Study Portuguese & Volunteer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The National Registration Center for Study Abroad offers a Portuguese language study and volunteering program in Brazil. Volunteers spend four weeks in group Portuguese classes learning the four basic language skills of listening, grammar, and oral and written comprehension. No English will be used in the classes, which run for about 50 minutes per day. Volunteers may enroll for as many weeks as they desire. To gain the maximum benefit from the course, beginners must take it for 4-12 weeks.

During the program, volunteers will work with at-risk youth or serve as their mentor. Volunteering duties include leading youth in sports and other recreational activities, organizing and teaching English classes, tutoring children in English and Math, taking care of children in the nursery, helping out during meal time, and assisting with a variety of administrative tasks at the centers.
