Teaching Program in Local Kenyan Communities
Program Overview
Become part of this volunteer teaching program and assist teachers in schools, or teach your own classes if you feel comfortable. Your role largely involves teaching English or Mathematics. But if you're competent in other areas, you're welcome to lead another subject.
Classes start at 9:00 am and finish by 3:00 pm, and the students are between grades 1 and 4 (7 – 11 years old). Your placement depends on your wishes, which could be at a local school or an orphanage with a school attached to it. Orphanages often have a minimum of 70 children, and some don't have an adjoining school. But if you would like to teach these kids who would otherwise not have access to education, then you can also organize classes for them.
Teaching styles and schools in Kenya are likely different from what you've grown up with or have been exposed to. To ensure the best experience for you, as a volunteer, and the children you're teaching, we ask that you participate in this program for a minimum of 2 weeks.
