Jamaica Roots, Rhythm & Learn Cultural Immersion Programme
Program Overview
The Jamaica: Roots, Rhythm and Learn Cultural Immersion Programme is a two week experiential learning opportunity hosted by The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus in Kingston, Jamaica. Designed for university students, the programme combines academic engagement with immersive cultural experiences that introduce participants to Jamaica’s rich history, cultural expressions, and contemporary social context.
Through a thematic structure, participants explore key aspects of Jamaican and Caribbean identity including heritage, music, language, dance, spirituality, and environmental traditions. Each day combines contextual academic sessions with experiential activities such as cultural site visits, creative workshops, and engagement with cultural practitioners.
The programme provides a structured environment for students to deepen intercultural understanding while experiencing Jamaica’s global cultural influence. Participants receive a certificate of participation issued through The University of the West Indies short course framework.
