeling. I was unwell and unable to attend the program at short notice. The only refund I'm eligible is for $240. Pretty disappointing that I won't even be able to go at a later date since I'm -$1000.au.

It was my first volunteer trip, so I decided to only go for one week, but I wish I could have stayed longer! Merran from IVHQ helped answer any questions before the trip. The IVHQ profile also has helpful tools that prepared me for the trip. The description of the accommodation was accurate, so I was prepared to be in a volunteer house with other people. I was able to meet people from all over the world in different projects. I went in August, since it is the peak of summer in Jamaica it was very hot. Once I arrived, the V2 team in Jamaica was very welcoming, and friendly and helped me with any questions I had. They also helped planned out any excursions, I was able to go to Blue Hole and it was great! V2 team is also very helpful with questions about the culture and the best transportation options to get around. I was not sure what to expect from my project before arriving, but I enjoyed it! I was able to help around the farm with different tasks, and I also bonded with the locals. I came back home feeling refreshed and happy that I was able to bond with locals and experience a different culture and a different pace of life. The farm is also in a very scenic place and I enjoyed being there. The owner of the farm was very friendly and answered any questions we had about the tasks she gave us. There is also the option to purchase lunch at the farm, which I did because I got to experience local, fresh, and delicious meals, with some ingredients from her farm or local vendors. I chose the dinner plan for the week, and all the meals were delicious and had variety. In my free time, I was able to check out the nearby beaches or go to town. It is easy to navigate the town with the route taxis, once you get used to them. I am glad I volunteered in Jamaica, and I am looking forward to volunteering more in the future.

I am Milena from Italy and I made 2 weeks of medical volunteer in Zambia in maramba clinic and it was an amazing experience. If I have to choose again a project I would choose this one with ivhq volunteer project. The organization let you feel at your home with a lot of friends, opportunities, learning that never stop. The medical project was amazing, in the clinic the let me do a lot of things on my own and I felt part of the team since the first day! If you have to change an organization go with ivhq and you will remember your time with them for all your life!

IVHQ was really helpful in preparing me for my program and answered any questions/concerns I had. They offer 24/7 support during your stay and they made me feel 100% comfortable. It's a really great experience for anyone!

Although I had 24/7 help available to me, I didn’t need it as everything ran smoothly and I felt very comfortable the whole time. I was able to learn about new cultures while also making a difference to the local community. It was a really great experience and I really recommend it to anyone!

My experience on the Medical mission in Zambia is truly amazing I can't even begin to describe this life changing trip ! The volunteering at the clinic was really hands on, and I learnt sooo much from the staff there, they were so involved and made sure we learnt as much as we could, helped as much as possible and let us feel welcomed ! I met amazing people there from whom I am so grateful for everything !!! This trip also allowed me to meet other volunteers from all around the world !! I made lifelongs friendships there, and I will always sherish the memories we made together in this adventure !!! Now the accommodation house was amazing !!! The staff and host were absolutely welcoming, always available for ANY questions or request we had !!! There were always in a cheerful mood, and made sure everything went well for each every one of us !!! I can't thank them enough !! Finally, Zambia is a beautiful country, the landscapes, the People, the culture are absolutely breathtaking ❤️ I would recommend this experience to anyone without a single hésitation, it was my first solo trip in volunteering, and never have I felt insecure or lost, IVHQ makes sure everything is well organised and guides you all the way !!! So yes, this is a unique experience that makes you grow, learn, evolve as à person like nothing else, and I would recommend it right away to anyone with the will to help, discover, learn and travel !!!

This was an amazing and fulfilling opportunity that allowed me to develop skills that have positively impacted my everyday life. The resources provided allowed for great support and advice when working on your project which enabled a great sense of accomplishment and productivity. The staff were amazing and always made you feel right at home and excited to start each day, the food, transportation, and accommodations were also amazing, especially considering the low cost. Overall this was an amazing opportunity and I genuinely could not criticize anything as everything was so organized and enjoyable.

I traveled with my son during this experience. I felt like every aspect of my concern was well taken care of. I felt totally safe doing this program. All the field managers and staff was very helpful throughout the process. The staff was amazing and we had a great experience. We will defintely travel with Maximo Nivel again. I just want to thank Ivan, Marisol who been with us throughout the process and Austin who was super helpful in making our experience such a memorable one. We truly appreciate it.

My volunteer experience at Green Lion in Bali was the best decision ever. Like any person in his first volunteer program, I was scared and had many questions regarding the program, the accommodation, and the food. But all these doubts disappear as soon you arrive there and feel the warm welcome of all the green lion family and of the many volunteers that would become lifetime friends. I would recommend to everybody to do the introduction week because you get to learn a lot about the culture, the village and most essential to know your group and make some friends. After the introduction, I completed three weeks of the environmental education program. The program was unique; most education programs are in the afternoon, with around 12 to 20 students per class (don't worry, usually two volunteers per course). The education program was the highlight of the afternoon. The classes are usually two hours long with a little break of 20-30 min. I would always recommend preparing your lessons. You can get many copies and materials as you need them at the volunteer house. Remember that you will work with kids between 10 and 12 years old, who take these lessons as additional education after all full day of class, so try to make your lessons as dynamic and fun as possible. The kids were fantastic, always happy to see us with smiles and even letters and some gifts. The mornings are free for you to make groups and explore the fantastic waterfalls around Ubud and the many temples. I would also recommend taking some adventurous excursions like the water rafting, the ATV ride, and my favorite, the hike to Mt Batur. The village is 20 min from Ubud downtown, where you can find plenty of restaurants, shopping, and many bars and clubs for those who love live music and some fun nights. I would recommend spending the weekend exploring the many islands outside Bali; Nusa Penida, Lombok, and Gili islands, paradise islands with clear waters, snorkeling with turtles, and Mantas. (there are plenty of drivers outside green lion who work directly with them and can take you anywhere, even with the excursions to the islands). Beautiful souls with a great attitude, the kitchen and cleaning staff for the tremendous job, the coordinators for their excellent help with the classes, and everybody at Green Lion. Thank you!

Volunteer project in Arusha was the best experience of my life. I met wonderful people, immerse in an unique culture and made a positive impact in a project that I care. It is also an affordable destination since the daily cost is really cheap. You have the opportunity to do a lot of activities, like amazing safaries, and discover this beautiful country. In Arusha, I was feeling safe and was taken care of. The local team is always available to answer your questions or help you with any insecurity. I will do it again for sure! If you are still hesitating, just do it :)

I recently completed the IVHQ medical program in Vietnam, and it has had an immense impact on me. This was my second medical program trip with IVHQ, and each one has given me knowledge and experience that I will carry with me throughout my medical studies and career! This is a perfect program for either groups or solo travelers, as you will meet so many other volunteers who share interests and love adventure as well! I can’t wait to start planning my next trip!

IVHQ was the best decision I made in 2021. I just graduated college COVID style and I was feeling a little stuck and conflicted on what my next step would be. I didn’t get to study abroad due to COVID and then I came across IVHQ and I thought this was perfect! I knew I wanted to travel and volunteer somewhere in Latin America and I knew I’d be doing this trip solo, so I looked at was IVHQ recommended for solo travelers and the Childcare project in Costa Rica instantly got my attention. I planned my trip only one month in advance. I did my individual research and asked all my questions with my IVHQ advisor and by the week before I left felt pretty prepared on what to expect during my trip. IVHQ emphasizes their 24/hr and they lived up to it. I felt well supported throughout my time in Costa Rica. The orientation was very thorough with providing us with information about our placements/transportation/ Costa Rica need to knows/ volunteer activities/ etc. We were also able to meet all the volunteers even if we had different projects. I met some of the best people through this experience! My time at the Daycare/School that I volunteered at was great! The language barrier was tough at times but the in-class teachers always tried to include me in the activities and care for the children. A new face in the classroom is something all the kids appreciated and I felt very welcomed. Outside of the volunteer work, I was able to spend my free time exploring and appreciating the culture in Costa Rica. I spent my weekends traveling to different parts of Costs Rica with some of the other volunteers. I also liked how our placements and IVHQ headquarters was in the center of the city so it was easy to explore San José. My program was short because I wanted to try out this program and see if it was trustworthy before I commit to multiple weeks at another destination. After my first experience with IVHQ, I already started saving for my next project with IVHQ! Overall my experience in Costa Rica was humbling yet liberating!

I spent 3 weeks in Peru this summer and it was the coolest experience of my life. I met so many amazing people and worked with some of the sweetest, more caring kids ever. I can’t wait to do more projects like this with IVHQ.

IVHQ made planning my trip so easy and straight forward. Their pre-program information packet answered just about every question I could have had. They also connected me to the local team in South Africa (Outreach2Enrich) very early on. The local team went above and beyond to provide support and a sense of community throughout my stay. They were quick to answer any communications and were open with the volunteers. The team also helped facilitate plans for other activities in Cape Town that I probably would have never done on my own. Overall, the team in South Africa was really what made my experience so great. They truly care for their programs (sports development, surfing, child care and teaching) and for their volunteers and it shows. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone considering it.

This has definitely been the best experience I’ve had in my life and in this review I will tell you why. On my first day I was really nervous, because it was my first time traveling all on my own and obviously this scared me a lot, but as the days passed that fear turned into joy, happiness and love. Everything in my time as a volunteer was jut perfect, starting with the accommodation, a perfectly located and really clean house with enough space for everyone. Then, our adviser Renae, who was always kind and willing to help us in every aspect that she could. Moving on to the food, I can say that I enjoyed every single meal from my month in South Africa, I got to try new things and I absolutely loved it. Finally, the kids from the childcare program, I can’t explain with words everything that those kids taught me. From the very first day I walked into the classroom they drowned me with love and kindness and the best part is that every day was the exact same thing, no matter what was the situation at their homes, they always walked into the school with a big smile and willing to transmit all their love to everyone. I can say that going into this volunteering program was the best decision I have ever made, I learned and lived incredible things and I think that this is an experience that everyone should have, I will definitely recommend this and my time in South Africa will stay in my heart forever.

As a first time solo traveller I was extremely nervous. But I immediately felt right at home and had the time of my life, everything was organised, everyone was so friendly and helpful, staff really went above and beyond to make sure everyone was taken care of. Met some amazing friends and had life-changing travel experiences, I couldn't recommend it enough.

I had an amazing time taking part in the turtle conservation project in Sri Lanka. Although in my first week there were times when we had completed the tasks quickly so had some idle time with not a lot to do, during my second week I was the only volunteer, which meant I had much more involvement with the turtles and got to spend more time with them. I also got to release hatchlings into the sea, which was the most incredible experience and one I will never forget. It is a very relaxed project but also meaningful and rewarding - definitely something I would recommend! My hosts were lovely and took amazing care of me, and although being the only volunteer for my second week meant the social scene was not quite what I had expected, I did feel this allowed me to have more interaction with the locals and by the end of my time there felt very welcome and very much part of the local community, which was particularly comforting as I was there during a lot of political and economic uncertainty.

I have just completed my two weeks of doing volunteering in Jamaica. This was my second time volunteering and I loved it just as much as my first time. I have spent two weeks helping out at a local kindergarten and I don’t think I could have spent my time in Jamaica any better. The IVHQ Team is super welcoming and friendly and is really doing their best for the volunteers to feel like home. I was also super happy with my project as I felt like I really was part of a family there. I loved getting to know the culture in such a unique way whilst giving back to the community. I spent every morning at my project and then came back in the evening for a game of Volleyball that I was invited to. On Sunday I was invited to church which was also such a unique experience. I am so grateful for the time I have had and the people I met. The children have such a positive energy and they made me look forward to every day at my project. Seeing their happy faces at the Gate upon my arrival is something I will definitely forever keep in my memories and that I will really miss. Spending time volunteering in a country really is extremely different to just traveling to those places. I would definitely recommend everyone to try it.

I had an amazing time in during my volunteer experience with ivhq. Not only did I had the opportunity to make an impact in a community, but I also met wonderful people as well as challenged my self to develop new soft skills. The program was super well organized, and the accommodation, the food and the hosts were amazing. I recommend this agency to everyone that is interested in doing a volunteer abroad, you will not regret it.

I recently completed my first 3 week volunteer trip to Romania this last may . And omg what an experience!!! I never heard of ivhq until I worked with a coworker and she lead me to this company! They where always on the ball very easy to get In touch with . Any concerns /issues about my travel it was all in website. I was supposed to go 2 years ago but unfortunately the world shut down. But I eventually got to go! The local Romanian crew I worked with was more then Amazing! I actually told the director that they making it hard to have to leave ! They were soooooo accommodating. I met a lot of really cool people from all over the world ! I can’t wait to go back but I wanna also try out other places ;) !!!

I had an amazing experience during my volunteering in Jamaica , the local team prepared us well for the experience and I was well supported through out. It was great seeing the difference between the Jamaican school and the schools in the UK and i was able to learn a lot from the experience. The way the programme worked also allowed us time to visit the local beauty spots and learn about Jamaican Culture..

My time here was a special and unforgettable experience. I met such wonderful and friendly people from the other volunteers and staff to the locals. Before coming I had no idea I would see such beautiful sunrises and sunsets or see so many animals entirely wild so very close to us! Some highlights include camping in the bush and dancing around the campfire to local songs after a brilliant campfire cooked dinner. Another highlight was belting out Valerie as my karaoke song with all the other volunteers. I have made friends for life and so many more future trips in the hopes of finding another time and place that gives off a feeling like this one did.

The experience was amazing :) The local staff were very nice and helpful and my host family was the most welcoming and accommodating family ever. With the 'rural' experience, it was very interesting to get a sneak peek into the daily lives of the local people, rather than staying at a volunteer house. The teaching itself was definitely not easy but it was a great experience to get to interact with the kids and the local teachers.

I had so much fun and was able to be totally immersed in the culture with the help of our hosts! The program managers were so understanding and helpful I never once had a problem. Highly recommend this company!!

I volunteered at Nakavango in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, as part of the IVHQ Wildlife Conservation Project. It truly was one of the highlights of my life. And I’ve had some pretty remarkable experiences so that says a lot. The staff a Nakavango was incredible and extremely knowledgeable. They create the perfect balance of hard work and joyous moments playing with the children at Masuwe School, observing wildlife in the bush, and taking in the sights of one of the seven wonders of the world. We each had our own room, were provided three yummy meals a day with great care to accommodate those who have special diets. Highlights of my stay included morning and evening game drives, sitting around the fire pit under the stars, camping out in the bush, and completing a work task feeling that we had made progress on a project. Yet, the most outstanding aspect of this experience for me, was bonding with my fellow volunteers. Prior to arriving at Nakavango, I thought I’d be the senior member of the crew so I was a bit apprehensive even though I had worked for weeks to get in shape physically so I could contribute equally. Well, I wasn’t the most senior. In fact, we had a wonderful range of ages, nationalities, and personalities. We became a family, caring for and respectful of all. That truly blew me away. And now, we continue to stay in touch. I am so grateful for the IVHQ program at Nakavango. It changed my life!

I was accepted to volunteer in Jamaica with International Volunteer HQ (June 2022). The application process was very clear and all the guidance materials provided were really helpful and informative. I was really impressed with the level of support from both Merran and the local team in Jamaica. As I reflect on an amazing two week experience in St Mary Parish, I’m not even sure where to begin. I had the opportunity to cherish some beautiful moments at breathtaking sceneries with the most incredible individuals and share some unforgettable memories. I had the privilege of teaching the wonderful, lively and content children of Faith Builders. Not only did these children teach me so much in such a short time but, have inspired me to create changes in my own behaviors and view life from a different perspective. They have taught me the importance of appreciation for everything in life and to find happiness in the little things. The teachers inspired a passion for learning in the children all the while not always having the ample resources or access to technology most other schools take for granted. A big thank you to all the staff members at Faith Builders ECC for involving me in the learning and cultural activities. The teaching and school support experience truly was emotionally rewarding, it has been a humbling experience and certainly the right decision! Thank you Jamaica! One love! I was able to decide on the tours and activities that were of interest to me when I arrived and met the other volunteers. Some of these tours and activities include Blue Hole, the Luminous Lagoon and Green Grotto Caves and Jamaican cooking classes. All these activities took place in the first week of the program and were organized well in advance with updates sent on the Jamaica volunteer group chat so that we were able to plan meet ups with the other volunteers after work. I especially enjoyed immersing myself in the Jamaican culture by supporting the local community at the street markets, restaurants and providing resources for the children to use in the schools. For example, purchasing Jamaican attire from the local markets and including this into my daily attire and buying fresh fruits from the side roads to eat at lunchtime. Some of the resources that I took along on the trip were coloring materials, coloring books, stickers, sweets and other toys. The class were able to use these during coloring tasks and enjoy the sweets on their last day which was also, the key stage 3 class's graduation day onto Primary School. I was part of the meal plan during the weekdays, for both weeks, which includes breakfast and dinner and this was more than enough for me. The cook catered for vegetarian and gluten-free meals. We were provided with hot, traditional meals along with refreshing juices at 5pm Monday to Friday. A few of the dishes included rice and beans, steamed vegetables, jerk chicken, and salad. The meal portions were perfect and simply delicious! I would definitely recommend signing up for the meal plan, you won't regret it! The hosts were simply brilliant! They all encouraged responsible travel, ensured that we were well looked-after during our programs and that we were enjoying the volunteering experience as a whole. I loved my time in Belize! I always had people to talk to if I had questions or concerns and the staff were very helpful. They kept us informed about what we were doing and why we were doing it so we felt like we were making a difference. We had the opportunity to see lots of different marine life which was amazing and it was very beautiful there. The only thing I didn't love about the program was the bathroom accommodation. There were 4 of us sharing a very small bathroom so it got dirty fast

I could have not asked for a better time working with cats in Rome. I feel like I contributed so much to the animal shelter. Whether it was cleaning out them litter box, washing bowls, or changing there food, I always made sure that the cats were being taken care of to the full extent. I gained a lot of responsible etiquette skills, which I will never loose.

I just came back from my 2 and a half month trip volunteering in Lisbon, Portugal, and I just have to say that it was one of the best experiences I am ever going to have in my life. I had the chance to volunteer in three different programs: Youth Support, Animal Care (cats) and Homeless Support; the three of them were really enriching experiences. The accommodation is also super nice and comfortable, and the staff their made it feel like home. I also met lots of people from different parts of the world and made really nice friends. Overall, volunteering with IVHQ is something that I would certainly do again.

Amazing volunteering experience with IVHQ! I spent three months in Arusha, Tanzania, in the teaching program. Those three months were the most incredible and wonderful ones. I learned so many things about human beings and about me. The links I have bond with the people there are going to be in my heart forever. I would jump on the plane right now if had more free time to go again. I recommend this experience to anyone who wants to give its time to people in need. Thank you so much Tanzania. I couldn't recommend this volunteering programme enough! For anyone looking to make instant impacts in environmental conservation, whilst meeting amazing people, then this is the place for you. I was greeted by the amazing Estefania, she ensured that my trip went as smoothly as possible and was always there if I needed anything. A huge shoutout to Juan and Yvette, they made the experience one that I will never forget. They were so helpful, letting me get stuck in with whatever I was comfortable doing and always made sure that they were taking the time to educate us. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I highly recommend :)

IVHQ was not only affordable but very straightforward with the program and how they do things. I enjoyed my stay in Portugal and working with kids so much planning to do another program with them. 11/10 the best and most affordable international volunteering program.

I loved volunteering on the childcare programme in Sri Lanka in April/May 2022. Volunteering in a preschool felt very rewarding as I was able to watch the children learn and develop their English skills while interacting with both teachers and volunteers. When I wasn’t volunteering, there was always lots of things to get involved in and the local team were always happy to help organise trips to do in your free time. One of my favourite activities was feeding and washing elephants at a sanctuary.

Taught English and Woman Empowerment in Kerala , India . Terrific experience in improving students English abilities . A lot of constructive time spent discussing the differences in Western and Indian culture and customs . Also found time to visit Mumbai and the Golden Triangle . Great country and people.

Life changing experience that made me a better person. IVHQ took care of me the second I was accepted for the program. Step by step preparations, and all required info I needed for the trip was given to me on a silver platter :). The moment I landed in and until I left Zambia I felt taken care of and safe. I will travel and volunteer with IVHQ again and I would recommend it to anyone who plans to volunteer for the first time in a new country or volunteer first time all together. I volunteered in New Orleans through IVHQ for Recirculating farms (Environmental sustainability program). This was truly an amazing and eye-opening experience for me, traveling abroad, alone, meeting new people, and feeling like making even a slight difference. I highly recommend people apply. The IVQH team was extremely efficient and supportive and I definitely felt safe preparing and going on this trip. The location and accommodation were also topnotch! Absolutely incredible life changing experience. I met the most amazing people and had such an authentic genuine experience really immersing myself in the culture. The homestay was such a beautiful welcoming family. The volunteer placement was walking distance from our home and was such a loving school to work in.

I had an incredible and awesome medical experience at the 1A hospital in Saigon. The faculty and staff at the hospital were very friendly and approachable! The Green Lion team was always with me to answer any question arise and very supportive throughout my entire time in Vietnam.

This trip was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Entering the program, I was worried that I would have trouble making friends or meeting anyone that I could get along with during my time in a foreign country. In the end, I had no reason to worry, everyone I met during this trip was so kind and friendly and like minded. I will never forget everyone I met thanks to this experience, they will be friends for life. The volunteering itself was amazing too, Croatia is such a beautiful country and a great location for the program. Not to mention the hostel was amazing. I went during early spring and it was a great time, it wasn’t too hot and it wasn’t tourist season which was perfect. Everyone that was a part of the program was so helpful and accommodating and the hours I spent at the shelter were so worthwhile. The shelter was a great environment and it provided lots of opportunities to try and improve the lives of the animals there. I definitely plan to do another program with IVHQ. Overall this was such an amazing experience and I will never forget it, I only wish I had stayed longer!

I worked with volunteer HQ and wow! I literally had 24/7 support from all my instructors and superiors. The students were always engaged in my schools and the gratitude they showed me every day made me feel like I made a difference. The food is absolutely fantastic in Romania and the culture immersion is such a blast. I was taken around the city by a few high schoolers who just talked and talked it was such a cool experience. The locals keep to themselves but are willing to chat if you approach them. Getting mocked by 3rd graders WASNT my idea of fun until it happened every day. These kids are so bright and welcoming it makes you hope to see them every day.

This trip was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Entering the program, I was worried that I would have trouble making friends or meeting anyone that I could get along with during my time in a foreign country. In the end, I had no reason to worry, everyone I met during this trip was so kind and friendly and like minded. I will never forget everyone I met thanks to this experience, they will be friends for life. The volunteering itself was amazing too, Croatia is such a beautiful country and a great location for the program. Not to mention the hostel was amazing. I went during early spring and it was a great time, it wasn’t too hot and it wasn’t tourist season which was perfect. Everyone that was a part of the program was so helpful and accommodating and the hours I spent at the shelter were so worthwhile. The shelter was a great environment and it provided lots of opportunities to try and improve the lives of the animals there. I definitely plan to do another program with IVHQ. Overall this was such an amazing experience and I will never forget it, I only wish I had stayed longer!

The best experience of my life. This is how I would describe my time in Rio. I'm 24 years old and I have never travelled before. With it being my first time I wanted something organised. I stumbled across IVHQ after some time on Google. From the moment I emailed them enquiring about volunteering right through until my return from Rio they have been perfect. Communication, support and guidance from start to finish. I had minimal nerves before going out to Rio because of the support I was given pre departure. The trip itself was epic. My sports coaching programme involved me playing football with local Brazilian boys and girls. They taught me a lesson in football that's for sure. The set up of IVHQ allowed me also to meet 4 other volunteers once I arrived who were working on various other projects. We became very close friends and I ended up travelling around Brazil with them after my volunteering was over. Thank you IVHQ. You made my first travelling trip as perfect as it could have been.

Great location. Accommodation very close by and a good clean environment. Food was varied and very very good. Project was a little disjointed due to the frequent power cuts. Spent days cleaning the Turtles and their tanks. Clearing litter from the beach, mending fences and collecting seaweed. Feeding consisted of chopping up fish and feeding that and seaweed to the Turtles. Ambalangoda is a great location for visiting the coasts areas around the South West of Sri Lanka.

The project that I was assigned to was clearly outlined before I arrived at the destination. I enjoyed the hostel and the local community. The environment of the location was pleasant and I was able to be immersed in their culture. The volunteering projects had a short and long-term impact on the future of the organization's mission. I had a good work-life balance and the organization I was working for was very accommodating to the volunteer's needs. I was able to explore the community and the coordinator provided excellent trips. I highly recommend IVHQ for my trips and I feel comfortable in the future booking with IVHQ. The company does the heavy lifting and planning to make sure volunteers are with the best local team. The team also goes above and beyond and cares about all the volunteers.

My name is Mike O’ Neill from Ireland and I’m 16 years old and in March 2022 I volunteered with IVHQ for 1 week in Lisbon in Portugal doing youth support. I decided to volunteer in Portugal as it is close to home for covid- 19 restrictions. I went with a friend from school as we both wanted to make a difference in the world while seeing a new place. IVHQ was so helpful with pre departure information and there was someone always willing to answer any questions I had. IVHQ emailed me a 12 step process to help me prepare without forgetting anything. When we arrived in Lisbon we were collected by the organisation and brought to our accommodation. The accommodation was amazing as it was so clean, it had amazing food and everyone there was so friendly. I’ve never met people so kind and willing to help. On the 1st day we met 5 new people from Columbia, USA, England, Germany and Netherlands. We had free time on the 1st day so we all went for a walk and got to know each other. On the 2nd day we had orientation and we got to meet all the staff and all the volunteers. There were 14 nationalities. We got a presentation about the area and our volunteering programmes. We got all the tips when it comes to transport, food and money etc. After our presentation we all got tuk tuk tours around the city. After that we had free time and our friend group went out for Mexican food. At this stage we were all really good friends. The next four days myself and my friend Max we’re volunteering in a centre with underprivileged children teaching them maths, English, geography and history. We also got to do boxing with them in the boxing club. It was one of the most fulfilling times of my life and I felt like I’ve made an impact in their lives. In the evenings of the week about 8 of my friends and I went out for food and clubbing and really bonded. Myself and my friend decided to stay an extra 2 nights. On the weekends we have free time so on Saturday we all went out for breakfast and explored more of the city and went out at night and on Sunday I visited my cousins who live in Lisbon as my uncle is the Irish embassador to Portugal. It was very emotional leaving the following week as we had gotten to know everyone so well. It was the best holiday I’ve ever been on and I’ve made life long friends. In May I’m returning to Lisbon to visit some of the friends. And in July I’m meeting 2 other friends in NYC to catch up. I can’t describe how amazing this trip was and it was a great cultural experience and personal growth. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves travelling and volunteering no matter your age.

My time with IVHQ was unforgettable. I got to experience a new culture, meet lots of interesting people that became lifelong friends, and most importantly help communities that were in need. It is an experience that will stay with me for a very long time.

Experience of a lifetime! As a 60 year old my biggest regret is NOT volunteering earlier in life! I am already looking forward to my next volunteer service. Our Hosts were fabulous. Once on the island our Hosts were there for our every need. They stayed in constant contact, a text away if you needed any help or guidance. The living quarters was perfectly maintained. Our volunteers living in the house ranged from ages 18-65 and everyone looked after each other. As a retired US educator, I was so impressed with the dedication of the teachers in the school I did my volunteer service. They inspired a passion for learning in the Jamaican children all the while not always having the ample supplies or access to technology most other schools take for granted. The children will steal a bit of your heart! This experience allowed us to live amongst the locals , enabling us to truly experience the Jamaican way of life.! Jamaican people are kind and caring! One Love!

I had the best time of my life on this trip. Meeting new people, visiting a new country and spending time with nature all while doing work to help sustain the natural environment. Staying on a private Island in the middle if the Caribbean Sea, hunting lion fish and learning about their anatomy, playing volleyball (it gets very competitive) and then also being able to learn about the environment through the presentations that we have daily, some of which I got to present. I highly recommend this program and don't worry about going alone, because I did this alone and I felt comfortable from the first day, I've made some lifelong friends and experiences from this trip and you will to.

Having taken early retirement I was a little apprehensive in going on my first volunteer mission . My experience with IVHQ , teaching in Cambodia could not have gone better. So much so that I have just completed my second volunteer programme in Sri Lanka . Age is no barrier. I have signed up for India next , followed by Vietnam . Is such a rewarding experience helping locals and getting to understand their culture.

I went through IVHQ to Livingstone, Zambia to volunteer in a home for the Elderly. My IVHQ coordinator helped me navigate through things before I went and the local coordinator took over once I was there - If I needed help or guidance, one of them was able to help. Covid didn't make it that easy but as long as you do your research and make sure you comply with the countries you travel through, its not too bad. I was welcomed into the care home by the local staff from day one and I helped with meals, showering and cleaning ,which I found really rewarding. My aim was to brighten someone's day everyday and I'd like to think I achieved it! At the volunteer house I was provided 3 meals a day if I wanted them, the accommodation was basic but comfortable and clean and the staff can't do enough for you - by the time I left I would consider them friends, they are such lovely people. I went as a 50 year old solo traveler so I can vouch for the fact this isn't something only people on gap years do, everyone makes friends with someone while you are there and I was lucky enough to be a with a group who all bonded and we went from 29-70years!! If you want to make a difference and volunteer through IVHQ in Zambia here are the reasons I think you should: I tried to make a difference to people who need help and love, I walked with a pride of lions, I witnessed the beauty and power of Victoria Falls, I sunbathed with Zebra, I slept under the stars, I danced in the Zambian rain, I laughed, I cried and I had the time of my life. This is the best way to see and experience another country - just do it!

My vet care volunteer experience with IVHQ Jamaica was simply one of the best times in my life. The communication up front was great with Merran at IVHQ and on the ground with Jade and her team at V2 Volunteers in Jamaica. The volunteer house and property was well equipped, comfortable and we were all very well cared for. I have made some great friends there from all around the world and I will be visiting one later this year! My time at the vet clinic with Dr. Cole and her team was also outstanding, I learned so much. It was truly an unforgettable, enriching, life changing experience. I cannot say enough good things about the program and the experience. I will definitely be doing future trips with IVHQ.

This was my first volunteer experience. Renae, Ben and Izzy of Outreach 2 Enrich were terrific hosts. The camaraderie with the other volunteers was excellent. We did many activities together like watching the sunset on Signal Hill, renting a car and driving to the Cape of Hope, seeing the penguins on Border beach, walking and having lunch in Bo Kaap to name just a few of the activities. The best part of volunteering was the opportunity to work with and teach the children from the Capricorn and surrounding townships. It had its challenging moments but overall very rewarding. The pre-school kids are so pure and innocent. They give their trust and instant love and affection. It can sometimes be very overwhelming when >10 of them want to hug you at the same time. The 5 graders I taught had its challenges. At times I felt I was more the enforcer than the teacher, but at the end we were able to establish a mutual respect and had a great time together. I miss the teachers and students and hope to come back to Cape Town to see them again. There is nothing more rewarding than making the people around you smile. If you are interested in seeing the beautiful Mother City, Cape Town, IVHQ is a great organization to work with to experience giving back surrounded by absolute beauty.

This was my second time volunteering with IVHQ on a marine conservation program. I was in the first cohort of volunteers to come to Jamaica after Covid so our group was small and the programs were just getting back on their feet. Nonetheless, it was a great experience - I got to dive almost every day and do meaningful work on the coral reef like building coral nurseries and removing invasive species. I also got to contribute to the Whiteriver fish sanctuary by writing the August newsletter and getting involved with community outreach. I really enjoyed the company of the locals I got to engage with and learn from at work, everyone was extremely kind and fun to be around. Jamaica is a breathtakingly beautiful and diverse island, so I would suggest making the most out of your time there by exploring it as much as possible on the weekends or whenever you have some free time. The highlight for me was visiting Negril, a town on the west point of the island - great for diving (contact Scuba Dive Jamaica, Michael is a great diving instructor), food and sunsets. As for the volunteer accommodation, you stay in a proper house with a kitchen, 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms with bunk beds, and a common area as well as a very large garden. There is no AC so it can get pretty hot and humid especially at night, but that's all part of the experience! I would recommend this program to anyone seeking to get out of their comfort zone, get adventurous and do something meaningful for the planet and the people with their time.

My experience in Ghana was amazing. The people in Ghana are the friendliest people ever, and I got to meet some really wonderful fellow volunteers. The program leaders were also amazing. They were very flexible and wanted us to experience other programs if that was what we wanted, so I ended up doing construction and renovation, childcare and teaching, and also medical, in addition to agriculture! It was a lot of fun to get to do so many different things. I left with an incredible amount of diverse experiences for only spending around 2 weeks there. Highly recommend!

Good time in Kruger. If you enjoy community living, data gathering, being outdoors, and seeing wildlife then this is the project for you. I would especially recommend this project to anyone looking to do research or work as anything wildlife related, i.e. wildlife ecology, conservation, etc. Not for everyone, we heard a story of someone who "did not like animals or being outside..." If you are this person, choose a different experience. If you love animals and being outside, this is for you.

The volunteer activity I signed up for was called Food Reclamation. As my first time with IVHQ, I decided to volunteer for one week. The volunteer program coordinator picked me up at the airport, spoke English very well, and gave us a good orientation to the hostel, the city, and the volunteer site. I was impressed by the professionalism and helpfulness of the IVHQ staff. They were always ‘cleaning’ the eating environment (dining room) and housing area of the hostel. My program location was staged out of a warehouse. We collected food, repackaged it, and dispersed it to families in need. The work was hard, but I always felt good when I was done each day.

Volunteering with Reef CI in Belize is truly a magical experience. Everyone on the program, both volunteers and staff members, make it feel like home. The scuba dive certification programs are perfectly designed to make you feel comfortable while learning how to responsibly carry out this activity and be the help that is needed to protect the barrier reef. It was so interesting to learn about the importance of removing invasive species like the lion fish, a species that has no natural predator and is wreaking the coral reefs in the Caribbean and Golf of Mexico. Learning about the importance of joining the fight against lion fish was eyeopening. For us at the Reef CI base lion fish were the bulk of our diet. Additionally, we cut and dried their fins and venomous spines to make jewelry and provide an additional income to locals in affected areas. The accommodation provided in the island was very comfortable and the food was amazing!!! If you are looking to get disconnected from the world while helping an incredible cause, the volunteering program is Belize is for you.

After our original marine conservation program in Madagascar was cancelled due to the pandemic, IVHQ continued their excellent program management and helped us transfer our fees to a new program in Belize. Our contact with our IVHQ Program Manager Molly was infrequent but when we needed her, she was a short email away. IVHQ's partner in Belize - ReefCI - provided an awesome experience. We learned about lionfish - an invasive fish species around the Caribbean Barrier Reef - and we spend most of our dives hunting and spearing them. What a great experience, and they're tasty too! We also performed beach cleanup and were informed and educated about other relevant environmental topics in the region, specifically plastic pollution in the ocean. Thanks to IVHQ and ReefCI for running first rate operations.

My time spent working as a volunteer at the Panthera Sanctuary is now a foundational cornerstone of who I am. The experience was fun, exciting, and incredibly valuable. If you are at all passionate about conservation, or if you just like learning about nature then this program is certainly for you.

I had a wonderful experience in San Diego. My team and coordinator were very supportive. I really enjoyed working with the homeless population and learning new things everyday. So far this has been one of the best experiences of my life. I hope I can volunteer again!

The people of New Orleans live up to the well known nickname .. The Big Easy! As the community is recovering from the devastating effects of recent hurricanes the people of New Orleans continue to approach daily living with a positive and caring attitude.

I absolutely loved volunteering at Nakavango! Amazing food cooked by the two chefs on site and handpicked food from the garden on the premise. Clean and comfortable rooms, and I felt safe the whole time on site. We did arduous yet rewarding work Monday to Friday, and even camping and sunset picnics! Weekends we off, where we got downtime and opportunities to do thrill-seeking adventures in town. 10/10 would recommend this to anyone, especially solo travelers!

The volunteering experience was amazing, the kids and local staff that we worked with could not have been more welcoming and kind. I shared a house with over 20 people, everyone was so amazing and kind. There is immense amounts of flexibility in programming and scheduling as well. Renae, the program leader is exceptional and really does an amazing job in the Muizenberg community.

On my first IVHQ trip 2 years ago in Ghana, I quickly realized that it would not be my last. Now 2 years later after Kenya and Tanzania, South Africa was my 4th. Living in the same volunteer house with 20 or more outstanding adults from around the world was truly awe-inspiring, The camaraderie of all the volunteers quickly established a bond between us. And our local hosts, Renae, Ben and Issy treated us like family. The care free and cheerful children in the schools, on the soccer field and on the beaches made it an unforgettable experience. Add the weekend excursions to Capetown, to Table Mountain, to Cape Point/Cape of Good Hope and IVHQ becomes an unforgettable experience. I'm looking forward to my next adventure next spring to Madagascar (Ocean Outreach) and Jordan (Food Outreach) Julien Comeau, Canada, age 77

I absolutely loved my childcare program even though it was ridiculously short. I wish I signed up for at least 2 weeks. However, that’s a lesson for next time. The kids were such sweethearts; they welcomed me with open arms. I cannot appreciate them enough. Also, Senora Lesby and her husband embraced me like I was one of their own. At the host family’s house, Julio and his girlfriend provided all of the volunteers with amazing food. We all experienced different food every single day. Our hosts also gave great recommendations of what to visit and try in La Antigua Guatemala. Overall, my first solo trip was an amazing one thanks to all the people involved with IVHQ and Maximo Nivel.

I could spend 2 weeks in Lima to support a local community. I didn't realize the privilege I was born with till my volunteer work. Because having social security, nature around us, and breathing fresh air are privileged life circumstances that we should give more credit for. Too often we underestimate things that are in our life. The volunteer program made me realize this. It made me realize that not everyone was born to beautiful places and if you were, nothing can be more selfless and beautiful than helping others who cant say the same. We took care of children who were so loving, they shared so easily, they didn't know how much they taught us about life. I will try to always remember this and returning to volunteer again, as soon as I can. for this, I am glad, IVHQ exists, because without this organization, my life wouldn't change. As a future volunteer, you should know, these people are happy for the fact, that YOU, out there in the big world, trying to reach them out, you give your heart and time to show them some love, attention. You cannot change immediately their life, you might feel, you don't do enough while you volunteer, but you should know and understand, that the act of kindness does move mountains.

I just returned from a 2 week medical volunteering program in Cusco, Peru through IVHQ. As someone who is extremely interested in international public health, I had high expectations for this experience. As dangerous as high expectations can be, all of mine (and many more) were exceeded in these 2 weeks. Not only was I able to learn from the incredibly knowledgeable healthcare professionals in Cusco, but my understanding of the culture was expanded more than I could have hoped for. I was worried that 2 weeks would be a lot, but I know that next time I go, it will have to be for more! I didn’t want to leave. The support from IVHQ was unparalleled, and I consider myself very fortunate for having this experience and learning so much!

My volunteer trip to Croatia went perfectly well; the organizers were incredibly kind and through this experience, I was able to meet some amazing people, with whom I made some very strong friendships. However, I was only in Croatia for one week and I think it should be stated on the website that one week is not enough for the marine conservation program. Indeed, since I was not at all qualified in diving, teaching me all the basics took the whole week and I had very little opportunity to pick up trash on the ocean floor. Nevertheless, I still insist that it was an extraordinary experience and one that I will remember for the rest of my life!

I volunteered in Colombia for 3 weeks doing the Community Development program. This program was amazing and I can definitely say that I got a lot out of it! I worked with children building connections with them by doing arts and crafts and teaching them English. This also helped me to build my Spanish skills as well. I liked that this program allowed me to see all parts of the country, the good and bad, allowing me to appreciate it much more. I was able to connect with locals and see aspects of the culture more than I would if I were just a tourist in the country. My favorite part was that on my last day working with the kids, they wrote a letter for me and took the time to translate it to English since my Spanish is not the best! I 10/10 would recommend this program to anyone looking for a life changing experience!

Despite the heat, I had an amazing time volunteering in New Orleans. My accommodation was great, my schedule was perfect, and I felt very supported throughout my trip. The work was very gratifying and it felt great to give back to the community. Everyone I worked with was super super kind and gracious, and I really enjoyed getting to know all the other volunteers at my work site. The food is INCREDIBLE, so that was definitely a huge plus. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a meaningful and fun volunteering experience!

My trip to Quito was one I will never forget, I am a teacher in the States and I really wanted to go out of the country and give back. I never could have imagined what I was walking in to. The kids and staff are wonderful and very appreciative of ever volunteer there. The community is awesome and the children are even better. All of these children deserve a chance to dream and have goals and I think by doing our part they can see they can do much more with their lives. I plan to do more things like this, but this trip I will never forget.

This experience changed my life forever by introducing me to new cultures and people, as well as changing my perspective on the rest of the world. IVHQ's program was amazing and their employees were awesome in helping us volunteers, I loved every second of this trip.

If I were to describe this experience in only one word I would say it was mind-opening. It has helped me evolve from so many points of view. Not only did I learn to be more independent and choose for myself, but I also I got to know amazing hard-working people. I managed to do my project and build friendships with the other volunteers. I felt that I truly belonged to that world and I was devastated when I had to leave. The program was simply marvellous. I can say I got to live one of the best moments of my life when I encountered an octopus that gripped my hand. I have never felt something like that ever before. I think that this experience helped me grow a lot and made me understand how beautiful and unique the marine world really is. Furthermore, I managed to learn new things about a foreign culture and I loved exploring different parts of Lisbon on my own and with other volunteers. Even more, the staff was so kind and helpful that I almost felt part of their family. All in all, I find it incredible that even after a month I still think about those moments and me and the other volunteers are still keeping in touch. Now, all I want to do is embark in a similar adventure as soon as possible.

As a current medical student, I always listened to doctors talk about going overseas to volunteer in understaffed clinics. It sounded interesting but I was not sure if it was something I would be into or not. I figured I would volunteer in a clinic in Guatemala for a week and see what it was like. I wished I had booked longer. Much longer. In the beginning, the instructions are few but concise, so make sure to follow them closely. Once you get there, you have more support than you know what to do with. They answer all your questions, make sure you are set up with everything you need, and even offer activities to draw you closer with the culture. My experience in the clinic was amazing. We opened up a clinic that had closed due to covid. Many patients who we saw had chronic conditions that had gone untreated during covid. It was incredible to be able to help them, small or large in scale. None of the patients spoke English, so brush up on that Espanol!!

Last month, I returned from a week-long medical project in San Jose, Costa Rica. To say that it was one of the best experiences I've ever had is not an exaggeration! My program manager and the pre-departure IVHQ team were very kind and attentive to my questions. They provided ample resources to ensure my preparation for the trip, including COVID-19 safety procedures while in-country. Upon arrival to Costa Rica, the in-country team was extremely helpful and present for my every need! My homestay family was kind and clean, and the food was great. I also made some good friends along the way. My only complaint would be with the medical project itself. Although everyone at the site was very sweet, welcoming, and knowledgeable, they seemed unprepared to take on an IVHQ volunteer. I was left multiple times standing around with nothing to do, even after continuously asking if I could help with or participate in anything. Besides this minor detail, I had an incredible experience and would recommend volunteering with IVHQ to everyone!

I love to travel and lately I've been interested in giving back to the countries I visit. In 2020 I was an English tutor in Honduras through another agency, and I got hooked! Since that agency isn't taking volunteers due to Covid, I found that IVHQ was, so in February I started the application process and paid my fees. By March I had a position in Antigua, Guatemala, caring for horses. I fell in love with them, even though it was hot outside and could be hard manual labor grooming them. The exercise was good for me and I also did a ton of walking. My house mom was gracious and welcomed me in. My house mates were equally gracious. The local people were welcoming. I had to speak Spanish most places, and that was fine. It was good for me. The food, volcanos and other activities were worth the time and money. I cried my last day because I knew I'd miss the horses and the stable hands I worked with. I am very tempted to go back doing the same thing sometime soon, but I also want to see other countries. I can't do everything. IVHQ and their partner company Maximo Nivel worked very well together. The logistics were smooth. I had no trouble assimilating. I will use IVHQ again. I'm just not sure if my next application will be working with horses or another country.

Absolutely life changing!!! My friend and I volunteered for a week in Guatemala teaching English to children ages 5-12. Not only is Guatemala beautiful but everything about the IVHQ experience was amazing. Airport pickup was prompt safe and secure, our host family were so welcoming and the house was gorgeous. Teaching was out of this world! The kids were so precious and smart and so happy to have us there as well! 10/10 by far and already booked again with IVHQ to volunteer on a sea turtle conservation bc my IVHQ 1 st experience was outstanding! Recommend to anyone looking to give back, travel, and experience life outside of our own

I volunteered with IVHQ Tanzania in the medical project. It was such an amazing and unforgettable experience! I learned a lot not only in the medical field but also as a person. I returned home with so many beautiful memories and the people I met will always have a place in my heart. I would recommend this program with IVHQ to everyone who is longing for adventure and new cultures. You definitely won’t regret it.

I had a really great time and I strongly recommend people to go! They are a lot of beautiful places in Costa Rica and it's always really cool to meet new people! I am very thankful with IVHQ and Maximo Nivel for this incredible experience.

It's so rare that you spontaneously decide to do a trip like volunteering abroad with IVHQ, and all of your expectations are not only met, but wildly exceeded. From the moment I signed up for my trip to Costa Rica, I experienced timely communication from my Program Manager, who often responded to all of my emails with questions and concerns within 24 hours. Upon arrival in Costa Rica, I was met by a representative of the local team who drove me from the airport to my homestay (also, my host family was incredible, friendly, helpful, and served incredible food). During orientation, I learned everything I needed to know, including safety and culture. On the first day of my project, a local team member rode the bus with me to my project to make sure I knew the way and introduce me to the project staff, whom were very friendly and appreciative of the support. I am so impressed by my whole experience. My only regret is I wish that I had volunteered longer! My trip went by way too quickly, and I can't express how grateful I am for this experience and the people I met. Doing a trip with IVHQ is something you won't regret!

Absolutely life changing. The people, the culture the environment are incredible, Antigua was very safe when i was there, The children instantly love you as soon as you walk into the school and you’ll never want to leave! If you’re looking for a budget friendly or childcare program, I recommend Guatemala.

This holiday season I spent in Costa Rica volunteering on the holiday project. You get to take part in a range of projects on this program and it is definitely the best way to spend the season! Everyone in Costa Rica is so friendly and the local team (Maximo Nivel) are amazing and full of such kind and helpful staff. Everyone we met at the projects were also amazing and we stayed with such a lovely host family.

I volunteered to teach English to children right outside of Antigua, Guatemala. The local staff was phenomenal, the food was great, and I have new lifelong friends after volunteering. I can’t wait to go back!

Incredible experience in the agricultural project working with bees. I never thought I would be doing this! The local team was very helpful and knowledgeable.They implemented precautions for Covid and I always felt safe.

I volunteered with IVHQ doing the animal care programme in Croatia for 2 weeks - a total of 10 days volunteering, in the local animal shelter for dogs and cats. My experience was all positive and it cannot be faulted. There was a perfect balance of volunteering and free time in the afternoon/evenings where we could do as well pleased, such as go to a nearby beach. The accommodation was very clean and was well worth the price. The food included was really nice and allowed me to explore new foods that I hadn't tried before. The staff at the hostel accommodation were lovely and welcoming, which made me feel very comfortable. This programme is suitable for all ages, myself being 18, was the youngest volunteer at the time, with the oldest being 28, however, the staff at the shelter ranged until the age of about 50. I cannot recommend it enough!

Every single aspect of these two weeks I spent in the lovely city of Csikszereda was great. My volunteer placement was exactly what I was hoping for, meaning playing with children in summer camps, having fun and laughing with them but also teaching them a little bit of English. The Care2Travel team really makes sure you're en joying your stay and they're extremely helpful with any requests or problems you might have. It's an amazing opportunity to make new memories with different people from other countries in a new culture. I am so thankful to the entire Care2Travel team and the other volunteers because they made these two weeks unforgettable !

Loved my experience volunteering in Rio. The people are so warm and welcoming whether it’s the program coordinators on site or at your program destination. Lots of different projects to chose from and each have their own special contribution to the community. Our work is definitely appreciated!

I fully enjoyed my time spent on the Kindergarten Project on Bali, the children are so happy and fully of life and were always eager to learn. I would love to go back and visit or even teach again. The volunteer house was also great, the staff tray you like family and the other volunteers are always sweet.

Volunteering at the Nakavango Conservation Programme in Victoria Falls was one of the best experiences of my life. The project leaders on the ground were great; supportive throughout and very open to discussing the issues they face and some unexpected solutions to environmental and conservation issues that are applicable across the world. I learnt a huge amount about reading the story that any environment presents and had a great time doing it. There is a good mix of activities and rest time and the accommodation was great. We had individual rooms and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. I felt valued and looked after. IVHQ was great in the run-up, from the perspectives of both pre-planning generally to the specific needs of the programme (particularly having the correct paperwork for visas and travel). I recommend both the Nakavango Conservation Programme and IVHQ to anyone considering a volunteer program. You will be in very good hands.

Incredible Dissapointed - IVHQ refraining from paying refunds Disappointed with IVHQ. They are tricking people into paying Flexi+ Option for the Registration Fees and then refusing to comply with their obligations of paying a refund. On June 12, 2019 we paid the Flexi Registration Fees for our volunteering programs in Kenya which were going to take place in May 1st 2020 and run for 3 weeks. However, on June 13, 2019, we contacted our Program manager and asked her to change the Program starting date to July 15th, 2020. Everything went well with the changes and we were looking forward to our Program this year. However, due to the Coronavirus situation, this week we decided to contact IVHQ to cancel our programs and apply for a refund of the registration fees. We thought that because we were lodging the claim with more than 60 days from the starting date of our Programs, we will be getting s full refund (as stated in the Flexi+ option benefits list) but to our surprise, the Program Manager came back with a very shocking response. According to her, in order to get a refund we should have cancelled the programs 60 days before the "original program starting date" May 1st, 2020, which means, we should have contacted them on the 1st of March to request a refund for our program taking place in July 15th. The are using the term "original starting date" to refrain from paying a refund of the registration fees. They are tricking people into paying for a flexi option and indirectly steal money from volunteers. They are just contradicting themselves because their terms and conditions also say that the Flexi Registration option allows unlimited changes to the program length and start date, 14+days from "start date"="current program starting date". So in a sense, they are mixing up words, having 2 different meanings for the same term: Program Start Date, and using the most convenient for them. What is really the point of a Flexi option? For example: With the Flexi option you would have the option of changing the starting date of your program (unlimited times) for a future date, lets say from July 2020 to July 2021. However, in case something were to happen to you in a year's time and you were not able to travel, you won't be able to request a refund for your registration fees because the time when you should have done the request for the refund should have been Today, April 2020, 60 days before the original date (July 2020). Do you think that make sense at all?

IVHQ went above and beyond for my program of teaching English in Cambodia. A local staff member was even available to pick me up at the airport well after midnight when my flight arrived was later than expected! I felt safe, taken care of, and like I was really making a difference! My advice, see the world with IVHQ! Go far, see everything, and make as much of a difference in our beautiful world as you can!

Where to begin! I volunteered for 2 weeks at a Turtle Conservation project in Sri Lanka. This was my first time traveling abroad and I couldn't have picked a more perfect place to fulfill my wanderlust. This country has SO much to offer! Beautiful nature, city life, great food, animals, history, culture, and so much more. The whole experience was wonderful, but it was the people and culture that made the experience special. The Green Lion staff were some of the greatest people I've ever met! So kind, supportive, and full of humor! I cannot wait to go back one day!

Best experience of my life! IVHQ prepared everything the best way possible; I got to meet so many amazing people that taught me so much! I stayed in a house with other volunteer who became great friends, I meet the workers in the project who were very welcoming, and the community we served was awesome I would definitely volunteer abroad with them again!!

I joined the special needs program for 2 weeks in early March, 2020-- during the outbreak of COVID-19. During my stay it was declared pandemic, and the world quickly turned into chaos. However, I was very impressed on how the local team handled the situation. We had to take our temperature every day, they made us sanitize our hands countless times each day, volunteers who arrived after a certain date were no longer allowed to participate in the medical and special needs program. The local staff were always willing to assist people who had to head home early, and constantly gave us news updates on the situation in Vietnam. After bars, clubs, and restaurants got shut down, the lovely staff organized karaoke nights and game nights to keep us entertained. I think they did their absolute best to ensure our safety, and I felt very well taken care of. Living conditions were basic, but it was clean, the food was good, there was a good social atmosphere and the staff were super friendly. I was a bit nervous about my program since I had no medical study background and it was a completely new territory for me. But the staff were super nice, gave directions and answered every question I had, and the experienced volunteers help me adjust quickly as well. By the end I was very sad to have to say goodbye to the kids. Overall, I had a great experience, and I think the staff handled the abnormal and worrying situation very well, proving that they are trust-worthy. Thank you for a great experience.

Fantastic people who help you every step of the way. Each member truly cares about what they are doing. The project was fun, inclusive, and rewarding to see that you making an impact. I highly recommend for anyone interested in volunteering.

I really enjoyed my volunteer experience in Croatia. I worked in the Creative Technologies position, and I got to work with the only no-kill animal shelter in the area. I was able to combine both my passion for marketing and video making with my passion for animal care! On top of my wonderful placement, the town of Split was wonderful. The weather, the people, the food-- everything was perfect! If you get the chance, definitely do this program.

My name is Loli and I was volunteer for 8 weeks in Bali, Ubud in teaching and kindergarten. I’d just like to say thank you to Green Lion for this amazing experience, I’ll never forget this trip. The Green Lion’s staff is helpful and really kind. When I was at school with children, they were always smiling and it’s the best gift for me to see happy children. I came here to teach them, but in return they taught me.

The Nakavango Conservation Program in Victoria Falls is an experience you'll never forget. I highly recommend this for everyone. Living and working on a Big 5 game reserve is amazing. The excitement of your first sightings of giraffe, elephant, lion, all of the wildlife brings back the wonder you had as a child. Zoo animals in their actual home living free! The program staff are wonderful, beyond expectations. The food isdelicious. The accommodations are comfortable. You won't want to return home.

Mora mora does not only mean “slowly slowly” in malagasy, it is also a way of life. One that you will learn to love and will even want to take back home with you. It comes along with a slow pace, and with what sometimes seems as a never-ending wait to get things done, but mostly, it implies living in the moment and loving every single minute of it. So every slow boat ride and every single bumpy tuktuk ride you take becomes an experience, every stunning sunset you watch from camp becomes timeless, and every single person you meet, stays with you forever. The slow life becomes the good life. A good life filled with friends from all over the world, a home away from home that feels like paradise and most importantly, a volunteering experience that is immensely gratifying to you and meaningful to others. I participated in the marine conservation program during my time in Madagascar and I can honestly say that it has been one of the most life-changing things I have ever done. I loved everything about the project, especially the fact that I felt like I was doing something truly meaningful reinforced with a very academic and scientific approach. We did tons of sea grass surveys in order to protect an otherwise overlooked but nonetheless extremely important habitat, we participated in beach cleans to collect waste and we used the plastic to make Ecobricks for the development of the local community. We had daily rounds of turtle watch which consisted in observing and analyzing the turtle activity on our MPA (Marine Protected Area) and my favorite part of it all was of course getting to dive in our beautiful reef almost every day of the week, studying and learning the species and being able to survey them. Going to Madagascar and choosing IVHQ to do so was the best decision I could have made. This is obviously a big step for anyone and having the necessary tools and support throughout the entire process is key to having a successful volunteering experience. With IVHQ I felt safe and supported during every step of the way, seeing as they provided me with any kind of help I needed prior to my arrival, during my stay and after finishing the program. This entire experience was incredible and I don’t think that I would do anything differently if I had the choice.

This was my first experience volunteering through IVHQ and I have nothing but amazing things to say about my entire experience. I received constant support from the IVHQ staff throughout planning the trip, during my trip and when I came returned. The trip and experience itself was incredible, the staff on site were supportive, encouraging, and overall, amazing. I learned so much in just two weeks, and was able to make lasting memories ad friendships with the staff, other volunteers, and community. Overall I would highly recommend going on a trip through IVHQ, it was an incredible experience and I plan on scheduling another volunteer trip with them again!

I was crazy nervous at the beginning of my trip as I'm only 18 so was my first time ever travelling alone, but as soon as I arrived to the volunteer house in Phnom Penh I was relieved, the volunteers and the staff were so welcoming and nice and it had a real homely feel to it. So I was already off to a great start and then as soon as I saw the beautiful children at Le Restaurant des Enfants I knew I picked the right project! To anyone thinking of volunteering this organisation was amazing and it was honestly the most amazing and rewarding experience ive ever had working with children!!:)

Excellent opportunity to take part in the conservation of Great Barrier Reef and the ocean. I did coral surveys, cleaned marine debris, camped at the Aussie bush and enriched my cultural knowledge. Highly recommended!

I had an amazing time volunteering with IVHQ Belgium and Serve the City Brussels. My overall experience on this international volunteer program was 100% worth it. I have never been outside of the United States and it was my first ever experience in another country unlike my own. I learned to adapt in Brussels very quickly and learned to just go with the “Brussels Freestyle” as my project coordinator Annelise described the city. Staying in Brussels for six weeks, I never felt lost. I felt right at home, especially while working on the projects and connecting with the refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants I had met during my time on these projects. It never was difficult for me to understand the cultural as well as the languages (French and Dutch). I was able to grasp it and adjust to it. It has also helped with learning French more too. Just volunteering with STC and then participating at the Council of Europe conference gave me a better understanding of the refugee crisis in Europe.

We did survey by snorkelling in Fitzroy Island and Green Island which allowed us to witness the beautiful view of the sea. The coordinator there was so nice and always willing to help. It was a wonderful experience.

This is an amazing one of a kind island experience. The staff is amazing and passionate about conservation and do a wonderful job of educating volunteers on there purpose and issues with marine life and corals. They are inspiring and empowering, I would definitely go back. Being a party of there crew was just amazing. You will feel like a family at day 1. The food was great, the staff was very knowledgeable on corals and the issues at hand when it comes to saving the reef. Glad I could be a part of a bigger cause.

I had an amazing time volunteering with IVHQ, my only regret is going for just one week! My advice to anyone planning to volunteer is go for a lo period of time. It’s the most amazing opportunity and it flies by! I never wanted to come home.

I did 4 weeks in Costa Rica, under Maximo Nivel. The first week was working construction to build an apartment building for single mothers. The second was working on a sustainable coffee farm in Monteverde, the last two weeks were spent teaching english for refugees attempting to enter Costa Rica. All four weeks were extremely rewarding, and there was ample time to explore the country during weekly breaks and weekends. This was my second effort at volunteering following my retirement. The first was in Peru. I will definitely look forward to my next endeavor/excursion in a year or so.

J'ai participé à deux projet ici même au Costa Rica. J'ai fais la construction et je suis allé dans une ferme de café. Les deux programme je les ai bien aimé, mais par contre j'ai préféré la ferme de café, car côté vue celà est vraiment beau. Aussi côté activitée il en a beaucoup et elles sont plus amusante qu'à San Jose. Car San Jose est une grosse ville avec peu de diversification pour les activitées. C'est pour celà que j'ai préféré la ferme de café que la constrution, car les projets de constructions sont à San Jose. Mais se qui est amusant de la construction est que les projets sont vraiment pour des bonnes causes! Comme par exemple le projet au qu'elle j'ai participé était une nouvelle construction d'une immeuble pour des mères seules avec leurs enfants. I did Childcare in Muizenberg in South Africa and I loved every single day of it! Going to program everyday and working with the babies was the best experience of my life. The kids don‘t have much and often it’s difficult to process everything they are going through, but to make them smile and happy is the best feeling. They don’t need much, they are just happy you are here and that you‘re spending time with them! It’s also easy to get along with other volunteers, I made some very good friends and leaving the house was hard for me! I would totally recommend it! So if you have any doubts I can only say: just do it! It‘ll be worth the experience P.S. you live in a house with many volunteers and that can be weird sometimes, also the food is nothing special! But i think that is part of a good experience!

It is truly rewarding when you can actually get to see, help, and communicate with refugees is Brussels. Talking with them and knowing their stories are really eye-opening. When we finished serving coffee and tea for refugees on the first day, the local team leader using his body language and speaking some simple English words to ask us if we paid money to help them, and we nodded. He said that we are all angles. I literally cried a little bit at that time. Also, I remember help the clothes distribution program in local NGO, that is the most meaningful thing I’ve ever done. Besides, we can also explore the city when we were done the volunteer work. Most importantly, I knew some cool volunteers all over the world and we talked about our stories and did a lot of fun things. This is the experience that I could never had without doing volunteer work. They are the treasure of my life. I love this program and every single one I knew during this journey. I left a piece of my heart in Brussels.

This was a great experience and one of the best introductions to volunteering abroad I could have asked for. It didn't require any special skills or training and we had people of all ages. Basically, if you can prune a bush or weed a garden, you can do something at Nakavango. No, not every task was that simple, but we had nearly 20 people working as a team (sincerely great teamwork!) so even the harder days went a little easier. The accommodations I best compare to a mix of hostel or camping with a trailer or in a good cabin with private rooms and shared bathrooms, and our meals were simple but delicious. Fresh salad from the compound's garden was a special luxury and even simple chicken and rice made me drool. We were all impressed with the cooking and pleasantly surprised by the quality of laundry service (every Weds), though we were warned not to put out anything we didn't want ironed. Even though our work shifts were rather short, we were assured that each task was appreciated and meant that other staff could be free to work on other projects. At orientation, the manager made sure to show us where our money was going as well so we knew everything we did and contributed really was going to benefit the program and the community. Something as simple as pulling out alien plants changed the area from a field of toxic plants to life-saving grasslands, and building gardens and orchards at the local school did more for the community and students than I ever would have expected. At the end of the day, we all knew our efforts were small steps in the grander and immensely valuable world of conservation.

My experience in Bali was fun, interesting, inspiring and rewarding, from my first week of cultural orientation thru to my 3 weeks on the construction program. Green Lion Bali was well organized and you could reach out to coordinators with questions and concerns. IVHQ were also in contact via email weekly to check on me and to let me know I could contact them at any time. On evenings and weekend many of the volunteers went into Abud or excursions to some of the beach resort areas for some R&R. Staying in a private room with a host family allowed me to get a more intimate view of the daily life and rituals of the local people. I’m already planning on returning next year to experience more of this unique and spiritual land, I would highly recommend IVHQ and Green Lion Bali.

Volunteering through IVHQ at Nakavango was probably the best thing I've ever done. I was greeted at the lodge by comfortable accommodation, excellent food, and friendly staff who did a brilliant job looking after the volunteers. The work consisted of two different slots in the morning and the afternoon to avoid the heat of the day. We followed a well organised weekly schedule doing different things depending on the day, invasive vegetation removal on one afternoon and animal tracking on another morning. The ecology of the area is absolutely fantastic and the guides were able to give very knowledgable and often colourful commentary on the plants, animals, and general landscape. If you're considering doing this program then don't hesitate any longer, you won't regret it. Be warned though, you may regret not choosing to stay for longer when it comes time to leave, I know I did. I would highly recommend this programme, it's an incredible and unforgettable experience.

I spent two weeks volunteering in the kindergarten program with IVHQ in Ho Chi Minh and honestly had the time of my life!! The staff make you feel so at home and the accommodation is clean and well maintained. There was a variety of food to choose from at meal times and the location is super close to cafes and restaurants. The other volunteers were all so welcoming and had a great attitude, wanting to make the most of their experience. The kindergarten program was really rewarding and even in two weeks I made so many connections with the children. Although some days are repetitive (singing, dancing, feeding, teaching), the kids really love when the volunteers are there and you can see the difference you're making in their lives. Without the volunteer program, the children wouldn't learn English, limiting there opportunities in the future. The city of Ho Chi Minh is busy and has so much to do, after volunteer hours everyone was super eager to explore and make the most of their time overseas. Travelling to other parts of Vietnam is also really easy and affordable from Ho Chi Minh and the staff at the accommodation were so helpful with planning weekend trips and providing recommendations. We could book tours or weekend trips the day before we left easily with the help of the staff which allowed flexibility and kept the experience exciting! Overall, in my two weeks in Ho Chi Minh, I made memories which will last forever, made lifetime friends from all over the world and learnt so much about the rich culture and beautiful landscape of Vietnam. For anyone thinking about volunteering overseas, I would highly recommend the IVHQ Vietnam experience and any of the programs they offer.

My experience in Madagascar didn't just meet my expectations, it beat them, by far. The landscape is breathtaking, the locals are very friendly and the volunteers will become your best friends in no time. I went to Madagascar for just two weeks but I know it will be an experience I will remember my whole life. The nature is challenging and at times a little difficult to adapt to but totally worth it. I did teaching but I had the chance to try out some of the other programs such as construction and forest conservation. Even though it was super fun, I can say that teaching was the most fulfilling of them all. Not only did you see the impact of your help immediately but the happiness and energy you get from the kids is just incredible. Little tip: I totally recommend bringing balloons or pencils or any other material for the class as it will make a huge difference!! So if you are sitting there just doubting about if you should go or not, just listen to me, GO!! I was scared and doubted and was intimidated too, it's normal but trust me, you will have no regrets and IVHQ is honestly a great organization that will make things very easy and make you feel safe at all times.

I learned so much about Africa - the animals, the people, culture and history. Well organized program. I want to go back! Highlights: The roar of the lions, watching leopards, seeing an African Wild Cat! Getting to know the other volunteers. White water rafting on the Zambezi - class 5 rapids! And the gorge swing. Great food and accommodation. Excellent value. Knowledgeable staff. Many opportunities to help and learn. Going into the village to see how locals live was an experience I will never forget.

I have recently volunteered with IVHQ for 2 weeks in Vietnam (teaching project). I have never collaborated with IVHQ before and this was kind of a trial for me: I wanted to "test" how IVHQ worked, prior to engaging with this organization for a longer volunteering experience, which I am going to undertake later this year. I can honestly say I am impressed with their work. First of all, the support prior to departure was always timely, organized, and helpful (follow-up of coordinators on my questions, support when changing details of my application, easy-to-understand explanations, support for booking flight etc.). Once I arrived, I was then communicating with local staff, who were super nice and and friendly too! It is important especially when you arrive in a different country after a long flight, and during the very first days of your stay, and before making any friends, to have someone who makes you feel at home and not alone. IMPORTANT: I would like to warmly recommend all future volunteers to take "culture week" options during volunteering for sure! I am glad I did, because it provides you with a better understanding of the country you are visiting and moreover, you make better bonds with other volunteers. As for program itself: it was well organized, I was working together with several other volunteers and a project coordinator Tracy, who was supporting us during the lessons. The teaching project was very rewarding and fun! The coordinator was giving us support, and at the same time we had a flexibility of acting during classes, as per our creativity and lesson-planning. By the way, one more thing about positiveness of program staff: at one point I got sick and had a sore throat and a high temperature, and the local coordinators were so caring and nice to me: instead of just giving me pharmacy medications, they in addition prepared a homemade drink for my treatment, and used to bring me every few hours to my room together with soup and meals, while I was in bed. During my time in Vietnam, I have also met many young volunteers who were engaged in various projects (most of them traveling and volunteering solo). In case you are very young and inexperienced, maybe even scared to volunteer alone in an unknown country - don't be discouraged! and be sure that IVHQ staff will support you, because I really felt it on myself and other volunteers too.

As part of my project, and unique to date with IVHQ, I get the option for a 24 hour homestay visit over the weekend and take it along with fellow teaching volunteer, John! Aaron goes into Chiang Rai for evening overnight in hotel. This is an opportunity to see local culture up close and personal, and the best, I soon observe, is it's totally unfiltered. The family we are placed with, just go about doing their thing. No frills, no acting for tourists. We are just two more mouths to feed. I'm shown my mattress on the floor and will share a room with the gals of the house. John gets his own room. Perhaps the most interesting, is his reaction. As an urban Chinese kid, he's never been to a village like this and asks me "what is a homestay" followed by, once he sees his room and the kitchen, "when do we leave"? Fortunately, I downloaded Google translate - Thai - to use off line and get to chat with the ladies in the kitchen. Food is fantastic. They have everything they need and yet, it's so simple. Actually, elegant in a way..... Rooster

I attend the childcare programma in South Africa. It was an unbelievable experience. It was born when I was in Zanzibar for vacation last summer. I was impressed by the happiness of the children and I asked to myself how I could make them funnier. I felt at home with other volunteers. I didn’t miss nothing of my home. In few days I felt immediately part of the group. In only one week we created great conditions like we have been knowing since all our life. 10 days were not enough to know all volunteers at the best, but they were enough to be impressed by them. Everyone of them gave me something and I brought this at my home. That’s why I wanted to thank them. For every fantastic moment passed together. I will never forget them. It was an amazing experience even thanking them. I felt a lot emotions and it was unbelievable. They will be in my heart forever. I met a lot of people coming from all the world with different languages and cultures. It was fantastic to make children funnier by doing simple things like only playing and interacting with them. I felt in love with the children immediately and I was happy when they called me teacher Mattia. Very nice. I was connected with all the world and there was not difference with each other. Everyone had the same goal: to help people. When I left, I cried because I thought about every moment I lived and how many things I learned. For example how much is beautiful making people smile. Everything was organized very well. I think that I will repeat this experience and I suggest it to everyone. Try it and don't be afraid. You will be satisfied.

I volunteered in Zambia for 2 weeks in the teaching program. it was the best experience I have ever had. I wish I could have stayed longer because the people of Zambia are the kindest people. If you do a program in Zambia you will stay at the sunbird guest house, the staff there are so friendly the treat you like family! A bonus is there are many things to do in Livingstone as well. Signing up for my volunteer trip was super easy as well and they make everything user friendly and put everything in good detail.Once you sign up you will be given someone who will help through the whole process so if you ever have any questions they will answer them it was nice.

South Africa.. Currently between 2 flights to home, already had tears multiple times. Deciding to come to South Africa was for one specific reason but not many people knew. It has been the best decision i have ever made ❤️ - I signed up a volunteer program called Dreams to Reality less than a year with this program I was able to spread love with the kids who has seen violence; lost what they have or never experienced love and more.. Each of them has their own stories. This program brought me so much more than I expected, made me realize appreciate little things even more.. Filled my heart like it has never filled this way.. Their pure love, friendliness, without knowing me; running to me, jumping on me, hugging me.. hearing my name or calling me "teacher" multiple times over 25 kids was so magical. Also; All the people I met at this program has made my every each day during my stay. I already can't wait to be back to South Africa. ❤️

This experience gave me a lot to learn and see, thanks to the Holiday Program I got to experience the majority of the opportunities for volunteering, and I got the chance to discover what I am good at, I could learn from a lot of people, met amazing people and got to know myself better. Now I can not wait to volunteer again for more time and a new country to visit! All the volunteering activities helped me to grow and think how fortunate I am which means I have to give back some of the luck I have. The best way to do it is giving a small piece of your kindness wherever you go or volunteer.

I volunteered along with my girlfriend to teach English at Emerging Voices in Cartagena, Colombia from Nov-Dec of 2019. The experience overall was amazing. We got to work with lots of different groups of people, from young children living in a poor neighborhood to teenagers learning skills related to the hospitality industry, to adults whose English was very good, but they just lacked the confidence to use it. I also enjoyed the ability to visit other projects at Emerging Voices such as the project to feed and spend time with the homeless and the sports development project that worked with kids living in a Drug Rehabilitation Centre. One of the highlights was definitely meeting all of the other volunteers. Programs like these bring out great people and we had a ton of fun hanging out with people coming from all over North America. My other highlight was definitely the food! Sophie was our local Colombian chef and she made the most amazing meals every day. I was always excited for mealtime! She also kept the house impeccably clean and even made our beds every day; what an amazing lady! I also enjoyed working with Monica who is the program owner. She is a very inspiring woman and a kind soul. We happened to be there during a transitional time for Emerging Voice so that meant we had lots of different volunteers, but also lots of different coordinators. We had three different teaching coordinators during our 4-week stay. One consistent throughout though was Lao. He worked with the childcare program, but he was the only constant in the volunteer house for the entire time that we were there and he made our experience that much better with his kindness and light-hearted nature. The last thing that I really enjoyed was the location of the volunteer house. It was located in the safe neighborhood of Crespo; it was only a 5-minute walk to the beach and only a 10-minute cab to downtown so it was truly perfect! All in it was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to give back and also push themselves a little out of their comfort zone!

I participated in IVHQ's Ghana partnership and highly recommend it for a short term volunteer travel experience. The company is ethically run, with very good and thorough pre-departure materials focused on cultural sensitivity and respectful behavior. The projects on site are locally run and managed. The construction project I worked on was hard work, not just a token project for photo ops.There was a good balance of work time and free time, and for a short stay it was convenient to have the IVHQ folks available for planning sightseeing on the weekends.

One of my life goals was to spend time in an Eastern European country, doing some type of volunteer work. Romania has always interested me, and it looked like a good program with IVHQ. So I went ahead and committed to two weeks in December. The experience has been excellent. Both IVHQ and the local staff are very well organized and positive. The local team offers a first week cultural tour, which includes language lessons and traveling to local sites. I knew that this region of Romania speaks Hungarian, so it was very helpful to have some basic language lessons. The local team also provides accommodations and handles the behind the scenes paperwork. My job assignments were interesting and doable for my brief stay and limited local language skills. I signed up for NGO support, which included various office support projects. I also attended some fun English club events, attended by many local students and adults. I highly recommend this program, and look forward to sharing it with others. I'm over 60, so it's a great experience at any age! It’s particularly good for younger people, to give them the opportunity to work and live abroad, give back to a local community, and make connections with a variety of people!

As my first time travelling abroad solo, I was very impressed by the way IVHQ handled all my queries and how resourceful they were in helping me make this a successful endeavour. I am absolutely in love with my experience at MRCI in Madagascar. I went in to the programme not knowing how much I would learn in the short 4 weeks that I stayed there., I was so glad for all of experiences during my 4 weeks of forest conservation. My only regret is that I didnt stay for a longer duration! I am already planning my next volunteer abroad journey with IVHQ!

I was, in all honesty, apprehensive about visiting Zimbabwe. With news channels on the build-up to my visit reporting the worst drought in decades, elephant and giraffe dropping where they stand, the falls practically coming to a halt. Was I going to see anything out here at all?... Day 1 – I was greeted at the door to the reserve along with 7 other newbies by one of our two main guides, Hope. Hope gave us a brief introduction and shows us around the accommodation; comfy beds, desk, bedside table, plenty of hanging space, big ceiling fan and a lockable door, but it was when he lead us out to the dining area which overlooks a stunning section of the park, I see two giant Cape Buffalo calmly strolling past as the sun was setting (one of the big 5 down already!). Seconds later, Zebra. Moments after that, a friendly hornbill comes and sits right in front of me, I could hardly take in what Hope was telling me, all my apprehensions were put to rest, and I completely fell in love with this place. This is my first time doing any voluntourism, first time doing a safari-like conservation programme, and it’s certainly the first time I’ve seen animals of this magnitude looking so healthy and content in the wild, and all on the doorstep!

My experience in The Mirror was amazing. I got much more than I was expecting. I decided to join this adventure 3 weeks before it started, so I didn’t have much time to organize my own trip. So, I decided to look for a platform that could help me be more efficient with my time. A friend of mine told me about IVHQ and how easy was to volunteer with them, because they provide almost all the information you need to just GO. I never traveled alone, so I was looking for a safe country that could give me something new. I read a lot about the culture of Asian countries and, as my first time in Asia, I choose Thailand because it is safe, cheap and is so beautiful. I followed all the steps in IVHQ training guide and I’m glad I did it because I felt that I was well prepared to participate in the program. I didn’t feel that anything was missing, and I didn’t bring unnecessary things. I had the help I needed before going and after being there. When I arrived, there were some intern volunteer girls waiting for me. They welcomed me like I was family. The girls (that’s what I called them at the beginning… at the end they were “My Girls, My Daughters, My Friends”) were so excited to met the new volunteers that they were giggling and jumping around like they knew me. I absorbed they excitement with joy. It was so good to feel welcome. Two other volunteers came to The Mirror Foundation with me and everyone received us very well. They show us around and accommodate us. At night the intern volunteers made a big fire and we had a chance to get to know each other better. On next day we met all the coordinators and we had the welcome session, explaining all of The Mirror’s work to the community and sensitizing us for the importance of our work. In Outdoor program we learned about cleaning, construction, agriculture, gardening, landscaping, painting, repair and maintenance of buildings, construction and repair of roads. But it was not extensive because in such a short time they used the “Learning by doing” technique. But our coordinators gave us the most important lesson of all, that it’s how important volunteering is, and they did such a good job mentoring us. They create such a good bond with the volunteers that we really made the effort to not disappointing them. Their knowledge of the tasks, their explanation of the purpose of the job and their awareness of our abilities, transmitted us confidence, commitment and gratitude for doing them. Best of all was their sense of humor, I laughed so much during the work hours, that time just passed by flying. I felt that I learned and really enjoyed myself during all volunteering program. Three weeks was too short and if I knew that I would try to stay longer. I will never forget this experience. Telma

This was the first time I did some volunteer work and it was by far the most amazing thing I did in my entire life. My program was childcare and the kids were amazing, they gave me so much energy and let me see that you should enjoy the little moments. Also the other volunteers I met were so nice and cool. We did a lot together and traveled on the weekends. This were by far the most incredible weeks ever!! I highly recommend to do volunteer work!

I absolutely loved going to South Africa ! It is so beautiful there with so much to do and see. Volunteering in the township was life changing and inspiring ! All the people were so kind and the kids were fun and sweet! I spent this as part of my honeymoon and my husband and I had so much fun. We learned so much about the culture. We immediately felt like family with the other volunteers. Every morning walking into the school was like walking into a house of love! The kids greeted us and couldn’t wait for us to join the circle for the morning lessons! I would recommend this program for anyone who wants to volunteer abroad !

I really enjoyed my time in Costa Rica! I thought the IVHQ staff as well as the Maximo Nivel staff were absolutely excellent. My host family was amazingly sweet, and the different free classes Maximo offered were awesome and good ways to meet people. The volunteering itself was lovely as well (I was working in a daycare) and the staff there were so kind and appreciative.

Salam! I spent a week in the Atlas Mountains volunteering with IVHQ and it was a truly unique and fun experience. The family I stayed with was incredibly accommodating, there was always plenty of food. It was amazing to walk through the valley and mountains everyday with the sheep to find fresh grass, the views were beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone looking to volunteer in a small community to learn about the lifestyle of the locals and how they work together so that everyone can thrive.

I volunteered in Thailand (only) for two weeks. It was the best time of my life.I decided to go abroad to teach English just 10-14 days before my trip . IVHQ made everything so easy and they were really supportive from the first moment till the very last! It was an amazing experience,I loved the placement, my project, my Thai coordinators . I wish I could have stayed longer! I made lifelong friendships from all around the world. The students at the school they were really attentive and happy to learn English.It was heartbreaking to leave the school as I had a good connection with the children and teachers too. I hope I can go back soon !! I hardly recommend to everyone!!

I spent 5 weeks volunteering in a kindergarten and primary school in Lovina, Bali. This time would have to be the most memorable and rewarding 5 weeks of my life. I would consider myself well travelled person who has experienced many different cultures, but living in Lovina I was able to truly immerse myself in the local life and culture and I could not be more grateful for this opportunity. I chose to volunteer with International Volunteer HQ because it is an organisation that runs sustainable and positive projects that have been implemented for the greater good of these communities, as well as being highly affordable, which will allow me to continue travelling and hopefully do more volunteer work with them further down the track. I have met so many people from all over the world and I can truely say I’ve made friends for life. Being a tourism volunteer program, IVHQ gave me the opportunity to have an incredible balance of work and play. In my 5 weeks I got to see so much of Bali and surrounding islands as well as feeling like I was doing worthwhile work at the same time.

I took part in the turtle conservation project in Bali for 4 weeks, including the orientation week in Ubud which I would highly recommend. I had the most amazing experience and had the best time making the awesome new friends, learning about the Balinese culture, exploring the beauty of island and taking part in the conservation efforts of the Green Lion Turtle Conservation Centre. Nusa Penida now feels like my second home and the Green Lion Team feel like family.

I completed the IVHQ Romania program and I have nothing but wonderful things to say! IVHQ was recommended by a peer who had experience with the organization. At first, I was hesitant to go through IVHQ and not volunteer directly with a group. However, when I looked at the IVHQ website, I realized a lot of the information I needed (such as cost, placement outlines, living arrangements, etc.) were clearly provided. When I had questions about which location might be best for me, IVHQ provided resources and thoughtful questions to ask myself to help me find answers. Once I joined the program, the information provided by IVHQ helped me understand what I should expect from my experience volunteering abroad as well as what preparation I should take to have the best trip possible. Even more importantly, the local team in Romania, Care2Travel, is an amazing organization! As soon as I signed-up, the local team provided materials that covered accommodations and language. As my time of departure got closer, I was given more information regarding my placement responsibilities, local customs, and activities in town/excursions. Each time I had a question, it was answered quickly and professionally. Once in Romania, I worked for 6 weeks as an NGO Support volunteer. As a result, I had a first-hand view of how hard Care2Travel works to ensure that their international and local volunteers, as well as their program partners, have the resources and assistance that they need. This may be related to volunteer programs as well as making sure that living arrangements, health & safety, and excursion opportunities are what is best for volunteers. I selected to participate in the optional orientation week. This orientation provided a greater sense of local customs and beliefs, geography, language, and history. It was also a great opportunity to get to know local volunteers who assisted with the orientation. Moreover, this information helped provide a greater understanding of where I was and how that affected my NGO placement as well as the placements of other volunteers. Even if you are unable to complete the orientation week, Care2Travel provides opportunities for community engagement through sponsoring an English Club and Trivia Night where both foreign volunteers and locals are encouraged to participate. There are also opportunities for volunteers to participate in local happenings and community projects. I would recommend NGO Support for any volunteer who is interesting in seeing how a non-government organization is run and how it functions within the community. For those like me who are already have real-world working experience, it is also an excellent way to compare what you are used to in your home country to what may be happening in another part of the world. Most of all I would recommend volunteering through IVHQ Romania! You will not only be well taken care of, but you will come away with a greater sense of yourself and of others. In IVHQ Romania's programs, you can give as little or as much of your time as you choose. I can guarantee that the more you give and participate, the more a part of yourself will remain in Romania!

Volunteering with IVHQ was incredible! I'm 24 and I'm from Guatemala, I had always wanted to volunteer in Africa and with IVHQ it was possible. The process to apply was super easy and reliable, I didn't know anyone from Guatemala who had done this before, but from the beginning they earned my trust. I spent 3 weeks in Tanzania and 3 weeks in South Africa, and it was the best experience of my life. In Tanzania I was in the HIV / AIDS program, in which I learned a lot and felt the impact that I had on people, but especially the impact that people had on me. In Cape Town, I was in childcare, taking care of children from 4 to 5 years old, and I can easily say that those children stayed with my heart. In both places I met incredible people, lived unforgettable experiences and met impressive places. The only thing I regret is not having been longer. I can't wait to continue traveling the world with IVHQ.

I had a wonderful volunteering with IVHQ! Despite it being my first time volunteering overseas, not to mention by myself, IVHQ had made the preparation process so manageable for me! I didn't have to worry about meals and accommodation as it was all included in the program fee. IVHQ would also carefully list down the things to do and know prior to my trip and I couldn't have felt more prepared without their online orientation as well!! The program itself was well-planned and I have nothing but love for the Green Lion Team in Bali, Ubud! Everyone was so welcoming and helpful when I have doubts or needed any help. But the highlight of my trip would definitely be the time spent in the kindergarten. Being able to speak Bahasa allowed me to connect with the children faster and I was glad that I could help them with their learning during my short time there as well. I also had so much fun learning the games that the kids would always play during the break time. I also loved how there were enough free time to explore Bali and I had no trouble getting around as there were taxi services available just outside of the accommodation. I loved every part of my experience, albeit a short one, and I most certainly would want to plan my next trip with IVHQ again!

The overall process of volunteering with IVHQ was easy, affordable, and hands-on. Throughout every process both here in my hometown to where my volunteer program took place, IVHQ made it so easy. They answered all my questions and concerns and were always super attentive. Volunteering in Cartagena, Colombia for the childcare program was an experience I’ll carry for the rest of my life. I went in there with an open mind and heart and came out with an abundance of love and gratitude. The children showed me more about appreciating the simple things in life than I could’ve ever taught them. I’ve gained some lifelong friends and got to experience some of Colombia’s beautiful culture and scenery and amazing food!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Ghana through IVHQ as a volunteer on the medical program. We spent our days going to schools to provide wound care, malaria testing, sex & health education and assist with various other medical concerns the students faced. We would also go into the communities to assist adults with similar concerns and treated any local that came to our door. Meeting the local people and the work we did day in and day out truly filled my heart. What made this program especially unique is the medical coordinator, Evans Nkansah. Evans has a striking passion for helping the people in communities and does everything possible to ensure we can as much as possible. He has built close relationships with local people all over Frankadua and the surrounding area and they trust him to guide the volunteers to help in the most effective ways. Evans taught each and every one of us medical volunteers how we can best help the people of these communities and gave his all every day. His compassion and pure love for his work will forever stay with me and I will be forever thankful to have been able to work with and learn from him.

IVHQ helped realize one of my lifelong dreams. I volunteered in Bali, doing the healthcare education program & my experience was beyond amazing. While preparing to go, IVHQ was of great help & support, the online guide had more than enough information, & whenever I had a question, my program manager was always there to help. The local staff in Bali were just as supportive, I felt so safe in their care. The accommodation was really nice, the house was beautiful, we had a daily cleaning service, the food was amazing, we had Western options as well as traditional Indonesian options. My placement was good too, I got to work with amazing people, & I made lots of friends there. I definitely recommend volunteering with IVHQ, cause they made my trip to Bali so worthwhile, & so much fun

I booked a voluntering through IVHQ! Let me say...I felt extremely well mentored and everything was structured from the local team as well as the program manager. I've met incredible people from around the world. The schools greeted me with open arms without any questions ask. It was honestly the best time of my life. My only regret would be not staying long enough!

I found IVHQ last December. They had the cheapest cost I found, yet still seemed to provide a ton of support and assistance as well as had great reviews, which were all important to me. The project I chose, Teaching English in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, was run by another company that IVHQ partners with and although that I was hesitant at first, I found that both companies worked very well together and both equally kept in contact with me and helped me as I prepared to travel. Maximo Nivel was the partner company who runs projects in Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Peru and they do a wonderful job. IVHQ was involved with everything and supported me up until I departed and then Maximo took over, yet IVHQ still checked in throughout the trip and I felt that between the both of them, I had as much support as needed, and had someone to call no matter what. From the moment I was picked up at the airport, to my first night at a host family in San Jose, and then finally my transfer to Manuel Antonio the following day, I felt safe and secure and I was with other volunteers who ended up becoming my host family and some really great friends. The project was very basic as far as the supplies and the setup, it was located in a community building as a part of the church and the room was very basic having only tables, chairs and a white board with some markers, but what else do you need with imagination? Classes were held from 3-4:30 for the children whose ages ranged from 4 to 10 and then adult classes were from 4:30-6 and we ended up splitting the adult group in half for beginners and intermediate students. This project did require a decent amount of planning due to the lack of a curriculum or established lessons, but it wasn't difficult since the local team works with you and has many resources for you to use. Overall, the best part of the experience was seeing how much of an impact you have on your students, helping them do better at work, get better grade sin school, get into college and feel confident when speaking with the large amount of visitors from all over the world. Plus, every morning and weekend were our free time and we did so much, such as visiting La Fortuna/Arenal in the north part of the country, touring Manuel Antonio National Park, taking catamaran cruises to local islands off the coast, and really becoming locals exploring the town and finding our favorite spots. Overall, it was an amazing few weeks and I cried as the plane took off to head home because part of my heart will always be left with the people of Costa Rica, although I was excited to be in the world of air conditioning again! :)

Its a bit cliche, I know, but going overseas to be a service to the outside world set me on a new path in life. One that has let me see the positive and optimistic side of life. Going to volunteer in Costa Rica instilled a confidence in me of people's true proclivity for good and helping the world around them. I will, for the rest of my life, look back on my experience as a such a positive influence on a better life!

This program was such an eye-opening experience that I highly recommend. I was in the Kindergarten program in Ecuador for 4 amazing weeks. Through this program, I was able to meet so many like-minded people and learn so many things by living in this community. I was able to volunteer during the week and go on weekend adventures with the friends I made there. I never felt alone and always had something to do. The kindergarteners were so cute and lively and I loved helping them out. It was only a short walk from the volunteer house. I hope that everyone gives IVHQ a chance and is able to have the same positive experience that I did.

It was the best experience ever. I learned a lot of about culture, met amazing people. I felt like I could help and felt appreciated. The program was amazing, everything planned well, I always felt safe and surrounded by other volunteers. Looking forward to come back! If you have any doubts - just don’t. I promise, it’s gonna be the time of your life!

This was my first time volunteering and to say I was a little nervous is an understatement. But IVHQ was there with me every step of the way. They answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. I volunteered in Muizenberg, South Africa for a month. I was apart of the the teaching program. It is the most rewarding thing I have done to date. The kids were a little shy at first but after a few days they opened right up. My teacher was so kind and understanding too. If there was anything I wasn't fully conformable doing all I had to do was let her know. The local team, Dreams to Reality, took very good care of all of the volunteers. They helped us and showed up everything we needed to know and do. I felt like I was treated like family when I was there. I couldn't';t have asked for a better experience. If I could change anything it would be to volunteer for longer then 4 weeks. The time went by so fast. All I did was blink and I was going home. I would volunteer with IVHQ again in a heartbeat.

The trip to Uganda was excellently organised and staff were willing to help and answer any queries/questions. The placement involved working at a local primary school and teaching a range of classes/ages in rural Uganda.

Volunteering in Cusco, Peru was the most amazing experience i have had. I loved every single second there, the truth is I miss it. I miss the culture, the people, the food and specially the people I helped volunteering. I miss their smiles and their gracious and warm hugs. They are the nicest people I have ever socialized with. I wouldn't trade my experience over anything. I thank IVHQ for giving me the opportunity to visit the world by helping others and I appreciate the people that helped me make beautiful memories in Peru.

It was one of the best experiences of my life. MRCI camp made me feel like I was truly living an adventure. Exploring the main island of Nosy Be was also a huge source of fun and entertainment. The staff were all amazing and incredibly nice and helpful. If there is anything that I would note is that you should choose your programs wisely because they are truly the deciding factor in everything. I would definitely go back for another round because life in Madagascar truly charmed me. I am currently planning my next IVHQ volunteering trip to a new destination in the world. Then maybe I'll head back to visit Madagascar later. Program details: I did both construction and Turtle conservation. They were both amazing programs. While doing those, I also joined the teaching english programs in my extra time, and I have to say, they all had me visiting different amazing places and meeting the new cultures. Free time: Nosy be is an amazing place to hang out. Whether its renting scootors and cruising(funny story happened to me with that!) or simply taking boats and exploring other islands. And its extremely cheap considering the normal expenses you have in everyday life.

I had a great time in Cusco. There were so many things to do, like ziplining and visiting Machu Picchu! I would do it again in a heartbeat. I definitely recommend volunteering through IVHQ and I’d love to go somewhere else through them!

My experience with IVHQ was fantastic and very rewarding. I took part in the marine conservation project in Lisbon, Portugal and I thoroughly enjoyed my month there. The support I received in the lead up to my departure, in country support and even post program congratulations made me feel very at ease in knowing I had chosen the best program and volunteer community. IVHQ allowed me to make lifelong friends as well as interact with locals in the community. The dive centre we were working with was amazing and had very considerate, personable and professional dive staff. The hostel staff cooked amazing food and made us all feel like the impact house was our home away from home. Without a doubt I would take part in an IVHQ volunteering trip again as I came away feeling I had grown as a person while having the time of my life!

The whole operation was run amazing. Signing up and booking everything for the trip was very easy and accessible. The program managers that guide you along the way during the registration process were so helpful! Right from the start, the program in Bali was amazing the local team had everything set up and ready to go whether it was airport pick up, to the accommodation and volunteer program. They made the experience stress free and convenient. The volunteer work was very rewarding I had the chance to do a renovation on 2 temples for a week as well as teach English heath at a school for two days. The only regret I have was not booking my trip for longer, I was only in Bali for two weeks and I knew right away I needed more time. If I ever get the opportunity to volunteer abroad again I am going to do 3 weeks minimum and hopefully more. The people I met along the journey were amazing from the locals to the others in the volunteer house. Everyone was so genuine and unique in their own way which added to the experience. Being able to meet and connect with people from all over the world was incredible and made the trip better than ever expected!

I was a medical volunteer in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (22.07.2019-30.08.2019). The volunteer project International Volunteer HQ is well organized. Collection of documents and registration of participation in the project takes little time. The organizers of the project provide great assistance in preparing the trip. The project coordinator in Vietnam supported the volunteers all the time, starting with a meeting at the airport in Ho Chi Minh City. The accommodation and food are great. The food is varied and tasty. On weekends, the organizers and coordinator of the project organized a large number of cultural events and excursions. Some activities and excursions are free. The medical project was carried out in a hospital. Vietnamese doctors are fluent in English, French and Latin. Therefore, my communication with the medical staff of the hospital did not have language problems. I participated in medical operations (neurosurgery, traumatology) and rehabilitation procedures. I worked full time. 5 working days. 2 days off. Vietnamese doctors work perfectly and introduced me to the unique methods of treating patients. Extensive medical practice, various patients, various injuries. The gained experience will be useful to me in studies and medical work. I am very pleased with the trip.

I wanted a change this summer. This year was about giving back, doing something for someone else. To be a part of something bigger than myself. So next thing I know I am booking a sustainable agriculture volunteer program in Romania for a week, through IVHQ and Care2Travel. This was just a taster, I didn’t want to get ahead of myself as it was the first time I was completely travelling alone. Getting ready for this I was nervous and anxious, questioning if I’d made the right decision and it wasn’t too late to back down. All I could think about was; I am about to go to a country I have never been to before, live with people I have never met before. Am I going to get along with the people there? is this program the right fit for me? will I make a difference in such a short period of time? The moment I stepped into the airport I was welcomed by Inu our driver and three other volunteers arriving on the same day as me. By the end of a five-hour drive most of my anxieties had melted off by the conversation flow and nestled in the mountains was Miercurea Ciuc. We dropped our bags at the accommodation made quick introductions and joined some other volunteers in discovering the town, it was the ‘potato festival’. There were food stalls, lights and live music, we even ended up dancing with a local gypsy. The first day was orientation day, it was time to properly introduce ourselves to one another and go over the details of the town and work schedule. Awkwardness, the first fifteen minutes then someone cracks a joke, then tension from that moment melts away. When I reached my placement and I first laid eyes at the community garden I was daunted it was huge project there was so much to do. Our volunteer leaders Peter and Jackie were full of reassurance and help telling us that they were open to our ideas and that our input no matter how small was significant. So sleeves were rolled up and days were spent in the community garden getting everything back into shape, ploughing, digging and weeding under the sun, with a cup of tea here and there. After work the day was mine. I managed to experience aerial yoga for the first time, chimney cake, family style dinner with my fellow volunteers and also my first tattoo. At the end of my stay I could already see a difference in the garden it looked as if it were up and running. There was that enormous sense of achievement. The last night of my program was the icing on the cake. All of us had huddled up near a fire making smores underneath the stars, talking about our journeys, dreams and goals. All of those fear and worries were uncalled for because at the end of the volunteer program I honestly came out of it getting more than I expected. It truly changed me. I came out with friends and an appreciation towards finding a common goal even though we all came from different back grounds. The only regret I have is, I wish I had stayed a little longer…

I had a wonderful experience volunteering with IVHQ for the medical program in Ho Chi Minh City. Pros: Incredible local team support, organized daily schedules, fun activities in the city, meaningful volunteer work, wonderful learning experience, hands on, made great friends Cons: Accommodation wasn't very nice, a little dirty/messy, Ho Chi Minh is a busy busy city so be prepared for chaos, some days could be a little boring while working in the hospital, very very hot (thankfully the accommodation has AC so you can cool off in the evenings) I would do the program again, definitely, and I did realize that the longer I stayed, the better it got. With an authentic program like this, it takes time to assimilate to the culture, the food, the hospital or whichever placement you are on, and once you're in the grove, you start to make connections and really enjoy your time! I highly recommend!

I did the teaching program this summer for two weeks in Ubud, Bali. It was one of the best weeks of my life. I chose Bali because I am from Indonesia but i live in Amsterdam. I wanted to follow a program where I could really make a difference, that’s why i chose Bali. The program was to teach the kids english and if they didn’t understand something I could explain it to them in Bahasa. Not only the kids were amazing but the other volunteers were also so livening and kind. I would really recommend to volunteer with IVHQ.

What an incredible journey! This summer I spent a week volunteering in Antigua, Guatemala with IVHQ and it has been such an unforgettable experience. IVHQ and the local staff at my volunteer placement were extremely supportive and always there with advice when I needed it. I fell in love with the Guatemalan customs and culture, and the incredibly hard working and kind people I met there. As a premed student on the medical project, I had the opportunity to volunteer at Mis Anos Dorados, which is a free local day center in Jocotenango for elders 60 and older. I worked in the facility’s clinic helping perform physical exams, taking vitals, and consulted with the health care professionals at Maximo Nivel regarding more serious patient concerns or medical conditions. The abuelitos at the center were so friendly and kind, and I formed memorable relationships with many of them. It was so hard to leave! During my free time, I was able to explore around Antigua and even trekked up Cerro de la Cruz which was a beautiful view! After volunteering I also took Spanish classes through IVHQ with the local team (Maximo Nivel) each evening. This helped a lot with my Spanish at my volunteer placement. My host family was so kind and professional as well. I was impressed with the variability in the meals each day of the week. They were always delicious and the placement was comfortable and safe. Thanks to this experience I learned so much and met many wonderful people on the medical project!

My name is Sophie and I’m from Canada (the French part!). I’m currently studying in psychology and I just finished volunteering in Quito, Ecuador, on the Shelter project. During the project I worked at the Albergue San Juan de Dios with the most amazing people in the world! They have the biggest hearts and they work so hard to help others in need; it was an honor for me to give them a hand. The opportunity to experience a different culture while still being able to give back to individuals who are in need, was something I could not pass up on. Seeing how some of them had a hard life made me more appreciative of the resources that are easily accessible to individuals such as myself. The experience overall was incredible and life changing. I loved every second and would volunteer again a million times. Ecuador feel like a second home to me now.

It was one of the best decisions of my life choosing to go to Victoria Falls and volunteer at NCP. The people there are some of the most positive and genuine people that you will ever meet and the culture is next to nothing else in this world. I have learned so much about conservations and the different ways of thinking about conservation. different ideas which some people may not have thought of before. Being able to absorb all the knowledge that our local team was giving us is a joy I will never forget and that will stay with me forever. The local team ensures that your stay here is one of the best you will ever have on a volunteering program and they take pride in making sure that everyone can be catered for in the best way they possibly can. So if you are a vegan, vegetarian or just a straight-up carnivore the local team at NCP are able to make your life a living heaven.

This experience was almost 2 years ago, but I still think about it almost daily. The place: Nepal is such a beautiful country! It has a variety of landscapes/altitudes to explore. For the orientation portion, we stayed in Kathmandu. We met with all the volunteers and stayed in a nice hostel located in Thamel - the tourist region of the country's capital. Once we all got our volunteer and homestay assignments, we all bused out to various regions. I went to Pokhara - a mountainous town with stunning views of Anna Purna. There are lots of tourists here, mainly trekkers, and the air is much cleaner than Kathmandu. The town is nestled on a large lake - Lake Phewa. I was up in the hills of Sarangkot, a sweet little village with absolutely amazing views. This neighborhood is famous for paragliding - which was so fun!! Once I returned home from my trip, I realized that there are a surprising amount of people in the world who know very little about the country and its geographical location. Everyone should visit Nepal. The people: Nepal is a very spiritual country. There are many monasteries located throughout the country and the air smells of incense constantly. The people are so connected to the country, each other, and they are so eager to help. Specifically, my homestay family in Nepal made me feel like family. I really enjoyed getting to spend time with them every day, trying to translate and learn about each other. The staff: The IVHQ staff in Nepal were all local people, passionate about helping their country. You could tell that they loved their jobs and were proud of what they were doing. They made the process easy and made you feel safe. I still keep in touch with Rajesh - the most amazing staff member that lead us through orientation. Everest base camp trek: You MUST do this. I can't recommend doing this trek enough. If you do go, please request Nabin or Basanta be your guide. This was the best experience of my life thus far!

Before leaving for my trip with IVHQ to Brazil, besides all the guidance, preparation and help received I seriously considered not going, out of fear. The moment I got to our hostel in Rio I knew right away I had made the right choice. I worked 3 weeks in the sports program in the favelas. All the people, the volunteers, the beaches... Everything made this trip unforgettable and without a doubt of the best experiences of my life. I invite all of you to do yourselves a favour and embark on this beautiful journey too. Had the best trip to Thailand Hua Hin with IVHQ. I had never travelled so far or by myself and at 30 years old was a little apprehensive. From the off IVHQ were supportive and answered all my questions. When I went I was unsure how many people would be there or how the accommodation would be but how over the moon I was. I had the best week making life long friends from around the world and seeing lots of beautiful places. Accommodation and food was excellent the the green lion team couldn’t be more helpful. It was a laugh a minute! The school itself was fantastic, the pupils were so friendly wanting high fives And always smiling. It really puts life in to perspective! I would highly recommend doing a program if you get chance to, it will be the best thing you do! Thanks so much!

For me, IVHQ has been perfect! I went to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, and worked on a wildlife conservation project for two weeks. This sounds really cliche but it was probably the best experience of my whole life and I will definitely be going back!! I would highly recommend the Nakavango Conservation Program to anyone, there is a perfect balance of work, free time, and just seeing the amazing wildlife in the reserve. We also got the see the Victoria Falls, which is very nearby to the project. There are loads of fun activities to do at weekends, from extreme stuff like bungy jumping off the falls, to relaxing things like a river cruise. The accommodation was perfect, our clothes were washed for us once a week, everyone has their own room, and there is plenty of space to relax and socialise. Most of all, the staff there are absolutely wonderful, all of them work so hard to make sure every volunteer leaves with an experience they'll never forget. They are also so friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the reserve and the local area. Also, one of the best things about the project was the real difference it makes. Whilst volunteering, its easy to see how much has been done by volunteers in the past, and the progress I saw even in just two weeks was huge. We finished making a whole new road, we dug a trench big enough for a water pipe to water fruit trees at the local school, and we cleared large areas of an invasive plant. Finally, the other best thing about it was the wonderful people I met. By the end of my two weeks, I had 17 new friends, from all over the world, and three of us are already planning to go back in a couple of years (or sooner)!! Like I said, I can't recommend this programme enough, if you want to see an absolutely stunning part of Africa, make a valuable difference to the environment and local community, and meet friends for life, I say give it a go!

A couple of months ago, I set off on a trip of a lifetime all thanks to IVHQ. Having only had one trip out of Europe in my life, this was a huge jump for my confidence, as well as being the undisputed highlight of my life let alone my gap year. Through IVHQ, I was able to volunteer in Zambia where I have made lifelong friends from all 4 corners of the globe. From USA, Mexico and Australia, even to the likes of Panama and Israel. The memories made with the local people of Livingstone and volunteers are ones that will stay with me for life. To wake up each day and have children depending on you as a teacher can be daunting but it's a challenge that is worth taking as the rewards are so worth it. I've had love letters aplenty from children and staff at my school, and it makes me feel truly appreciated for the effort that other volunteers and I put it. However, this is all thanks to IVHQ for their supportive and warm-welcoming staff to ensure the volunteers and school fits. Having fun whilst volunteering is also a possibility. From safaris and rhino walks to white-water-rafting and bungee jumping, there are an endless amount of opportunities for volunteers in Zambia. Perhaps you want to explore more of Zambia? This is possible on an 8 hour coach ride to Lusaka, the Zambian capital. It goes without saying that the picturesque Victoria Falls are well worth the visit, whilst countries such as Botswana and Zimbabwe are only a stones throw away. Additionally, there are plenty of ways to get involved in the community. Pub quizzes, homework clubs and soccer clubs are just three examples of how you can get involved in the wider community of Livingstone, helping both the young and the elderly. Ultimately, living and volunteering in Zambia has been the best experience I have ever had. All thanks to IVHQ, this was made entirely possible. If you're going to travel and volunteer, do it the IVHQ way.

This was an amazing experience. India is a country filled with a rich culture, and if you are open to immerse yourself into that culture, you will learn and grow so much. The community I was working with, specifically the children and mothers, were so welcoming. I would 100 percent recommend. It will change your life. From the staff coordinating the program, to the children you work with, its an unreal experience.

My 18 year old daughter and I spent 2 weeks volunteering. The first week we did community support and the second week in childcare. I was very hesitant to travel abroad and volunteer, but our entire time here has been amazing. We both feel very safe and our homestay was awesome. We did a lot of “tourist” things daily and would 100% recommend Peru and IVHQ to anyone thinking of volunteering abroad. The coordinators were very helpful and super friendly. We met a lot of great people and hope to keep in contact with them. Again, Best experience ever!! Thank you

This experience was one of the best I have ever had! I have always wanted to volunteer and see other parts of the world. I came across IVHQ just browsing the web for safe and affordable programs. I am starting graduate school this fall so I did not have too much extra money to spend on traveling. I did research on some of the countries I was interested in and Buenos Aires seemed to be one of the safer choices so I felt comfortable in my decision to travel there. I traveled to Argentina alone, but when I arrived, I was never alone unless I chose to be which was comforting. All the volunteers would go out to eat together and explore Buenos Aires together! The volunteers who were in the same program would travel to their volunteer program together. Where the childcare program is located is not a good area, but again, you are never alone. I always felt safe because there would always be 6 to 9 of us going together and no-one was left behind. The kids in the program truly have a piece of my heart. It was hard for me to communicate with them since my Spanish skills are very minimal. So while I was there, I focused on playing different sports and activities with the kids such as soccer, jump rope, catch, skateboarding, using the scooter, drawing, and etc. Even though I couldn't speak the same language, some of the kids truly gravitated towards me because they could see I was smiling, laughing and trying to have fun with them. It truly amazed me how close I felt to some of them even though I could not have real conversation with them. I am so glad I went out of my comfort zone to volunteer in Buenos Aires because the memories and friends I made on this trip I will cherish and hold close to my heart forever. The kids I met during this program I will miss forever and cherish the memories I have with them. This trip truly gave me another perspective on life and truly helped me grow as a person. I would highly recommend taking this journey to anyone.

My volunteering trip to Barcelona with IVHQ has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life thus far. From the application process to the completion of my project, I received so much support from IVHQ and the local organisation ImpacTrip in Barcelona. The ImpacTrip team in Barcelona are so friendly and will go that extra step to ensure you’re having an enjoyable experience at your project. My favourite part was meeting locals at my project and the other incredible volunteers. I honestly had the best time and would 100% recommend IVHQ’s Barcelona program. You won’t regret it!

The two weeks I spent in Cusco, Peru was an amazing adventure, both for me and for my future in medicine. I enjoyed the city so much and loved the culture I was able to experience. I think I could have had a better volunteering experience if the clinic in Chinchero maybe was more aware of volunteers and had set protocols for us. I found myself really looking to fill in time and just roaming around trying to find something to do. The nurses were very kind and I learned a lot about the medical system in Peru. Overall, some of the changes that could have been made also stemmed from me just having to be more outgoing and asking others if they needed help. The adventures I did on my own time were amazing and I loved my stay. I really enjoyed the food and my host family were always very helpful and supportive. I felt extremely lucky while staying in Cusco and would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who is thinking about doing an IVHQ program. Cusco is a beautiful city and I felt so welcomed everywhere I went. Since I spoke Spanish it did make a lot of things easier for me, and communication was never an issue. Overall, I felt incredibly lucky to be able to experience Cusco, there is so much to do there and so much to see!

IVHQ was the first volunteer program I have done. I was nervous before I left, wasn't sure what to expect, and I was traveling alone. No matter how many questions I had before I landed in Ecuador, someone was there to help. Once I landed in Quito, everything was better than what I thought it would be. The staff was incredible and helped with everything. Any questions about the city, country, my program, anything, they were there to help. I worked for 5 weeks in a school helping to teach English. I adore those kids and wish I could have stayed longer. The country was amazing and it's a hidden gem that more people should learn about, such a Cotopaxi, the roses, making chocolate, city of Baños, exploring the Amazon... everything was amazing. I came into the program with no expectations. It was my first time volunteering abroad and I'm glad I did it with Volunteer HQ. They communicated throughout the whole entire time. With flights, accommodation and activities, they were able to answer my questions. I did childcare project and it was a thirty minute walk and then you take a 10 minute bus ride to the area. Although it was far, once in the project, the kids are the sweetest. You get to play with them, help the teacher in whatever you can and the day goes by so quick. You also have time to explore and you can take a comfortable bus into the city, Cordoba. There are endless food, places to see and so much history. You can also take a weekend and explore to other places in Argentina or countries. It was an amazing experience and I fell in love with a dog while abroad! The local team did everything they can do help me bring her back and she is now with me. I highly recommend this program.

I have done IVHQ a total of 3 times. The first time was in Cusco, Peru, I volunteered my time at an orphanage. The second was in Costa Rica, working at a coffee farm harvesting and grounding coffee. This time around, I went to Jamaica to volunteer at an animal rescue shelter. Every experience was a different and incredible experience. Volunteering with IVHQ is the most affordable way to travel around the world and I recommend it to anyone who says they can't afford to travel. It was also a very humbling experience to hang out with the locals, get to know their culture, eat their food and enjoy spending time at the famous Jamaican attractions. The best part about Jamaica was instead of staying with a host family, we stayed in a volunteer dorm where we got to live together as a family. We all cooked for each other, played games, went out to explore and became a family. One thing, I said about when coming to volunteer on this trip was to grow as a person and find myself but instead I found a family. There will never be an experience better the immersion of culture and coming together to achieve one goal which is volunteering your time and effort to those who need it more than we do. Along the way you make friends for life and experiences you will never forget. Where else are you going to find crazy traveling explorers who love to volunteer their time in a different country? Only at IVHQ!

Volunteering with IVHQ in Portugal was one of the most rewarding experience. The trip truly exceeded my expectations. From the application to the completion of my project, it was smooth sailing. I always got required support from both IVHQ and their local counterpart ImpactTrip in Portugal. The local team in Portugal is so friendly and always goes one step further to help out and makes sure you are comfortable. They helped me plan and book my local trips/activities with great zeal. I throughly enjoyed my stay at the ImpactHouse. Best part of the trip was meeting with the incredible volunteers and friendly and helpful local team. I hope these friendships get stronger by time. Another highlight of the trip was delicious food at the ImpactHouse. I am not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best foods have I had. :) I would highly recommend volunteering with IVHQ and the local team in Portugal. Thank you IVHQ and ImpactTrip for the wonderful experience!

I chose the teaching project from IVHQ first of all based on how affordable it was in comparison to the other websites I had visited. Second of all, as a future med student I wanted to try a different way in which to help society, so I decided to go abroad where I could share my knowledge to others who don't share the same privilege as me. This project ensured I could do what I had in mind and it also helped me to appreciate what I have and how much happiness you could give someone just by dedicating some of your time to them! I created such a special bond with the kids I was teaching, even though we didn't speak the same language, something I didn't know could be possible. The other volunteers there were friendly and I was heartbroken to leave such friendships behind. I will definitely sign up for another project next year too!

I recently volunteered through IVHQ for the Special Needs Support project in Barcelona, Spain. I am from California, this was my first time volunteering abroad and I am so happy that I went through IVHQ! Planning the trip, the staff made it so simple to organize as a first timer. The staff was very responsive and answered my many questions. They also helped booked my flight with the third party (and with humanitarian rates). Once I arrived in Barcelona, the local contracted staff met me at the airport and in following days ensured that myself and the other volunteers were familiar with navigating the area, staying safe and overall traveled smart and in a way that was condusive for having a successful, fun trip. The project itself was so rewarding and fun! Getting to meet and work with the beneficiaries and their staff was an educational and memorable experience where we were able to make an impact. I was only there for a week but would have loved to stay longer if my schedule allowed. I would recommend going with IVHQ, there are so many locations and projects to choose from. Can't wait for my next one!

Absolutely amazing! I would recommend volunteering in Zambia to anyone, actually I do when friends and family ask me about my five weeks in Livingstone. The country is amazing! I have met so many wonderful people, both fellow volunteers and locals, who made my stay the best that it could possibly be. Dream Livingstone was a wonderful volunteer house, I never once felt unsafe or unwelcome. I suggest to anyone who is currently looking to volunteer to volunteer with IVHQ in a Livingstone, Zambia!! And be sure to check out Homework Club, those kids will warm your heart!

My trip to Romania was a very last minute one having only applied 2 weeks before my placement at the animal shelter was due to start. The reason for my late application was that i had been deliberating over whether to apply or not due to a mix of nervousness and not knowing what the experience would entail. Inspite of this, i decided to go ahead and apply to the animal shelter project in Romania with IVHQ in partnership with care2travel and having just finished my time there, my only regret would be not spending longer at this incredible place and program. With regard to the support surrounding the placement, i was picked up from the airport as soon as i arrived by one of the care2travel staff named Orsi who was incredibly welcoming and made me feel at ease straight away. Then, having arrived at the accommodation, which was situated in the centre of Miercurea Ciuc. I was impressed by a large courtyard surrounded by rustic buildings with generously sized rooms. In terms of my expenses, there were very little as not only was i able to request groceries for the house which was included in the program fee for breakfast and dinner, but lunch was also provided at a local restaurant. The restaurant offered a large variety of food for all different requirements including a range of local delicacies. As a result the only expenses that you will experience will be either for drinks at one of the local bars or cafés such as grund which was my personal favourite, or if you decide to do one of many afternoon experiences such as horse riding, adventure activities, cookery along with a host of other options which care2travel offer in partnership with locals in order to facilitate their ideals of sustainable tourism. In terms of my time at the Pro Animalia animal shelter, i could not do the experience justice. Prior to applying, one of my main concerns was, being a huge dog person, whether i would be able to cope with the experience emotionally. As i thought i would, i became very close with several of the dogs, particularly one of the puppies named jeremiah. However, i quicky realised during my placement that they were receiving a very high standard of care which indeed is made possible with the help of volunteers such as yourselves. Therefore i understood that the best way to further help the dogs is to give them lots of affection and to encourage others who are on the fence about joining to further help the dogs at the shelter. One of the things that i most enjoyed about the experience was that the staff were very flexible in terms of how i helped at the shelter. For instance i have a passion for photography and the staff encouraged me to use this skill set to take photos of the dogs for their website. My main role however was to socialise the puppies and young dogs. Although the majority of the puppies were very playful, there were several more timid dogs which can limit the likelihood of their adoption thus socialising these dogs early on their development is key. The importance of early socialisation is furthered by the fact that once a dog has found a new home, not only is it amazing for the dog but it also opens up space for the shelter to help other dogs who are in difficult situations. I am pleased to say that by the end of my week, i noticed several of the more timid dogs feeling more comfortable to interact with myself and the other volunteers. Better still i’ve heard from the volunteers who have stayed on that the dogs are making even more progress. Overall, i had an incredible experience throughout my time in Romania both in terms of my experience at the shelter itself as well as meeting so many amazing volunteers from across the world. Therefore i would highly recommend this IVHQ program to anybody as not only will you he helping a very worthy project but i’m sure that you will also have an amazing personal experience in Romania.

I spent a week volunteering in Lisbon, Portugal on a youth support program. The only thing I would like to change is that I would love to stay for longer. I chose this program because I wanted to do something meaningful since small actions lead to big changes as well as to experience the culture from the inside. I arrived a day before, so everything was extremely calm. We lived in a hostel 10 people per room. When I got to know that we live in such a big group I definitely said goodbye to sleep in advance. However! People were amazing, quiet, polite, and respectful. The door shut too loudly so together we used a towel to reduce the noise and then we bought a special sticky thing, which worked :D. There were two or four showers per floor and, nonetheless, there wasn't any line neither in the morning nor in the afternoon. No issues with the hot water as well. What inspired me the most is the attempt to maximize sustainability. The hostel tries to recycle as much as possible, they have a sustainable store and separate garbage, and, what's most important, they have a veggie Friday every week. Every day there were amazing vegetarian options, however, for vegans, it would be quite difficult. The information provided allowed experience the true (not typical touristic ) Portuguese culture. The surroundings are incredible! Beaches, oceans, towers, "the mouth of hell", Cascais... The view from the top of the statue of Christ is just indescribable. I think if you go only for a week, you definitely should stay on the weekends to visit Sintra and Porto, take some surfing lessons, and meet a sunset on the boat at the Tagus. The placement where I worked with another volunteer was in the poor part of Lisbon, which demonstrates another perspective of the town. And this is what I was looking for. We stayed with babies, played with them, helping mothers to continue their education. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. Overall, the best part of the experience was people! So energized and diverse people made the atmosphere vibrant and fulfilling!
